Happy Seasons Restaurant Manchester Reviews from The Last Year
Best Chinese Restaurant in Manchester
We opted for the Banquet menu and were not disappointed. Every course was absolutely amazing. Compliments to the Chefs and the service was top class. See you next time we are in Manchester. We will now be regular customers. Thanks for a great evening
Outstanding again
We have been going to this restaurant for 30 years now and both we and our children still do because it's excellent. Fresh dim sum very aromatic and tasty together with generous portions of mains. The three roast meat is legendary and rightly so, tender meats yet crispy skin absolutely fantastic! The noodles with beansprouts were fresh and crunchy-overall excellent and exceptional value for money. I really don't understand why there are some negative reviews, maybe they can never be satisfied or just plain don't know what they are talking about!
Don't believe the hype
Big load of fuss over nothing in my opinion Tiny place, uncomfortable seating, squashed together like a canteen Rushed service with not much customer care (if at all), expensive compared to better places in Chinatown & the food wasn't all that I had the mixed chow mein, very bland and far too much sauce, weird meats and seafood, some very overcooked, my hubby had the 3 meats and rice, very fatty cheap cuts and not much of it, and £4.50 for a small bottle of Tiger is extortionate. Wouldn't recommend and certainly wouldn't queue
Impressed
Having followed on Instagram for months and wanting to visit, took a work opportunity on Tuesday evening whilst there was no queue as the perfect time to visit. I was with a colleague who is originally from China so pressure was on that it was going to be good? I let my colleague pick the menu and we opted for a large selection of dishes to share including their famous roast dish and their beef in clay pot from the authentic dishes menu and I chose the lettuce and chicken mince dish which was really refreshing, the food came out as it was made and you could tell how fresh it was and very hot and extremely tasty and not salty. We had the sizzling steak dish which was lovely, all in all very impressed and will definitely return. It’s informal dining, pleasant service and efficient and excellent tasty food. The day after I didn’t have that salty mouth feel that you often get from Chinese restaurants, highly recommend and worth the hype.
Not worth the queue.
Went here expecting good things. Waited in queue outside for 50 minutes. During the wait was told there was no bbq meats which is what we really wanted. Decided to stay and ordered 4 different starters and mains. The food was mediocre at best, the place was not clean (rushing customers in and out) so no time to properly clean between them. Felt like eating in a school canteen and not what I expected. Only went here after seeing queue whilst phocue previously and wish I had gone back to phocue. Portions small and so would say expensive for what you get, £7.20 for 2 portions of fried rice which was no bigger than a cereal bowl between 4. Prawn crackers stored on floor under food collection area. Not what I expected, will not be returning.
Good Chinese restaurant
We came to this place while walking through China Town. The menu is very extensive and we chose to try rice and noodles, both of which were excellent. The value for money was also good as the portions were definitely generous. Recommended restaurant if you want to try something in line with the area you are visiting.
Great quality Cantonese food
Amazing three roast plate - the char siu was some of the best I’ve ever had, as was the roast duck. The only downside was that the portion size wasn’t the most generous but the quality made up for it. Also ordered some crispy chilli beef and a couple of other dishes which were all good.
Wanna try several time
Wanna try several time but every times having long queue as quite small shop, finally try it when met the opening time, very tasty and reasonable price
Good
After the previous evenings poor French onion soup in another restaurant the hot and sour broth here was spot on. Had main course of prawn in black bean sauce and that was good too with the egg fried rice. Bottle of beer at £4.50 made it quite an expensive meal for one at £31.45 with the now obligatory 10% service charge but i enjoyed it.
Standards have gone right down.
What has happened to this restaurant? Has it changed hands? The food is unrecognisable to previous visits. Duck vermicelli very plain and tasteless. Hot and sour soup was absolutely boiling & nothing in it.Partners seafood crispy noodles very disappointing. Hardly any seafood but full of loads and loads of mange tout and I mean a lot! Obviously it is much cheaper than seafood. We have been going for years and indeed have written really good reviews but we will not be visiting again. Very sad.
Best Chinese Restaurant in Manchester
This restaurant was highly recommended by friends and it definitely lived up to its billing!Fantastic food and excellent friendly service, I can't wait to go back !
Disappointing
This is not the first time here at Happy Season, but this time it was disappointing. The crispy duck was great. The mains were disappointing. The Chicken curry was average, Beef with spring onions & ginger was bland. The egg fried rice was basic & the noodles, again bland. Next time, I think it’s time to change venue.
