Another trendy London restaurant with excellent good, pleasant atmosphere, restrain yourself in ordering
Yes the food is excellent, just don't overdo the number of dishes you order. The main dish roast cod with white beans and green salsa was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing!
Food was disappointing and unimaginative. Small plate of salami (not ‘salumi’ as on menu) looked boring and was served without bread. Pasta dishes we ordered weren’t al dente and nothing was very warm. Espresso was served without any sugar and tasted awful.
Be the first to ReplyFamily breakfast
The homemade pasta was excellent, I was tempted by a salad with porcini mushrooms (which I didn't see), artichokes (there was perhaps half of them cut in two), radicchio, endive, etc. etc. very well described in the menu (the explanation that the porcini mushrooms were blended in the sauce was missing), however excessively priced for the ingredients that were there. The cheese cake is excellent.
Be the first to ReplyAnother solo adventure with enjoyable experience
Another solo dinner, decided to go for another recommendation from a friend... N reservations, just walked in and got the last table right by the entrance... so cold... Seems that this is a vey busy restaurant and I actually see some walk-ins being declined a table. I ordered the Salumi della Rosa, which is absolutely fine... nothing much could go wrong there... and its a great compliment to the Sesti Montalcino. Next up was the pappardelle with chicken livers, which was hearty and feels so good in such a wind catching seat.. Finally, a a main course, I had the black Hampshire pork chop with lentil which was also very tender. The night was completed with a tiramisu as recommended by my friend. Surely another restaurant to be re-visited... and conveniently close to the Tube station as well... too bad it was raining that night when I left...
Be the first to ReplyBest pasta dish of my life
Simply the best pasta of our life - amazing with egg base and caviar mixed in. A real love dish and the quail with orange friti and aoli was a stunner. We also enjoyed the ravioli with trevise, ricotta and sage butter. Favourite main was the mackerel with grapefruit and fennel. Wonderful responsive service. Great bustly atmosphere and ended with that legend chocolate and salted caramel tart which I would come here for alone !! Great team. Our favourite meal here so far. Thank you for a magical night.

Be the first to ReplyDisappointed
Came for lunch yesterday with friends having visited before. Food was good enough but unremarkable. No highlights. Was told they needed our table 20 minutes after delivering our main courses. Toilets filthy. Bill was simply too much money for the experience. There are better places. Shame. It used to be great.
Be the first to ReplyCan’t recommend this place enough
Utterly obsessed with the quality of the food and the knowledgeability and hospitality of the staff. Truly an incredible restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous Italian food in Islington
I have lived in this neighbourhood for years but this is the first time I have dined at Trullo. Despite its location on a busy road it provides an unexpectedly intimate setting and the food is really quite superb with surprisingly generous portions. At a time when many restaurants seem to be using the economic climate as an excuse to cut corners, Trullo is holding the line in quality and quantity. There is a reason why this is one of the great survivors of the Islington restaurant scene.
Be the first to ReplyMake sure you eat before you go
Birthday celebration for 6 started with the news that if we wanted to eat some birthday cake we’d be charged £2 per person… a first for me. The atmosphere was great, busy for a Wednesday even in London so my hopes were high. The smoked eel arancini starter was the highlight of the evening as it turned out to be more substantial that my rather child size portion of fettuccine with garlic and mushrooms which took over an hour to arrive lukewarm at best and only after a nudge from one of our party. The staff were attentive and perhaps I should have spoken up at the time ( reluctant to ruin my daughter’s evening) but instead I just want to let them know that I could not recommend this place based on that evening. Many of the courses seem very over- priced too.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food, slow service
The t bone steak was literally incredible. It’s just a shame we were half way through it before the red wine we ordered 10 mins previously arrived. Service was generally slow and plodding. Starters were ok, clams and pasta mediocre, desert delicious This would have been a 5 star review with a bit more care and consideration around one of the best steak dishes I’ve ever had.

