Top tier service, food, and atmosphere.
Every dish leaves you with nothing else to say but "wow." We had the crab cake, Caesar salad, halibut, filet mignon with frites, and mac. Worth every penny!
Be the first to ReplyThis is a really great restaurant.
It far exceeded the hype. We had the crab cake, spicy shrimp scampi, halibut, roasted chicken and onion rings. All were cooked perfectly and each bite was better than the one before it. House made sourdough was a great touch as well. Our server was Nate and he helped us navigate the menu and made sure our water and wine glasses were always full. A real top notch operation all around. If there was one knock on the restaurant, it was a little on the loud side making it hard to hear the waiter or my wife. But this is not enough to knock a star from the review. It is so great to have a restaurant like this in St Louis.

Oh. My. Goodness. Just incredible from every first sip and bite to every last morsel. Even the leftovers, cold. It was a romantic setting for a late night date with my husband, we received excellent service that was polite and very pleasant, and the food was beyond exceptional.

There's something about a classic steakhouse experience, am I right? Wright's keeps things romantic and intimate with just a dozen or so tables and ultra dim mood setting ambiance. They steaks are to die for, you will not leave hungry.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, great bread, great service! That's what you get
Great food, great bread, great service! That's what you get from a great restaurant! Had the roast beef, loaded with tasty roast beef, did I say loaded! Toasty perfect bread. Also, au jus and horseradish dipping sauce! The roast beef came with house made fries, too many to eat all of them I felt bad leaving them, so yummy! Fries came with house made garlic aioli and ketchup. So much to choose from, dip with this or that or just enjoy the flavor of the perfectly cooked beef, oh my! Tried there in house sour dough, superb!
Be the first to ReplyThis place is special, it's truly an experience.
The service is top notch, they're incredibly attentive and hospitable. They're going to make sure your entire visit from start to finish is perfect. While the food is upscale, the ambiance still has the chill tavern vibe, but classy. All of that said...the food is still the true star, WOW. First off, you definitely won't leave hungry no matter what you get, as the portions are quite large. Plus you get complimentary fresh sourdough bread with the most amazing garlic oil/butter combination I've ever had. The crab cake is unreal. The burgers, steaks, pastas are sooo good. The sides are huge and delicious! Tons of fries with house made garlic aoli, and unbelievable macaroni au gratin. And you really have to get the creme brulee, even if you're normally not a fan, get it, you won't be disappointed. Or if you wanna go wild, get the ice cream sundae, which is massive and over the top in the best way. If you like a cocktail with dinner, the Tavern Paloma is where it's at. I also had the Pink Lady which is a tasty vodka option. Honestly anything you get won't be disappointing. Highly recommend Wrights!
Be the first to ReplyNeed to update again because Wright's Tavern simply does
Need to update again because Wright's Tavern simply does not miss. There is something about that french dip. It has me in a chokehold. I can't help but order it every time. And, every time it gets better--which I did not think was possible. Everybody knows the food at Wright's is great. The macaroni, onion rings, burger, steak, shrimp scampi. Basically, every single menu item. So, I do not want to Belabor that point. I do, however, want to indulge you in the magic that Wright's is beyond their food. Wright's, for me, feels like home. The meticulousness is magnificent. The art work is elegant, yet accessible. The paper and pencils on the tables makes it feel just a bit whimsical, while still feeling elegant. Yet, you feel welcome no matter your background, outfit, status, etc. it just feels like anyone can walk in and be exactly who is supposed to be there. Every server shows genuine interest in serving you. Always willing to chop it up, they are dressed to the nines, but remain beautifully folksy. It's intimate. But, also a place you can take the family. Wright's is an enigma. Artistically balancing upscale with casual, high end with affordable, intimate with friendly, professional with whimsy. Maybe none of this makes sense. I may just be rambling. But, beyond the generous portions of a simplified--yet perfected--traditional steakhouse menu is a cozy space we all can call home, even if just for the evening. St. Louis is blessed to have a spot as special as Wright's. Can't wait to get back for another french dip... hopefully sooner than later!
Be the first to ReplyFor the month of May, my wife and I, along with her cousin
For the month of May, my wife and I, along with her cousin and husband (2 Cousins and their Husbands) make routine date nights every month. This month choice was the husband's choice and we choose Wright's Tavern. This destination is worth checking out for those of you who are looking for a place to cozy up with your spouse/mate. Make sure you make your reservation at least two weeks in advance because when i say they have been busy, that is an understatement. We got a Saturday 10:15 reservation but were thankful someone cancelled at the last minute so we got in around 8:30. When we approached Wright's Tavern that evening I walked right past the entrance, it was reminiscent of a speakeasy because I did not see any signs suggesting we had arrived. Upon entry the hostess was pleasant and quickly seated us. The music was nice, a mixture of lo-fi sounds with a few subtle blends of jazz blended hip hop, this definitely set the tone for the quaint restaurant. We started our evening off with appetizers and cocktails. We order crab cakes, and onion rings (although they are considered a side, many people choose them as an appetizer), they were delicious. The drinks were great, I especially enjoyed my Sazerac, and Old Fashion, both were mixed to perfection, while our wives enjoyed the Dark Daquiri, and the Pink Lady. For dinner, I choose the Halibut (a great choice I may add, and highly recommend) and my wife ate a wedge salad, she wasn't very hungry considering the appetizers were pretty generous. Our cousins choose the chicken and the ribeye of which they both enjoyed. Between the atmosphere, drinks and food we had a wonderful time and would definitely come back again.

