Meze Greek Restaurant Ellesmere Shropshire Reviews from The Last Year
This place was wonderful! Amazing food and great
This place was wonderful! Amazing food and great atmosphere. Service was great, too. I can't wait to go back!

Belly dancer was playing with fire and bringing it way to close to diners. Music was too loud and food was blah
We were seated almost as soon as we got there.
The waitress was amazing and took her time explaining our different options on the menu. I had the Chicken Souvlaki which was delicious and a got very large portions, which I was very happy about. There was a belly dancer that provided great entertainment and while we were finishing up, the manager stopped by our table to check in and make sure we enjoyed our experience. Overall, great place, great food and will be coming back in the future.
Meze Greek Fusion was introduced to me by a few coworkers.
We went to the restaurant around 11:30am on a Tuesday. The place had just opened, so it wasn't all that busy. It quickly picked up especially with its centralized location in the Gaslamp District. The restaurant seemed fun and inviting as we walked through, Customer service was totally fine. Wait staff was pleasant and friendly. Carlo was our main server, and he had such a vibrant personality. We ordered a couple of apps for the table including babaganoush, hummus, and an olive and feta plate. The babaganoush was great. The pita slices for dipping the sauces were very burnt on the edges. Whatever brine that the olives were in was too salty for my liking. They needed a rinse. I ordered the gyro plate for my entree, which was tasty and hefty. I appreciated that the plate was full to the brim and loaded with generous portions of the lamb and beef gyro, rice, and veggies.
Disappointing food and inattentive service
Sadly the food was not to our taste. All the dishes lacked in flavour and the pork and the chicken on the sharing meze were both inedible and grey in colour. Service was inattentive and somewhat unprofessional they could be clearly heard complaining about a table that had been in for several hours and ‘were they ever going to leave - they need to go already they are taking the p***. We didn’t receive side plates, Items missing from the order which had to be asked for, one drinks service with no check up on the food. Although an aesthetically nice restaurant we will not return for the disappointing food and inattentive service.
Absolutely awful and embarrassing from this place
OMG where do we begin? We have literally just left this place! We are on holiday for my girlfriend’s birthday in a lodge in Ellesmere. We went out for dinner as a four, we didn’t book anywhere as we didn’t know the area so we thought we would walk into town and find somewhere. After getting a few knock backs from various restaurants as it was a Saturday night so quite expected we walked past this place. We got a table straight away and that should have set the alarm bells off. We went in and the place is nice inside, within minutes there was a make member of staff crying quite visibly behind the bar on the phone, none of our business so we didn’t take much notice and to be fair neither did the two other staff members with him, so I hope this guy is ok. We ordered a Meze between three and a separate main of the a chicken with cream dish. The food came out as it should and quite quickly however the quality and taste was not for us, the chicken and pork was really dry and in my experience was frozen meat then thawed and cooked. When the bill came I myself told the server in these exact words “ Would you like some feedback” ? She said yes I said “we thought on the whole the food wasn’t that great and the meat was terrible” She said sorry and would feed this back to the kitchen. I said “we want to pay and don’t want any money off etc” the other lady came and took payment in full like we requested and again I explained the food wasn’t great, after this we left with no issues and didn’t cause any scene etc Myself and my partners dad waited outside while the girls went the Coop next door. After 5-10 minutes they came out and we started to walk back to our car. Then to our absolute amazement some women ran out the restaurant in absolute rage shouting at me saying “are you the man that just complained” I said yes “she was shouting at me that I upset her staff and invited me into the kitchen so see her staff “slaving away over hot coals all day” Honestly in all my life I have never felt so shocked by this outburst, we didn’t like the food we didn’t cause a scene and paid for everything without question! To then be chased by some angry woman shouting at me in the street because she didn’t like our feedback absolutely astounded us! Listen to your customers and never publicly abuse them in the street, we were not rude and we paid for everything without argument at all. Disgusting service from this woman after her Staff where really pleasant throughout the service. Avoid Avoid Avoid unless you like to be screamed at in the street! I welcome your comments and a sincere apology to the way we where spoken to when we showed nothing but curtsey to your staff?
Super great food & service! The best happy hour in all of
Super great food & service! The best happy hour in all of downtown from 3-6pm Sunday- Friday. Valerie and Carlos gave us great service! Highly recommend this place!
We went to this restaurant in the Gaslamp oh gosh
We went to this restaurant in the Gaslamp oh gosh outstanding and gorgeous food I had the leg of lamb it was succulent delicious my husband ha gyro plate so good we tried the dolmas are grape leaves with rice inside huge very tasty, and the falafel were crispy outside and moist inside very herbaceous we also try the flaming saganaki. I highly recommend it.