A popular average restaurant
It’s an old establishment and it seems to be getting more popular. I don’t know why people will queue for average food. Fear of stepping out of the familiar, I guess. Especially when one sees a queue, “it must be good” will naturally come up in people’s head, not necessarily because the food is good. With the influx of new people from HK, there’s more new restaurants springing up in Chinatown, I can name a few that are very good and one in particular, Only Yu, is superb in its authenticity. My mum wouldn’t go anywhere else! Though, Happy Seasons does do a better roasties than other restaurants. I personally will get the roasted meat but won’t wait in a queue (especially when it rains! Are you kidding!) when I know there are other restaurants sell similar and familiar food (the usual crispy duck and pancakes, spring rolls🙄) and are on the par with Happy Seasons, if not better.
Don't let the queue put you off
Thankfully, we got to the restaurant before the queues started. Service was prompt, and the food came quickly. The dishes that we ordered (Chicken Satay, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Chicken and Cashew Nuts, Fish ball soup and Dim Sum) were all good and very filling. Overall an excellent experience.
Good Food, bad attitude (certain staff)
Great food however the attitude of certain staff is unacceptable and poor. I’ve been visiting this place for over 15 years and don’t expect to be ‘forced’ to pay, rather than asking for the bill. Disappointing and certain staff should learn to behave more politely.
Just basic food
We read the reviews about this Restaurant and seemed to be top choice in China town, we were expecting something special. We waited about 20 minutes outside thinking it must be good. We were really disappointed in what we got, the food seemed just frozen, reheated food. The chicken was the worst and the ribs were terrible. This is just basic standard food, nothing special. We ordered a starter between us of spring rolls, seaweeds, ribs and prawn toast. The mains were Prawn in sweet & sour sauce, egg fried rice, Chicken in lemon sauce and some noodles. We paid £68 for this and 2 drinks, the portions are large but the quality is poor. Very overpriced for basic food. We will not be returning I don’t mind paying for decent food but this was not.
You might have to queue but don’t be put off
Surprised that went we arrived at 2.30 we had to queue briefly outside, but it was worth it. This small restaurant was bursting at the seams but service was brisk and efficient and the food came out very quickly. All the starters were clearly home made and not frozen. Chicken wings were huge, as were all the portions. We had the three roasts and two noodle dishes, all were lovely, portions were enormous. The only tiny negative was my squid in the mixed seafood which was very chewy. We’ll definitely be going back
Good portions, always busy
If you do decide to eat here, you may have to wait (but worth it). Goes to show its a great restaurant if there's always a queue. Came with family and friends. Got the Char Siu rice, vegetables and you get good portions! Didn't wait too long for food despite it being very busy. The actual restaurant is quite small and cramped but not a major issue for us. Located in chinatown so easy to get to as well
Craving dim sum and roast meats
I'd normally be off to Glamorous to fulfil this craving, but had heard it's not great at the moment. Looked at Happy Seasons reviews as I'd been told the duck was fabulous, but reviews were mixed. Arrrgh. In the end we chanced it - and glad we did. There were two couples in front of us in the queue, and we got a table within ten minutes. We had chosen what we were going to eat while we were in the queue, so ordered pretty much straightaway. The main courses arrived before the dim sum - which our waitress told us would happen and didn't bother us. First dish to arrive was rice sticks with beef. Omg, the flavour was fabulous and the beef beautifully tender. Winner. We had three roast meats and a portion of egg fried rice (you can get meat on rice but it's cheaper and so we surmised there would be less meat). The duck was meltingly tender and full of flavour, the belly pork really tasty with very crispy skin. The char Sui was pleasant but paled in comparison to the other two, in my opinion. As for the dim sum, we had the won tons, which were enormous, very crisp with a prawn filling, and the classic har gau, which were good. Service was friendly and efficient. We left feeling very Happily Seasoned.
So glad to be back in Happy Seasons!
Return visit after not being in town for ages. Queued to get in, we hit it at 7pm Saturday. Queue moved fairly quickly so glad we waited. Just the best food in china town. Hard to choose from the menu because you just want everything! Ingredients you can tell are fresh, cooked to perfection. Staff a super efficient and friendly. You might think the restaurant looks basic, maybe it is but you’re not there to eat the furniture! We first visited a few years ago, encouraged by the queue outside, quite obviously they have invested in improving the set up as their reputation for good eating has grown. You must try it, you won’t be disappointed!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
