We just returned from our stay at La Samanna. It was a wonderful experience. The resort has a relaxed yet elegant vibe and while there are a good amount of guests, it was spread out enough that it felt quiet and not crowded. We traveled with our almost 4 year old and knew the resort was kid friendly but not kid-focused. The staff were incredibly warm and went ouf of their way to make our son feel welcome. If you do plan to travel with a toddler, it is a quiet resort, so a child(ren) who are used to being around adults would enjoy it. Breakfast and dinners at the resort are relaxed and quiet so we brought activities to entertain our toddler during meals to ensure that we did not disturb the other guests. During our stay there were a few other families but mostly young or middle aged couples. Beach: It was a wonderful few days of spending time at the beach and in our rooftop plunge pool. The beach is huge and chairs are spread out so you don't feel on top of anyone. We rented a cabana on the beach one day. It was nice to have a place to get out of the sun and relax and eat lunch. The staff set up a few umbrellas so that our son could play on the beach in the shade. We rented paddle boards and ventured around the cove. Note: there are boats that dock in the cove area so it can be a little crowded when doing water activities. Also, party boats do dock on the side of the beach near the cabanas and boat guests swim there/use the beach. It can be loud and take away from the relaxed vibe. The other end of the beach is much quieter. Food: The food is excellent and probably even better when you're not entertaining a toddler during meals. If you dine at L'Oursin you must order Marcel's Egg. Sunset cruise: We took a sunset cruise with our toddler which was great. It is a no frills speed boat that takes you around part of the island during sunset. They had a cooler of drinks, including champagne and beer as well as snacks. The captain did a great job of pointing out areas of the island/explainging the history but also giving us space to enjoy the ride to ourselves. Room: We stayed in a one bedroom suite with a "private" rooftop and plunge pool. The suite was large and they set up a small bed for our toddler. The shower pressure is amazing!! There is a small balcony off of the suite level with chairs. The stairs up to the rooftop are steep and narrow but it wasn't really an issue for us but might be for some. The rooftop is "private" - each building with a rooftop has two rooftops areas separated by a wall. We also had a full view of the rooftop of the neighboring building. From the pictures we assumed each rooftop was completely private and only for one suite. There didn't seem to be anyone staying next to us so we didn't feel self-conscious talking on the roof or letting our toddler have fun playing in the pool. Both the rooftop and balcony faced the ocean and the views were gorgeous. At night, we had drinks on the rooftop under the stars. Only issues: There were a couple of times when we called the front desk for assistance- to help clean up a broken glass in the room, extra pillows, help opening the rooftop umbrealla. They were slow to respond and we had to call a couple of times for someone to come. During the first night it sounded like the neighbors below us were playing music with bass. We thought it might just be normal nosies from the pool pump and couldn't confirm it was the neighbors music but the second two nights were much quieter. Overall we greatly appreciated how warm, welcoming and helpful the staff were. The resort is beautiful, the pictures give an accurate representation. It's the nicest resort on the island so if you're traveling to St. Martin you must stay here!
