The Purple Pig Restaurant Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
To expensive for low quality
My girlfriend and I ordered wine by the glas and we never saw any bottles. The waiter just showed up with two glases of wine. Then my girlfriend ordered the Ravioletta and I ordered the filét mignon medium rare. The pasta dish showed up within 5 minutes and the filét mignon showed up after about 15 minutes. The Ravioletta was a pretty small dish and the biggest disapointment was the filét mignon wich was close to well done. The waiter never came by to ask how the food was.
Great small plates! Busy, loud, fun.
Well staffed and service very good. Overordered and OK with that! Cocktail and beer x1, rosé x 2. 6 plates for 4 people maybe a little much?
The small plates are incredible at Purple Pig.
While they do not accept reservations, you can usually get in somewhat easily, especially during off hours. Even if you do need to wait a bit, it is absolutely worth it!
I love this restaurant.
I make it a point to come visit this restaurant anytime I'm in Chicago, especially if I'm at the conferences at the Hyatt across the river. My favorite thing to order is their ravioletto.

Absolutely one of the best meals I've ever had in my entire life. The mushroom three ways was close. Your eyes to savor every bite good. And the charred octopus was buttery, soft and cooked to perfection with the salsa Verde. It was absolutely the perfect compliment. Worth every single penny.
Absolutely awesome food.
Wonderful experience!! Highly recommend stopping at The Purple Pig if you are in Chicago!

Upon entering The Purple Pig, there was a definite unwelcome vibe from the hostess. Lots of frowning and making us feel like a bother despite a reservation. Once we got seated luckily things improved. The server was busy, but still took time to check on us without being overbearing. Now the food- despite the server describing the plates as "shareable" they are definitely full size entrees and not what I'd typically term shareable. The "Bread for the Table" was a large bowl of various artisan breads- the round black bread was a standout. The bacon and maple butter was tasty, but would have benefited from being chilled. The entrees- Tagliatelle and Orecchiette. The pasta of the first dish was excellent and definitely benefitted from a handmade feel. The lamb ragu of the Tagliatelle was flavorful- but the pearl onions didn't add much to the dish. The Orecchiette was also a wonderfully done pasta- the large balls of Italian sausage had the expected Italian sausage flavor. The sound level in the restaurant made conversing a bit of a challenge- and would likely make a first date rough- unless you really don't want to chat. Overall, worth a stop- family friendly (there were kiddos there)- for a (probably not super relaxing) dinner evening.
Was looking for a Chicago classic while we were in the area
Was looking for a Chicago classic while we were in the area and glad we found this in our search! We were here on a weekend with a reservation which I recommend cause the line can get long outside. Service was awesome! Gentleman who was our waiter had a great energy to him, super friendly, and kept the mood light & fun through dinner. Speaking of energy, the whole vibe is the place was really nice. Very lively, good energy all around, and just felt like the place to be. And the food was delicious! Started with the lobster salad (for which the tomato's might've been the best I've ever had). Squid ink pasta and pork chop was super full flavorful and the sorbet to end the night balanced all that all out. Totally recommended!
The pork shank is delicious!!!
The food is great! The pork shank is delicious, tasty, I do recommend pairing with a red wine. I sit at the bar, and service is good, efficient. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is the hostess. When I arrived, I asked for a seat, and I said it was okay to sit at the bar... she assigned me a corner that was the least comfortable seat. There were at least the other 6-7 empty seats, but she said that it was not possible... if I was not really willing to have dinner at the restaurant, I would have left. Again, food is great, no complaints. But there are a lot of opportunities related to the hostess.

my server- Cornillius Dorillius gave me one singular tiny chicken nugget even though I asked for 60 she was the worst ever! she wasn't even nice I saw her throw the food to someone.

Once you get past the crowded, loud space and prices on the menu it really is a special place. The food is amazing.
Terrible food.
Everything is inexpertly conceived and made. The crispy chicken, for example, was described as a half baby chicken. It was not crispy. It was a few overcooked and rubbery thighs, so greasy it would stay on the fork, swimming in some kind of aviscous cheese soup. The duck croquettes featured not a speck of duck flavor, and the 3 sat atop a pool of flavorless eggplant puree. The best thing we had was the lobster salad, which was over dressed, but featured well cooked lobster bits. Do not recommend.
Incredible amazing!!!
Amazing restaurant! Valentino was great very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. This is my second time having lunch and I will definitely come back. I can say without a doubt, it has being one of the best restaurants I’ve visited in Chicago
The Purple Pig is rarer than a purple squirrel
One of the best restaurants in Chicago. Love the Duck Croquettes with Provolone, Apple, Eggplant Puree + Kimchi. Also enjoy some Pork Liver & Bacon Paté with Fried Sage + Grape Mostarda and the Foie Gras Terrine with Blueberry Jam + Hazelnut Paste. An award winning restaurant.
One of Chicago’s finest
We missed this wonderful restaurant during the height of the pandemic but it still fires on all cylinders. Each dish we ordered was outstanding, beautifully executed and memorable. Were locals and think the only reason more locals vs. tourists don’t frequent this gem is the lack of convenient parking. Order any vegetable in addition to protein and you’ll be in hog heaven.