No Atmosphere & Very Expensive
We arrived at this road side Manor house. Their main income seems to be on Airbnb letting rooms And it’s on TripAdvisor, it’s in your menu the advertising is everywhere. It seems very dirty, Dusty, needs painting, outside seats are made from pallets. It’s not what I was expecting the music is Heart FM when it should be a Greek theme to get you into the mood of escapism. The food was small portions for what you paid and a non-alcoholic cocktail was £7.50 in a small glass. Just an average experience.

En route to Petco and stopped but this friendly and welcoming Med Greek inspired menu. Hummus- a generous portion of smooth and garlicy accompanied with pickled vegetables and perfectly grilled slices of pita. Falafel Meze- another shareable dish of crisp outside and tender inside ball of goodness served with a side salad, pita and tahini. Grilled Manouri & Beet- a nice surprise of grilled manouri cheese served a top of a large salad and assortment of picked vegetables and beets; another shareable dish. Moussaka- Has better but still an ok version, just a little heavy handed on the cream sauce and too much cinnamon/nutmeg for my taste. Great service and atmosphere so a definite return in the near future.
Stopped by for lunch and the food is absolutely delicious.
We had a verity of dishes and shared them all. So very good !
PENNY PINCHING YOU AT EVERY CORNER its ridiculous.
Waiters are trained to be very subtle about the water you order, their default is a $7 bottle of water. I get the elegance in subtlety but with the overall experience here it's obvious what they are doing. Menu has a disclaimer that if you split a plate, you get charged extra. (We weren't planning to split plates anyway) Menu has a 4% surcharge for credit transactions. Generally speaking card companies do 1.7% but on rare occasions a max of 3.5%. So they are taking an extra little cut for themselves because why not It turned out to be a price that I somewhat expected and a price that I pay for at other establishments. BUT THE TASTE of penny pinching at every corner and needing to be on guard just ordering your meal like you need to study the MENU TERMS OF SERVICE is ridiculous, changes the restaurant atmosphere from relaxed modern elegance to a pretentious dump holding you hostage at every corner. Whoever designed their monetization scheme is desperate to penny pinch the customer. On top of all this, food ~35 minutes to come out and we didn't order much. Garbage experience, i'll take my money elsewhere from now on haha. @Management, feel free to reply of course but I do not care for apologies or underhanded "O jeez sorry this experience isn't for you." I spend alot more at other restaurants with the same vibe, the penny pinching through trapping and misleading is not excusable, remove that bs, otherwise i dont care what you have to say lol.
This is a great, intimate place.
Service was great, food was authentic and it is a great place if you want a great value for Greek food. The only thing is that the acoustics is not great and it is hard to hear each other when things are busy.
It was a lovely meal that didn't disappoint.
Whilst the menu may be small, it contained really tasty options. The starters were lovey - some of the best hallumi fries that I have had. Good portion size for the mains. Shame that I had no room left for dessert!Great service & atmosphere.
A disappointed visit to MEZE restaurant in Ellesmere
Visited MEZE to celebrate my son’s Birthday. There was lots of humus and other dips, most of it was bland with no real taste or flavour. Stuffed vine leafs were mushy, did not look home made. Courses were rushed bringing food on the table before finishing the previous course and no collecting empty dishes To make room on relatively small table. A complaint was made about a particular dish but there was no feed back from management.
Tasty greek
Lovely friendly restaurant. Tasty food, plenty of choice. Generous portions. Room had plenty of heaters so was warm enough.
An ideal place for morning coffee in Ellesmere
We had recently had a very positive recommendation for this restaurant, so thought we would have a look at the menu. We were delighted that they were open for coffees, etc., and went inside. Not only was the service excellent and the coffees very good, we were also given a plate of complementary biscuits; the sort of “nice touch” which we haven’t experienced in a tearoom or restaurant for many years. We would heartily recommend.
Good food, service, atmosphere and value
We've dined at The Meze on several occasions and the food is always excellent, the service pleasant and the atmosphere cosy. This time, we went with friends who hadn't eaten there before and they were equally impressed, saying that it reminded them of their Greek holidays. The food portions are generous and good value. Definitely worth many more visits!
Lovely Greek food
This is a really nice restaurant. The food was superb and genuinely Greek food. We had a selection of starters which we shared, the meatballs; courgette and feta fries with an amazing dip; and the vine leaves wrap. All were delicious. For mains we had the metaxa chicken and beef stew (estofada I think) and again both were great choices. We had a really great evening. I would suggest you book as the restaurant was packed so it certainly seems like it is a popular place. I read a previous review about a cat in the restaurant. Yes there is a cat. This reviewer has obviously never been to a Greek restaurant before as all of the restaurants I ever went to in Greece always had cats roaming around. Just adds to the genuine atmosphere of the restaurant. Well done keep it up. I will visit again.
Disgusting
Told these owners before about bloody cats roaming around... Tonight not just cats but a bloody Dog coming down the stairs What a joke Wonder what the response will be. And before you animal lovers chirp up. Stroking a bloody cat and serving food is shocking