We had an excellent meal here last night on our first visit to this restaurant. Great ambience, delicious food and very friendly welcoming staff. Our waitress was proactive in asking if we needed any help with the menu and went over and above after overhearing us toast a birthday to bring a candle with dessert - such a lovely touch.
Be the first to ReplyStressful and overpriced
The food was good but the waitress kept looking at her watch from the monute we sat down, and the service was abrupt and stressful. Came here for a Valentine's date and we got asked to leave after 1h30 (and an £80 bill with 12.5% mandatory service)! Treated with contempt. took all the fun out of our dinner. Avoid.
Be the first to ReplyLovely small restaurant with well-prepared food
To get last minute reservations, we had an early-ish dinner, so it was not at all crowded and the atmosphere was very pleasant. The pasta was very well prepared -- pappardelle and the fettuccine. The tart for dessert was a delightful finish. Definitely recommend.
Be the first to ReplyAverage Italian
We had an okay meal here, but it was certainly not outstanding. The food was satisfactory, but over-salted. We had a crab pasta which was almost more salty than the sea the crab came from, and a cacio e pepe that was overly salty too. It's a pleasant enough place, but there are other Italian restaurants around that are doing the same thing better.
Be the first to ReplyWouldn't recomend
Had dinner at Trullo and whilst food was nice the customer experience was awful. For the first time in my life I was asked to pay whilst still eating as they needed table back. This was despite there being slow service with wine arriving at the end of the main course and empty tables upstairs and downstairs. It left a really bad impression and I would never go back or recommend. There are so many lovely restaurants in London that value their customer experience why would you go here especially when staff response to this complaint was basically tough that's just how it is.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced and basic!
A dinner date with my daughter who works nearby. Taken to our table down stairs, (I’ve seen bigger tea trays!) Cheap paper table cloths, poor quality basic hard uncomfortable chairs, cobwebs hanging from the pipes on the ceiling!. The menu was very basic and with no effort to make it easy to understand, we had to ask the waitress for explanations as we are not fluent in Italian. No European lagers or beers that I recognised on the menu, so when purchasing a £6 small bottle of beer from Market Harborough not sure about the protocol if you don’t like it? Do you exchange it free of charge? The starters were ok, My lamb rump was tough and chewy in parts, the accompaniment with it was sparse. The service was ok but not professional and I was not asked how my main course was during, or on completion, when you could clearly see half chewed lumps of meat left on the plate. To top it off a £160 bill that we could not pay in cash! “Is that a problem for you sir!?” Came the reply from the waitress. “No, but it would be for you, if my daughter didn’t have her bank card with her!” I definitely won’t be going back.

The service and food were really good. The thing that let it down for us (elderly customers) was the noise level, which made it hard to hear. It has the usual hard surfaces, and customers talk louder and louder to make themselves heard.
Be the first to ReplyConsistently gourmet pastas on every visit
Trullo is one of those restaurants where you have to check their menu every day to see if there is anything exciting and seize the opportunity which does not guarantee success because they are always fulled booked. Over summer they had these amazing chilled soups like almond and cherry, almond and melon but sadly I didn't make it as I didn't want to waste a visit if it was full. I had a back-up restaurant but it went according to plan which is typical. I have been eyeing this cuttlefish tagliarini which has been on the menu for a few weeks now. Before I tried it, I was wondering if it was going to be black from the ink but it wasn't. Anyway, it was definitely worth my visit as you can really taste the fishyness of the cuttlefish in the pasta and the cuttlefish pieces were so soft from being slow cooked. Some cuttlefish pieces were a bit mushy but still nice. Also from the close ups, it makes me wonder what those hairy bits are in the close up being herbs or cuttlefish. It turns out that they are anchovies which worked well wonderfully as you have that cuttlefish fishyness and then you get the saltiness from the anchovies. Again, a spoon is needed to finish the lovely sauce. Previously, I dined at Trullo for dinner in the summer where I had the Spinach Tagliarini with nettles. You could visually see more sauce on this but the yolk was smaller compared to Padella. As for the taste, I felt that the Spinach tagliarini tasted better than Padella because the flavours and saltiness were balanced and there was more sauce. I was still hungry so I had Tagliarini with chopped mussels, chilli, garlic, and wild oregano. To my surprised it tasted to my liking so I was really impressed and the taste was so moreish because of the lemon which was not stated on the menu. However, it appears that it does contain Almafi lemon on their 2019 post on instagram. The sauce was so good that I needed a spoon to finish the sauce and chopped up mussels. The only thing I was not impressed was the optional but not so optional donation and if you are a walk in customer it really depends on who serves you that determines whether you get to dine there or not.

