Vestry New York Reviews from The Last Year
Came here last Valentine's Day so may be a bit outdated.
The ambience was cute - Had something unique that I don't usually see so can appreciate that. Service was great as expected though food came out slow - note this was Valentine's Day so perhaps faster on a usual night. Food was good though not particularly my cup of tea but could appreciate the creativity. Coat check process was a bit hectic but given the amount of people, I was impressed how the folks there managed to keep up.
I went here for their restaurant week menu and can see why
I went here for their restaurant week menu and can see why they have a Michelin star! The service here was amazing. They check your coats for free. They never let my water glass get empty. Everything we had was solid good. Our favorites were the organic chicken, braised pork belly and homemade cheesecake. I almost didn't recognize the organic chicken because of it's oblong shape, but it was so tender and delightfully surprised it came with a crispy chicken the shape of a chip! The braised pork belly was also really good. The mustard sauce was not too sharp and it came with a crispy skin. The homemade cheesecake was super clever shaped like cheese and the apple compote the shape of a mouse. The cheesecake was the perfect sweetness and sharpness. It was surprisingly soft and I don't know how it held it's shape. The drinks were small, but fun. They had seasonal cocktails with names like "He's Just Ken", but it was just a bit tart for me. We went during dinner time and the atmosphere was a great date night spot. We could tell that it would also be a great lunch spot with all of the windows and real plants (really appreciated that).
As soon as you walk in you are greeted by a host for
As soon as you walk in you are greeted by a host for reservations, the host wasn't particularly friendly. In fact I did call 30 minutes earlier to let the restaurant know that I'd be running 5 minutes late but was given some sass on the phone call. It wasn't rude but it definitely didn't give a first good impression. So already walking in I was a bit timid. We were seated quickly and the service was super friendly, our waiter gave us wine recommendations based on our tastes and we enjoyed our choices. The ambiance of the restaurant was alright, you can check in your coat so you don't have to put it on the chair. Our table was close to the bar and near the entrance so maybe that's why we also didn't have much of an "ambient" table. We had the parmesan milk bread, and it was alright. the texture was very chewy. I had the peri peri chicken and my friend had the lamb neck. Both of us thought it was decent but nothing too special. We really wanted to love the place because we knew it was michelin star. For dessert we had the jasmine panna cotta, which was really really sweet, and they also gave us another dessert on the house, not too sure what it was but it was too bitter. I think overall all the food was maybe too strong in flavor profiles. I won't be visiting again but I'm glad I gave it a try
I could certainly see why Vestry received a 2023 Michelin
I could certainly see why Vestry received a 2023 Michelin Star -- boasting a beautiful space, excellent service, and elevated - delicious food! Was excited to see that they participated in NYC Restaurant Week and was able to snag a reservation. The hostess was warm and friendly and the space was modern and beautiful. They even lined their chairs with an Alpaca wool cover (I think: still processing how I feel about that but it was super comfy). Wait staff were very attentive and offered suggestions for drinks and meal options. Appetizers were excellent: - Sourdough bread was warm and fresh, served with an earthy mushroom flavored butter - Salmon Crudo had the most delicious citrus dressing contrasted with tapioca like salmon roe - Pork belly was perfectly tender and crispy Main Course: Delicious garlic marinated shrimp grilled to perfect Crispy skin chicken was tender and delicious Desert: The cheesy cheesecake in a league of its own. Whimsical and delicious (a must) Chocolate moose was good but not spectacular Can't wait to return for other menu items

3.4 to be exact. Came here for restaurant week. Appetizers and entrees were okay but flavors were nothing memorable. The sous vide chicken was very moist and tender though. Desserts were their weakest link. Their signature cheese cake was supper cute in presentation, but had a weird taste that I couldn't bare. All the desserts were heavy on sugar. The best thing was the fresh milk bread we paid extra for.
Came here for restaurant week and was honestly pleasantly
Came here for restaurant week and was honestly pleasantly surprised! I feel like Michelin star places can be hit or miss because of the hype and sometimes pretentious attitude so I was skeptical but overall had a good meal here Here are my highlights and low lights: Pros: - I was really happy with the combinations of flavor and texture for each of the dishes! We tried the salmon crudo, shrimp main course, chicken main course, and mushroom app. Each of the dishes had really fresh ingredients. The mix of umami rich flavors with the fresh greens and crunchy textures was an absolutely divine flavor explosion in each bite! - my friend has a lot of allergies so I really really appreciated them accommodating his allergies while still making delicious and flavorful dishes! Cons: - for how fancy it was, at times we felt a bit rushed when they kept asking if we were done when there was still food on the plate - I think I'm being a bit dramatic but it felt a little presumptuous when the waiter said "I assume you're here for restaurant week" because of the tone in which it was said I do think this place is worth checking out for a nice meal because of the food and ambiance, but I probably would only do this for restaurant week because the prices are a little more affordable.
WARNING -Racial Discrimination: We were served by a black
WARNING -Racial Discrimination: We were served by a black waiter who showed discriminatory behavior towards Asians, which was quite unexpected and unacceptable, especially in a Michelin 1-star restaurant. Unlike other tables, we were only provided with the Restaurant Week menu, which had only two dishes and cost 60/pp. I thought they don't offer full menu during restaurant week but he gave full menu for every table around us and was very enthusiastic. Thus I asked him where is the full menu and he gave us without saying a word. Also, he indifferently poured tap water straight to us and splashed water on the table, I was surprised but I didn't say anything. 10 mins later a lady sat behind us, and he asked politely if she wanted still or sparkling water. And another group of patrons came: the same, attentively, contrasting sharply with us. It was ridiculous. Given these circumstances, I didn't want to tolerate. And I felt that not tipping would not lead to self-reflection but might reinforce negative stereotypes. Therefore, I chose directly complained to the manager and told him I wanted a different waiter. And I got one, but no apology from the manager or the waiter. I believe it's important to share such feedback to promote a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all patrons. (It cost 290 before tax and we tipped 60 to our new waiter, if I tipped the previous one 60 for that service I would definitely regret it the whole way home) And WHATS MORE: if you unfortunately meet a Racial Discrimination waiter, don't tolerate, don't tip badly or not tip without saying any words. If so, they could not reflect on himself, he would just think you are the a**hole that he believe your race are. Just complain to the manger and write a google review, etc. to help others avoid this restaurant. And before I came in I had no idea they participated in restaurant week, but clearly my experience told that they looked down upon patrons came for the restaurant week menu and only spent 60pp. So do not choose it as your restaurant week option!
The wagu was good.
Good if you're looking for trendy, not mind blowing. Decent meal. Good service. It's weird that that they're selective on their complimentary bread, I had to pay for mine.

We tried Vestry for restaurant week, and it was not worth
We tried Vestry for restaurant week, and it was not worth the price at all! Not sure if the restaurant week menu was representative of the regular menu, but our experience was subpar for a Michelin restaurant. We were disappointed. The organic chicken was dry and not tender. The quinoa side was the best part of the dish. We paid an extra $40 supplement on top of restaurant week prices for the imperial wagyu beef, but it tasted like regular steak and was in fact too chewy for our liking. We enjoyed the salmon crudo and the braised pork belly appetizers (although the sauce was unevenly distributed so one part tasted better than the other). We also enjoyed the parmesan milk bread and chocolate mousse dessert. The waiter asked if we wanted tap, still or sparkling water but did not mention the cost difference. To our surprise, sparkling water cost us $9 each.
I always love eating here! One of my favorite restaurants.
The food is so amazing especially the desserts!! Such a good price for a michelin star too, and the portion sizes were amazing!

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
