Taro San Japanese Noodle Bar Palo Alto Reviews from The Last Year
Came here for a quick brunch and it was tasty! Chicken
Came here for a quick brunch and it was tasty! Chicken karaage was pretty good, didn't really 'wow' me, I got the wagyu Niku udon and my girlfriend got the regular Nike udon- honestly didn't look nor taste any different compared to each other. I was told next time I was craving rice to get raw pork belly kakuni Don, but ya girl was craving soup so udon it was! Would come back in the future, right next to the farmers market.
I take my son to Stanford U 3x a week for a sports activity.
That gives me 1.5 hours to spend at Stanford Mall while I wait for him to come out. Last night, I took my other son to dinner with me and we picked Taro San bec (1) they have outdoor seating for our doggy, and (2) bec he spotted panko shrimp roll in their online menu and wanted that. I saw the 3 star rating on yelp and wondered what that was about. Location and ambiance is nice, and I vaguely remember having a nice experience eating there years before when they were newly opened. Two solid stars for being friendly to us AND to our doggy. We were willing to sit on the counter chairs outside, but they allowed us to sit in the restaurant foyer closest to the entrance. I was already thinking, I'm gonna be back soon! The lady who took our orders did not write them down. I ordered the bento box with panko shrimp roll for my boy, unagi shrimp tempura for myself, and their Wagyu niku udon TO GO for my other boy. I made sure to emphasize that the udon is TO GO, and she repeated it. I also ordered the mochi donuts for dessert. Except for the mochi donuts, which was delicious, they got nothing else right. They brought bento box with california roll for my boy, which I didn't notice right away bec we were busy chatting. He liked that one, too, and it was getting late so we decided to roll with it (pun intended!). They served me the Wagyu niku udon-- I had to ask again for them to pack that one. The server came back to me and asked, so what is it that you ordered for yourself? THIS-- this is why I'm not a big fan of not writing people's orders down! If I was in a bad mood I would have been pissed by now, but I smilingly repeated my order and my boy and I got back to our chat. Minutes later, she came back with the mochi donuts. It was nearly closing time by then, so I followed up on my entree. Finally, she came with my entree-- PACKED in a to go bag with the udon. She apologized and said that there was a miscommunication between her and the kitchen and offered to give me a discount. I gave up. It was nearly 8PM by then, and we needed to leave anyway. In some restaurants, you can get your order wrong, you can get it late, or you can get badly served, but you will get your food. At Taro San, I got my food, too, but I had to eat it in the car.
Great ambience and decor inside.
The service was very slow for a restaurant that wasn't full, but the servers were nice. The food was extremely mediocre. The ingredients felt fresh and the flavors were good, but every piece of our California roll fell apart on the plate. Don't get the crème brûlée, it was overly sweet and the container it came it was so shallow that it was like 50% burnt sugar and no filling. Would recommend the noodles here.
The foods were great.
I had the duck tsuke udon and it was delicious. The dipping sauce was so flavorful and the duck meat was so tender. We also ordered some appetizers. The takoyaki balls were delishhhh too. The service was great, very attentive. Ambiance was chill. I will definitely come back.
First time here.
Nice ambiance although the hard surfaces add to a lot of noise. Tried the short rib Udon. Large portion but so - so taste. Did not like the bill paying process -- mobile device held by wait person. Couldn't see the bill and seemed rushed.
Went to Taro San and had really great food and service.
But I wanted to give a shoutout to Randy! He went above and beyond to take care of us and make sure everything was good. Super attentive and really nice. Thank you Randy! Will definitely be coming back again. Taro San is definitely a nice spot to come in for a meal or even snacks and drinks
My friend and I went to get dinner here and we both
My friend and I went to get dinner here and we both immediately thought the interior was super aesthetically pleasing. It's located inside Stanford shopping mall. We sat at the bar to be away from the door because it was cold and windy. Our server took our order but it was busy. We got takoyaki as our appetizer and it was really yummy and crispy. I got the salmon ikura mini don and my friend got the niku udon. I thought the donburi was a little underwhelming and put some soy sauce to add flavor. My friend didn't like her udon that much either. Maybe we need to try the other dishes and give it a second chance next time.
Amazing cold dipping Udon and duck Udon.
We ordered sake flight. Pretty impressed. Randy is pretty awesome!!
It was great experience at Taro San.
We tried duck tsukemen and tori udon. Sauce and soup has very thick flavor and taste really good. Plus great service by Randy with our dishes were served very smoothly with timely manner. Also loved ambient of restaurant with modern decorations

Visited here two years ago, it was good at that time ! Come try it again today , the udon noodle tasted hard and the rib eye in the noodle is over cooked ! The pork belly don tasted too sweet and greasy, not recommend ! Service was quick and friendly! Appetizers was small portions!
Nice and clean.
The udon was very good. And the service was exceptional. Shout out to Randy for the amazing service.

