Umi is a great sushi date night spot or to celebrate for a special occasion. The ambiance of the place strikes you first - it's great, with a chic and sophisticated vibe. The mood lighting sets a nice tone, although it's a bit on the darker side, which might not be ideal for lively group interactions. Menus are on the phone, so keep that in mind as well if you have trouble reading your phone in dark light. Our service was good overall, but we did notice a delay in the food. It wasn't clear if this was due to a shortage of staff in the kitchen or just a particularly busy night, even though it was a weeknight. This seemed to be an issue for others too, as the table next to us had some frustration over the service and speed, leading to their lobster dishes being comped. For us, it wasn't a major issue since we weren't in a rush, but it was definitely noticeable. The highlight for me was the Wagyu nigiri. Having had both Wagyu and Kobe nigiri in Japan, my expectations were sky-high, and I'm thrilled to say Umi met them! Each bite was a delightful experience in itself. And of course, the black cod - it lived up to its reputation and was delicious, just like most of the items on the menu, once they finally arrived. Despite the minor hiccups, I'm looking forward to returning to Umi. Maybe I'll try my luck on a slower day next time to see if that changes the pace of service. There's definitely more on the menu that I'm eager to try.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolute perfection in sushi.
The atmosphere was a bit loud, but the space is beautiful. Our server was efficient and not overbearing.
Be the first to ReplyThere are very few dining experiences in this city like Umi.
The service is top notch, the ambience is beautiful...and the food!! You can tell they take such care and pride in everything they serve you. Must try's (in my opinion) are the crispy spicy tuna, the lobster (it cooks in front of you), and basically any sushi roll. Their desserts are amazing, too! I'm getting hungry just thinking about my meal...I will most definitely be back soon!

Umi was such a great date night sushi spot in Buckhead and probably my favorite sushi in the area! They get absolutely packed so make sure you have a reservation before you go! I'm not sure why they don't validate for self parking ($14 for 2 hours), but valet is only $2 so it's clearly the better choice. The inside is really nice and I love the decor, but you could tell they try to fit as many people as possible in the restaurant because we were SO CLOSE to the people next to us we even had a laugh with them about now having a 4 person dinner. The service was phenomenal and super fast too! I don't think we even had to ask for water refills which is huge because my bf downs his water lol. We shared the fatty tuna Osaka box roll and the hurricane and typhoon rolls. The box roll isn't bad, I've had better at other sushi spots. The hurricane and typhoon rolls were fantastic, especially the hurricane one! Get it if you're a salmon lover!! We ended the night with the donut and the crème brûlée desserts. They were both great 10/10 desserts so would highly recommend them. Tbh price actually wasn't too bad for all the food we got!! There are definitely pricier items on the menu, but for how fancy the interior and the clientele are, it wasn't that much more expensive than a lot of sushi spots around Atlanta.

This restaurant has horrible customer service and racially unsupportive I would never recommend anyone of color to frequent this restaurant and definitely not prepare my food. Umi Sushi

Yan at the front was so friendly. The owner on the other hand, was a complete disaster, I heard some worrying distasteful comments come out of his mouth. Boycott

This place pretends to be something it's not: a five star restaurant. I wouldn't be so hard on Umi if it weren't presenting itself as a great restaurant while everything from food to service was subpar. I'd sooner eat gas-station sushi than eat here again.

Be the first to ReplyAll I can say is YUM - Umi was absolutely delicious.
I'm usually hard to impress when it comes to cocktails but I loved the Haru. It's so light and refreshing - truly a star. The sushi was so fresh and the flavors with each bite were unique and savory. Definitely a splurge and the portions aren't huge, but the food is too good. The service is always great too, very kind staff. Even though it's always busy it is well spread out to where you don't feel like it's super loud inside.
Be the first to ReplyLove me some omakase.
Came here for a celebration and they were so sweet and kept greeting us when we arrived. The omakase was pretty filling and they had multiple dishes. The first sashimi dish was so fresh and came with some chilis on top which was the perfect spice to the sashimi. I also really loved the fish, it was perfectly seared and cooked. The fish was well seasoned and tender. The fish literally melts in your mouth. The sushi platter was amazing, they even tell you which side you should start on. My favorite was definitely the salmon with caviar on top! The caviar was the perfect topping for the sashimi. We also got some shrimp with the omakase set, it was perfectly fried and the sauce was savory. Overall, their omakase was great, sashimi was fresh, and service was attentive. The ambiance was nice and the space was dimly lit.

