Cafe Blue Downtown Austin Reviews from The Last Year
We went on a Friday night and the dining room was pretty
We went on a Friday night and the dining room was pretty empty yet the host/waiter sat us in the bar section. There was no bartender to be seen and after 20 minutes he came back to tell us the whiskey we picked they did not have. We selected another and 15 minutes later was told they were out of that too. Meanwhile we still had no food as he didn't take our order until 30 minutes in. Once we were told this we asked to cancel our food order and left.
Nice sandwiches
Tucked away behind the convention centre, the menu is very large and has both seafood and more traditional options. Fries were lovely, sandwiches were good too - the cajun chicken in particular was excellent, the cuban was nice but would have benefitted from a few less extras on the roll. Servers friendly.
My first time coming here and the food was delicious! Milan
My first time coming here and the food was delicious! Milan was the sweetest! The person sitting next to me had the po boy and that also looked amazing. The manager Brandon came by to make sure everything came out ok. Attentive staff and everyone was nice. Can't wait to come back!
Had a large party here in the private room (20+ people).
Nothing stood out, positive or negative, about the food or service. Because it was a large party there was a 21% service charge. Fine by me for a large party. Given the 21%, I did not add extra tip. BUT someone on staff took it upon themselves to add another 10% when running the charge. I called the restaurant to alert them. They were gracious enough to offer a refund. But buyer beware...check your bill and make sure you close out all tip and total fields on the merchant copy!
Had the chilean sea bass Cajun style.
GREAT!!!! Also had a Mexican martini that is not on the menu! Wow!!! Wish I lived here! I would be here probably twice a week!!!! Service is great! Please people come here! I want this place here next time I come to Austin

After being unable to secure reservations at several of our chosen restaurants we went here for its proximity and seafood selections on a Friday night around 6. The restaurant was eerily empty and quiet. We were seated at a large booth in the back after passing up on a high top in the bar area. Pleasantly surprised was the outcome! Started with shrimp cocktail that was cold and complimented by a nice cocktail sauce. Had the scallops for dinner with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. Every aspect of the meal (down to the sauce) was fabulous! My companion had salmon and she too enjoyed her food. Service was average, but we left satiated and recommended the restaurant to someone the next day.

Recently tried this restaurant for the first time super cute and quiet we had a few problems with our margaritas but besides that the food was fantastic I tried the Maine Lobster Roll I wish the filling on the actual roll wasn't as cold but on the bright side I really loved the fries!
Enjoyed lunch at Cafe Blue on Tuesday.
We were served by a bartender who was kind but less attentive than we needed. Service was slow and glasses were empty. We had a hard time paying because we couldn't find our waitress. The food is good. I had the shrimp poboy. The shrimp was hand breaded and fresh. However, the bread (which was of high quality) was put on the griddle with what tasted like hamburger grease. I could not eat it. It was the wrong flavor profile for shrimp. Great location and atmosphere. Great ingredients. Poor execution in the kitchen and service. Lots of potential.
For the price, the food quality is really bad.
Was looking forward to going to Cafe Blue, but was very disappointed with the meat. Ordered the NY strip and it was like chewing rubber. The kitchen made me another strip, but unfortunately it was very chewing as well. Knowing that it wasn't the way they were cooking it, but rather the meat quality, I asked if it could just be removed from my bill. The waiter insisted that it was just the NY strip that is possibly tougher and that he ensures that the ribeye would be tender. They packaged me a ribeye to go, with sides and I regret to say that it was just as tough to chew. For almost $50 per plate, I would expect a higher quality of meat. Also, the potatoes were hard and the to-go box was soo cheap that the box was soggy by the time we got home. VERY DISAPPOINTED AND DO NO RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!
Excellent meal
Excellent food. Four different meals ordered and all of them were great (beef medallions, shrimp, two different fish dishes) and two desserts (key lime pie and chocolate molten cake). Yummy
This place was completely dead.
Like DEAD. The host was also the waiter, and also the bartender--give the kid a raise. He was actually the best thing about this place. Broke down the menu and was very clear and confident on every plate on the menu. Kudos to him for that, so here's the first star. The Food, I mean look at my pictures. They weren't great. The Brussels sprouts I had alongside my stuffed shrimp were fried to a crisp. No nutritional value was left from these poor guys and the shrimp were just under cooked. The pasta wasn't terrible but with nobody else in the building, you'd think it would at least be warm. Oh and had the oysters as well, very fresh but is that the restaurant or the supply chain. I'll give them kudos for this hence the two stars. Overall, just not worth the time and money to dine here. There's so many other better seafood places here.

To have some a prime location in downtown Austin, I was a bit disappointed with my experience when I dined for #Afrotech23. The best part of my experience was the mussels. 10 out of 10. The soup and savory with a hint of sweetness. Plenty of mussels too. The stuffed shrimp meal lacked seasoning - don't be afraid of old bay. Mashed potatoes needed some salt and garlic powder.
Equally Exceptional Service & High Quality Food
If you have not been to Café Blue Austin you are missing out. You simply MUST go! I walked in about 530pm, after a very long day. I sat at the bar and was greeted by Milan (bartender), who was simply amazing. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and made exceptional recommendations. I ordered the Grilled Redfish (Oscar Style) with vegetables as my side and a slice of keylime pie. While waiting for my food, I met the Manager. I hate I cannot remember her name. She came over and apologized that it was taking a little long to get my order. She insisted on giving me the slice of keylime pie (unsolicited) as an apology. Even after insisting that I was okay and that I expected the wait time for food made to order. She simply was not having it. I graciously accepted and thanked her. Also, Café Blue gives 25% Service Men & Women discount. This is the only restaurant in downtown Austin that I know of who gives such a huge discount to military/veteran personnel. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I was so impressed with the exceptional service that I left Milan an amazing time and I purchased six dinner gift cards for friends who I wanted to have this experience. When I returned to my hotel room, I began eating the food. Honestly, I literally teared up because it was so damn good! I bit my lip but I did not care. Oh my goodness how delicious! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND all seafood lovers experience this exceptional service and high quality food at Café Blue (Austin). Salute to the chef and team for your attention to detail. Thank you and I'll definitely be back to DINE in this time.
Mahi Mahi was Perfect Perfect!
Cafe Blue was awesome. I don't think anyone in our very large business group of about 20 had a single complaint. I had the Mahi Mahi, and it was the best I've ever eaten. The mashed potatoes were delectable as well. I'm not big on spinach so I'm not sure about it. The drinks were great and the service was quick and took great care of us. They're located right across the street from the Austin Convention Center so we just walked across the street for dinner. The area felt very safe.
Spectacular Spectacular!
Milan is such an excellent and professional waitress and Steve a great host as well. Both of us had the clam chowder and it remains as mouth-watering as when we were enjoying it! Also, the collection of oysters are diverse and Steve certainly knows how to match to one's taste. The restaurant is bright, inviting, friendly, and matched by the incredible staff. We've been to another nearby fish restaurant that cannot compare to the staff, service, selection, and ambience of Cafe Blue!
