The Longs Arms Bradford-on-Avon Reviews from The Last Year
Return visit to the Long Arms
Return visit to the Long Arms as the previous experience was very good. This visit the food still excellent, well prepared and presented. Unfortunately let down by the service - attention very poor - examples - when asking if we could order the young lady looked at her wrist - at the non existent watch - and said in a few minutes! The restaurant was not busy perhaps another three or so tables. No pleasantry just an off the cuff interaction that told us we will attend to you when we are good and ready!! Drinks service slow, when wine arrived it was plonked down on the table with no offer to check or taste and then pour the wine - normal procedure in a half decent restaurant. Trying to get the servers attention was a challenge - a few times eye contact was made in an attempt to order additional drinks, but the young lady chose not to respond and continued clearing a table. Could go on...…...... A real shame as the effort and attention to detail with the food was excellent - all the hard work, love and attention shown by the kitchen totally wiped out by the serving staff. Let the Chef take control and ensure that their dishes are served with optimum effect - use the servers as "plate carriers" to the Chefs direction.
Delicious lunch
Went with a friend to celebrate our birthdays, and had a totally delicious meal. Good service, fabulous food but still English pub feel about it.
Worthy it’s Michelin status
If you want top end pub food, I can’t think of a better choice in the area. Seasonal food, great choice, good portioning and most importantly, delicious.
Top quality
This is an excellent place to eat, good food, beautifully cooked and served. Top quality, and the menu is good. I can't rate it highly enough. The staff are courteous and helpful. The ambiance is great, we shall return.
Incredible food and stunning pub
The Longs Arms is an outstanding Michelin-star pub in a beautiful, quaint village. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday - he is vegan and the chef was amazing is preparing vegan options when we let them know in advance, which were so delicious and made us feel so welcome. The pub itself is beautiful and rustic with a fire burner. We highly recommend the drive over for a meal if you are staying in the Cotswolds, Bath or Wiltshire area - you will not be disappointed! We stayed at the adjoining Airbnb, The Piggery, which we also highly recommend!
Delicious food and excellent care. A very special meal.
We dined as a large family, ranging in age from their twenties to their eighties, and everyone raved about the delicious food whatever had been ordered. The staff at The Longs Arms are incredibly caring and patient, and made the birthday lunch so special. Special thanks to them.
Lovely meal!
What an amazing place the owners are great one being the chef and he definitely knows what he’s doing! Lovely warm atmosphere and welcoming lovely staff will definitely return as soon as we are back in the area
Visit with friends
Visited over the weekend with friends, great pub with a warm and friendly welcome, the food was delicious and the service perfectly timed to savour the atmosphere, by the end of the evening you felt like one of the locals, always our favourite choice when we have friends visiting.
Delicious take-away
Fantastic Take-Away. Two venison pies with butter mash, red cabbage & gravy. Absolutely delicious! The pie especially...it was packed with the most tender melt in your mouth meat. It was all well packaged and was ready bang on the time I requested. For the quality of food we thought it was real value for money. A lovely and delicious way to end the weekend. Thank you so much.
Barely anything positive about it
I had a bad feeling about this place. Enough excoriating reviews amongst the praise to get my sceptic buds tickling. My partner had been recommended so we booked lunch. First thing I noticed was the smell of cooking in the carpark. It was not the "ummmm" type of cooking smell at all. The place was empty, bar us and a table of 4 (next to us) so zero atmosphere. A great deal of the responsibility for what I ate lies with me. The ingredients were on the menu, and despite doubting Dover sole, beef shin ravioli, broccoli, pink fir potatoes could ever work, I thought I'd see if they could pull it off. It was far worse than I envisaged. It looked revolting when put in front of me, but tasted worse. There were about 7 small ravioli sitting on the broccoli, with the potatoes underneath. 2 sad little soul fillets sat curled up and colourless atop the lot. It was all sitting in water (from the veg) mixed with a very strong beef stock. I wager the ravioli was bought in, and if it wasn't, then the chef can't make them. The spuds had long seen "pink" - they were dark brown and shriveled up. The overwhelming flavour was too-thick pasta with pungent beef overwhelming everything. The sole never stood a chance in hell, but even that was overcooked and drab. The veg was hot, the fish tepid and the ravioli, cold. So I should have known better, but still. This is utterly terrible food and it's a long, long time since I had anything so dire. £35.00. If was just down to food (and his haddock and chips which was fine) then I'd be giving a little more slack. The service was diabolical too. Once the food was on the table, that was it. Not a soul to ask if the food was ok, or if we wanted another drink. Likewise for the next table. After staring at dirty plates for several minutes, he went off to find someone, as I wanted drink and he a dessert. All I will say is there followed a prickly encounter. We changed our minds and asked for the bill. I think it was one of the proprietors who brought it. She asked if we'd enjoyed the meal, and I was honest. She said "it's a classic pairing but obviously not to your taste". Been eating in hi-brow to lo-brow places for 40 years and never come across it. Neither has Google, btw. I think it's more a chef who's woefully out of his depth.
