Location: A very small, narrow storefront clad with wood and a single small window that does not attract much attention. Parking: Street parking or a Green P across the street. Reservations: A must have because there is only room for maybe 8 guests at two 3 hour dinner sittings. Service: Quiet and professional. They also answer specific questions and make drink recommendations. Inside: An L shaped counter so that guests can see and interact with the chef while he does some preparation. The kitchen is small and open at the very back reflecting the desire to show guests everything. Kitchen staff was all young women who very professionally always had all the dishes prepared on time for the next course. Food: A seasonal menu that changes based on the chefs inspiration. Ingredients are also flown in, and everything seems very high quality. The meal is a multi course, small plate, affair that focuses on a variety of tastes, texture and ingredients apart from sushi. Atmosphere: It can seem intimidating because it is somewhat quiet and the chef looks serious, but he is very friendly and willing to engage in questions and conversation. What else. The chef/owner says the name is shortened from the Japanese word for elegant, so it’s at least partly elegant. Overall. A good experience of the art of Japanese cuisine other than sushi. Worth a try (and not just because it has a Michelin star).
