PUBLIC Hotel New York Reviews from The Last Year
DON'T COME HERE My friend and I booked PUBLIC Hotel for
DON'T COME HERE My friend and I booked PUBLIC Hotel for our first time in NYC to make our experience even more memorable and special. Unfortunately, our stay was disappointing for many reasons. Every staff member we interacted with was polite but very cold. Everyone seemed to have this vibe that they were too important for anyone else. Our room also lacked very basic items, especially for $500/night at a hotel that nice. For check-in, I went to the check-in kiosk and it told me that our room wasn't ready yet. The attendant there asked us if he could help us, so I told him what the kiosk said. He went to his computer to figure out what was going on and asked us to wait at the seating area nearby. After a few minutes, he informed us that our room was ready and handed us our keys. The attendant didn't explain why we couldn't initially check in on the kiosk or apologize for the delay. When we got to our room, we were blown away by how beautiful it was and how impressive the view was. We looked for slippers in the room, only to find out there weren't any. We called the front desk to request two pairs and someone brought them to our room shortly after. My friend and I were surprised that a hotel as nice as PUBLIC didn't have room slippers already but we brushed it off. Later that evening, we went to ROOF for some drinks and to enjoy the view. We ordered some fries to snack on before dinner. Since we didn't want to make ourselves full, we wanted to box our leftover fries. I looked around for someone to help us, and three workers were standing together by the bar. I raised my hand to get their attention, and they all made eye contact with me before ignoring me. I then asked the gentleman who brought our fries out for a box. When I asked him, he gave me (in the nicest terms) a confused look, as if my request was ridiculous before bringing us a to-go box. One of the three workers eventually came up to us to apologize if it seemed like they had ignored us and said they were confused if we needed assistance. I'll take her word for it, but it certainly didn't feel good at the moment. My friend and I returned to our room after dinner and showered. We discovered there were no robes, yet another basic thing our room didn't have. We forgot to pack toothpaste, so we called the front desk to see if they had any. They informed us that they had toothbrush/toothpaste kits and asked that we come down to get them. At this point, it was 11 PM, our hair was still wet from showering, and we were tired. Was it that big of an ask to have someone bring it up to us? At the end of the day, hotels are in the business of hospitality and service, and we simply didn't feel welcome. I hope that future guests don't have the same experience as us, but it was disappointing that a part of our NYC trip we were looking forward to fell so short.

Sarah from the rooftop bar was the absolute best!!! Thank you so much for your help and recommendations for our trip!
Public Hotel surpassed my expectations on every level.
The ambiance is inviting and very aesthetic, the staff is attentive and friendly, and the rooms are comfortable and well-maintained. With a night bar and rooftop bar, guests have plenty of options for relaxation and enjoyment. A fantastic choice for anyone seeking a memorable and affordable stay in SOHO.

