Teni East Kitchen Oakland Reviews from The Last Year
Just the best every time.
Have tried half the menu at this point and never been disappointed.
Our go-to spot for entertaining a group when we don't want
Our go-to spot for entertaining a group when we don't want to cook. Quality is consistent throughout the menu and is now a cut above Burma.
we have been going to Teni 5 or 10 years.
we have loved this restaurant. we had the most disturbing experience tonight. we ordered appetizers drinks and entrees. Everything was delivered as ordered except the entrees. Three arrived but the fourth did not, although the accompanying rice did. After about 5 minutes we asked what happened, we were told the kitchen got backed up . After another 10 minutes and everyone had finished except the person whose food still had arrived we asked what's going on. They continued to say the kitchen was backed up even though others were getting their entrees. Clearly the kitchen was backed up explanation was not true. Who knows what was going on but I felt like I was being discriminated against and I shouldn't complain. we got our check and left. I would never return to this restaurant. Discrimination is not ok.
Nothing special with sub par service.
The food was alright- nothing to write home about. I wouldn't go back. Everything was pretty spicy- and I can usually tolerate spice. The flavor just wasn't there. The curries felt a little watered down with extra chili oil so the only "flavor" you really got was the spice from the oil. The ambiance was pretty mid. It appears "trendy" but is just a bit loud. The service was the real downfall. The servers didn't come to check on you unless you flagged them down. The water sat empty on our table for twenty minutes and it took an additional five minutes or so after we flagged them down to refill the water. I'd save yourself the experience and find somewhere else personally.
I have so many good things to say about Teni.
It's a cozy, inviting space. Our waitress was kind and attentive. Cocktails and food were lovely. Menu is clearly labeled for vegan and GF. I ordered the chickpea tofu and veggie curry. My date ordered the Salmon. He liked my vegan dishes better, but we agreed that everything was delicious. We will return!
Considering how I've enjoyed just about every meal I've
Considering how I've enjoyed just about every meal I've ever had at Burma Superstar (hyped as they may be), it's no surprise that Teni East Kitchen has been on my list of bookmarks to try for a while now. Not only was it started by a Burma Superstar alum, but the concept is straight up dope - Burmese staples with a decidedly California twist. Granted, that means non-traditional versions of traditional favorites, but at the same time, who cares if they taste great? And based on everything that I had read and heard, that very much seemed to be the case! Even though Teni East Kitchen has been around for a few years now, their popularity doesn't seem to have waned much, so it was a pleasant surprise that my friend and I were able to get seated immediately as walk-ins (not sure if that would've been the case on a Friday/Saturday night). While the menu isn't quite as extensive as I thought it would be, it's still filled with a bunch of enticing offerings, as well as a slate of cocktails and spirits. What's more, the California influences incorporated into the dishes aren't heavy handed and add some interesting elements, like incorporating kale in their Tea Leaf Salad. -- FIREBENDER - Tequila, Lime Juice, Pineapple Gum, Falernum, Habanero Vodka, and Angostura Bitters...$14 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/teni-east-kitchen-oakland?select=Rd78QA69X3GExVlUPgH7kw) This was pretty decent all around. I couldn't taste much of the habanero vodka, but I really liked that the tequila didn't overpower the rest of the flavors and how the pineapple gum gave this a slight tropical feel. -- PEA SHOOT SALAD - Teni Signature Salad with Roasted Nuts and Seeds...$14 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/teni-east-kitchen-oakland?select=tN_LWaJz9kQ1xCUeDovMoQ) My favorite dish of our meal! Not only were the pea shoots super fresh, but they were well complemented by the seeds and nuts. I still kind of wish we had tried their Tea Leaf Salad, but easy to see why this is their signature salad! -- BASIL CUMIN CHICKEN - Wok Tossed with Fresh Basil, Shallots and Spices...$21 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/teni-east-kitchen-oakland?select=6fiVHUMrFwsUrtGrDAjlAQ) I was super excited for this, but it was just okay. The portion was pretty fair and it looked great on the plate. However, the chicken was just okay (neither moist nor dry) and the sauce wasn't quite what I expected (thought it'd have more spice and not nearly as much nuttiness). -- SPICY NOODLES with Mixed Vegetables...$19 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/teni-east-kitchen-oakland?select=6NcQOFfINrMm0cxqO0_1XQ) I imagine I would've liked the chicken version better, but this was still pretty solid. The noodles had a nice tenderness and I really did like the vegetables in the dish. That said, I wouldn't have minded a bit more spice and a bit more sauce. All in all, while nothing that we had was "bad", I'd be lying if I said I still wasn't disappointed relative to what I had been hoping for. It's also quite possible (likely?) that we just didn't order the best of what Teni East has to offer when compared to what others have ordered. The Pea Shoot Salad was awesome and a lot of folks seem to get the Teni Spicy Noodles, but the Basil Cumin Chicken doesn't appear to be one of their more popular dishes. As far as service goes, our sever was terrific - super friendly and she checked in on us often (helped that the restaurant wasn't all that busy). If I lived closer to Teni East, I'd certainly come back to try more of what their menu has to offer (especially their Tea Leaf Salad) and I still wouldn't mind in the future. It's just that, given how the portions felt a little light across the board, the drive, bridge toll, and everything else involved, I'd probably lean towards checking out another restaurant on my list of bookmarks before coming back again. THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded down.
