Delicious food / great service - but don’t like being charged 2.20 £ just to sit down… makes you not want to go back
Final night in London - visiting from Canada we wanted to have romantic Italian dinner so we booked Zafferano’s. We ordered the burrata to start it was delicious! Our mains were lobster linguine and the ravioli which was so great! I ordered a mocktail and they went out of their way to get the ingredients at the store which was so nice. I’m giving a 3 because as we got the dessert menu it said you are automatically charged 2.20 £ for sitting down. That is just ridiculous, in Canadian dollars that’s 8$ just to have a seat at a table, I think customers should know right away when booking they are charged instantly per seat. This makes us not want to return to any restaurant that does this.
Be the first to ReplyOver-priced and underwhelming
The prices are typical of this area…eye-watering. Portions are small. The best dish was vitello tonnato but almost £20 for a small starter is an outrageous price. Unfortunately, the service was equally disappointing with smarmy managers and disinterested and uncharming waiting staff. Requests for extra cutlery were unfulfilled, indications that we were ready to order equally ignored. Coats were taken but staff were supremely that a scarf was dragging on the floor - observed but, again, ignored. No-one even bothered to say goodbye. Quite awful.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Italian Food in Kensington
Dinner here for our daughter's birthday. Service was impeccable. White truffles - very fresh - were featured on many of the specials and we had several dishes with them. Food overall was excellent. Extensive wine list to pick from. Well worth a visit. Easy to reach from the Kensington tube stop and a short walk.

The service is very good, food was very tasty but the portions too small for Itallian food. I had the Spaghetti con vongole and it was amazing.

Menu did not have the wow factor for the price! Service was not great, ordered drinks, water came but nothing else for ages, had to remind staff to produce drinks. Our wine was in a bucket with another tables wine. The waiter poured the other tables wine into our glasses, ie topped up with a different wine! We then watched the waiter top up the other table with their wine of which there was very little left! It made us laugh if nothing else! The table was never cleared properly! Inexperienced waiting staff not being watched!
Be the first to ReplyGood but expensive
Had lunch yesterday,. Have eaten here a long time ago and thought it ok then. Food was good but wine extremely expensive , dessert really good. Would definitely return but I'm sure there are better value places but maybe not in that area

The food was nice enough, around the standard of a decent high street Italian restaurant. But the issue is, they're charging like it has a michelin star or two and it just isn't that good. Take a look at the menu - For example, Lobster linguini @ £38 (had) and a small fillet steak (didn't have) at @ £56 is just wrong. They even have a cover charge (very small print on the menu). Ambience was a little lacking and the service was friendly, but a little amateurish (at this price point) - Some mistakes in order made, waiter hanging around wanting to clear plates, asking multiple times for the bill etc. If price had been 50 or 60% of what we paid then it would probably deserve 5*. Last time I went was about 15 years ago and I remember it being excellent. I suspect I won't remember what I had this time around within a couple of weeks, so will probably leave it for a similar time before i drop in again.

Exceptional service, delicious food, varied menu and fabulous desserts: equal an extraordinary dining experience! The octopus tentacle was amazing, pasta with nduja sausage was al dente and spicy! Appetizers were plentiful and shared. Desserts - aahhh! The staff catered to us with impeccable service. We highly recommend Zafferano’s in London.

Have been a few times in the last couple of years and I liked it. Particularly truffles dishes. Good location, good service.

Always paying a visit to this place when in London. Big table with 11 people. Starters and main courses of a very good level, as always, but with big big minus. The Saffron risotto was so damn hard ( not properly cooked) that we ate 3/4 of it only because we were starving. Made remarks to the maitre but he didn’t seem to be too impressed. Also wine wasn’t the best, it appeared to be a little “gone”. Very good desserts and, considering the final bill (not certainly inexpensive) not even a nod to a possible “house digestif”. This time I wasn’t convinced.

The staff made us feel extremely welcome and offered their suggestions for food which was spot on. Really enjoyed the evening!