Came here for either my birthday or my anniversary with my hubby and had their omakase menu. This would be my 2nd omakase in GA and it was definitely a good experience! I like the low, dimwitted atmosphere of the inside. We sat at the table closest to the chefs. My favorite part was actually dessert because it was a cake in a chocolate sphere that you got to break with a little mallet. I was wow'd by the nigiri and the flavors were there, however I think it felt like another factor was missing. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed my time and taste here! Everything was served beautifully and the staff were very welcoming from the hostess to our waiter and the kitchen! Overall I had a great time with my husband and we really enjoyed the experience

My goodness! Top tier sushi! The avocado with onions was absolutely- the besttttt avocado i have everrr had. I would come back to order 5 of them & nothing else if that was all they had! Sushi was very clean tasting & great! we had some cab wine that was recommended by our waiter which was so good as well. Ambiance is more of a dark type of vibe, very little light & calm. My favorite sushi restaurant in Atlanta so far! Love love love it here! PS- you should also dress up/casual .. they're pretty strict with dress code! No sweatsuits or lounge way will be allowed! 10/10 recommend :)

If you use valet parking then your ticket will be validated; this is not applicable for self-parking in the garage. Umi is an upscale sushi restaurant. The food, service, and ambiance are all top notch here! It is always busy, so make sure you make reservations in advance. My husband and I usually order the omakase options and have always left fulfilled. Tonight, we ordered the Chef's Choice of Assorted Nigiri, Lobster Toban-Yaki, and Foie Gras Roll. The chef's selection of fish for the nigiri was superb; very fresh and melts in your mouth. The lobster and foie gras were buttery and delightful. Each dish was executed to perfection. The green tea soufflé is a must order for dessert! Umi is always a reliable choice. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyLove Umi.
We had a great meal a few months ago. To be honest, I find sushi places are often overwhelming--so many options and I never know what to order, so I usually throw myself at the mercy of our server. We sat in the bar and the bar manager basically put together what he would eat if he were there for a meal. Wow. There was some sort of avocado thing that was warm and spicy and buttery--I've never had anything like it and I hate avocado, but I loved it. The sushi was fresh and interesting and each course was a little bit different. It was a great meal.I'll definitely go back, but only if I can get some help curating another meal!
Be the first to ReplyI have been to Umi several times.
... First, let me say that their service and food are amazing!! unfortunately, their portion sizes have dropped quite significantly, but the prices of remain the same. I remember going there several times, although not in the past couple of years, noting that I had amazing drinks and food, and I left full! This time we spent a lot of money for four people granted we got a lot of drinks, a few apps and a few rolls with two desserts and it ran over $400... but sadly, we still left hungry because the portion sizes were smaller and we had to keep ordering. The drinks are not cheap either. I still strongly recommend this restaurant. You must make reservations and dress appropriately. It's very high-end, very well decorated with stellar service and absolutely delicious and fresh food... But you may leave a little hungry depending on what you get. They have expanded their menu and there's a lot more options, we have not been since before Covid so it's definitely different and I would definitely come here again it's a great place to bring family and dates and a great place to celebrate. My only advice to you is to pick your food wisely. otherwise, i still love it. They also have valet parking.
Be the first to ReplyI would recommend doing the omakase.
It is a great experience. If ordering off the menu, I do recommend the Foie Gras and spider rolls, the Sake Aioli nigiri, and the smoked duck breast. The nigiri selection is a little lacking on the menu. Service is usually prompt and attentive, but we have experienced delays in being seated for our reservations a few times. The ambiance is quite nice. Overall a good experience if you're looking for a well curate Omakase experience in Atlanta.
Be the first to ReplyI surprised my girlfriend with dinner at Umi, to celebrate
I surprised my girlfriend with dinner at Umi, to celebrate her getting a new job. We went on a Saturday at 5:30pm, as that was the only time they had at a reasonable hour for Friday/Saturday. I made the reservation like 3 weeks in advance, and there wasn't much to select from. I highly suggest booking at least a month in advance, as this place always gets super busy, especially on the weekends. Apart from that, everything was EXCELLENT. This was both of ours first time at Umi, so we wanted to make sure we tried a few things. We got the house salad with ginger dressing, rock shrimp tempura, brussels sprouts, spicy tuna w/ crispy rice, hurricane roll, Madai sashimi, Bincho-Maguro nigiri, and then this really cool breakable chocolate dessert. We also got two drinks each as well, I can't remember what they were, but they were excellent. We are huge fans of spicy tuna w/ crispy rice, so we had to get this off the menu. It tasted excellent. The rice was super crispy and the tuna was fresh. The rock shrimp tempura was also a huge hit. I liked how the pieces were bite sized, and you could eat them in one bite. We don't really like shrimp tempura when it's huge pieces and takes a few bites to eat them. The salad wasn't anything special, pretty standard. The brussels sprouts had a nice tangy-charred taste, we enjoyed them. The hurricane roll was recommended to us by our server, as it's pretty popular. It's a spicy salmon and cucumber roll topped w/ salmon, yellowtail, and avocado. It was SO GOOD. It came with 8 pieces, so perfect amount to share. I am not the biggest fan of sashimi and nigiri, but the ones we got were pretty good. They didn't taste super fishy. The two we got we had never tried before. I personally liked the Bincho-Maguro one more. The food was all so tasty and tasted pretty fresh. A 5/5 for food. The drinks we got were pretty good too. I can't remember which drinks we got, but they were quite good and refreshing. The service is decent. Our server did forget to check on us a few times, but we didn't mind. But I wished he had been a little more attentive. We wanted more water and it took a second for him to come and refill our glasses. The vibe is a upscale kind of feel. They do have a dress code which they enforce. But this is common, because this is a much nicer restaurant. Not saying you need to dress to the nines. But for guys, a shirt with buttons is recommended. My girlfriend wore a dress. For parking, you can drive and get a portion validated, or you can valet your car. We Ubered, since we were going to be drinking. The price of Umi is pretty expensive. This is definitely a special occasion type of restaurant. I wouldn't come here on the regular, but it's great for a birthday or a anniversary or a new job!!!Umi is one of Atlanta's finest. You definitely need to make the visit here at least once and immerse yourself in the entire experience. You won't be disappointed.*Side note: The entrance is pretty difficult to locate. We had a little trouble finding the entrance. If you get lost, definitely just ask someone or even pop into Garden Room and ask somebody that works there.*

