My experience at Yamato was extremely disappointing and
My experience at Yamato was extremely disappointing and unpleasant. The servers were incredibly rude and lacked basic courtesy. During our meal, one server approached our table multiple times, demanding payment while we were still eating. Not only was this behavior disruptive and disrespectful, but it also made us feel rushed and uncomfortable. The rude and pushy behavior of the servers overshadowed any positive aspects of the dining experience and left me with a negative impression of the restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyWorst experience I have had in all of my restaurant
Worst experience I have had in all of my restaurant experiences in the city. Honestly, we were rushed upon entering being told there was 50 minutes until last call (plenty of time to order food). After we ordered the papers were ripped from our hands and as the food came out it was basically thrown onto the table. After eating we were given the check which had an automatic gratuity on it which is typical for large parties of 6 or more however, we were not. When asked why or to see the menu in where this automatic gratuity policy was disclosed they wouldn't show me and just kept telling me it was because we are a large party. I then requested for the gratuity to be removed since no explanation was being given and no policy was displayed - the check was thrown in our face and we were given an attitude, so unprofessional and if you want sushi Maki Maki is worth the drive because we will not be coming back here. such an unpleasant end to the night.

very poor service and attitude, they asked us to wait 20 min !!!! to have a table for 2 people, and the excuse is the staff dont have time to clean only 1 table !!!!! although there is a lot of clean empty tables as shown in the picture and was not even reserved!. The food was okay. Its the first and last time to be there.

The Internet seems to have a very positive opinion about Yamato. After walking by and having a mental bookmark for over a decade, it was finally time to stop in. I blame Reddit - plus I had a nearby interview that got out just as lunch was starting. Off the bat: $24.50 for AYCE sushi lunch is a great deal, especially in downtown Boston. However, $25 can get you all sorts of delicious lunches, and I'm not sure Yamato has gone in my Rolodex of places to revisit. I do think it is worth a second chance though... only maybe for dinner. I had the opportunity to try: - Crab Rangoons - Brighton Maki - Volcano Maki - Salmon & Tuna Sushi - Salmon Skin Hand Roll The Crab Rangoons were alright. The filling was A-OK, however the fried wonton was on the thicker and chewier side for my taste. The Brighton Maki was a bit unsure. Rather than having a spicy tuna filling, in this case it was the exterior topping! Inside was avocado and white fish. Flavor-wise, this role wasn't much to write home about. I found the pieces a little inconsistent as well (more or less spicy tuna topping, smaller or larger bit of white fish, etc). Texture-wise, the large amount of spicy tuna, rice, and avocado led to a mouthfeel that hid the white fish. Overall though, pretty average: I'm glad I ordered it, but not necessarily something I'd order on future visits. Something I would skip on future visits is is the Volcano Maki. This one contained...cheese? I'm not sure, but it was a simple spicy tuna maki topped with a seemingly cheese-bound "torched scallop, tobiko, scallion, crab meat and mushroom mixture." Points for creativity, however seems like something I would make when trying to empty my fridge pre-vacation. It did not work here in my opinion. The salmon skin hand roll was very good. This one had balanced textures and ingredients, and allowed the quality of the rice to shine. While I deviation from my usual eel hand roll, this is something I would happily order again (though maybe in the eel variety). Also a favorite were the salmon and tuna sushi (nigiri, I suppose?). The simplicity is what works here. High quality rice and fresh fish, plus a little soy sauce makes for a winning combination. Finally, the service was friendly and attentive, no complaints there. The location was generally pleasant, but felt a little musty, and the mirrors could use a good wipe down. Thus, while the rice and fish are fresh and tasty, the execution could use some work overall. As such, I have the agree with Yelp's 3-star average, and disagree with those friends and Redditors who extol Yamato's virtues.

Wait times are terrible, you wait forever to order and you wait forever to even get your food. And if you're gonna order another round expect another 30 minutes, small portion, and just buffet style atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely filthy.
Windows, inside mirrors, doors and they even provide you stained menus. Cannot recommend due to the dirtiness we experienced. Food ok, but could not get over the environment.
Be the first to ReplyWaited 50 minutes for 12 pieces of sashimi and 3 hand rolls.
Extremely understaffed. Service also VERY poor, waiter actively avoided us when we were calling them over and pretended not to see us. Sashimi pieces were tiny. Also food quality is not good too.

the waitress forced me to tip more than i wanted to after she did not check on our table at all.
Be the first to Replyif you value your food quality even a little bit, don't go.
It's disgusting. They serve food from left overs of the other table. The seafood yaki noodle they serve us had a used chopsticks stick inside the dishes before they serve it to us. And any of their raw sushi is not FRESH. It's like dry aged
Be the first to ReplyStaff chased us for more TIP.
Unbelievable. Yelled at us when we said TIP is not something you impose. It's up to diner how much we want to give. Staff said minimum 25% we said that's what you print as "recommended"
Be the first to ReplyFood was adequate, but the service was just awful.
We went to AYCE lunch, and ordered several items, two of which--including a main dish--were never brought, despite asking the waitress multiple times. After an hour, we had to leave. When we asked for a discount, as we didn't get all the food we ordered, the staff refused. Manger was apparently not available to speak with. Waitress said the money would come out of her own pocket. This restaurant experience is the first time I've intentionally not left a tip, the service was so bad. Ambiance kind of crappy, too, especially if you need to use the restrooms. Those are down a windy hallway, with broken linoleum. First and last time I'll ever go to this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place for all you can eat sushi.
service was spot on with the waiters coming by every 10-15 minutes. recommend the spicy salmon and tuna. very cute little place would come again
Be the first to ReplyWas really busy on the weekend, but we made a res.
It takes a long time for the sushi to come out, but also the sushi wasn't that good. Especially the plain maki rolls, for example like salmon maki or tuna maki, I thought they were not great quality. But the special rolls were made well and tasted good. It's also disappointing there's no ayce sashimi during lunch, and some of the special rolls cost extra.

