A Survivor in the time of Cholera
Uncle Louis’s is a local restaurant that’s been here quite a few years so they must be doing something right. We’ve been here 2 or 3 times in the last 10 years so they must not be doing anything really spectacular and I think that sums up Uncle Louis’s. We decided to return tonight and were pleased they actually seemed to be well staffed, and serving Veal Marsala, which I formerly used to rate any restaurant that served it. It’s a plus for Uncle Louis that they still do this when others have stopped because they could no long source quality veal at a price their customer base would put up with. The last really great Veal Marsala I had was possibly around the year 2002, when the mushrooms were freshly cut for each serving, the veal was thick, cut-it-with-a-fork tender, and always served with lemon wedges, although another local restaurant served a Veal Marsala with artichoke hearts which was very good. I know that scallopini means a scallop or thin but they never used to be that thin. So, very thin slices of veal served with a mushroom sauce using aged mushrooms from many days ago and I had to ask for lemon wedges. And not for the $14.95 I paid in 2002. The waitress, who was not old enough to drink, touted a Cabernet which I ordered but it turned out they had run out of it. Some disconnect between the wait staff and the wine cellar. She recommended a cheaper Cab. I switched to a Willamette Valley Pinot which was excellent although $3 a glass cheaper than the recommended wine. The roasted asparagus was nicely done but the asparagus stalks were very thin which takes something away from the pleasure. I hope to return to Uncle Louis’s in about three or four years to see how they’re doing with the Veal Marsala.

Hand sanitizer is outside of the restaurant asking patrons to use it before entering. Acrylic barriers have been installed at the counters and at the booths for social distancing. All staff wore masks. Only incoming and outgoing customers wore masks. Those dining, did not. We ordered the Spicy Mediterranean on half and a Margarita with roasted garlic pizza on the other half. We waited about 15 min for our freshly made pizza to go. When our order was ready, staff notified us. A very large pizza full of goodies. Very tasty and leftovers too. A large parking lot.
I tried to add photos but it is not working.
Beat Italian in Cave Creek and Carefree
My wife got the Labster Ravioli and loved it. I had the Halibut in an amazing cause with Pasta. I go to Alaska to fish for Halibut every year so I know my Halibut. This was prepared in a wonderful cause and the fish was cooked to perfection.
Be the first to ReplyWe even ate inside!!
In December we made early reservations to eat indoors at Uncle Louie's; we used to dine with these people for many years where they were located in closer to Carefree in the Terravita shopping center. Much has changed and they moved many years ago but it is the same delicious food served with personal attention today as it was then. There were 3 of us and we each had different items but they were all very good.

You are asked to sanitize before entering. Dine in and take out are available. If you dine in there are plastic partitions between booths. We ordered half Spicy Mediterranean (artichokes, olives, banana peppers and cheese) and half roasted tomatoes and garlic pizza. The order took about 15 min as everything is made to order. The pizza was good with loads of ingredients on it. It is a good sized pizza with some pieces for tomorrow. Parking lot.
Be the first to ReplyAverage Italian
We had dinner on a Friday and it was very busy. I ordered the pasta with meatballs and it was very average. Too much sauce on the pasta where it was drenched and the two small meatballs were average...price of dish $17.95. I' m light eater so there was enough food.. If you are a big eater this portion would be too small so order appetizers.. The service was good.
Be the first to ReplyTakeout twice here during COVID lockdown
Ordered takeout here as they are one of the closest restaurants to our house- 5 minutes away. We had company in town in March the first time and we added chicken to a meal and it was forgotten even though we were charged extra for it. Upon calling they offered to remake the meal but then we would all be done eating or our food would be cold before we returned with the corrected meal if we waited so they offered a gift card. We would rather have opted for a credit back to our card as this gift card forced us to return to their restaurant because of a screwed up order. And being snowbirds we only had a limited time to use it. Our pasta dishes were otherwise good with our first order but we decided to try a salad, pizza and chocolate cake when using our gift card. Even though the pizza is pricey at $23. We were told 45 minutes for our order to be ready. Believing it would be done sooner, my husband got there at 30 minutes. When looking over the order, the cake was missing and he questioned it, then they said they ran out. So we would’ve gone home unknowing had we not asked? Another customer called as my husband was there saying they were missing a salad so apparently we aren’t the only order they get wrong. When my husband got home with this 2nd order, the pizza was hardly warm and our salad had the dressing on it but it should’ve been on the side. How many times can you screw up orders? We literally only had 3 items in our 2nd order. We will refrain from takeout here in the future.
Be the first to ReplySo good, I'm hesitant to tell people about it.
We're regulars, and we've never been disappointed. Owners and staff are great, and what comes on the plate has always been superb. Yes, they get a little slow when they're super-busy, but what restaurant doesn't? Top-notch.
Be the first to ReplyA great buzz and wonderful
A great buzz and wonderful food. Uncle Louie’s has been around for at least 20 years, and this family run business has a good menu and happy hour. Two entrees I recommend are the Mediterranean Seafood Salad and the Veal Parmesan. This place is always busy so get a reservation or be prepared to wait.
Be the first to ReplyLiver Lovers, The BEST I have had.
On a Vacation in Scottsdale years ago we discovered Uncle Louie’s. The Italian influences on the menu abound. The Liver is perhaps THE BEST i have ever had. Hard to describe and somewhat different from what Mother served, I can’t wait to try it again.
Sergio our waiter was great.
