Excellent food!
I could come here and eat order after order of the croquettes (SO good), but then I would miss out on the tempura mushrooms-and the chicken-and the short ribs-and you get the picture… I enjoyed it so much that by the 2nd dish I kept forgetting to take pics of the beautiful food!

We went here after hearing rave reviews. The place small and adorable. The service was solid, not great. They keep the door open to the outside and it was in the 40’s last night so they put blankets on the backs of the chairs so people can stay warm? I’d rather just have the door closed. ??? Now the food…. Everything was good but there wasn’t one dish, out of about 9 that we shared, that I thought was good enough to go back for. The place was packed with lots of people waiting outside, so I seem to be in the minority. I think it is overall good but way overpriced.

The food was amazing and the flavors are different as they take great care both with the ingredients and the wood that they use. Portions are small so order accordingly, the japanese beer selection was pretty good.

The food is amazing and the service is great! Unfortunately we won’t be coming back. Paying 18% for staff medical care and a normal La tip means we are paying 38% above the already very healthy prices. I’m sorry but we will not do this again
Be the first to ReplyGreat fusion options, some unusual flavors and ingredients
Went for a dinner ( we were party of 4 adults - family). Service was very good. I would highly recommend to do it “family style” order a few dishes and share. All we ordered was tasting great, it is primarily Japanese cuisine, but fusion oriented / influenced. I would highly recommend this place for food, alcoholic beverages seemed to be a bit overpriced and we decided to pass on them.

This is a real gourmet and outstanding Japanese restaurant. The flavors and tastes are amazing. Its a very small place, so make reservations.....Christina, our server, was very knowledgeable and informative. Great service. Its not a cheap fare, so you do pay for the quality and the unique tastes of the small plates, kind of a Japanese tapas....the buta shumai, steamed pork dumplings are outstanding.
The grilled cabbage, in miso butter was sweet and full of flavors . We also had the tasty chicken oysters yakitori and a grilled sea bream collar. The noodle dish lamb belly yakisoba was fantastic as well!
A real treat for Japanese food lovers!
Popular Pace but too expensive for what you get
It seems to be a local hot spot and is very small so you need reservation, I advise sharing multiple dishes to enjoy the chefs creations but the dishes are on the small size for pretty high price points so the bill adds up fast. I liked the food but did not love it where I would want to go again, We has a party of 4 and bill was $250 before tip, ridiculous I say. Anyways small serving of seared scallop good but $24, short ribs also small amount $24 was tasty. The sake also very expensive $32 for not a big bottle ughhh. There are better choices to me out there unless spending big money on food is no problem for you as many of you are rich:) The food is different and creative and some of the dishes tasted really good but you will leave hungry unless you order a lot of the small dishes they serve.

The food you'll experience is a true japanese one with authentic taste.
All dishes are small plates to share (tapad style)- we had 2 appetizers and 3 mains.
My favourite were the gyoza and and the grilled yellow tale.
Cozy atmosphere, try to get a table on time!
Most amazing meal!
My daughter who lives near by recommended Tsubaki for my birthday dinner.
Most of the items are small plates, so that you can order many items and share. They also have an extensive sake list as well as beer and sake on tap.
The food was so delicious and plated beautifully. Each item was so good, it is hard to pick a favorite, but I was partial to the fried chicken with honey-vinegar, the egg custard with scallops, and the tempura cherry tomatoes and mushrooms with wasabi salt.
We also had green tea soft serve parfaits for dessert!
Can't wait to go back.
Fabulous Meal, great service and fun time
We went here for my birthday and had a fabulous time. Owned by Charles Namba who is the chef and his wife Courtney Kaplan (who runs the dining room), the restaurant provides fantastic Japanese food. The menu is composed of a series of small plates (this is not a sushi place but a true Japanese restaurant) similar to what you find at a tapas restaurant. They also have a wide variety of sakes and we had Courtney (who is an expert on sakes) select various kinds to go with the dishes we ordered. The sakes were so good that my uncle, who normally does not drink sake (he is a whiskey man) thoroughly enjoyed them all.
We ordered 10 or 11 dishes to share and all were very good to excellent. We particularly liked the sake marinated fois gras, sakura masu tartare, chawanmushi, and sashimi though you can't go wrong with any of the dishes offered.
In addition, the entire staff is both very efficient and very friendly making the dining experience even better.
If I lived in LA, I would be eating here often.
So so good
This place is fantastic. Small neighbourhood restaurant. Delicious and unique Japanese food. Great sale menu. Simply perfect. One of those restaurants you could go to time and time again.

We went with a group of six organized by Airbnb. We arrived as it opened Sunday night at 5:30. A few others were waiting to get in as well. A pre-fix menu had been ordered. In all we had 10 small courses, each served to be shared. We started with Sake chosen from a large selection with the help of our knowledgeable server. Then the food started and never stopped. First a few vegetable dishes, then chicken, fish, noodles, pork belly, little meatballs and several others arrived. They were all delicious. Well described and then gobbled down by our group. The food was scrumptious. The atmosphere lovely and comfortable. They cared well for a couple of food allergies in our group. Three yummy deserts at the end. This place has only been open a week as I write this and I did not see the rough edges typical of very new restaurants. I would love to go again. And you should go as well.
PS. We are visiting LA for two weeks and staying at an Airbnb apartment. Airbnb is experimenting with what they call Airbnb experiences. They are listed on their site. Ours was a group of six and we met Friday, Saturday and Sunday for about 3 hours each days and were taken to a variety of small local up and coming restaurants. It was a blast and nice to meet other food lovers. Try that too.