I tried to give this info privately to Public, but their site provides no way to send them feedback. Stylish and nicely appointed room at a good price for the location, but there are lots of little things about this place that make it feel like they don't care that much. The connecting door between rooms blocks no sound. I could hear the zipper on our neighbor's luggage. Upgrading these to insulated exterior-grade doors would be a huge upgrade for guest happiness. Closet doors in both rooms 1140 and 704 - hinges were broken, so door hung and in 1140 scraped on floor, so you couldn't open it without first lifting the heavy mirror-door. ROOM card says the in-room cooler is 46° and just for beverages. Says "For anything that needs to be refrigerated, we would be happy to refrigerate it for you." When we tried to use this amenity at the front desk, the attendant wasn't familiar with this and called her manager who said that they won't do this. I know this is not a huge deal, but then don't advertise the amenity or train your staff on the offerings. We didn't request an ADA room, but we got 704 which is one. We mentioned it to the woman at the front and she said it didn't show up as an ADA room on her iPad. It is... we stayed in two King + Sofa bed rooms and the designs are totally different. The ADA bathroom is huge with lots of handrails and a tub and the room is fairly plain without the wood enclosure for the king bed. These are all small issues. The room is nice enough to garner $500 a night downtown. The takeaway cafe, Louis, has good sandwiches and whatnot if you need something convenient. The public spaces are very pretty with great lighting and ample seating to find your own nook with friends.
AVOID THIS HOTEL!!! My recent multiple-day stay at this
AVOID THIS HOTEL!!! My recent multiple-day stay at this hotel was nothing short of disappointing and disheartening. Despite my reservations, I encountered an array of issues that marred my experience. The most worst among them was the theft of electronics from my room. Despite lodging a formal complaint, the manager, Leilani, failed to address the matter, reneging on promises of follow-up communication. Additionally, I was subjected to unexplained extra charges on my bill, for which the staff could not provide adequate explanation or an itemized invoice, reflecting poorly on the establishment's integrity. Throughout my stay, the majority of the staff exhibited a lackluster attitude and a disconcerting absence of hospitality. Notably, the manager was conspicuously absent, compounding the sense of neglect and disregard. While the hotel boasts an appealing aesthetic, the level of service at the Public Hotel falls far short of expectations. Conversely, my experiences at the Moxy near Times Square were vastly superior, characterized by attentive and competent staff. They also have a stunning roof top bar. In light of my experience, I strongly advise against patronizing this establishment. Reflecting on my stay, I regret choosing this hotel and wish I had opted for alternative accommodations. Despite my efforts to salvage my trip, the pervasive disappointment lingers.Do yourself a favor and skip this place.
My recent stay at Public Hotel in New York exceeded all
My recent stay at Public Hotel in New York exceeded all expectations, thanks to their exceptional service and captivating ambiance. From the moment I arrived, the staff at Public Hotel were incredibly accommodating, ensuring that every aspect of my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Whether it was arranging transportation, providing recommendations for local attractions, or simply ensuring that all my needs were met, their attentiveness was truly remarkable. As for the ambiance, it's nothing short of amazing. The hotel boasts a sleek and modern design that exudes sophistication while still feeling welcoming and cozy. From the stylish lobby to the chic rooftop bar, every corner of Public Hotel is thoughtfully curated to create an atmosphere that's both chic and inviting. Overall, my experience at Public Hotel was nothing short of delightful. Whether you're visiting New York for business or leisure, I highly recommend staying at Public Hotel for an unforgettable experience.
LES or somewhere more international?
From the free luggage lockers to the sumptuous sofas and the easy self-service everything, Public was a great weekend. Our Queen room, though small, was very comfortable and sleek. The hotel is quiet with several bars, restaurants and space to settle in for work. Although we came to play! Catch the sunset on the roof, coffee and breakfast super reasonable, filtered water and ice and great housekeeping. Location great for Bowery Ballroom, easy access to Brooklyn or shopping in SOHO. Also don’t miss Freeman’s for great bartenders and food around the corner!
A great meal
I had an excellent dinner with Ricardo as my server. He guided me to the best dinner - a sticky prawn dish. It was delicious. As I traveled solo - I appreciated his attentiveness to me and making sure I had a great dinner. Highly recommend dining with Ricardo.
Ricardo the waiter
Ricardo was wonderful and entertaining — he loves what he does and knows the menu very well! Highly recommend for his service, friendliness and personality. Drinks were stiff and food was fresh and tasty! Happy hour is from 6-7 Sunday thru Thursday — hotel guests get 50% off the entire bill!
Little Joe is the best ever
Little Joe was amazing, he was so knowledgeable on every cocktail possible. He is so skilled and so charming, he’s amazing. What’s really made our stay here is little Joe service at the bar. He’s honestly amazing. I wish every bar I went to had little Joe. Love him!!! Absolute babe!!!!! He makes the best cocktails.
Incredible Experience, Cannot Recommend More!!
The PUBLIC Hotel and their amazing staff allowed me to have the best night of my life this weekend. I proposed to my girlfriend on the incredibly scenic roof with amazing views. The sunset was perfect, and the igloos on the roof were perfectly decorated, adding a nice touch post-proposal. The staff was beyond accommodating, helping me with my every need for both the proposal and my stay at the hotel. I felt incredibly at ease during what I thought would be a high-stress moment due to the staff and their professionalism. Highly recommend the hotel for both a simple stay and hosting any type of event, you will be in great hands!!
BEST HOTEL!!!!
My boyfriend proposed to me on the rooftop of the Public Hotel and it was truly the most magical moment of my life. I walked in to a breathtaking set up of a winter wonderland filled with fire places, lights, an igloo, and music playing. All of the staff were incredible. They led me to my boyfriend where I found him waiting for me overlooking the most incredible skyline of NYC. Then we stayed in the penthouse, which was the most beautiful hotel room I have ever been in. It was chic, comfy, warm, and so clean. The bed was extremely comfortable and the hotel toiletries were great. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. 5+++++++ stars!!!
DANTE IS AMAZING! CANT WAIT!
Honestly, even though my stay is still not until later on, I couldn't wait to express my gratitude for Dante's incredible customer support and reservation assistance. His efforts have truly made a difference, going above and beyond to ensure my experience is nothing short of exceptional. His attention to detail and genuine care have truly made me excited for my stay at this hotel.
Public hotel rooftop - 10/10 would come back!
Went to the rooftop bar with some friends this past weekend in New York. The most amazing views of the city! They have individual yurts that are perfect for early spring when there is a breeze or it cools off after sunset. The service was phenomenal - Destiny was very attentive and the kitchen was able to accommodate GF menu options. The braised short rib was so tender. Will certainly be back!!
Great food great service
Raven was great she was very attentive she focused on the experience. We had a great time for our little new york trip. Recommend the ceviche and lomo if they have it in season. We also recommend any of the pisco sours they are all delicious and well made.

