Sylvain New Orleans Reviews from The Last Year
Great food atmosphere and service!!
The ambience was excellent. Service was superb and the meal was stunning. We would certainly recommend this restaurant as a place for having a wonderful, relaxing meal.
Great cocktails.
Limited menu. Good burger -- though be specific on how you want it cooked. And way too noisy. PLEASE turn down the music!
Loved the decor and vibe of this place.
Unfortunately the food was very underwhelming. Cornbread was meh. Short ribs were fatty and lacked flavor. Salad was good, delicious dressing. Drinks on the weak side. No complaints about service, other than telling my wife to sit straight as to not bump the table behind us.
Great atmosphere.
Food was hit and miss. Super dry cornbread and the antipasto was mostly pickles marmalade. The chicken sandwich and bolognese was very good. The drinks were really good but very small.
This a review of their brunch.
To begin, the space has a really nice aesthetic lending to a very comfortable ambiance. It has an old world vibe with nice modern touches. The brunch menu was enjoyable; the food was flavorful and fresh tasting with many delicious sounding options. A number of really well crafted cocktails on the menu along with a few zero proof as well, I tried a few was glad I did. The service was top notch, which I've come to notice is hit and miss in the Quarter. I wish I could recall their name because they are deserving of a big shout out! Thanks for a really nice brunch experience!
After a night out in town, brunch brought us back to life!
After a night out in town, brunch brought us back to life! This is a beautiful place, love the vibe, you get in thru a hall that leads to an interior patio and there you have the dinning area inside in what looks like an old factory. Feels very authentic and hip at the same time. Food was amazing, everything very tasty, and prices were extremely reasonable! But the best part was service from the moment we got there. From the host to the server. Everyone was friendly, patient, polite and I even got my birthday shot, cause they remembered from when we came in I mentioned I was celebrating! It was lovely, most definitely come back when in town and so should you!

After walking for a while we decided to find a place to relax for a moment. Just a quiet little alley type bar with dining outside and in. Quiet-er, good music, chill vibe. We sat at the bar for a beverage and some water and got to watch the cocktail making. Next time will definitely grab a bite!
by far the best dinner we had in nola! cute little ambiance
by far the best dinner we had in nola! cute little ambiance and the Nutella pie was everything!! we absolutely devoured every dish. corn bread was the star of the show along with the thin cut fries and the aioli sauce that came with it. best dipping sauce
This is a great, bustling restaurant.
Excellent food, good cocktails and a nice wine selection with very reasonably priced bottles. We had cornbread app, spicy crab dumplings, and trumpet mushrooms for starters and striped bass entree- outstanding.
What a let down, 2 people mentioned this place as a good
What a let down, 2 people mentioned this place as a good food option for dinner. Ambiance is standard for the Quarter area but the experience was a BIG let down. The so called Wagyu burger looked like something from a school cafeteria and was not done to the temperature we requested....I've seen better burger presentation at a ny diner. Cornbread was over cooked and tasteless....even with the seasoned butter. Waitress was fine but the red headed manager was an idiot who thought being defensive and disingenuous was appropriate for a table that spent $300 on a few appetizers, screwed up burgers, and drinks (even after subtracting one of the burgers). In this day and age a burger should not be an easy thing to screw up....never again. NOLA has too much good food to waste time, energy, and money on lack luster food and moronic managers....at your own risk!
Almost walked by Sylvain.
Small storefront with a wonderful courtyard and an intimate indoor seating area. We sat a the bar and cocktails and tried the blackberry empanadas and the crispy Zucchini. They were great as was the service. Definitely going back for dinner or the Sunday brunch.
Stick to burgers and drinks
Very good burger and fries. Nice specialty cocktails. Decent service. Awful cornbread -- think sawdust. Horrible beet salad; they destroy beautiful fresh heirloom beets by pickling them and serving them atop the most disgusting brown goat cheese I have ever tasted.
Excellent drinks and atmosphere
We visited for drinks and snacks, and were impressed. Cocktails were delicious and the cornbread and zucchini fries were very good. The vibe is what makes this place so great - dark and a little bit, but not too loud with an awesome playlist. They had a large courtyard to sit in too.
Wonderful food in NOLA
A wonderful dining experience in New Orleans. Delicious food and attentive service. Food outside the ordinary — especially appreciated a non-Cajun option. The 4-course meal with wine pairing was delicious. The atmosphere was both a little dark and a little loud, but that was also part of the charm of this place.
Expected more, got less.
This place was at the top of my list for our annual trip to New Orleans. We went with 4 other friends. We sat outside at a glass table that did not look like it was been cleaned in quite a while. We ordered appetizers and salads that did not arrive until well after the meal. There was no apology or comp for the lateness of the appetizers. Only that they would be out… a restaurant of this caliber should know when appetizers are served and if they do make a mistake should know when to send a manager over to apologize, especially when the bill is well over $300.00. Overall the food was good except the entree salad that cost $14 was served in what appeared to be a soup bowl, with some of the ingredients missing. We had to ask for those. I guess my expectations were higher than they should have been. I hope them the best as I’m sure not everyone will have our experience but I will spend my money elsewhere next time.
No, go elsewhere.
Came here after reading about it in an old Conde Nast Traveler article I kept from Jan/Feb 2018 issue. I wanted to love it, I really do. The vibe and ambiance were so cozy and the menu offered pub-sounding favorites. We didn't have a reservation but it was 8pm on Tuesday night and there were so many open seats but, the hostess said the next opening was 9:30pm so I put my name down for it. I asked if we returned early and the tables were freed up, could we be seated. Her response was "you will be seated at your reservation time". Ok ma'am. I get that the open tables could've been reserved but when we walked back around 9pm to peep inside, it was still empty. We continued our stroll since I didn't want to get the stink eye from the hostess and eventually came back about 9:25pm, those same seats were still empty. In fact, the bar had 3 occupants and only 2 tables had patrons. And we were seated "early" thank you very much! Don't know if the hostess was trying to be exclusive or what, don't know what all the fuss was about being "so busy" until 9:30pm. It was DARK AS HECK inside and I could barely read the menu!! The only reason my pictures don't look dark is thanks to the amazing camera on my phone. I couldn't see what I was eating. I hope everything was sanitary and cooked through! We didn't get sick so that's a good sign all was hygienic. We ordered the chicken sandwich, Sylvain burger and the striped bass. The chicken sandwich was pretty good but nothing to rave about. The burger was supposedly wagyu beef was tough. Granted I ordered it well done but I've had wagyu beef burger well done in other places and they remained tender. The striped bass didn't taste like bass to us, more like tilapia. I can't recommend this place.
Fabulous time at Sylvain
Wonderful experience from the start. Arrived at 4:00 after a long day of sightseeing. Sat at the bar with top flight bartender, Binh, whose attention, easy charm and fabulous cocktails made us feel right at home. Food was delicious and we left very happy. We will definitely return.
Delicious
Very good restaurant where all the dishes hosted by the family were really delicious. So a great place to eat well. The portions are small (surprisingly for the USA) and the prices are a little high. The air conditioning was too strong. But the service was very friendly despite a bit of a wait.
recommendable
All very good, with a dark and mysterious atmosphere, unrestored historic building, reinterpreted and surprising local dishes
Champagne and Frites Brunch
The champagne and frites for brunch were one of the highlights of our trip! The atmosphere and service were spot on. Our group also had a spicy chicken sandwich and a burger. Everything was delicious! We highly recommend and will definitely be back in future visits!