Food was two-star, maybe, but the service was definitely poor. I like salmon skin hand rolls, but here the salmon skin was the same sort of mush that one can get and even tolerate in spicy tuna or spicy salmon.
Be the first to ReplyQuite possibly one of the worst sushi experiences I've ever
Quite possibly one of the worst sushi experiences I've ever had. Ordered the spicy crispy roll and it had zero flavor and didn't taste fresh at all. Not to mention, their miso soup had about as much flavor as a bowl of lightly salted water. When I went to get the bill, I asked if I could have my roll taken off the bill. The server refused to do it, even though I told her I wasn't going to eat anymore of it, and I wasn't going to take it home. I accepted the fact that I was going to have to pay for it, but when I didn't leave a tip, the server had the audacity to point out that I didn't leave a tip. I explained that I wasn't leaving a tip for food that I wasn't going to eat, and she told me that was my problem. I told her no it was their problem for having food that didn't taste good and the fact that they wouldn't take it off my bill. Wasted $20 here, will never come back .
Be the first to ReplyDrinks taste off.
Rude staff doesn't let you order full Unlimited menu would not go if you are looking for unlimited. If you're looking for actual sushi why are you even looking here

I recently had the opportunity to dine at a restaurant that offered all-you-can-eat sushi, and I must say that I had a pretty good experience overall. The standout feature of this restaurant was the fresh fish that was used in their sushi. The service was also quite quick, which was appreciated. One thing to note is that customers are charged for any uneaten sushi that they order, so it's important to only order what you can eat. Unfortunately, I was not too impressed with the dessert options available at this restaurant. The fried ice cream was below average and not worth ordering again. However, the Temaki (hand roll sushi) was exceptional, but quite big in size. So, if you are a sushi lover and want to try all types of sushi, I would recommend ordering less of the Temaki. Some of the must-tries at this restaurant include the Shumai, salmon skin, and eel.If you are looking to try everything on the menu, it would be best to visit this restaurant with a larger group. Overall, the restaurant offered good quality sushi with fresh fish and quick service. If you're a fan of sushi and are looking for an all-you-can-eat option, this restaurant is definitely worth a try

Another amazing visit here! Sushi and appetizers was delicious and came out really fast! Our waitress was really nice and was so accommodating. We came during lunch at around 2pm so it was not that busy. For all you can eat sushi for $23.50, this place is a mist try in Boston. It's also in a great location in Back Bay (close to Newbury St and Boston Public Library). The vibes are immaculate. If you are ever craving sushi and are on a budget, this is the plave to go! Definitely coming back!

I was really excited to check out Yamato 2 because I always went to the other location in college. This place didn't disappoint! In fact, I found the interior to be nicer at this location.Yamato is about quantity, not quality. For the price, you really can't argue with the amount of sushi you're getting... just don't expect anything too fancy. Some of my favorites are the caterpillar roll and the dragon roll, but I also like some of the simpler ones like the salmon avocado and the various tuna rolls. My pro tip would be go with a big group and put in more orders as you make your way through the first round. The service is pretty quick and is good about checking in. I've never had an issue with the two hour limit. Come for a fun time with some sushi-loving friends!

Be the first to ReplyWow! This place is delish.
Make sure you come hungry for the all you can eat. They have lots of appetizers and rice/noodles available, but we stuck with the sushi. The sushi was so fresh and the service was wonderful.

Came for lunch and was pretty happy with the selection and quality! It wasn't crowded for weekend lunch which was nice. I do wish they allowed the dessert menu to be included for lunch but otherwise it was great.
Be the first to ReplyWould come to this sushi AYCE spot if I'm really craving
Would come to this sushi AYCE spot if I'm really craving sushi and cannot make it out to the Brighton location since this location is a lot busier, has longer wait times, and is more pricey especially on the weekends!Experience 3.5/5This location's ambiance and dรฉcor is slightly more updated and modern than the Brighton location since it is right in the center of Boston and it is also a newer version of Yamato I in Brighton. You have to go down sets of outdoor steps to get to the front door. Service is okay, and sometimes pretty slow on busy nights. It would often take a while for our food to come out and certain items would be missing as well. Since this location is a bit more cramped and louder, I do not enjoy it as much. Food 3/5Food quality is fine, okay at best. We typically order a bit of each: sashimi (dinner only), nigiri, maki rolls. Though be aware they add a lot of rice to each item to fill you up. Rolls don't have much flavor so I typically have to use more soy sauce or spicy mayo on the side.
Be the first to Replyit's a great place for large groups and hungry people, very
it's a great place for large groups and hungry people, very reasonably priced! however, my only issue is that the rice to fish/vegetables ratio is crazy high. all of the other places i've had do the nigiri normally, the fish covers the entire rice so you definitely get your moneys worth that way. however here, it's a tiny piece of fish with 3x the amount of time which i understand, however i did feel like i had more rice than anything. i would go back but maybe order less nigiri and more rolls

We've been enjoying Sushi there since Yamato II opened and ten years prior we started at the brighton location. They treat you like family when you support them and the sushi freshness and value is unbeatable anywhere. Anyone who complains about either of these restaurants i suggest you go elsewhere pay double to triple and walk away hungry. Yamato chefs produce a great experience and they have a wonderful wait staff. our groups range from 2-24 and after ten years we still go almost every week.