Over the years, I did come here for different events, some that take place during Fashion Week in NYC and some at just various times of the year. This is a nice hotel and the event space was very nice. I would say overall, not a bad way to spend the day and socialize with friends and to also enjoy some cocktails at the bar downstairs. The event I did go for Fashion Week in 2024 was very nice, 5 days ago.
Worst experience of my life.
"Self service" hotel meaning no one helps with your bags, no one helps you check in, no room service. The shower was broken as well as the air conditioner. I wouldn't stay here again if they paid me.
What a Night ! In this restaurant
Excellent Service and Food ! Our Server Ricardo made our night very special, he went above and beyond ! His recommendations were excellent ! ❤️❤️ We never had been treated like family in a restaurant with this type of gastronomy, Normally is very superficial

You should know: Once I gave the bar at Public my boyfriend's birthday cake to hold while we got seated at a table we reserved. The drinks were overpriced, it wasn't my vibe, but it's what he wanted for his special day so I set it up for him. When we were seated and I asked for the cake, they'd lost the candles and sliced the cake into small irregular pieces, only maybe four or five of which were actually served. He could not blow his candles out for his birthday. Nightlife people work very hard and 99/100 times I'm on their side--and this is my first ever negative Yelp review--but this time some doofus in a suit appeared from nowhere, acted like it was our fault, threw a grown-man tantrum, and sent a bunch of bouncers to surround us to get us to pay full retail price for the 95% ice drinks they served while we were waiting. It's beyond disgusting that these clowns have a knock-off of Diego Rivera's beautiful Man at the Crossroads hanging on their wall. It's so ridiculous that these petty status-seeking incompetents should steal such a symbol of hope and brotherhood for their operation. I will accept no refund. If the post is deleted, I will make five more. I have a Google alert set for Ian Schager so I can celebrate when he takes his golden escalator ride to hell. I will pop a bottle again when his tacky Instagram hotel fails too. Please avoid Public for anything important. Trust only as far as you might throw. Just go to Standard.
Enjoyed my stay.
Thank you. The Garden is great for smoking. No New York Times or Sewing kits though
Simply the worst hotel experience i've ever had.
My brother and I had to stay on the pull out couch and there was a metal bar on my back the whole time I was sleeping causing me to not get any sleep. The amenities were truly disappointing in that they were non-existent. If you want a towel from someone that works there they won't give it to you. And you will have to walk down to maintenance and get it yourself. You will almost definitely need a towel because they do not stock the room properly with towels. Overall was a terrible experience and I hope anyone on this app that is looking at this doesn't have to go through this.

My husband and I stayed here a couple of days ago for my birthday celebration. We arrived to the hotel very early and we had the pleasure of meeting a young gentleman named Travis. Travis was very kind and informative. While we were checking in it gave us the option to select an upgrade. Since it was my birthday we thought "why not?" and asked Travis for his input on which upgrade to get. Travis gave us his opinion and then upgraded us for free with no hesitation. This was extremely special to us because it was our first time in New York, Travis truly started our trip so great. I hope that others who stay at public have the same opportunity of encountering someone like Travis. We stayed in A great view king room we were on floor 14. Everyone at the hotel was extremely accommodating and kind. The room is about 200 square feet, which is pretty small. But you can maximize space by being organized. Our only issue was that the shower was connected to the toilet, basically a wet bath. By the time you finish showering the entire area around the toilet is wet. We had to request towels because it was completely drenched. Like I said the Staff was extremely accommodating, they picked up on the first call and had towels sent to our room within minutes. We also ordered take-out through Doordash and had no issues getting it. When we checked out we didn't have the opportunity to see Travis again, so when we got home I decided to call public and speak to a manager regarding our amazing encounter with Travis. We ended up speaking to Dante who is a manager at public hotel, and he was amazing as well. He was super happy to hear about our experience at public and with Travis. I am happy to say that Public will be our go to hotel when we come back to New York.
Lots of problems no solutions.
I have stayed at the Public before and again this Halloween. What was largely then hiccups it has now grown into larger gastrointestinal problems. The once Guest Lobby with Tea, Coffee and Fruit and turned into a Bar in the evening is now closed at night and when open in the morning you have lukewarm water and cold coffee as an option. The downstairs Coffee Bar will not make you a coffee even 10 minutes before opening and the service once excellent is now non existent. Bitter is the theme here. The Guest Lobby is supposedly for Guests but the Homeless Man who was either a Halloween Costume as it was that night/day seemed familiar with the layout of the past and complained about it while literally telling me about being "Homeless" and interrogating me about my life. It was disconcerting and disturbing. I told two separate Staff and gave my info to one and heard nothing about it. The next day crickets as well upon checking out. And hidden fees they have a few. Ask about the "Access" Fee which I assume is for the not so private library and the Rooftop Bar that you must have reservations or be a Guest for. I have yet been to said bar despite staying twice there. But two times was enough so I guess I never will. I did write the Management of the Hotel post stay about the comparisons of the two times I have stayed there and how disappointing this was, I am still waiting for the response. I assume it is not coming or is like the coffee - cold and bitter in taste.

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
