Wow. A hidden gem in the Triangle that offers a truly unique and authentic Japanese experience, definitely worth trying out once! But be prepared to spend ~$200 per person.Yamazushi specializes in traditional kaiseki dinners. For those who are unfamiliar (as I was prior to dining here), kaiseki is a term for a multi-course dining experience (different from omakase in that the dishes are not exclusively nigiri) that embodies hospitality in its truest form. It was evident that the owner and chef were striving for excellence and attention to detail with every one of the eight courses. Contact months in advance to get a table reservation - seats are very limited each night. Before I talk about the culinary aspect of the night, I want to make note of the fact that, from the outside, Yamazushi is very unassuming and almost easy to miss. Once you enter, however, you are transformed into what feels like a different world. Remove your shoes and put on the slippers provided. Let the very polite waitresses (who are dressed in gorgeous kimonos) lead you to your table, and notice the beautiful tapestries and artistic touches all around the restaurant. The dishware - oh my goodness. This is not something that normally makes it into my Yelp reviews, but I just about wanted to purchase every single plate and glass that was set in front of us. All unique, hand crafted, and stunning (imported from Japan). Photography isn't really encouraged here so I didn't take many photos - sorry about that!Onto the food - each of the eight courses was so thoughtfully crafted. The food ranged from sashimi to eggplant to conch to seafood hotpot - you really have to see and taste it all for yourself, since words can't do the descriptions justice. I was blown away by the presentation of it all, but I think the flavors of some parts did not quite meet the level of presentation, hence me giving 4 stars instead of 5. Still, we were pleased with every course.I highly recommend asking for sake recommendations too - we ordered 2 types and were wowed by the smoothness and sweetness of both. You can also opt in to the sake pairing for an extra $48/head.Very pricey, but well worth a visit. Don't miss out on this incredible kaiseki dining experience! Thank you to everyone at Yamazushi for a truly unforgettable evening!