HOLY MOLY 5/5 spot!! This spot is vibe, ambiance, and superb food quality!! The duck tataki was like no other with the perfect pairing of pear and greens in each and every bite. The spicy tuna on crispy rice was *chefs kiss*. Perfectly spicy and crispy combo. The roll was freshly made and each bite was perfection!! Can't wait to go back!!

Wonderful experience truly, everyone was so kind and welcoming. Although it was my first time and I was a bit skeptical about the rating and reviews this restaurant truly exceeded what I was expecting and will be returning again. Our server Khoi so helpful and kind. Food was amazing and tasted so fresh, the drinks were great as well!

The manager, Taka, is extremely rude and not very accommodating. He actually hung up on me, was incredibly rude and tried to explain a policy that made zero sense. He seemed very elitist, full of himself and was not concerned at all about customer service. I have heard great things about the food and this restaurant. But, there are a ton of other great restaurants in Buckhead and I will think twice about ever dining at Umi. Disappointing!

My family and I had a 5:45 resi tonight and we had trouble getting an Uber. we called once we got in an Uber and said we would be 10-15minutes late. They said no problem we have a 15minute grace period , we showed up at 6:01 and they said I'm sorry your 16minutes late we can sit you at 7:30. I said your joking , right. Nope, they held strong so we left. Two kids in tow after very long day, not the way to impress. I have been dining at top tier restaraunts my entire life and can say I have never have this happen in my life. Total joke! Hostess's were very rude to my wife.

This was the best sushi of my 55 year old life!!! I have been to CA to MA and everywhere in between. The Nigiri bites were amazing! The daily specials of fatty tuna, Japanese red snapper were fantastic! The tuna carpaccio was the perfect bite. Don't walk - RUN. And check out the bathrooms. Service was strong, and they made my friends birthday special.
