This was an amazing experience for omakase! I see why this
This was an amazing experience for omakase! I see why this place is called unique omakase... I got to try many things I haven't before and I loved them all! I got to try different fishes and abalone for the first time. I also had monk fish liver for the second time and loved it even more here. Every course was so carefully curated and tasted even better than it looked. The restaurant itself was great with such a nice sushi counter. The chefs were so nice as were the wait staff. I'll be coming back!
Be the first to ReplyI came here to enjoy omakase.
There was a party in which the people were drunk and somehow affecting my experience. The chef gave me a free course and added more uni (sea urchin) to the courses which I enjoyed a lot. I'd definitely come back to this place.
Be the first to ReplyThis place has decent omakase for a decent price ($120/pp).
Omakase for 2, a bottle of sake, and 2 Sapporo beers came out to $360, including tax and tip. The sushi chef is very nice and explains what each piece is as it's served. The service is great overall. I wasn't a particular fan of the fish liver which were unfortunately 2 of the 16 pieces served.
Be the first to ReplyChef Ken is amazing.
Unique Omakase has a very run down look on the outside, and a very generic sounding name, but the food inside is great. Chef Ken prepared each part of the omakase with different flavors and they used a great variety of fish. Some omakase places give you a lot of the standard fish (salmon, yellowtail, tuna) with little variety but we had fish like dorade royale and kuromutsu here in addition to the standards. Most importantly, you felt the difference in taste of the different fish. The setting is intimate, about 12 seats I think, with each chef responsible for 6 people each. I never felt rushed like at some omakase places and the chef spoke both English and Chinese to explain each piece. I also read another yelp review commenting that the chef is chinese. It is funny when people mention the ethnicity or sex of the chef when what matters is how the food tastes and Chef Ken made the food taste great. Even when you go to Michelin star omakase restaurants, the main chef whose Japanese name may be on the restaurant may not even be there so guess who is preparing your sushi? It's clear that Chef Ken had the training and practice to do justice to the fish. Is this going to be the best omakase you've ever had? Of course not. But unique omakase 100% punches above its weight and is worth the money you spend there (Currently $96 for 16 courses - 3 appetizers, 11 nigiri, 1 handroll and 1 dessert). Will definitely be coming again.

I've been to a ton of omakase spots in NYC and this one is definitely up there with the best. It's 16 courses for $96 which is one of the best deals I've seen, but what really makes it special is how fresh & creative each course is. The staff is extremely nice and answered all of our questions about where the fish came from and why it's paired with certain things. Also the fact that it's BYOB is a major win for New Yorkers.

12/10 recommend for a wonderful and delicious dinner in a low key environment. Big hole-in-the-wall vibes and the food is amazinggggg. The inside is very nice with only bar seating (10-16 max) which is great because you get to see the chefs put together the beautiful creations for you to eat. Each piece is unique with such a wide range of flavors. The staff is super friendly, attentive and easy to get to know. They remember people and take care of return customers. $85 for 15 (!) courses is totally reasonable, especially given the experience. Hope y'all will go show them some love and support!
Be the first to Reply"Unique" is a bit of a misnomer.
More like "less commonplace than all the other boring Edomae omakase spots". See also: Sushi chef is Chinese. Is that unique? Anyway, this is one of the more affordable options in the city for 15 courses ngiri and small apps. $85 will nab you some fun dishes like shrimp in shell with uni and seasoned seaweed. But the main reason to come here? Your birthday. We did a group birthday dinner here (3 out of 4 of us had May birthdays) and were surprised with not one but two generous dishes of birthday sashimi and rice--for free! And those were some pretty generous cuts of salmon, tuna and yellowtail. Me like free.

We heard about this place recently so Me and my friend went to this place couple days ago, but it was a total disappointment. The experience was so bad, we didn't get any service at all. Once we got seated the server just came up to us and offer cup of water and never went back to ask if we needed anything the whole time. The sushi rice was hard most of the sushi there are lack of flavor just like defrosted fish and additionally the chef there never talk to us while serving cause he was too busy talking to others. I felt disrespected the whole time. I guess we'll never going back again and definitely would not recommend this place to anyone.

I LOVE UNIQUE OMAKASE! I have come to this restaurant six times now lol, and every time I came, it got better. Whether it's the program of omakase, the balance of the sushi, dessert, or service, every time I come, they made it better. Now they don't have a menu of what they serve, and I quite like that. Because I genuinely look forward to what will be the next piece. Also, it is not a big place, but there's a room behind where you sit so you can walk freely without getting into someone's face lol also, the room in the back where you can finish your drink after your meal is just top notch!
Be the first to Reply纽约omakase遍地开花,在下着些小雨的周五,我打卡了这家传说中同胞开的诚意满满的性价比高高的omakase----Unique Omakase 15道course 85刀一个人不含税不含小费,店内装修潦草,喂就算打性价比牌子表面功夫还是要做一下的啊!

You can easily miss the place when walking by but this is a must try! This place offers 15 courses for $85 - which is honestly a pretty good price for that amount of pieces. Every fish was fresh, the place was quiet and had good music playing. Staff was friendly. Will definitely come back again!
Be the first to ReplyI went back and had diarrhea for 2 days after eating here.
The chef talk to each other all the time, fast food omakase, no sense of atmosphere! Really not recommended
Be the first to ReplyNot even sure where to begin.
Been to just about every Omakase spot in NYC and I put this at the top of my list. Friendly sushi chefs and service provided matches the quality of the sushi. Menu consistently evolving and changes based on the fish they overnight from Japan. Fresh and truly a Unique Omakase experience (pun intended) lol Not sure you can find another $85 Omakase menu comparable to $200+
Be the first to ReplySuper intimate space.
The chef and small staff were so kind and attentive. Sushi was incredible. While each piece was delicate and artfully assembled, we still left feeling full and satisfied. Definitely check out this spot for delicious and affordable omakase.

Quite a good selection of items for the Omakase! Definitely somewhat unique and different flavor profiles. A small sake selection available too. Would come back for a quick and friendly meal. The shop is located in the East Village, and you need to buzz the front door to come in. It would be nice if the buzzer was less loud or silent.

I came here for their 15 course Omakase for $85 and it was amazing! Surprisingly this made me full and it had everything in the course (appetizer, sashimi plate, nigiri, hand roll, and dessert)! My favorite has to be the seared O-toro, but everything was amazing! I highly recommend if you're looking for an amazing experience for you palate!

I will say this omakase lives up to its name, it is unique (in a good way)! For $85 you get 15 courses and I will say it is well worth the price. I was excited and engaged in each course because not all were traditional nigiri. There were composed sashimi bites and a miso soup (on the house) course integrated in the omakase, which was a nice respite and all so complex and perfectly timed. Atmosphere was modern and service was impeccable. Definitely check out this spot especially to those looking for a stray from a traditional omakase!
Be the first to ReplyMade a reservation for Tues.
at 7:30pm for 2 and we were the only people dining there the entire time. Maybe we went on an off day but they had to substitute a couple of the pieces with different fishes since they were out. That was disappointing. The pieces are more creative than the traditional omakase spots. We also got the Sexy Mac as an add on and it was a really good rich mouthful, worth the $26.Overall, I had high expectations since I was recommended this place but my experience was a little different than my friend's and I was left feeling like something was missing. However, 15 pieces for $85 is definitely a steal since other places nearby are charging more for less. I would recommend coming on the weekend when they have done most of the prep for their busy days and perhaps all the fishes will be in stock.
