Itโs a yes!
Violetโs in SFโs Richmond District is the kind of neighborhood bar and restaurant every neighborhood wishes it had. We started with the olives and a cocktail, and moved on to the bacon cheese burger and finished with a โBig Ass Cookieโ (thatโs how itโs listed on the menu!). None of it disappointed. In fact, it was all super delicious. Service was excellent and the decor is elevated. 10/10 would recommend!

First I want to say that the hostess was awesome in accommodating my family with seating. I made reservations for indoor seating, but when we arrived we were placed outside. When asked about the mishap they quickly made some adjustments and seated us inside. I was then informed that when making reservations via OpenTable that although you say indoor, they will note for outdoor and should we return, she suggested I call them directly so they could make the accommodations. I appreciated her effort and the tip for the next visit.
As for the food, the menu was a bit light, but all around very tasty. I had the vegetarian reuben which was awesome! What a way to use tofu! Loved it! The prix fixe special was large enough that my parents could split it and the tavern burgers and fries were on spot.
Our server was attentive and had a great engaging personality. Would definitely go back again.
mostly hits, a few misses
The restaurant on Clement Street in the Richmond District was quite crowded at 6:45 pm on a Tuesday. We were seated quickly for our 6:45 reservation however. The server was very attentive and took our drink and pre-dinner bites order quickly. The drinks and house chips and dip arrived without much wait, and both were quite good. The marinated olives were both tasty and addictive. Barbecued oysters also were a hit. The smoked trout fritters were somewhat bland and could have used a bit more oomph. Both the Tavern Burger and the West Coast Rock Cod Sandwich were very tasty and enjoyed by my friends. I ordered the Pork Belly Ribs and they were disappointing. The ribs were exceptionally fatty with minimal meat, and were basically inedible. However, the Tavern Fries saved the meal and assuaged my appetite. Overall the experience at Violet's was quite good. Attentive service and welcoming staff really will make me want to return-but will avoid the pork belly ribs.

We dropped into Violetโs by coincidence, trying to get out of the rain. The bartender was a fun, friendly and very professional young man. We ordered wine, cocktails, chips with home made dip and fresh oysters during happy hour. Violetโs offers very innovative food & drinks. It is not cheap but well worth the expense.

Our only experience was a great glass of wine and an appetizer that was delicious. Then the lights went out on a very rainy evening. So nothing came out of the kitchen, although it took quite awhile for them to let us know that. They could have served the salad at least but we left hungry. It was a Friday night and the crowd was very loud. Not a place to have a conversation but a great addition to the neighborhood

It was a pretty rainy night with lots of wind but, after finding the perfect parking space almost right in front, we made it into this somewhat new but yet untried restaurant. Bustling atmosphere with not much chance to have a conversation, which seemed a little odd for a Wednesday night. But our server was the best, attentive, professional, knowledgeable, great smile, and just a really nice guy. We ordered after taking maybe a little longer than usual as we were catching up on about 2 years...
Ordering was challenging cuz we wanted to try a number of different things that sounded really great. Oysters, cooked or raw, fresh fish selections, creative salads...
But alas, the power went out. Hoping it was momentary as we saw the businesses across the street had lights on. But after an hour of no one really offering anything other than a small bowl of nuts and being finally told, the chef had left, we made our way to another local spot.
Will definitely try for another evening. The service was really above par by several notches, the wine was really good, and those both could and should be key indicators of terrific food!
Violets....meh
More notable for its neighborhood bar scene and bar food. Iโve had two dinners and one lunch there and will give it a another chance. At night, this place is LOUD. The first meal I had there was a pole bean ap and their signature burger. Pretty good. Second meal was a salad and a shrimp roll. Brunch was the burger again, but this time the kitchen was off and was overlooked and tired. The fries on both occasion were tasty. Service on all three occasions needed polishing. For now, Iโll stick to their sister joint Fiorella a few doors down.

We were recommended this place by some foodie friends, I looked online and it said no reservations were needed, we went before a show on a Tuesday night and were told that if we didn't have a reservation that they had a table but we had to finish by a certain time because all the tables were booked. Fortunately we had about 1 hour, so were able to still enjoy our meal and drinks without feeling too rushed. The cocktails were good, but small for the price. I had the grilled pork chop - flavorful and done perfectly, and my husband had the stuffed sole, looked like a small portion but was very rich in flavor. Our server was very helpful with suggestions (I am lactose intolerant so she advised against the sole). We saw the seafood platter pass by, it looked like something we needed to try the next time we come. It is a small place, you can sit at the bar, you can tell it is a neighborhood type of place. Thank you friends for suggesting this place!
