Moët et Chandon Épernay Reviews from The Last Year
Bit tipsy!
Just did the tour (12 o clock 22 June) and found it very interesting, the guide was very good explaining ithe history and the process and answering the questions. Would definitely recommend, seemed good value for money with 2 good size tasting glasses at the end.
Highly recommend
Thank you to our tour guide Valetta, a fantastic experience! We would highly recommend. Valetta was very informative and friendly.
Loved it worth a visit
Amazing place. Had a wonderful italian tour guide who was very informative and willing to answer any question's. The underground tunnels are truly spectular, and the tasting was pretty good also.
Dom Perignon will meet you at the entrance.
The most famous champagne producer in Epernay is waiting for tourists almost at the beginning of Avenue Champagne, a stone's throw from the city hall. Moet et Chandon traces its history back to 1743 and its cellars stretch 28 km underground. At the entrance you will be greeted by a statue of one of the most famous monks in the world - Dom Perignon. The French came up with the idea of corking unkindly new wine in bottles. But it was the Benedictine monk Pierre Perignon who developed the technology of turning grapes into sparkling wine. Whenever we open champagne, we meet with its discoveries - a special bottle and a cork. The wire-musical was allegedly invented by the widow Clicquot. Inside the Chateau Moet et Chandon, you can admire champagne installations and buy a bottle of one of the most famous champagnes in the world. Frankly speaking, it's not too cheap...
Tastings
We didn’t tour the cellars (we did a tour at a smaller champagne house and figured they are all more or less the same). Anyway, you can walk around the gift shop and then do a tasting at their bar. Which is more of a lounge actually. There is no bar counter. Prices are high, obviously. But the service is nice and the lounge is well kept with nice views.
So worth a visit - even for the non-drinker!!
I don't even drink yet I'm still giving this tour a 5 star rating. The history of the venue and champagne making was eye opening, I learnt so much and loved it all. The underground tasting room was lovely Would highly recommend.
Well Known Stop
World famous Moet champagne house. One of the must-sees. Parking on site sometimes - just depends on the crowds. Easy to walk to, or park nearby if driving. Good size gift shop, tours available. There's also a lounge to the left of the entrance that includes a hat worn by Napoleon during exile on Elba. Lots of history here. Worth a stop. Bathrooms on site as well.
A very classy experience
We did this tour as 4 cousins and had Ainoa as our guide. She was truly amazing and her passion for the whole thing transpired out of her After a very interesting visit of the caves we then did the tasting in a beautifully decorated room in candlelight. We were never rushed and tasted 3 different champagnes. Well worth it !
Tasting with our Polish Guide Violetta
We had an enthusiastic guide, Violetta, who was very warm during our memorable visit. Thanks for tasting! An experience never to be forgotten. Peter and Leen (Belgium)
Nice visit and good tasting
A very pleasant visit, attentive welcome, we learn lots of things about champagne and the cellars are very beautiful and impressive. Nice tasting of two champagnes to end the visit. Great experience.
Beautiful cellars and attention to the customer
M&C, compared to other champagne cellars, is a marketing machine and focuses heavily on large production, something they also say. Nonetheless, our guide (Ainoa) was very good and showed that he had great knowledge of the area. The cellars were really beautiful and the champagnes tasted were valid. Advised!
First-class day with first-class champagne
We had the signature tour today and were completely thrilled. The lady who brought us a little closer to the world of Moet was great. In addition to her native German, she also spoke excellent English and French. The tour was very informative, we learned a lot. Also a huge compliment to the lady in the bar, she made the day perfect.
Not the best visit but ok
We had a good time but the explanations could be more detailed. Too much philosophy in the first part of the visit. A bit factory for tasting; bracelet like at the club med which contrasts with the waiting room which saw Napoleon pass by!! 😃
Look at that
Beautiful stately buildings on the Avenue de Champagne, which really exudes “champagne”. It is nice that Don Pérignon is commemorated by a beautiful statue Dom Pérignon started producing wines in the Champagne region in 1668. He is the inventor of the second fermentation in the bottle and that rightly makes him the inventor of Champagne wine as we currently know it. Dom Pérignon was also the first wine producer to make white wine from blue grapes.
MUST DO!!! CHAMPAGNE IN CHAMPAGNE!
WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! For 40 euro per person, we did the Imperial tasting. We got about an hour tour of the cellars downstairs and then two glasses (with great pours for a tasting by the way) of some champagne. Inoia, our tour guide, was so passionate and knowledgeable. She really made the whole experience. We had so many issues with our trains getting here from Paris, but wow was it worth it.
Amazing visit
Gaultier was an amazing guide through the cellars. Our group of 4 Scottish ladies and an Irish couple had such a fun and informative time. We left feeling that we'd made new friends. Gaultier has so much knowledge and imparts it in a gun and friendly way. We all left so much more informed. From Pauline and her friends, thank you Gaultier. We hope to see you next year
Nice experience
Pleasant and sophisticated bar/lounge. The assistance that helped us choose the champagne, were very approachable and chatty and knowledgeable .