I absolutely love it here.
Our friends Loretta and Allen recommended this place. I had the spicy noodles without the vegetables. I almost went back to get some. I also ordered the mushrooms with the tofu. Together hit the right note for me. And the server Ula was great! We got there early before the evening rush so it was quiet like I like it. I highly recommend it.
We tried Teni East Kitchen and got delivery.
Wish I would've thought to take some pictures. We were very impressed with the quality, taste and unique take on Burmese dishes. First, the food arrived very quickly and was hot. We had the kale tea leaf salad. Awesome to find a vegan tea leaf as not all are. Using kale instead of romaine is a big win with us! We also had the GF vegan spicy flat noodles and the chickpea tofu with brown rice. Both were delicious! We look forward to eating here again!
Clean and spacious wood interior with intricate murals.
There were three of us at a round window table on a March Saturday at 1:30. The restaurant was sparsely populated at the time. We were handed laminated menus and water. Unfortunately they were out of the whole crispy fried fish we wanted share as well as the coconut water my friend wanted for hydration. Two of them got hot tea and I stuck with water which we had to ask for a refill halfway through. We shared the roti appetizer which was warm and the curry sauce a mild flavor, the pea shoot signature salad was too drenched in fish sauce dressing for the others but I love my salads soaked, dark meat chicken curry which was saucy and tender, and the green beans were juicy and delicious. We got two sides of jasmine rice and when I asked for hot sauce but they only had chili oil which wasn't very hot. For reference I eat "Thai spicy". We sometimes get delivery from Teni East but I had only been inside once when they first opened years ago. Delivery is not as good as eating in person. Street metered parking can be hard to find. We parked residential two blocks away. One friend walked 13 minutes from MacArthur Bart. There is a unisex restroom past the bar. There is a full bar and for some reason they are categorized as a cocktail bar on Yelp instead of a restaurant. The check is brought to your table and they have compostable takeout boxes.
First off, their coconut rice is SOOOOOO good.
Sweet, fragrant, slightly creamy, and textured. Literal dish in its own right. Just top it with the house chili sauce and fried onion and you're in heaven. The pairing of their rice with lamb curry was a fine balance of flavours and heat. Had to order two bowl of rice since the curry was so flavorful. Can't forget ordering the Pea Shoot Salad as the combination of sweetness, umami, and acidity of the dressing and greens was a refreshing palate teaser. The mango ginger lassi was a great beverage to tie in the meal afterwards. A little pricey overall but the quality, and love the restaurant put into their dish and service was well worth the visit. =)
Interesting Burmese Menu
There were 3 of us for dinner and we ordered a number of dishes. One was excellent, some were good, one was a problem, and one was inedible. So the cooking is uneven. I applaud the interesting Burmese menu where everything seems to be delicious. Friendly quick service. Noise problem. The ceiling is high and there is nothing, like table cloths, to modify the voices cascading around. And then they add very loud 80s pop music on the stereo. So too loud.
If only...
I love Burmese food, but after 2 meals here, I can't say it was very good. Fresh ingredients, somewhat innovative combinations and a pleasant interior just didnt add up to a great, tasty meal. Where did the flavor go? I wish it weren't so as the other well known Burmese restaurant in Oakland seems to have slipped alot which leaves me to wonder where to go for this terrific cuisine.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
