Indigenous Restaurant Sarasota Reviews from The Last Year
Hidden Gem!
Heard about this restaurant from many people and had to try it for myself. Service on point, timing of food great. Beignets delicious, Pork Belly delightful, Mushroom Bisque to die for, and the Smoked Cobia Crudo appetizer incredible. My stepson had My Uncle’s Burger: absolutely loved it, however did say he regretted ordering the Kanpachi which I ordered and shared some of. It was indeed amazing. My wife had the Arctic Char and was beautifully displayed and prepared. The Chardonnay I ordered was an incredible pairing with all the dishes. This time we were not able to enjoy dessert: a good reason why we have to visit this hidden gem again.
Fantastic - must visit
The food was exceptional and I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant! 10/10 The service was also great! Many thanks to Alan and the rest of the team that looked after us.

over rated food was ok it wasnt horrible but its just ok, parking sucks big song and dance about nothing special
The food was beyond spectacular and presented wonderfully.
Katie our server could not have been more attentive to our every need and she was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and the history. The ambience of the quaint home and how it was laid out just made you so comfortable like you were eating in a friends home! Great dining experience, can't wait to go back!
My husband and I are big foodies and try new restaurants
My husband and I are big foodies and try new restaurants all the time. I strive try to provide accurate descriptions of our experiences, but encourage everyone to try for themselves and make your own options as everyone's palate is different. My husband heard of this restaurant and booked a reservation that took 2 months to get in. We were super excited to try it. The restaurant is a small house that was converted into a restaurant nestled into a quiet residential neighborhood and is very quiet. When we were seated, they asked for drinks so we ordered a cocktail as we got settled, but were told the restaurant does not have a liquor license and therefore only offers wine and beer. I looked at the wine list while using my phone as a flashlight, and a bottle of Quintessa was $385. Seems a little high as this bottle is $100 at Total Wine. I understand a markup, but really?? I looked at wines by the glass, but the options were very limited, so decided to just order water. However, if you like champagne, they did have a bubble section as well. Our server was dressed in shorts, tennis shoes, and a restaurant T-shirt, which looked to be the approved dress code. The tap water brought out I couldn't see through, so obviously didn't drink that! They have a limited dinner menu that had 5 main plates on our Saturday night (March 2024) dinner reservations, but I understand this changes frequently. My husband ordered the red snapper ($40) and I ordered the baked scallops ($37). The snapper was plated beautifully with bright vegetables and a small perfectly cooked piece of snapper. The dish was very good, but the snapper was served at room temperature. The scallop dish was served with a white wine sauce, cut potatoes with Italian bread crumbs and garlic that was broiled in the oven. This was good with an overabundance of flavor. Our service and server were good as well. I really wanted to love this restaurant, but overall, it was just good. I didn't understand the concept. Our meal was good, service was good, the environment was good. Nothing was great! With all of the restaurant competition in our area, this restaurant experience was an overall 6/10 or "GOOD" level for me.
Wow! We are visiting friends who live near Sarasota.
As foodies we often frown about going to someplace in a tourist center. That frown turned into the biggest smile ever! We were wowed from the first nibble of their green curried fish paste. We swooned over our entrees! We might have to fly back to Sarasota just to enjoy another great meal, with super service at Indigenous!
Hype outdistances Haute
I've been twice, once on a weekend and during the week. The weekend 'rush' overwhelms the restaurant. the weeknight visit provided fine service in a relaxed setting. that said, the disappointment begins and ends with the kitchen, which is supposed to be the star of the show. nothing was exceptional and for the hype and the price the chef/owner needs to refocus his game. there is, rightly, plenty of cheering from the press box in Sarasota to elevate restaurants and jobs here, which is fine. Both visits provided the same chagrin over the food. hopefully the chef and the restaurant rebound.
This place is so welcoming and the service was great.
All the servers were very nice, I felt like a true guest at someone's home. The food is unique and amazing. We had the Pork chops, Fish with pistachio, and a soup appetizer and scallops. All so good.

