MIDA Boston Reviews from The Last Year

Passed this place a million times and put it in the back of my mind to try...finally had a lil sumthin' to celebrate and went over to give them a try. I enjoyed the short-rib lasagna nice and tender meat and just enough tomato sauce to make it a delicious lasagna. My husband loved the chicken with risotto and that was adventurous enough for him lol lol. We'll definitely return in the near future fantastic service (sat at the bar w/full service), delicious food, and nice prices too!!! Wonderful experience!!!!
Mida offers a mid-level dining experience with a cozy
Mida offers a mid-level dining experience with a cozy ambiance and very friendly staff. The waiter was particularly attentive to my allergies, which was greatly appreciated. The arancini was a standout dish - warm and delicious from the first bite. However, the carbonara, while pleasantly lemony, left me wanting more. For $25, the portion size seemed inadequate, lacking both in pasta and guanciale. My friends echoed this sentiment; they too felt the dishes were tasty but would have preferred larger portions for the price. Overall, Mida is a mid restaurant: good, but not outstanding. While my friend enjoyed her gnocchi, the waiter's repeated offers for a takeaway box were somewhat intrusive. Considering the prices and portion sizes, I'm uncertain if I would return, despite the positive aspects of the meal.
MIDA had exceptional service and very informed waitstaff
MIDA had exceptional service and very informed waitstaff about their wine selection. The food was good but for the price not as good as expected. The atmosphere did not feel like a fine dining Italian restaurant as it was loud , crowded and provided no intimacy. Overall worth a try but would recommend it for apps and drinks only

Came here for a birthday dinner! I made a reservation the same day since it was a Saturday evening but probably would have been okay to just do a walk in though it was nice to be seated right away. There's a patio for outdoor eating but it was warm out so opted for indoors. They have a very comprehensive drink menu and our waiter made sure to check if we had any questions periodically as well. They were very accommodating of our dietary restrictions and elaborated on potential sources of cross-contamination which was extremely considerate! They bring out warm bread with olive oil. You can also get a side as an appetizer, so we got the charred cauliflower. The sauce was really flavorful but I wish the cauliflower were a little more cooked. For the entree, we got the gnocchi cacio e Pepe and spaccatelli pesto. The gnocchi was soft and the sauce was bright and peppery. The pesto was actually a tomato pesto but still had a very basil forward taste. The drinks were also delicious.
I really enjoyed our meal here at Mida.
We were a large party celebrating my cousins graduation. The service was excellent and the food was even better.
They were very friendly and the food was excellent.
We had a great time and it's a fun atmosphere.
What a gem of a spot.
The ambiance is positively adorable, with clean white decor interior and a quaint plant-adorned exterior with some tables. My friend and I picked this place for it's gluten-free pasta, as she has a gluten allergy and dining out can be challenging. Mida lists it's allergens on the online menu and the waitstaff is happy to work with dietary restrictions. We split a charred cauliflower appetizer, which was laid atop what appeared to be a red pepper sauce base. It was flavorful and outstanding. I ordered the (gluten) red pesto pasta, which was outstanding. The noodles were soft with a small bite and the sauce was rich in flavor, a bit nutty and spicy. My friend ordered the (gluten free) caccio e pepe which she said was tasty. The only downside for gluten free folks is that the pasta portion is notably smaller for the GF pasta than for the regular, as shown in the image of our two pastas. For dessert I had a pistachio gelato, which came with a drizzle of olive oil on top. It was indulgent and delicious. My friend got the raspberry sorbetto which was so creamy you would think it was gelato! In all, really great spot. Justice for the gluten free pasta portions, hence the removal of one star. Otherwise, I cannot recommend Mida enough.
I used to love this place and considered it my go-to spot
I used to love this place and considered it my go-to spot for dinner, but my recent experience was deeply disappointing. First they sat us away from the designated seats within the gate...which is awkward and the outdoor ambiance missed the mark. You feel like you aren't within the restaurant. My guess is it is an effort to expand the space but there was room on the other end where we could have been seated instead. The service I can credit was good and attentive, the server was enthusiastic and personable. So that was a win and the 2 stars are for her. Sadly the food missed the mark tremendously. We ordered the carbonara and the tagliatelle. The sauces were watery and the pasta was drenched in them...which if you know anything about pasta in a hot liquid...it over cooks it. The food options were very limited compared to what I'm used to, and the quality just wasn't the same. It tasted nothing like the delicious meals I've had here before. I invited two friends to try it and it was a little embarrassing how much it missed the mark, put my knowledge of quality restaurants in question. It's disheartening to see one of my favorite places take such a downturn. I hope they can address these issues and return to their former glory.
Really italian italian food.
Really tasty and friendly service. Great experience there.
Unbelievable, as always.
Tried the arancini tonight which were to die for, and pictured here is the gnocchi cacio e Pepe! Light, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. Paired it with a killer espresso martini!! Service was top notch as always, and I will continue to say that the south end location is my favorite for ambience. Small, but not too small. Feels almost home-y.
Great food but slow in coming.
I suspect there are capacity and production challenges in the kitchen of this great restaurant. We arrived on time but our table wasn’t ready, and we were not alone in this. Waiting customers clogged the tight confines as wait staff tried to serve seated customers. When seated, the service was friendly and helpful until my wine glass was empty and I said “yes” to another glass of wine from Puglia. The server brought the bottle but not a new glass, when mine had obvious dregs of sediment in it. I asked for another glass and the tone of service changed like the Boston weather. Armed now with a fresh glass, the waiter poured out the final ounces of the new wine bottle, and the sediment from this bottle, promising to return to top up the glass, which he eventually did. All that sediment made me feel like a bottom feeder. The gap between our starters and entree was too long, again hinting at kitchen capacity issues. As for our waiter, we received no goodbye or acknowledgement as we left. We regretted tipping as much as we tipped. The food was wonderful and I enjoyed my wine from Puglia. The attitude I didn’t need to come to Boston to enjoy.
Just Perfect
Every aspect was excellent. Food was delicious with the carrots oddly enough taking first place over the wonderful duck wings and eggplant. You are surprised that carrots could be the best dish; just try these. (Diners are the next table also declared them the best.) Service was knowlegeable, friendly and efficient. Atmosphere very pleasant. (we had an early concert so we at at 6:45)