I stumbled into this place needing a meal before starting my shopping-- so glad I did! The place is bustling and feels kind of casual, but was a great experience. We got some rolls and Duck Tsuke Udon, which I highly recommend! And the matcha tiramisu was a great way to end the meal.

The restaurant is one of my personal favorites, to begin we had a really welcoming and kind server by the name of Randy, after that the food came out quickly. The food itself was a treat, we ordered the Niku Udon and Short rib Udon and some other minor meals, the soups are this restaurants specialties, and they do an amazing job making them, would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some good food!
Great food, great service.
They were very patient with the children in our party. Highly recommended.
first of all, the staff here are so nice and attentive!!
first of all, the staff here are so nice and attentive!! not only was the ambiance here delightful with the modern chic decor, the positive energy of the staff really made our experience wonderful here along with the delicious food! we also had such a good conversation with one of the chefs about how the creme brûlées are made. i ordered the uni ikura udon bc i was craving creamy udon. at first, i wasn't used to the thick noodle shape for udon but the perfect soft chewiness of the noodle made me love it! this dish definitely felt like a luxurious seafood comfort noodle meal! the price wasn't listed on the menu but it came out to be $35! my friend ordered the duck tsuke udon and i tried the duck which was deliciously smokey and fatty! the seared salmon shrimp roll - oh this was our favorite with the seared salmon on top combined with the yummy fillings of avocado and crusted shrimp!! i'm still thinking about this roll days later! we will definitely come back to try out more sushi options here! for dessert, we got the both of the creme brulee options which satisfied our sweet tooth! recommend the yuzu one if you love tart flavors! overall, this place is a little bit pricey but still good food and good vibes
1 star for the beautiful and clean ambiance etc.
1 star for service. Prompt and fast. Not the warmest but adequate. Pains me to write this because I was really hoping that it would be a good experience. I'd missing Udon shops back home in Osaka... Noodles- worst handmade noodles I've ever had. Was very disappointed as I was looking forward to enjoying to hand cut noodles. Could make better at home. Doughy, dry flour just packed into the noodles when they're made and not shaken off when cooked so gluey like play dough. For my Japanese diners こしがぜんぜんない。soup base was hurriedly made, no depth.

Ambience: One of the very few Japanese restaurants with a nice ambience - a nice modern spacious space. Service: The service was great. The staff are really nice, they regularly check on you and fill up your water. Food came really fast too. Cost: it's definitely pricey for what it is and amount of food. Salmon don had 3 pieces for $22. That said, the food is tasty and quality is good. - Salmon Ikura Don: fresh prices of salmon. The rice was perfect and the Ikura was tasty and not salty, which I liked. I asked our waiter how many pieces come with the dish he said he's not sure but the plate looks full. He was right but he didn't mention the plate was very small!. There was 3 pieces of salmon for $22. - Duck & Japanese Mushroom Udon: good portion. The soup had great flavor. I loved just eating the soup and it has decent amount of mushroom & other goodies in it. The duck was cooked perfectly and tasty. The noodles were thinner than what we are used to but fresh & nice. We will be back for more!
Our favorite udon place.
The duck udon is the best. Niku udon is another favorite. Udon noodles are made fresh here, kids love watching it being made in the kitchen
Food is consistently excellent and served super fast.
Randy provided excellent service as well. 10/10 recommend. My kids love it too
A solid dining option at the Stanford Shopping Center.
Taro San offers a variety of Japanese items - from sushi, to izakaya and small bites, to handmade udon. Portions are large and worth it for the price. Sushi was fresh. Takoyaki was spot on in flavor but mostly comprised of dough. I tried bacon mochi at other izakayas and was excited to see it on their menu. Sadly it wasn't up to par, as the pieces of bacon were overcooked/dry and disproportionately small in comparison to the large pieces of mochi. The udon noodle soups were the highlights of our meal. Al dente handmade noodles with generous toppings in well-seasoned broths. Proteins were cooked inconsistently though, some tender some dry. Food is decent given it's mall food. I wouldn't mind going back for their udon and sushi. I would also give their smaller bites another chance.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