The food was fresh and the flavors were perfection! The sustainable aspect of the selection was inspirational! The Cobia entree was fabulous with so many fresh flavors and Latin influences. The home made turmeric noni chips were amazing and the chi biscotti was the best home made biscotti I have ever tasted! The gluten free options were greatly appreciated! Love the entire experience! Our server was wonderful, attentive and full of information and great suggestions! Ambiance was lovely, a personalized experience with a feeling of privacy and connection to the kitchen!
I love to dine at local restaurants that have been
I love to dine at local restaurants that have been nominated for James Beard Best Chef awards. Indigenous is the only Sarasota restaurant to receive recent recognition. Indigenous has a limited menu, with a heavy focus on seafood. The restaurant's name emphasizes its locally sourced meats, seafood and ingredients. When I made my reservation, they only seat solo parties at the bar. Gary, the bartender and server took good care of me. The downside is I stared at wine bottles and beer in the refrig all night. When you read reviews on Yelp, the two menu items you must order are the Wild Mushroom Bisque, which is heavenly, and the Parmesan Beignets, which are super yummy. They are served with local honey and pears. Amazing! Gary said the Cheshire Pork Chop was his favorite, so that supported my choice. Loved the caramelized brown sugar. What was missing was the buzz or energy that I find at great restaurants. Some of that is created by guests, some by the staff. The bar dining area lacked that.
This place is incredible! We had a group of four, ordered
This place is incredible! We had a group of four, ordered two appetizers, five entrees and two desserts plus cappuccinos - It made us say "ugh, life is gooooood!" After we scrapped our plates clean! would recommend this place over and over!
A lovely meal
Great food and superb service. It is expensive and it would be best to go when the weather is warmer. However, they have put up curtains and installed heaters.
While the food was good and service solid, the atmosphere
While the food was good and service solid, the atmosphere was boring and lacked soul. The menu is is focused on seafood. The restaurant only serves beer and wine; overall the bottle wine selection was good. We choose a nice bottle from Oregon. The Cobia appetizer was tasty and a highlight of the meal. We were celebrating a special occasion and while it was acknowledged, nothing else? We often dine with friends so no plans to return, much better options in the area. Cheers!
Glad we visited
I was a little apprehensive before visiting as the reviews were mixed. We had a delicious and well presented meal. We were seated inside in a quiet area. Our server was attentive and gave us a short history of the restaurant and menu. My partner had a draft beer and I had a Cotes de Rhône wine. We both ordered the mushroom bisque which was outstanding on a chilly ( for Fl) evening. We both had the double burgers which were juicy and flavorful. They were filling so the server graciously boxed up the leftovers. Nothing to not like and fun to eat in an old Florida home. We had no trouble with on street parking.
If you take your chances good luck!
- we had a written confirmed inside table reservation last night (it was cold and rainy) - despite showing this documentation to several employees and managers they refused to find a table for us inside. They admitted it was their error, however. - we sat outside in the rainy cold balcony where more than half the overhead heaters were broken and inoperative. Staff said they had been broken for quite some time. - food was good but much more expensive than listed herein: $40.00 for a one rib pork chop? - I was driving so not drinking my wife got a glass of wine - about a three ounce pour.
Excellent dinner
Food was all excellent. Service top notch. We had grouper and trout for entrees, cobia and Cesar salad for starters and chocolate torte for dessert.

we came here for the new year's eve dinner and it was delicious! the staff was very kind, the restaurant had wonderful ambiance, and it was an overall great experience. the butternut squash fritters, corn chowder, and chocolate torte were favorites at our table!
Loved the outdoor space but won’t be back
What a disappointment. We saw the mixed reviews and I will say they were earned. Ambience outside was a 10 but our meals were just simply not good. The mushroom shwarma was annihilated with salt and garlic and inedible. The sushi grade seared cobia was tough and chewy. We wanted to love the experience but were totally turned off and regretfully won’t be back.
Not sure why anyone go here more than once
The area and restaurant itself is unusual and cute. Parking is hard and it’s very dark and noisy inside. Service was pretty good. Maybe we all got the wrong dishes but no one enjoyed what they had. The mushroom schwarma was served cold ($30) and was so salty it was not edible. The trout was not as good as expected and the sauce overwhelmed it, and the $25 burger was just a burger. Since the menu is so limited, I don’t know what else would have been better. It was so expensive and the meals include nothing…no salad, no bread. So I came home and made myself dinner.
STRICTLY FOR THE VEGAN AND RAW FISH PEOPLE!
Not for the meat and potatoes people. OK! The positives first. Nice hostesses. Very clean and tastefully decorated. Not too noisey. Classy clientel. Mushroom soup was to die for. Good wine list at reasonable prices. Negatives: Very limited menu. Five choices. Take out the raw fish and vegan dishes and that leaves three. My scallops, although requested well done, were still raw. That leaves the pork chop. Service was just OK. Lots of staff wandering around but service was only fair with the exception of the bus girl who was attentive and charming. We won't be back
NOT ALLERGY FRIENDLY …AT ALL!!!
We wanted to try a new place that had been featured in the local newspaper! The place was very nice and our waitress very friendly! We have had the opportunity to travel all over the world and have had chances to dine in extremely fancy and extremely modest restaurants…WE HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A PLACE THAT REFUSED TO MODIFY A DISH DUE TO A FOOD ALLERGY… the chef apparently would not remove the hollandaise sauce on the pork chop dish so my son could have diner!! Crazy really! The mushroom bisque was amazing though! The burger was not good which my son had to have without a bun since it was a brioche bun or the indegenous sauce which contained mayo…so the chef, by the way, could modify the burger but not the pork chops!?!?! Extremely disappointing! We will not return!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res

Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