I have been to MIDA a couple times now, this location along with the Newton location. Normally I get the paccheri bolognese or the rock shrimp carbonara, with the north shore fruit to misto to start, which is their calamari. This recent visit, I tried the short rib lasagna and arancini. All of the food was solid, per usual... I will say the pasta was a little too al dente and the temperature of the food did not arrive to our table hot but more so warm. Otherwise, the flavors are always spot on and amazing; I just wish the food was more hot. Our server was kind and super helpful. If you are not in the mood for any alcoholic drinks, you can never go wrong with their shirley temple. This location gets pretty packed for dinner time, but the wait for table is never too long. I recommend coming here if you are in the mood for Italian and do not want to go the North End and struggle with finding parking.
Recommend others to try once for the ambiance but I would
Recommend others to try once for the ambiance but I would not return. I was highly surprised it included a small fee to the kitchen. It is ridiculous that the restaurant did not give an advanced notice about the extra cost. They should rename the lasagna to three-bite-lasagna and carbonara to six-bite-carbonara, as it had misled ne to believe it would be suitable for lunch. I came to MIDA with my girlfriend on a Sunday noon. We were quickly seated and the service was great. They helped us change our seats and charge my phone. We ordered arancini, carbonara, and lasagna. Arancini was great but carbonara and lasagna were very small portions. Lasagna was quite salty but carbonara had the right amount of salt. Nothing stood out in terms of food.
Hostess was not welcoming at all, all other staff amazing.
Decor was nice, chair did have food on it from night before

