Portale New York Reviews from The Last Year
Our food was delicious and beautifully presented.
The spicy Risotto was a beautiful pale green and seasoned just right for my taste. Our vegetarian guest enjoyed the Cavatelli and pronounced it a dish worth returning for. We all shared the Brussels sprouts, another delicious vegetarian dish. The Burrata was creamy and complemented by the figs and arugula. It was delectable with or without the ham. We had the prosciutto served on the side for the meat eaters. It was a splendid meal. We'll be back.
New favorite restaurant in NYC!! Just incredible food,
New favorite restaurant in NYC!! Just incredible food, amazing service. Every dish a work of art. The entire team made a big night very special!
Perfect Saturday night
Superb dinner experience throughout. The welcome from the cost check and host team was really lovely, started our evening off perfectly. The atmosphere of the main dining area is buzzy and made for a perfect Saturday night. It is loud as other reviews comment but a great balance for us. We weren’t looking to be in quiet dining room. The mixed seafood starter was absolutely delicious, so fresh. I’d highly commend the olive oil cake for dessert. I’ve eaten this a few times in Italy and this was the real deal. For the standard of food quality and service here, we felt decent value for money was offered. In short, if you’re looking for outstanding Italian food with a slight twist on the classics, then this a good choice. We’d certainly come back on our next visit.
We had the pleasure of dining at Portale for the first time
We had the pleasure of dining at Portale for the first time last Sunday evening. EVERYTHING was impressive. the food, the service, and the ambiance were more than anyone could ask for. Our server, Lani, was very knowledgeable about the menu, and made informative comments regarding portion sizes, and flavor combination. Dalia kept the water glasses full, and bussed the table efficiently. We started with the cruddo di tonno, so fresh, and beautifully plated! We shared the appetizer and the primi course, Malfadine. I was pleasantly surprised when they had the courtesy to split the pasta dish in the kitchen, rather than bringing one large serving to the table and having us dish it out (which always seems to get messy). I ordered the Halibut - delicious. My husband loves duck, and orders it whenever he finds it on the menu. He commented that this was the best duck dish that he has ever had. High praise from my husband who doesn't readily give compliments at a restaurant. When we placed our order we asked for suggestion for beverage pairings. Ksenia, the sommelier, was especially helpful, pairing wines that complimented each dish. We finished with the torta di oili - it was so light and refreshing! What a wonderful dining experience!
Sophisticated dishes, delicious.
Sophisticated dishes, not quite traditionally italian, delicious. Our three course meal had a "branzino" that was nice and crisp.
if you've not been to this restaurant, you have failed.
The atmosphere, service and last bit certainly not least THE FOOD. Your palate will be amazed. Brave to Chef Portale... and see you soon !!!
Food was amazing ! Nice place and great energy !
Food was amazing ! Nice place and great energy ! Cocktails is great too ! My waitress was little rude tho, maybe in a bad mood
Came here for a weekday dinner and it was not up to par.
I got the cavatelli which was a pretty small portion for the price and shared a side of bread. The food felt overpriced as the bill came to almost $50 for the little amount of food. But the most uncomfortable part was that we felt very rushed by the waitstaff and hustled out the second we were done eating. Wouldn't come here again.
I would walk by this spot from the gym and it was always
I would walk by this spot from the gym and it was always packed, so was excited to finally stop in the other day for dinner! Cute neighborhood Italian vibes - and when I went upstairs to the bathroom, looked like some great private event space too (noted!). I tried the following for dinner: Crudo di Tonno - tuna tartare - I really enjoyed this one! The cucumber base was a great "carrier" for the tuna that wasn't as carb heavy Mafaldine - I don't see Mafaldine in a ton of menus, so I'm always excited to get it when I see it. Even better in this case where it came with lobster! The highlight though was the Calabrian chili - some of the best pasta sauce I've had recently for sure! And I'd definitely come back just for this dish! Olive oil cake - I'm also a sucker for olive oil cake and this one was delicious! Generously sized slice that's perfect for sharing, and I'm not even an ice cream person but that ice cream was to die for. Portale did not disappoint and will certainly be joining my rotation in the neighborhood!
