An intimate multi course meal.
Location: A very small, narrow storefront clad with wood and a single small window that does not attract much attention. Parking: Street parking or a Green P across the street. Reservations: A must have because there is only room for maybe 8 guests at two 3 hour dinner sittings. Service: Quiet and professional. They also answer specific questions and make drink recommendations. Inside: An L shaped counter so that guests can see and interact with the chef while he does some preparation. The kitchen is small and open at the very back reflecting the desire to show guests everything. Kitchen staff was all young women who very professionally always had all the dishes prepared on time for the next course. Food: A seasonal menu that changes based on the chefs inspiration. Ingredients are also flown in, and everything seems very high quality. The meal is a multi course, small plate, affair that focuses on a variety of tastes, texture and ingredients apart from sushi. Atmosphere: It can seem intimidating because it is somewhat quiet and the chef looks serious, but he is very friendly and willing to engage in questions and conversation. What else. The chef/owner says the name is shortened from the Japanese word for elegant, so itโs at least partly elegant. Overall. A good experience of the art of Japanese cuisine other than sushi. Worth a try (and not just because it has a Michelin star).

The best Japanese sushi experience ever had. This restaurant is a real pleasure with its menu; each dish a positive discovery. Service high quality. This is a real Michelin star place in Toronto.
Be the first to ReplySo so good
We came here as a birthday celebration as two of us are close together. We did the 9 course kaiseki menu and was it ever worth it! I canโt say which item was my favourite because they were all so good itโs hard to pick just one. I also did the saki pairing, it added a nice addition to the menu. The staff are so friendly and we sat at the counter to get the experience of watching the food getting made. Chef Izutsu is very friendly and personable and gave us a description of the various dishes we were trying. I wanted to go back as soon as we left. Highly recommend this restaurant to get a true Japanese kaiseki experience.
Be the first to ReplyGood but don't bother with $75 menu
We decided to check out Yukashi one evening, having read all the great reviews. We have been to Sushi Kaji and many other Japanese restaurants. We did not have the $150 menu since we could not go at the set times (5 p.m. or 8 p.m.) so we had the $75 menu. While the food was beautifully presented and very tasty, there was not a single piece of sashimi or sushi, which was what I craved that night. Although I am a slim, small person, I was still a bit hungry after dinner. If not for the chef's complimentary "surprise" dish, I would have been even hungrier. If you have time the full $150 kaiseki menu, go for it! But don't bother ordering the $75 dinner if you want raw fish. There are better options in the city for that price.
Be the first to ReplyA very fun and enjoyable experience
We had a blast hanging out at the bar. There was laughter and a sense of community amongst the diners thanks to our gracious host, Chef Izutsu. We had the full nine courses with sake pairing. The meal was invigorating to all the senses. Quality ingredients, mostly from Chef Izutsu's village, are imported from Japan. Yuzu, fresh wasabi, rare radishes and melon, fish, and A5 Wagyu are amongst some of the highlights. If it was not for everything else, the ambiance, chill demeanor of the chef, the richness of ingredients, and the skill at which they were prepared, I would have awarded Yukashi four-stars. During the preparation of the Wagyu and foie gras, the smoke alarm went off. They said it happens every time. It was extremely loud. At $150/pp without pairing, tax and tip, I would expect they figure out a solution to this problem. Also, the same three or four instrumental songs played over and over for hours. Otherwise, a perfect meal.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding Omakase
Yukashi is a small uncomplicated omakase place on Mount Pleasant south of Eglinton. We had the nine course menu which was absolutely delicious from start to finish. We sat at the counter and watched the chefs prepare each dish carefully and perfectly. My favourites included a wagyu beef, foie gras and uni combination, smoked yellow tail, the otoro and ....well I enjoyed every dish very much. This restaurant is a great Japanese dining experience for anyone who appreciates fine Japanese cuisine. The chef has impeccable credentials which are detailed on the web site. Drinks are green tea or sake, including pairings. I suggest sitting at the counter to watch the chefs working. Reservations are a must. Definitely will return soon.
