Red Horse by David Burke White Plains Reviews from The Last Year
Overrated
Slooooooooowwwww. Bar and kitchen. For the exorbitant price you would expect better turn around on drinks and food. Sitting in room with about 10 other tables ... Not one morsel of food delivered to any table in over 15 minutes. Overrated.
He not only provides outstanding service but he also makes
He not only provides outstanding service but he also makes the most amazing drinks. We are experiencing the best service which always is our number one priority when we go out and the food is always perfect. Also, the ladies /waitresses that work at this location are also very sweet and very welcoming. Unfortunately, as far as the manager, Jonathan he has no manners and does not know how to greet the customers. Our personal experience with him has been extremely dissatisfying. In the times that we have bern having dinner/lunch he does not go out of his way to make us feel welcomed or take the time to greet us and if I am not mistaken that is part of any manager job description. Then again, I am very glad he does not provide the food service nor the food.
Went with a large group for dinner.
Staff were fantastic, attentive and the drinks kept flowing. Everything was great, appetizers, popovers, cornbread, tuna & salmon tartare etc. My filet was unfortunately well done despite my request for medium rare but I was so full by the time it got there I took several bites and left it as-is. Full experience was great. Definitely recommend this place and plan to go back.
Bartenders are great.
Food average. Had a 55 dollar filet could not finish. It tasted freezer burned.
I had a very nice lunch here.
We started with the bacon appetizer and the butternut squash soup. The soup was excellent, super rich and delicious. The bacon comes served on a rack with clothes pins, which is fun as well as tasty. For entrées, we ordered the short rib and the burger. The burger was unbelievable, really juicy and prime, with homemade pickles and delicious french fries. The short rib was also really tender and perfect on top of a bed of roasted vegetables. Loved it! For dessert we had pecan pie and The chocolate cake because we were told that the cotton candy machine broke. We really wanted the cake pop dessert with the cotton candy. oh well! I would love to give it four stars for the food, but the service was lacking. We were not acknowledged for more than 10 minutes. We had no water, no drinks, no cocktails, nothing. I had to get up and see the maître d' to tell him that we had no waitress or waiter. He had a bit of an attitude. It was not a good way to start. Will I be back, I'm not sure.
This is the first time that I'm giving a restaurant a five
This is the first time that I'm giving a restaurant a five star review when the restaurant is not a good fit for me. At least not when it's very crowded. The food and service here are spectacular. And the portion sizes during Restaurant Week are incredibly generous, unlike some other restaurants that skimp when promotions are offered. However, the acoustics here are not very good and you feel like you're at a party. in addition, there's a pool table that can be used by anyone, and during dinner, I find the noise too jarring. That said, many people love this kind of setting. One only has to look around to see how much most patrons love being here. For me, however, quiet intimate restaurants are more my style.
Horrendous service and food for the price point.
The food was extremely underwhelming and the wait staff is not attentive to guests. Each course of the prefixed Easter meal was "backed up" and the wait time in between was physically painful to the point where I wanted to take a nap at the table. Although the wait staff are kind, they did not seem to pay mind to guests and were quite oblivious. If you're going to charge that much for your steaks your service should be on point. Waste of money !!!!!
A five star upscale experience.
Make sure you have reservations. Our server was friendly and attentive. My entree, 12 oz NY Strip was juicy and delicious. The whipped potatoes were freshly made and tasty. I had 2 of the espresso cafetinis, which were also very good. The menu items are priced in the ($$-$$$) range. I didn't find this to be very intimate, as there were 100+ people engaged in conversation at the same time. All in all, I enjoyed the experience.
Extremely rude hostess.
The food was average at best but came with a premium price tag. Oysters meh. Lobster dumplings meh. There is much better sushi across the street for less at Shiki Sushi.
My wife and I had a wonderful evening here on a busy
My wife and I had a wonderful evening here on a busy Saturday. The bacon, crab cakes, and filet mignon were our favorites, perfectly executed. The special attention from our waitress, Carly, made this a truly memorable anniversary. Thank you all!
We had my 40th birthday at Red Horse and it was all that I
We had my 40th birthday at Red Horse and it was all that I wanted and more. The service, food, drinks, and ambiance all exceeded my expectations. Jonathan was an exceptional planner, and communicative throughout the process to make sure the event went off without a hitch. Carly and Corey kept the guests fed, and never without a drink. The guests had the best time, which mattered a lot to me. Truly a great venue if you're looking to check all the boxes- food, service, drinks and atmosphere!
Has Potential, Needs Work
I had read about Red Horse, had reviewed the menu and was looking forward to checking it out. Overall the experience was pretty good. The service was poor - it took way too long to get a round of drinks and order, despite the restaurant being about half capacity. The ambiance could be better - I got a bit more "hotel restaurant" vibe than I expected. It's quite a large dining room and could do with more decoration to liven it up. Back to the service - the waiter neglected to give us the special restaurant week menu, which we had to ask for, and actually was a good value. On to the good stuff - the food was quite good. Everyone loved the bison short ribs. My wife's filet mignon was delicious, if slightly over-cooked. The Brussels sprouts were excellent, but the "angry" broccoli was not very angry at all, and could have used more spice. Not sure I'd go again - there are a lot of better options between White Plains, Port Chester and Greenwich.
We loved this place!
Beautiful place love the decor easy parking in really close garage if you can’t find a spot on the street. We came for lunch. The drinks were amazing. I had a skinny margarita my fried had specialty cocktail. Most places don’t get the skinny margarita, right…this place did. Loved the cornbread and popover nice presentation. I had the Burrata salad for lunch. It was excellent my friend had the bison short rib sandwich. Our waitress suggested the chocolate mousse cake for dessert again great presentation, and really good. It was a lovely lunch and I would not hesitate to go back. It starts with quality ingredients that why everything taste so delicious. The staff really makes this place over the top, especially our waitress Margarite she was ver attentive and we had lots of laughs with her. Don’t hesitate you need try Red Horse!