Portale is consistently amazing - spectacular food,
Portale is consistently amazing - spectacular food, gracious service, great vibe. The mafaldine with lobster is one of my favorite dishes on any restaurant menu in New York. The service feels like being in another era with none of the annoying things that modern NYC restaurants do: they check your coat, they happily seat incomplete parties, when you're splitting a dish, they often split it for you onto two separate plates in the kitchen. Such a great addition to the neighborhood, which is otherwise lacking many great restaurants.
A product of Chef Alfred Portale, and it definitely tastes
A product of Chef Alfred Portale, and it definitely tastes like it. My friend and I had only intended to have a couple drinks and ended up having quite a filling few dishes, best recommended by the staff and close friends of the staff. I was absolutely blown away by the very cool aura of the room, but not too cool that you don't feel the warmth of the pleasant Italian food. Service was absolutely wonderful and everyone was so kind. This would be a perfect place to bring at date for this upcoming Valentine's Day! Special Shoutout to David for making this an amazing first experience. Will be back! *Atmosphere: 10/10 *Food: 9/10 *Service: 10/10 *Price per Person: $70 Must Try Items: *Polpette *Espresso Mezcal Martini
The only reason this place isn't getting 5 stars is because
The only reason this place isn't getting 5 stars is because the service could have been better. For a restaurant this upscale, elegant, and pricey, i shouldn't have to wave my waiter over to refill my water several times throughout the night. The table we were at was tucked in the back, and we felt it -- our server hardly ever came over and we knew if we needed something, we would have to wait quite a while. Otherwise, this spot is amazing. We did four courses and all of them were outstanding. We started with the beet salad which was fresh, well balanced and delicious. We moved on to the pasta - we got the mafaldine which was perfectly cooked al dente and the sauce was just divine. The halibut was buttery, melted in your mouth, and the flavors were so interesting and different. The mushrooms that came with the halibut were excellent as well. That was probably my favorite dish. We finished with dessert (not pictured) - olive oil cake. It was good but not as exciting as any of the prior 3 courses. This is a lovely, upscale spot and I would definitely return.
Great restaurant. Good service.
Portale represents a wonderful offer within the complex NYC restaurant scene. It is Italian cuisine with a modern twist. Wine list is very extensive. Italian ones are awesome. We had a Brunello di Montalcino. Superb. If chef Portale will go down in history for anything, it would be the Risotto. The best I’ve ever tasted. Popette (meat balls) are an outstanding appetizer. Cheesecake is to die for. My review of 4 dots is due to some inconsistencies in service from some waiters. If you’re coming to NYC, give this one a try. It is worth it.
Great food - a bit pricey
After a looong day wandering Manhattan (11 miles walked in the rain and high humidity) we found this gem for dinner. It was recommended by our hotel and only a few blocks walk so we gave it a try. No reservations needed - we were seated immediately when we arrived at 8:15. The burrata salad appetizer was fresh and cool and hit the spot. My wife’s risotto with shrimp was creamy and perfectly done. And my spicy lobster sauce over pasta was excellent too - just the right amount of spice and nicely al dente pasta. One glass of wine, no dessert - our total was $150. Great food in a nice atmosphere, just a little pricey.
Fantastic Italian dinner
Wonderful dinner at Portale. The dining room was packed and as a two top were given a table near the server's station so a bit busy. We enjoyed the crudo di Tonto, pallette, agnolotti, risotto. The entrees were the real stand ours - branzino with confit cherry tomatoes, eggplant puree, olives and broccoli tabe and the ippoglosso (halibut with mushrooms, asparagus and potato puree. Finished the dinner with olive oil cake which was good not memorable. Highly recommend the cocktails- Vecchio Spritz and the Portale. Great service, good pacing and good food. Next time will ask for a table along the wall. Highly recommend!
Portales, my favorite restaurant in NY.
This is a fantastic restaurant. The food is outstanding, Happy hour they have creative drinks and exquisite food for very reasonable prices You can't go wrong here. the dinner offerings are just delicious. From the minute you walk into the restaurant you will be treated like family. This is my favorite place in NY and in my neighborhood. the staff is outstanding. I'm greeted with a smile the minute I walk in the door. Isn't that a nice way to be treated.
A classy, upscale restaurant with friendly staff
As we were walking by, headed to our hotel, this spot with the large windows caught our eye. From the exterior it looked like our kind of place and we knew from the name, there would be great Italian food here. We were NOT disappointed! It was superb!

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
