BON PAIN BON VIN Annecy Reviews from The Last Year
Stay away- Most horrible, arrogant , rude and intimidating male waiter/ manager - stay away
I went for dinner with my friend a few days ago and had probably the worst service I have ever experienced , ever. The male waiter ( seems like he was the head waiter/ manager) was incredibly, incredibly rude to us , to the tables around us- almost to the point of intimidation. I do not write this lightly as I understand the impact a bad review can make on small businesses . However to those investing money and time in this joint- a head must roll if you want this to be a success . He clearly cannot cope with the pressure of a busy service. Never have I experienced such arrogance not just towards us but the tables around us too. Shocking . Lovely food- compliments to the chef. And lovely female waitresses too. Someone needs to have strong words with that chap as he should not have a client facing role. A VERY unpleasant evening. If you walk by and he is on duty ( short brown curly hair )- I would suggest - keep walking .
We had a horrible time
An awful experience. We had to experience not just arrogant, but rude and in my view bullying behaviour from who appeared to be the head water. This presented itself most horribly when a pleasant couple who had waited some time for their food questioned the waiter - he basically said if you don’t like it you can leave. They looked shocked. He then proceeded to remove their plates - not allowing them to eat . He told them their drinks were free. This was at past 9pm - leaving a holidaying couple to find a restaurant again. It was shocking. When confronted the water said well we have enough to do. We have served over 140 people! Other instances such as asking for help with the menu resulted in him saying I’m too busy and will do other things before answering you. He then went to polish a glass or two. Clearly displaying some sort of power! Again, this horrible attitude continued when pouring the wine and asking who would tase. I said my wife and he said she was too SLOW! Not that the pouring was any good. When ordering a separate glass, a 2/3 serving was given - the bottle ran out and he didn’t even bother adding from a new one. In my opinion to be avoided. We left feeling we had experienced something very unpleasant
Not welcoming to Americans at all - won’t recommend
This place does not like Americans. We simply did not have a good experience here - I had this restaurant bookmarked to come after reading some good reviews. However, when we walked in we were completely brushed off and told to wait a min for a table. We waited and weren’t addressed and then they asked us at the bar what we wanted to drink and we said water and the bartender looked annoyed and didn’t even give us water. Once we got seated we still didn’t get water or bread whereas everyone around us was addressed. When we asked if they had an English menu the server told us to look online which we couldn’t find unless we put it through google translate. The server still never came over with water or anything and after 15 mins we left. Honestly go somewhere else if you are vacationing
Best restaurant in Annecy.
Lovely authentically French restaurant in Annecy. Our favourite restaurant of a 7 night stay. A really well run restaurant with lovely staff, fabulous food and great wine. Sadly only discovered towards the end of our week we only had time to return once.
Patience will be rewarded
First night in Annecy and we were looking for a place for dinner. BPBV was busy so through it might be good. No waiters in sight and when we found them they were quite nonchalant. Eventually got a menu but all in French and no English translation. Waiters walking past but difficult to get their attention. However I’m glad that we didn’t do what other reviewers did and leave when the service might not have met expectations from “back home”. A waiter later came and sat with us and we asked for suggestions. We got the pea casserole, leek salad, cheese (essentially fondue) and coq au vin. Food was great. Probably the best I’ve had over the past 4 weeks of traveling Spain and France. Leek, cheese and chicken, really amazing. Locals are going to always get better service than visitors, as locals will be here next week and you won’t. Chill, and enjoy the atmosphere and great food. I will eat out 2 nights in Annecy and both times will be BPBV. I’m going back tonight.
Don’t go here. Absolutely horrible
The worst experience, and I would never recommend it to anyone horrible, waiting staff. They essentially gave us five entrées and wish we ordered for but didn’t know that the fifth plate was an extra portion. They still charge us an extra €21. And we’re very unkind and said, since we ate it, we have to pay for it. Never will recommend it to anybody don’t go here feeling very taken advantage of as an American. Waited for 20 minutes even pay the bill, then get stuff like that. AWFUL.
