Tuome New York Reviews from The Last Year
Food was decent, a little overrated.
We Service was okay. The scallion pancakes were very good.
Very reasonably priced for a Michelin star experience, this
Very reasonably priced for a Michelin star experience, this is a cozy and unassuming spot in the East Village that is not pretentious at all. I would describe this as American with Asian inspired influences. We had a group of 7 and shared almost everything on the menu (unfortunately they were out of the dim sum tower and we passed on the chicken and porridge but everything else), which is definitely the way to go. Stand outs were the rice and snow crab but I enjoyed the variety of items and flavors on the menu. Some of the dishes were rich so it might be hard to eat a whole portion of one on your own, but they are perfect for sharing. Service was friendly as well.
Came here since they've won Michelin 3 years in a row.
Ambiance is okay, the service was decent. They were so kind to provide a complimentary scallion pancake appetizer which was really interesting. It tasted like an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese bagel puff. The octopus (3/5) Octopus was a bit chewy, the flavor they paired it with was a potato cream with Chinese sausage bits which was very different Lamb 3/5 This was decent but it didn't justify the price point because it lacked the Michelin flavor I was looking for. Snow crab pasta 3/5 First time having snow crab, tasted pretty fishy, so I wasn't a huge fan. The pasta was good, but I wish there was slightly more flavor/creamier. Had high expectations for this place but sad to say it does mot justify the price point.
Visited Tuome on a very impromptu evening with a friend of
Visited Tuome on a very impromptu evening with a friend of mine and was treated to an excellent dinner filled with many great bites. Going in, I had been hesitant on visiting as the menu had very limited vegetarian options, but I was thrilled that they were able to make adjustments to the offerings and was able to try many of the dishes. The main highlights of the offerings were the deviled eggs which had a very crispy exterior paired with a very flavorful finish, one of the best bites of the dinner. The kitchen was able to make their crab pasta but vegetarian, using various herbs and spices, and was one of the better pasta dishes I have had recently. We paired the pasta with the mapo tofu side dish which was extremely flavorful and had a crispy exterior with a fluffy interior as well as the broccoli which had a great chili oil drenching the dish which was very tasty, both of which were incredible. We finished the meal with the Chinese beignets paired with a caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream which was the perfect end to the meal. One of the best desserts in the city, truly a great finish to a great meal. Tuome left a great impression, and I will definitely be back to try other dishes.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at a Michelin starred
I recently had the pleasure of dining at a Michelin starred restaurant for the first time, and it was truly a memorable experience. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality. Despite arriving a bit earlier than my reservation time of 9pm, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could be seated immediately due to the availability of space in the cozy establishment. The ambiance of the restaurant was nothing short of enchanting. The soft glow of warm candles bathed the intimate space in a romantic light, setting the perfect tone for the evening ahead. It felt like stepping into a secret hideaway, away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. Now, let's talk about the food. My partner and I decided to indulge in the snow crab noodles, and we also ordered the chicken with broccoli and rice as sides. Each dish was a culinary masterpiece, bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. The snow crab noodles were a delicate balance of sweet and savory, while the chicken was perfectly cooked and paired beautifully with the crisp broccoli and fluffy rice. Every bite was a delight for the senses, and it's clear that the chefs put a lot of care and attention into crafting each dish. The flavors were bold and decadent, leaving us craving for more with every bite. Overall, dining at this Michelin starred restaurant was an unforgettable experience. From the impeccable service to the exquisite food, everything exceeded my expectations. It's the perfect spot for a special occasion or a romantic date night, and I can't wait to return for another memorable meal. If you're looking for a truly exceptional dining experience, look no further than this gem of a restaurant.
I wish I can give it 3.
5 starts but I can't justify giving it 4 for few reasons as noted below. Food: very mixed feelings about food per se which in my opinion is most important thing in a restaurant. The squash dish with seafood was amazing. Complex flavors, tasty. Just great. Octopus was very underwhelming. It wasn't very moist or tender; whipped potatoes were not tasty and somehow felt heavy while being airy. Below average dish. Just tasted flat and boring. Pig out dish was just not good. Some pieces were bearable to eat while others were just soaked in fat and not very eatable. Pork meat tasted like chopped up overcooked plain meat with no flavor profile. Sauces didn't make it much better. Side peanut noodles were very tasty though and the side of lotus rice was tasty as well. Honestly it if wasn't for sides, I would have probably send the pork back as it really wasn't good. Absolutely not Michelin caliber. Service: only mentioning it because this is a Michelin star restaurant. Wasn't bad but again not Michelin caliber. While someone was always there, it just wasn't Michelin level. For example when asked for recommendations or clarification of the menu, a very brief response was given with no effort to explain the dishes. Water glasses were refilled almost to the top with sparkling water. Just small details like that. Nothing that actually bothered me: just felt a bit unwelcoming. Overall maybe I would give it another shot but nothing to write home about. I can think of dozens other restaurant that don't have a Michelin star but are way better. Sadly another Michelin start disappointment.