After a bad experience here at the end of last year decided to give it another shot, given it’s been a dependable of mine for the last 15 years or so. Back on form I’m pleased to say. My partner said he thought the service was bad, I actually didn’t notice that. I was a bit put off by the weird house music, certainly remember more understated music from my numerous previous visits. We were walk ins on a bank holiday Monday and got the last available table, arriving at 6.30pm. This is a restaurant where you are advised to book. We got a free fig and burrata starter as they brought it to our table and set it in front of us by mistake, and when we called the waiter back he said to keep it as complimentary. Result. And funnily enough, turned out to be the stand out starter. Order it. Our intended starters were quail with garlic mayo (cooked perfectly, loved it) and a pear and rocket salad with pecorino that my partner raved about. We both had pasta as a main. Good, but not perfect. We shared Gorgonzola and honey for desert. The honey was astonishing good, I’m not normally too fussed by it. House red at £5.50 a glass, perfectly drinkable. Not sure you find pricing that keen in many good restaurants in London! Thank you Trullo for returning to form. Maybe just a quick quality control check on the pasta. And please, no more house music.

We really enjoyed it here. Staff were very accommodating, we asked to be moved into a booth in the downstairs bit which are very nice for couples. Food was a very high standard and reasonably priced. The Trullo sourdough bread was fantastic and pasta perfectly cooked. Crab tagliarini was very fresh, my wife wanted that and my cacio e pepe. Worth the short trip out plus very close to Highbury and Islington tube station.
Be the first to ReplyBest meal we’ve had here ever
Just got even better. Fabulous menu especially the burrata with peaches starter and the aubergine main. The hake was cooked to absolute perfection with the crispiest skin you can imagine and the bread they serve delicious. Got to meet the chefs who were young and excited by what they were doing. Service was faultless. The place had such a great energy.

Of the 6 dishes my partner and I had between us, two were fine. The rest ranged from average to poor. A pasta dish with over cooked pasta wasn’t what you would expect. Very ordinary service and not inexpensive made for a disappointing experience. We expected better.
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic and creative Italian food with warm service
Went there as a family of four, last Saturday. Really liked the creative menu. The almond soup was exquisite and the pasta (Fettuccine and Pici) was delectable. The pudding was great too - the tarts were crumbly and tasty. The service was prompt and attentive, yet not intrusive. The initial welcome was very warm and smiley - always helps when a customer feels welcomed. With cocktails to start with and a bottle of wine with the meal, the price of £50-£55 per head is reasonable for London and for the quality of food and service.
Be the first to ReplyDisapointing
We went to Trullo on a date for the second service on a Saturday night. 5 people took care of us and it was very inconsistent, some of them were cheering and helpful, others were inattentives and indifferents. I was told the menu changes often so maybe it was bad luck but the food was really disapointing, from the 11£ lamb lettuce which is really just some salad with cut cherries and grated cheese, to the 26£ porkchop with beans (coined Hampshire fancy in the menu, but it is literally a pork steak and beans on the side). I had the 28£ pollock which tasted like pretty much any basic white fish you could order in a cantine restaurant, the overcooked spinach on the side did not help it to make the cut, and the 'rainbow' shards tasted like feet really. The golden garlic pici was very tasty, but again it is 12£ for pasta and garlic, no fuss needed. The 15£ Dorset crab is tasty too, and the only worthy dish we had that evening, unfortunately. The 35£ bottle of Sangiovese with vanilla flavours was a good recommendation from waiter number 3. Our table was large and comfortable. However the tablecloth is a piece of paper, which is really okay, but I though that thick white cotton cloth would add a warmer tone to an Italian evening, not to mention London is chilly and there was a rather cold air flow from the opened door if you were sat on the way (which we were). Last but not least, I do want to do my part and donate to Ukraine's benefits, but i find it quite weird that 1£ more is charged automatically on the final bill. i think if the restaurant wants to donate, they should not transfer the responsibility to customers automatically. I am not gonna cry for 1£ but it does seem like an unfair practice. 144 pounds for the whole evening, it is reasonable for 2 people, enough food and a bottle of wine but i must say I will not be back for a while, the experience wasn't good enough.