Great service--sat at the bar and shared tapas and a bottle of wine. We went solely off the recommendations of the bartender and everything was spectacular.
Wait for a table and you won't regret it
Be prepped for a wait but it's worth it. We sat at the counter facing the food prep which is all that was available when we showed up, but it was so fun watching the plates go out. All the food was tremendous, especially the bread options!
Love me some Purple Pig!
We went here for the first time about ten years ago..and we were so happy to have the opportunity to come back to Chicago and go to the PURPLE PIG! The menu has grown and is very eclectic. I wanted everything but went back to what I had before: the kale w/pig ears and the bone marrow. Servings were bigger than I remember, but just as tasty. Service is quick. Food is wonderful. What's not to lose? GIVE IT A TRY (and get the bone marrow!! Nom nom!!)
We tried the duck and the risotto.
Both were amazing but the duck is in its own category. It was done so well!
Great food , good service and fair pricing ! What more can
Great food , good service and fair pricing ! What more can you ask for right?! Recommended. I highly recommend making a reservation as this place is getting popular by the day .

Journeyed over to the Purple Pig and sat at the bar for dinner. As usual, the place was buzzing, the atmosphere was electric and the service was great. Course came out at a perfectly timed cadence. The food doesn't miss, they've remained consistent year over year. The pig ear is a must try and the pork shoulder melts in your mouth. Perfect end to end.
My wife, my son and I ate here during our March 2024 visit
My wife, my son and I ate here during our March 2024 visit to Chicago. When we walked in, the noise level was so high we were uncomfortable. However, many patrons were not bothered by that. We had 5 plates which we shared. We started out with Pork liver pate. This had a sweet cherry sauce we did not think added anything to the pate. It made it too sweet. The Brussel sprouts were pretty good. The pork belly was a large portion and well cooked, and by itself was excellent. But, it had a sweet sauce which may have detracted from the flavor. The half duck was a large portion of crispy duck (half a duck) and was really good. Again a sweet dipping sauce but with the duck was really good. Finally we had tagliatelle in a lamb ragu. This was was excellent. The service was ok. Our rating would be higher except we were off-put by the acoustics. It was too loud even with my hearing aids off!
Best meal(s) of my life.
I had the Berkshire shoulder braised in milk. It was served with a spoon and that was the only utensil needed. I also went with the pork neck house made ricotta filled gnocchi and was blown away. Finished off with the iris of Sicily (9/10) which was also incredible. It was so good in fact that with all the other choices in Chicago I had another meal there prior to leaving.
My visit to Purple Pig was a bit of a rollercoaster.
While the service was impeccable, the food left much to be desired. We started with the roasted bone marrow, which was rich and flavorful, but the portion size was quite small for the price. The grilled octopus was tender and well-cooked, but the accompanying sauce was a bit too salty. For our main course, we tried the lamb sausage and the fried pig's ears. The sausage was tasty but a bit greasy, and the pig's ears were crispy but lacked seasoning. Despite the ups and downs of the meal, the service was a standout. Our server was attentive and friendly, making sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal.

Our visit started with waiting about 15-20 to be seated for our reserved table. There were quite a lot of diners within the restaurant so, I'm sure that played a part in the additional wait. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu/ any questions we had. The food comes out as it's ready so, don't be surprised if half your table has received food and others have not. My favorite dish was the customizable meat and cheese board!
A Chicago treat
This was my second visit to the Purple Pig, the first at the new location. The feeling is more modern now but the staff has the same friendly and fun attitude. The food is still fabulous. The tartar was a hit and the scallops left two of my compatriots speechless. I had the pleasure of introducing them to bone marrow. After a little convincing to step up they all agreed well worth it. We had six dishes, desserts and a bottle of wine for around three hundred plus tip. A steal in my mind for lunch for four!
TLDR; good ambiance, rich+modern food, and good service!
TLDR; good ambiance, rich+modern food, and good service! Note that food is quite heavy! This restaurant is part of a larger building that kind of looks like an office, but you will see the name of the restaurant on the outer glass panels so it's not too hard to find. The pate was really good and the pork ears and fried kale were suuuuuper rich. Loved it! The pork shoulder was also good, and we got free cake with açaí sorbet since we were celebrating a birthday :) needless to say, the service was on point. I'd come here occasionally to pig out (don't cancel me for the terrible pun plz), but overall it's a bit too heavy for my taste.
Love this place, best everything.
We are from out of town and drive a long way to come to this place. Not to mention the long walk we take down Chicago's magnificent mile. I can't go there enough.
Would Go Purple Again
We went on a Monday night, within walking distance of the Hyatt Regency. Made reservation, which is good because it was packed. They got us in about 20 min early. Service great and while crowded, ppl were all friendly. Happy vibe. Had orecchiette-amazing. Pork chop, very good. Terrific wine & cocktail list. Ppl next to us had Brussels sprouts & pork shank and loved them. Total bill around $125 for 2, including a drink each.
I recommend it
I recommend it, the food is of good quality, it is a place with a good atmosphere, and the truth creates nice memories in that place.