For as hard as it is to get a reservation the food didn't blow us out of the water. The service was top notch, the restaurant is quaint and has a nice ambiance to it. We saw the chef standing by the bar most of the evening. My husband and I got a drink each (Martini and the Car & and Old Fashion) both were great! We were served their homemade sourdough which was also great! We ordered the crab cake and it was good but expensive $30 for one, but it was large. He got the burger and I got the pasta. On the burger the onion slices were very overbearing and large. The pasta was good but again nothing special. Big portions! L

We had a reservation tonight at 9, which I was a little hesitant about just because of its proximity to closing time at 10. It wasn't at all weird, service was excellent! We got two old fashioned/pink lady cocktails each (delicious), scampi (to die for), caesar salad (parm was incredible), spicy vodka pasta and the filet with frites. Everything was exceptional, from the service to the ambiance to the incredible food!! Can't wait to return.

I usually won't review a place if they already have really good reviews cuz like what is the point. But this place is so good I felt obligated. Food was amazing. Huge servings which you don't always get at a place like this. Im really tall so I feel like I usually have to choose between good food and not leaving super fully or low quality food, but this places gives ya both. Some things are pricey but for what you get it's a great deal. The service was also great. The vibes are also super cool. Will be back often.
Be the first to ReplyCurrently my favorite restaurant in STL.
The setting is intimate, cozy. Food is absolutely incredible. The french dip is far and away the best french dip I have ever had. There is something special about dining at Wright's from the dimly lit dining room, the friendly, attentive servers, and the incredible food.
Be the first to ReplyLet me just start with this, Wrights Tavern is the best
Let me just start with this, Wrights Tavern is the best restaurant I've ever been to in Saint Louis and I'm always trying something new. We stumbled upon these reservations. The service was impeccable. Like in the movies. The lighting and atmosphere was very charming, absolutely full of customers to capacity but still very intimate. But all of that is shadowed by how amazing the food is. I am a steak man when it comes to upscale restaurants. Something in my guts told me to get the roasted chicken which is extremely rare. I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to try anything else on the menu. Just go here.
Be the first to ReplyJust a heads up for anyone trying to make a reservation.
We attempted to make a birthday reservation on the day they opened up reservations for the following month. I did it first thing in the morning (5AM). All the dates for the entire month were already booked except for 10PM and 11PM time slots. If you want to get in... make sure you book at 12 AM, on the dot, first of the month.

Be the first to ReplyAmazing food beautiful ambiance .
. Also Richard's service was amazing...so grateful we got squeezed in at 5pm opening after standing in weather a long time outside... delicious.. we will be back! Best crab cake ever.. Halibut was a work of art .. Things to work on -tho I love prompt service.. it needs to be dialed in on the tag team service a bit.. I felt like we had our main waiter..,then a line of soldiers in line staring at us behind.. I'm already a tight place. Richard naturally paced wonderfully on his own.. I am a slow eater and I was just trying to eat the last of my food and have amazing convo w my love.. I got asked probably 8 times could my plate be taken.. that's kinda irritating considering we were let in at 5pm and this was all between 5:15-545... we also had the table till 6:30 and still were kind enough to pay and leave before 6... I get insuring good service but you all (not my waiter) made us feel hurried for a very expensive (and again tasty meal)... it would have been nice to savor it more and our conversation without the constant interruptions for over half our time seated. Overkill, but delicious. This is not Chickfila/McDonalds so don't get into the speed... keep it at bay... cuz pretentiousness can ruin restaurants in stl and reasonable people will be respectful of time seated. We certainly were.. spending $200 in less than an hour is really an extravagant night for us it was just difficult with the constant feeling of being hurried. Took a little away from our experience.. that halibut and ambiance tho.. if you haven't been here you need to.. romantic and delicious.

All of the things you've heard are "wright" ;) I came to Wright's Tavern with a friend last minute not knowing what to expect. To start, I ordered the Negroni Bianco & a friend ordered the Wright's infamous Gin Martini which came with the cute sidecar! I loved that they gave you that, it kept the gin nice & cold for when you were ready for your refill! I had the Shrimp Scampi although everyone raves about the Halibut so that will be on my list for next time! This entree came with so much shrimp I had plenty to take home for left overs! The restaurant is quite small & there are designated spots for larger parties but it's definitely tight in there. Also, this restaurant is pretty busy & there is only street parking available so be on the lookout for parking! I hear it's VERY hard to get on the books here so watch out on the 30th or 31st of each month at midnight because that's when they release their reservations for the next month! The more you know!