Skip it.
Terrible service, cold food, small portions, dry popovers, cold soup, little value, noisy, not enough waiters Eh...
Never again
This restaurant should close immediately. $75 dover sole was way overdone and tasted like a mrs Paul fish stick. Pop overs and broccoli never came. What a mess this place is.
Wonderful White Plains Restaurant
I really enjoy the ambiance and food here. It is kid friendly but quiet enough for an intimate date night. The staff is wonderful and they make you feel special. Most importantly though, the food is amazing. Almost every dish whether it is the steak, salmon, tartar or soup is made deliciously. I would try this place even if it is just for cocktails with friends.
Looking Forward to Eating Here and Were Really Let Down
Yesterday (a Friday evening) we had a truly disappointing meal at a very expensive restaurant by an American food icon. Started out great with tiny mustard flavored straws in little bottle with some virgin extra olive oil. Great. Then some very over priced oysters, but so far so good. Then things went from bad to worse. We picked an appetizer of scrambled eggs with caviar (for some reason served in an ostrich egg shell). It arrived with an enormous amount of egg with some tiny flecks of caviar barely visible. The eggs were worse than those you get at a breakfast buffet. Dense without the faintest taste of caviar. There might have also been a promise of truffle, also absent. It was a special so you won't find it on the online menu. Then VERY expensive Dover Sole. We were told that it would not be a table side preparation, which should have been a clue. It came with a fishbone (it looked fried) that was supposed to be reassuring. It could NOT have been true Dover Sole, which must be portioned and trimmed at the table, and was outrageously over cooked and came with an utterly tasteless sauce. Wonderful service, nice room, don't go there. The one in Jersey is probably as bad. Oh, the brussels sprouts were ok.
An underwhelming experience from start to finish both from the kitchen and the wait staff. Miss this one!
From start to finish this was a poor experience. First had to flag down the hostess to get a waiter to pay attention to us. The costly bread service had pop overs that were over baked, dried out, and hard. When it came to the service the waiters had no idea which dish went to which of six diners. Unacceptable at an expensive high end restaurant. In the main courses, one steak which was supposed to be split between two diners was not and had to go back to the kitchen getting cold…and was tough. Another diner had the shrimp and octopus main course which came out cold, was sent back to the kitchen and was then served over cooked and tough. They did however acknowledge that problem by taking the cost of that main course of the bill. All of this while the celebrity chef was socializing with friends in the dining room or with a young lady at the hotel desk instead of paying attention to the problems in the restaurant. Overall an underwhelming experience at an expensive restaurant.
Red Horse of Hell
It's difficult to adequately express how disappointing our experience at this restaurant was, and I find myself wishing for a refund. I'm truly baffled by how this establishment managed to earn the title of "best of Westchester," as my impression is that it's actually the opposite – the worst in Westchester. From the moment we arrived, the service was painfully slow. Even simple tasks like receiving drinks and water took an agonizingly long 20-30 minutes. At one point, I had to resort to sipping my guest's water to prevent choking on the dry food. The drinks, while reasonably priced, arrived late and were diluted due to the melted ice, despite the restaurant not being busy. Although we intended to order three bottles of white wine, all were unavailable, leaving us with only one option. Our server didn't offer to let us taste it before pouring, nor did they bother chilling it properly, giving us an ice bucket filled with completely melted ice water. Our attempt to start with the "for the table" pre-appetizers ended in frustration. Not only did they take half an hour to arrive, but they were also mistakenly delivered to the wrong table. Our server didn't check on us, even when the pre-appetizers were nowhere to be seen, and we ended up receiving only our regular appetizers. When I pointed out that another table had received our pre-appetizers, our server acknowledged the mistake but had no intention of rectifying it. A manager eventually brought a replacement batch after we had finished our appetizers, only to exhibit annoyance when we declined them, repeatedly making passive-aggressive comments about the situation. They even managed to forget half of our appetizer order and only remembered after a reminder. The quality of the seafood was abysmal, tasting as though it had been left out for a week and possessing an unusual aftertaste. The steak, ordered medium, arrived medium-well with no hint of pink or red in the center. The fries were both cold and soggy, and even the supposedly famous lobster – a point of pride for the restaurant – resembled the taste of dirty socks and was exceptionally dry. The fried rice was undoubtedly reheated in a microwave or prepared using instant methods, resulting in a lackluster, soggy, and flavorless dish. The disappointment was so profound that we skipped dessert out of fear for what that experience might entail. I implore you not to squander your hard-earned money at this establishment; the overall quality is genuinely subpar.
Second disappointing dinner.
Three of us had dinner soon after the restaurant opened. It was clearly not ready for prime time. We returned in July. Dinner was just as disappointing, we won’t be back. The clothesline bacon is an enjoyable treat when shared three ways. But then the entrées arrived. My steak ordered medium rare came out lukewarm and medium well. When a steak house can’t get steaks right you know it’s a failure. The two pork chop dinners were okay. They were served Portuguese style with clams. Too bad they were somewhere drowning in sauce. The vegetable and potatoes sides were also lukewarm. And then we made the mistake of ordering dessert. The waffle and gelato sounded interesting. Took forever to be served, and when they arrived the waffle was cold the gelato half melted. There is nothing unique or showy or even very good about Red Horse. Does not live up to the hype.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