Once upon a time when it was indeed the Zafferano! Dear John De Stefano, what happened to your restaurant? Mamma mia!!! They don’t even have an Italian Chef anymore, the food is ordinary, like any barely ok(ish) Italian Restaurant but the prices are top £££, as if they still have a Michelin star! Gone those days. The Manager is AWOL

Very nice ambiance! Tables are a nice distance apart from one another and relatively quiet which made for a relaxing and enjoyable dinner. Service was stellar! I ordered a lobster pasta dish as a starter and didn’t realize it was a tomato based sauce which for me doesn’t work with lobster for me. The sauce simply overpowered the lobster. I had the monkfish for my main and it was very tasty and well prepared. Enjoyed the sauce served with it. My wife ordered the agnolotti with consomme which was very good. She ordered the Guinea Fowl for her entree which was ok, a bit disappointing for her. Nice and deep wine list. Recommend.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Restaurant for Risotto in the Heart of affluent London
Decided to have a meal at this Restuarant while shopping on Oxford street recently and I must say, it was a real treat. Got to the resturant a few minutes before closing but the host allowed me in and a waiter immediately took my order and was attendee to. The bread was amazing and the bread sticks were the best I have eaten in a while. The lobster risotto was yummy. Definitely a must visit when in London and I want to have a amazing risotto. You won’t be disappointed.

I’ve been here a few times lately (very quiet this January) and it never disappoints. Great food and wine, comfortable chairs and very charming staff. It is expensive but the quality matches the price.
Be the first to ReplyEXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED
Visited this restaurant for a very special occasion with friends. Had told them how wonderful this restaurant was and am sad to say I was extremely embarrassed that this was not the case. I chose the Burrata with artichokes, the Burrata was ice cold and I had to hunt for the artichokes and then when I did find them they were rock hard. The main course of linguine with lobster, again it was a case of hunting for the lobster. The dish was mainly tasteless and swimming in olive oil - way too much and finally the gelato - ok it was vanilla but unfortunately half had already melted before it reached me. The service was also disappointing with our waiter being rude and superior. Throwing the plates on the table as he was rushing around so much and spilling the salad on the tablecloth. We could hear the shouting from the kitchen and our guests commented that there seemed to be an atmosphere in the restaurant. We will not be going back.

Everything from the food to the service is totally top notch. I highly recommend the risotto and the venison ragu.
Be the first to ReplyWhere’s the Lobster Hiding
Well I have always wanted to try this restaurant, however lobster linguine was disappointing and over priced. Spaghetti Carbonara had a bitter aftertaste , I think they must use packaged egg yolks not fresh eggs. The house Sauvignon at £24 a glass was eye watering considering a bottle of Gavi at £58.00 seemed reasonable. Mains just ok , my dessert of panettone with Zabaglione was a pretty small portion . Everyone said the Cherry cheesecake was delicious. At a total cost of £505.00 for 5 people I thought was expensive for what could only be considered average Italian food . Service was good and we weren’t rushed. Would I return ? No. Will be sticking to Scallini
Be the first to ReplyGlad to have given it a second chance.
A restaurant that I didn’t favour too much in the past. Decided to give it another try and I am glad I did. The food was top quality and the service was hospitable and entertaining. It will become a go to restaurant for me from now on.
Be the first to ReplyOur New Favorite London Italian Restaurant
After reading reviews on trip advisor we decided to try Zefferano and we are so happy we did. The food is outstanding, the wine list is one of the best of Italian vintages. The waitstaff are the most helpful and this is from the moment you step into the beautiful space. They have outside dining as well. Everything is delicious and we ended up returning there for our last night of our vacation.
The owner manager was charming and made us feel totally at home.
Top class Italian
They serve top class traditional Italian food in a top class venue. There is an excellent mix of the classic dishes most people would recognise as well as some of the more rarely found dishes.
There was seating outdoors in a cosy pavement extension but we decided to eat indoors, which is very classy.
The food was excellent. I started with the char-grilled octopus and then went on to spaghetti with clams and bottarga. Both dishes were perfectly cooked, the octopus soft and the spaghetti with proper texture.
Service is extremely good, with plenty of waiting staff around.
Lovely lunch
Went back to Zafferano after a long time, the food was nice but nothing special this time. The tuna tartar was tasteless, my fish was fine but the skin got caught in the pan it looked like. My husbands Ragu and veal escalope was exceptional! The rest of our party seem to really enjoy their food. The service was good, however the waiter was a bit previous taking thing of our table when we hadn’t finished.

We really enjoyed our little evening here. I would love to return with guests for the lovely service and charming setting. Do order the tiramisu! You will not be disappointed.