A great affordable one-star! Came in a group so was able to
A great affordable one-star! Came in a group so was able to try a bunch of dishes and the quality and service is pretty solid. The servers are very attentive and dishes come out quickly! Here's a rundown of what we got: -Complimentary scallion bites (3/5): These were complimentary so can't complain, but the bites were light and airy and came with a nice everything-seasoned ricotta. They were a bit oily for me, but was a nice touch. Appetizers -Octopus (4.5/5): Very crispy, just wish it was a bit larger -Quail (5/5): my favorite app! It was so juicy and tender, one of the best quails I have tried -Deviled Eggs (3.5/5): Great deviled egg with such a light and fluffy filling. Liked the crispy touch. Usually I don't go for deviled eggs, but this was one of the better ones I have tried. -Kabocha Squash (5/5): delicious! the squash reduction tasted like a hearty soup that warmed my soul and the pieces of seafood, especially the scallop, were so delicious! -Persimmon (3.5/5): I loved the persimmon itself, but overall was not too impressed by the salad Mains -Branzino (5/5): love love! The branzino was nice and tender and tasted so good with the chowder -Snow crab noodle (4.5/5): a decadent dish with perfectly cooked noodles. A bit heavy to eat myself entirely, but was so delicious and great for sharing. The snow crab was so delicate and yum -Pig Out (2.5/5): my least favorite tbh. The pork belly was a bit oily and not too tender, and the peanut noodles were disappointing compared to the snow crab noodle Sides -Broccoli (4/5): great! just a bit oily, but was nice having a vegetable on the side Would recommend coming here if you are looking for an affordable one-star!
Fantastic pan-Chinese restaurant located in the outer
Fantastic pan-Chinese restaurant located in the outer reaches of the East Village. Very cozy place with Hans Wegner like chairs and lots of brick and dark wood. Highlights were octopus with the airiest browned butter whipped potato, the breaded and fried- deviled eggs, and the pork belly which was cooked perfectly crispy, with most of the subcutaneous fat rendered out (why can't more restaurants do this correctly?) However, i didn't care for the accompanying noodles - they were a little undercooked for me. Chocolate hazelnut dessert was as beautiful as it was tasty. The food is really rich, so have come hungry. Great range of affordable wine options that won't break the bank. Definitely up for a return visit in the future.
(Overall: F) - Overall, despite Tuome being a Michelin one
(Overall: F) - Overall, despite Tuome being a Michelin one star restaurant, my experience was not positive. While the menu items do sound interesting in concept, I feel like there were technical inadequacies across various dishes that seem to miss the critical ideas of the original dishes before adding their own twist. To further sour the impression, while I apologize for the guests I was with that made very unreasonable requests to the kitchen, I do not appreciate receiving sassiness from the staff unnecessarily intejecting when I was attempting to resolve such situation myself. (Scallion Pancake Puff: D) - The concept of this scallion puff is interesting but I am not quite convinced this is a good concept because the beautiful layering of the pancake is no longer available; in addition, I am personally not a fan of the everything bagel and cream cheese pairing as I feel this is a bit too far away from the traditional Asian route. (Pig Out: F) - This dish is supposed to be a take on the Cantonese crispy pork I think, but I am not exactly sure whst happened to the pork meat because it tasted like they removed all the fat, shredded it, and then reconstructed it into cubes, which is bad because the best part of that original dish is the layer of crispy skin to fat to meat. Furthermore, the peanut noodles didn't really pair with this dish and was a bizarre addition. (Crab Noodles: F) - The crab noodles here were undercooked (much harder than the peanut noodles). The flavor is nice and not overpowering, but was disappointing that the dashi component was not brought forward more. (Lamb: B) The lamb was very tender and worked well with the chimichurri and puree for additional flavor. I felt that the presentational aspect was a bit lacking though, but perhaps to the fault of some borderline unreasonable requests of others within my party rather than the chef. -- Food: -1 Presentation: E Price: -1 Atmosphere: -1 Service: -2 Menu: +1 Overall: -3 F Insta/Beli: @amei_eats
Really solid food with great service! Nothing was bad
Really solid food with great service! Nothing was bad (hence the 5 stars) but I will say it wasn't memorable. I'm surprised it has a Michelin star. But nonetheless I would recommend dining here. The beignet dessert was phenomenal - the warm beignet with the cold ice cream and the creamy luxurious caramel sauce was just delicious!
Lovely anniversary meal
We had dinner here for our wedding anniversary and were pleased with our choice. We were running late due to significantly underestimating the travel time but the restaurant were very understanding and offered us alternative seating at the bar so we didn’t need to rush our meal and could benefit from the air conditioning! Food was really good, we both really enjoyed all three courses - a special mention for the goats milk caramel in the dessert, we’d have happily just drank that! I can also honestly say it’s the first time I’ve ever said “wow” after having a mouthful of broccoli.