Located at the center of Clayton, Wright's Tavern is a frequently visited spot for celebrations and gatherings. Making a reservation is a must in order to secure a table. Street parking is tricky. I visited Wright's Tavern on a Thursday evening. The restaurant is completely packed, though the cozy ambience and background music are lovely. Service is top-notch. Our server frequently came over to refill our water, and check if there are anything we need. As far as food, my favorites are 1) shrimp scampi and the 2) halibuts. For the shrimp scampi, the jumbo shrimp was cooked with a great garlic spicy sauce. Two pieces of bread came with that for dipping. Love the halibut as well -- The fish is perfectly cooked. It is light and flaky, with crunchy potato crisp on top. Well done! Two other items we ordered are average: 1) Roasted chicken: The sauce is overly salty, though the protein is prepared perfectly. 2) Cream brulee Regardless of some misses, Wright Tavern is still a nice spot to capture some fond memories with loved ones.
Be the first to ReplyWasnt sure what to expect here but it did not let us down.
With only 20ish tables it is quite quaint. The old fashion was spot on with aged bourbon. The salad had a load of shredded cheese on top. I like cheese on my salad and this was the most I have ever seen. It is a large and very tasty salad. The main course was a nice size halibut filet on a bed of string beans and a cream sauce. Probably the best halibut I have ever had. For desert we ordered the crรจme brรปlรฉe- that was good, but the show stopper was the ice cream sundae. Three scoops with a whipped topping and hot chocolate syrup. The sundae came on a plate with all sorts of extra toppings such as sprinkles, nuts, cherries, kit kat, etc. Cant wait to go back.
Be the first to ReplyWe stopped by for their signature dessert.
.. the ice cream sundae! This dessert comes with a scoop of strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla ice cream with a large helping of whipped cream on top. There is a table side drizzle of hot fudge which is a fun experience! Toppings include: peanut butter cups, confetti sprinkles, caramel covered puffs, mint sparkle sprinkles, salted cashews, marshmallows, Biscoff cookies, small Kit Kats, cherries, M&Ms, and our favorite... toasted coconut shreds!!The ice cream was soft, creamy, and tasted almost like custard. The hot fudge was a perfect pairing and the ability to create your own bite with each topping made for an adventurous experience, perfect for family fun. This place is definitely fine dining with and elevated environment, very on par with the other higher-end restaurants in the Clayton area. There's only about 12-15 tables in the restaurant and 4 bar seats which makes the ambiance feel more cozy. The service was quick and the staff were very friendly.Rating: 4/5, the ice cream was stellar and very filling. It's a wholesome family experience that is a MUST DO when you visit this restaurant! We hope to be back to try their food and drinks soon!

Food is GREAT, hostess clearly has strict instructions to keep every one of the limited seats warm (butts in seats at all costs) and hence makes for an uncomfortable tense seating environment. I didn't appreciate how the hostess made me feel, specifically related to waiting across the street for our seat, which we told her that we would wait across the street (no waiting area at Wright's), only to be called and told to slam our drinks and leave my friend to pay the bill so my friend could make sure we were seated asap...only to have a seat against the wall, at the bar. No big deal but the seats were not worth slamming our $14 drinks for a bar seat. Relax, I'm here to relax.
Be the first to ReplyWas super excited to get a hard to come by reservation.
Ambiance and service were absolutely fantastic. The Manhattan was probably one of the best spirit forward cocktails I've had, with lovely subtle coffee notes from the coffee steeped sweet vermouth. The bread is wonderful, and the soft salted butter/peppery olive oil that's served with it is uniquely addicting. The shrimp scampi and crab cake apps are both absolutely worth ordering again. Both the Caesar and green goddess salads were executed very well. Halibut entree was delicious, French dip was good as well. The French fries are big in portion and flavor. Basically if I had to critique something, it would be the steak that came with the steak and frites entree. It just didn't quite hit the mark, like it lacked seasoning. Certainly wasn't bad, but was not the highlight of the meal. Was a minor critique in what was otherwise a tremendous experience. Such a unique place. Can't wait to get back and try the burger!

Intimate ambience with excellent food and service (Sean/Shawn is the best). I was surprised by the large portion sizes. Scampi and crab cake were the favorite items of the table. Steak and French dip were also good.

Walked in at around 6:20 on a Friday and got seated at the bar by 8:30 (grabbed a lovely drink across the street while waiting). The highlight is for sure the crab cakes--much more crab than cake which is the ratio I am here for! Try to get a reservation if you can as bar seating is extremely limited (4 spots).
