The perfect coworker lunch to made-to-impress without
The perfect coworker lunch to made-to-impress without entirely breaking the bank for hip Italian fare. All while being close to all the big offices in midtown.$25+ for pasta is no longer a crime, but a given now for decades now in the city. Valbella is definitely on the list for our next company gathering, or the next time my parents decide to visit unexpectedly.

Food is impeccable, the truffle pasta is to die for!

..A tremendously positive dining experience during this holiday season.Walking into Valbella is similar to entering a Winter Wonderland. Bright and spacious the comfort level here is high. Service is aware and friendly with the owner inquiring on your evening. Our menu choices were all winners. Our table of six shared "Vongole Oreganata' (baked little neck clams) and "Caprese" (mozzarella, eggplant, roasted peppers, tomatoes). Main courses included "Costoletta Burrata" a wonderful veal chop stuffed with burrata cheese. Two "T-Bone Steak Specials were prehistoric in size and flavor. Other winning selections included "Costoletta alla Capricciosa" - veal chop with tomatoes and onions and the Berkshire pork chop with peppers and sliced potatoes.Espresso and after dinner drinks finish off a fine evening...

TL;DR Convenient spot for dinner if you catch yourself in that area of midtown, but definitely would not recommend going otherwise.I should preface this review with the fact that this was a somewhat stressful business dinner that was under a bit of a time crunch, but nevertheless, did not have a good experience.Ambiance (2/5) - way too noisy. A lot of people here were for private events or happy hour, but it was nearly impossible to have a conversation; the indoor acoustics were just awful. Decor was beautiful and the outdoor tent area was quaint with fairy lights so bringing the rating up to 2, but it was so loud... also part of the room was high ceilings and spacious, well lit, and the middle of the room was really low ceiled and dim, which was really odd.Food (1/5) - ordered the squid ink pasta, which somehow managed to be too bitter, too salty and also too bland at the same time. It was served in a tomato sauce with seafood and arugula. The arugula was raw and way too bitter, wilted quickly and became slimy. The red sauce was way too salty but somehow the tomatoes were still sour, possible the salt was tossed after the fact. The octopus and crab meat were both mostly tasteless, suggesting they weren't sautéed or marinated beforehand.Service (1/5) - wait staff were fairly aggressive and while understandably loud, one of our party was speaking to the rest of us with a phone on the desk making a call. Wait staff still loudly interrupted him to take his order, and loudly interrupted him again to deliver our food. Still managed to get our orders mixed up.Prices (1/5) - understandably this is a place where most people are not paying for themselves, but still, asking for over $40 on average for a pasta dish of this size and caliber seems way too much. Definitely did not deserve this price.Would not come again.

The food is amazing and authentic, the vibe is elegant & chill. The service and staff are efficient and super nice not to mention the owner David is a man not from this time but a time where Chivalry is still alive and is so courteous & sweet. I had an amazing time. Will definitely be going back
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyed an excellent dinner at Valbella on our recent trip
Enjoyed an excellent dinner at Valbella on our recent trip to New York. I enjoyed the Caprese appetizer-- brilliantly fresh tomatoes and cheese, perfect grilled zucchini and interestingly marinated eggplant. And the breaded Veal Martini was cooked perfectly with a light wine/lemon sauce and perfectly cooked vegetables. Dining partner enjoyed endive salad and perfectly grilled branzino fish. A nice wine, yummy molten chocolate cake, and perfect service made for a lovely evening.

I can not express enough how perfect every detail was. The food was phenomenal. The staff was exceptional. The owner is kind and genuinely wonderful and Danielle the events planner is a gem. If you have a chance to get here for lunch, dinner or an event do it! You will not regret it for a single second. I'd give 20 stars if I could. The best experience. The BEST
Be the first to ReplyOne of the better Italian places I've tried.
First time in NY and was craving to try a new place. We were walking around and stumble on this place and gave it a go. The food was delicious and the staff was super friendly.
Be the first to ReplyI was there for a birthday dinner.
I have to say, I was not impressed. The food is nothing special, pasta was just regular pasta. Staff was very friendly but a bit pushy to make you order off of the main menu. I would not go back, sorry!

I've been here recently and it was amazing! The service is outstanding, just like the staff. Lovely outdoor setup and indoor has private dining as well. Plenty of wine and cocktails to choose from. Started off with oysters, super fresh and tasty. Can't forget the whole bottle of 1942 either, but let's continue. Then some juicy stone crab. Squeezed lemon on everything. For salad, I had the insalata Valbella. I love the chunks of Parmesan cheese. I then had jumbo shrimp with oreganata- my favorite dish. I didn't stop there, costolleta di agnello was next, baby rack of lambs. They were large and had some lamb fat which I enjoy. To end the fabulous dinner with dessert, I had the napoleon. It has toasted almonds, huge, and creamy. Would recommend for a great experience with Italian cuisine. Might be back soon...
