pasjoli Santa Monica Reviews from The Last Year
3-4 Stars, my birthday today.
My bf and I try this Michelin restaurant to celebrate our birthdays this week. We served it a month ahead, but only got a side table when we arrived . We brought our special birthday cake, but $75 service fee requested here. We ordered the appetizer snail with bone marrow, rich flavor tasting. Lucky we, the canard a la presse is available even though we didn't pre order this set. Not into the breast, but the duck pudding is good. Really enjoy the red and white wine water recommended. My favorite dish is the last chocolate soufflé, soooo tasty. PS: No sitting paper in the restroom~~ lol
I went this past Sunday night.
Paid $300 for dinner for two and woke up at 4AM with food poisoning. I suspect it was the tartare because my date also felt nauseous in the morning. The service was good. Very friendly and attentive. The wine was good, but the short rib was just average.
Loved everything we tried on the menu, the wine pairings
Loved everything we tried on the menu, the wine pairings were divine as well. I'd say this establishment is one of my top 5 favorite restaurants in LA! 10/10
Excellent service and authentic French food.
French food is all about the sauces and this restaurant has all the delicious sauces. We will be back for the duck when we are back in this neighborhood. The duck sauce demo by head chef was great!
Food extremely rich--made my stomach very upset, and this
Food extremely rich--made my stomach very upset, and this does not normally happen to me - ever. The short rib was very fatty and paired with a little pot of puréed potatoes that were 50% butter and 50% potato. Started with savory puffed pasterie with gruyere cheese, and steak tar tar. Both were kind of flavorless, and two hours later--tummy no bueno. The atmosphere is nice and the service is pretty good. The prices are extremely high. The only steak on the menu was $130. The short rib was over $80, not a large dish, fatty with few vegetables. Wines by the glass were $21-34 each. Not worth it. But if the prices were to come down, more veggies added, and food less rich--would be much improved.
Terrible! This restaurant has really gone down the drain.
No wonder they lost their Michelin star. They don't even have the duck press presentation anymore and they use the "covid" excuse. It's 2024! What Covid?? Manager is rude as well which is telling of why the staff feel they can get away with being rude too. The food was average and has really gone down in quality since they first opened. Do not recommend. Many better French restaurants to spend your money.
Disappointing.
My girlfriend and I came here to celebrate a couple of career milestones. Ambience was fine, with the inside decor as if a fixed-gear bike shop decided it were now the bar at a major metropolitan hotel. We were seated in the secret garden, which was well-lit and cozy, but nothing remarkable. Servers seemed equal parts knowledgeable and miserable. I'm not the sort of person who demands the rictus grins of waiters to be part of a good meal, but it felt like they all hated their jobs (which says more about the management than anything else). Food was the biggest let down. The foie de poulet à la Strasbourgeoise (supposedly an Escoffier recipe) hewed close to the original in appearance. However, although the foie de poulet did have a good, smooth texture, this was ruined by the quality of the brioche, which was heavy and tasted slightly stale. The flétan (halibut) was a fine contrast between savory crispy skin and delicate flesh, but my girlfriend's tarte aux oignons was in her words, "inedible" due to a heavy-handed application of salt. The pain perdu was tasty -- perhaps this was where brioche intended for the Strasbourgeoise was lost? Overall, the impression we were given was of inconsistency or of unseen exigencies at play (and this was on a Sunday night). Even though this was Santa Monica, this would have been fine for a meal of perhaps a hundred or so dollars but definitely not for how much it actually was.
Food is great here but overpriced.
Ambiance is good. Drinks are expensive. Worth to try once.
This is a very swanky French restaurant in Santa Monica
This is a very swanky French restaurant in Santa Monica which is great for a special occasion. Things to consider: the outdoor area is very casual compared to the interior. I would think twice about reserving a table here especially given the price point. At the end of our meal, a cockroach climbed up the tree next to us which is not what you want to see when you're paying the prices you're paying. While our server was top notch, even he didn't have words for this except to say he was sorry. I probably would have bought us dessert or taken something off the bill. (Note: They did not offer any compensation.) Things to know: the food is wonderful as is their wine list . The service is 5 stars all around from the host to the runners and the bussers - they were all great! Food: The best things we ordered were the salade d'endives and the tartare. Chefs kiss for both of these. On the contrary, the halibut was a pass for us, but I can see why someone would feel otherwise. All things considered, it was a nice experience at Pasjouli.
I visited here for the first time this past weekend.
I had high hopes, considering they used to have a Michelin star, unfortunately, my experience was not great. I was with my wife and a couple of dinner companions, and we all left underwhelmed. First of all, the prices are obscene. The least expensive cocktail is $22. Maybe Santa Monica rents are incredibly high, but one has to feel you're getting a value for what you're paying no matter the price point or type of cuisine. Unfortunately, nothing that we had lived up to the price point. The food reminded me of a restaurant in a decent hotel: boring and unadventurous. Not bad, but certainly not approaching anything close to greatness. I had the short ribs and it was nothing unique or interesting at all and it was $68. I actually make more satisfying short ribs at home. There was nothing that made it stand out from the dozens of short ribs I've had over the years. In fact, the server kept talking about how it was a 12 hour braise, but I found it to be surprisingly dry. The best dish, we all agreed, was the onion tart for $25. Again those prices - $25 for a tart? And the salads were at least $22. A small plate full of lettuce, dressing and some accoutrement for $22. Well, if I'm getting raked over the coals on pricing and getting less interesting food than I expected, I would at least hope that the service was on par with a Michelin star restaurant. Unfortunately, they failed on that mark as well. Our server didn't know anything about the wines by the glass. I understand not knowing about all of the bottled wines on a list, but a server should have a basic knowledge of wines by the glass. I also had to ask for water several times, no one folded our napkins when we got up to use the restroom, and I had to ask somebody besides my server for the check. There were multiple servers, runners, managers, and hosts wandering around the floor, and nobody seem to pay attention to any of these small, yet important steps of service and service details. If you don't fold a napkin at a table, you're just not paying attention. There are too many other restaurants in LA to explore, so I will not be coming back here. I understand that a restaurant is not going to knock it out of the park every single time, but I do expect a certain level of competence and value for my time and money. I did not experience that here.
Stay away
STAY AWAY - we had the worst night bringing our clients from American film Market here. The food was pretty good BUT the service was outrageous - the girl who was also the manager could not care less about being present. She was rolling her eyes at us, selling us stuff she then later on didn’t have, could not come up with alternatives, was overall just looking for the “man” and not the “ball”. I strongly advise not to waste your money here - one of my worst experiences - and this is coming from a person who travels 120 days per year around the world.
Rude service - great (but overpriced) food.
One star because “0” was not an option. The service in this restaurant is non existent - the kitchen deserve more, but the service staff is ruining it. A lot of bad excuses for delay caused by other tables - even though the restaurant was far from full. The waitress was so rude - believe it’s the worst restaurant-experience I’ve ever had. The food was good - but way overpriced. A lot of room for improvement.