Wonderful spot for dinner! We came for mangia Monday which was a LOT of food (had leftovers) but it was fun to try so many pastas. It seems like their mangia Monday pasta selection changes at times also. Overall, everything was quite salty and we probably could have gotten more bread to pair with the sauces. The service was very attentive aside from the long wait for the last pasta. The interior was quite nice although the lights kept getting dimmer and dimmer as the night went on. - north shore fritto misto (additionally ordered): humongous portion but not too much calamari or clam strips. A pretty coarse (cornmeal?) batter which isn't super crispy but everything was very flavorful. The fried cherry peppers were really tasty but almost too salty and acidic. The fried preserved lemons were pretty good but some pieces tasted bitter. - insalata mista: fresh lettuce with tons of crunchy bread crumbs and pistachios in a bright dressing - gnocchi cacio e pepe: tender and al dente gnocchi with lots of cheesy and pepper, tasty but almost too salty and rich - mushroom risotto: highly recommend, quite a large portion of creamy risotto with bacon (?) bits and a ton of mushrooms (shimeji?) - eggplant Parmesan: comes half portion for mangia Monday, pretty light tomato sauce with soft eggplant (not at all crispy or firm), also quite salty and would have paired well with bread - paccheri bolognese: my favorite pasta! A rich pork sauce paired with slightly bitter broccoli rabe that is picked up with the paccheri pasta - bucatini all amatriciana: chewy pasta with light sauce and large pieces of crispy and meaty guanciale, a bit too rich - pistachio gelato (separately ordered): a very large scoop with flavorful olive oil, the gelato itself tastes more like almonds and is lightly sweet and creamy - citrus cake (gifted for an occasion): citrusy cake with berry topping and yogurt on the side, not too extraordinary
10/10 best Italian food EVER.
Service top notch. Wow wow wow - I can rest in peace. Thank you!
Trip to Boston .
.. worth it! Besides the amazing city - this restaurant made the experience. I've always heard that Boston had incredible Italian food, and this place definitely fit the bill. A small, intimate restaurant with amazing service. If you eat at the bar, ASK FOR LIZ. She provided the most unbelievable recommendations for food and drink while making us feel like family. The cocktails were well-crafted and the food was full of flavor explosions! We got the focaccia (not pictured because I got too excited), roasted carrots (perfect combination of sweet and savory), and the spaccatelli al pesto (pasta perfectly cooked with a nice pesto, chickpea that was like meat but NOT sauce). When I come to Boston. This will be a staple. Thanks Liz!
Minimalist fancy interior that was nice.
The service was kind and attentive. The wine was not fantastic but maybe we didn't order the right thing. Half the roasted chicken was very dry and the other half was juicy. The risotto it was served on was great. The short rib lasagna was just dry all around. I love a little crunch on the outside on lasagna but mine was a little too crunchy. Not very much cheese and the short rib itself was just so so dry. The espresso martini was a good way to end the meal
Came here for weekend brunch and had a fantastic time.
I was debating whether to get the Eggplant Parmesan sandwich or the Shakshuka All' Amatriciana and ended up going with the Shakshuka based on the waitress's suggestion. I'm so glad I did because I think it was the best Shakshuka I've ever had! Even better than Tattes! It was definitely more "solid" compared to other Shakshukas and was filled with tomatoes, ricotta, and eggs, with a heavenly side of toast. The service was attentive and they were nice to let me and my friends sit and talk in the restaurant for an hour after we'd paid the check since they weren't that busy. Would love to come back and try some of their dinner options!
Disgusting food ordered on Doordash.
It was nearly 30$ for a tiny, child sized portion of over-salted, over-cooked, oily gluten free pasta amatriciana. It was such a disappointment. I used my allowance for work on the meal so had to choke it down. Woke up at 3am with a stomach ache. Would NOT recommend. Let my coworkers know how gross and disappointing my 15 noodles were.
Plain out amazing.
Every dish we had was simply delicious and I cannot wait to return. Every trip to Boston this will be one stop we make. Bravo
Small servings
Delicious food but servings were small. Waitress, Danielle suggested we order a few items off the menu to share. Arancini were tasty but the size of ping pong balls. Smallest Arancini I have ever been served. The salad our waitress suggested was delicious but, again, small for 2 people to share. Had a pasta dish suggested to us which was yummy and the short rib lasagna that was the size of an appetizer serving, not entree. Our waitress recommended the orange wine and it did not pair well with our food order. All the food was delicious but we were hungry for more to eat. And, BEWARE, the bill had a charge for kitchen help!!! Why doesn't the owner up the price of the meals instead of using such a tacky way to pay the people preparing the meals?! Seating is tight with the tables VERY close to each other. We won't return as there are plenty of other restaurants in the area to try.
delecious
this was a very delicious meal we had here thank you very much for the stuff and the service was amazing

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