Horrible place
very poor service. There were only two waiters who could barely move. We ordered pork -- it's impossible to eat, real rubber! The lamb was also so-so. The dessert was terrible too. If you are going to Annecy, do not waste time passing by this restaurant
Great if you’re a local
Popped in on an off chance whilst we were visiting Annecy. Place looks so welcoming and inviting from the outside. Once in, no acknowledgement even after several attempts to make ourselves known to the staff who made eye contact many times. After standing at the end of the bar like a couple of lemons for a couple of minutes, we took a seat at a table but were then told we couldn’t sit there and ushered over to a couple of stools opposite the bar. Handed a menu, no explanation regarding the format of the menu, suggestions etc …. Again ignored for a long time until I asked could we order a drink. We had a quick glass of wine and left, we didn’t eat. I don’t think we even managed to get a thank you after we paid. Barman too busy talking to regulars to care. Shame
Delicious
Super charming little place, very friendly staff and amazing food and vine. Located in the heart of old Annecy near to the canal and castle 🥓🥘🥖🧀🍷
good bread good wine!
We loved our evening here, super french - rich tasty food with a great atmosphere. Bill was reasonable, though some plates are quite small, which is fine as they were rich and delicious! Their menu is 100% in French so if you don't speak the language pull out the google translate app like we did! We had 7 plates between the 2 of us and every one was amazing. They (like a lot of French places) provide you with some complimentary bread - bon pain. And the wines are perfect - bon vin. Great hospitality, good atmosphere, live music on weekends. Quite small inside, and they don't take reservations! If you're visiting Annecy it's a strong recommendation.
Not an extraordinary experience
We were welcomed in a rather expeditious manner. The establishments have too many customers so 0 care. Bad service and we ate cold. Not much is missing to go from top to flop. For our part, we will not recommend this establishment.
Alas, it's not what it used to be...
What to say ?? Coming several times we always had a good time, but now you won't see us anymore! Arriving at 10 p.m. for a drink, we quickly understood that there would be no service... we wait in front of the bar, not even a hello, the bartender serves himself a quiet lemoncello, and we wait, wait, wait finally takes the order finally we thought and he leaves the guy and again we wait again so.... Be honest when your customers arrive and clearly tell them that you no longer want to serve. And change your hours (Closing 1 hour) I wonder what you do if customers arrive later.
Cosy and authentic restaurant with great wine and small plates
BPBV is a cosy French restaurant serving delicious small plates. The service is friendly, the wine good, and the food is authentic. We arrived slightly before the kitchen opened (kitchen opens 7pm) so had some wine to start. The food was great and arrived promptly. They recommend 2-3 dishes per person which seems about right. The beef bourguignon was exquisite, as was the mash potato. I’d also recommend the small raclette dish too (can’t remember its name!) The desserts were so-so but authentic at the very least. Pricing reasonable too, which makes all the difference. I’d recommend arriving any time from 7pm as it begins getting quite busy around 7:30/8pm, and with such a small venue you may end up sat at the bar if there are no tables left.
An excellent address
We went there by chance and were delighted. It's delicious, very well cooked homemade dishes. Excellent welcome. Original formula: you choose three small plates per person, all for 20 euros. I have a very good appetite and it is more than enough. And together it allows you to taste lots of different dishes. A special mention for the leek vinaigrettes which are simply incredible.
It's worth the detour !
Came by chance, restaurant which does not take reservations. We are very well received! Superb decoration, what a pleasure to eat with checkered napkins! Awesome server! Super cool, very funny, close to the customers, what a joy! A 20€ formula with the choice of 3 dishes on the menu (shared dish type). Served on small plates, it's comforting, made with love, you smell butter and cream and there's nothing better! The true definition of a good restaurant with a small but certain menu! Some people should take inspiration. Congratulations to you !
Not to be missed
Thank you, very pleasant time with friends. Very good small dishes. As for dessert...to do again Warm, smiling waiter
Lovely wine bar with excellent food, authentically warm ambiance and friendly, genuine warmth.
This brilliant French wine bar has unbeatable ambiance, warm and genuine service from the charismatic barman (Aurelian), combined with Michelin star food at neighbourhood pub prices. We came back twice because it was so fun and unforgettable.
Excellent value
We ate here for lunch on consecutive days. Excellent regional food all well served. No bookings taken so if you are wanting lunch arrive when it opens. Nothing too much trouble
