They charged 22% tip on the bill and service was very mediocre/sub-par. Customers should be able to choose how much to tip. One food had no taste and the other food was extremely salty.
It's always so delicious.
The service is always so fast. I love bringing visitors here or just going alone. And a chill atompshere. Definitely recommend!

not my first rodeo at @thipkhaodc in columbia heights, dc serving family-style lao cuisine... & certainly not my last now here's what we enjoyed: Khao Poon rice vermicelli noodle, red coconut curry, cabbage, cilantro with fried tofu, Kee Mao wok-tossed flat rice noodles, chili-garlic sauce, fish sauce, basil, bell peppers, onions with shrimp -- dreaming about the texture of these rice noodles & the Kua Khao Jaew Bong fermented chili fried rice, fish sauce, egg, basil, scallion and fried tofu

We were very excited to try this restaurant based on the "Somebody Feed Phil" show on Netflix. Unfortunately we were left disappointed. We are vegetarian and mentioned several times that we did not want fish sauce. However, the appetizer (tamarind glazed tofu) smelled strongly of fish, even though it didn't have any fish sauce in the ingredient list. My guess it was fried on the same pan or something with a fish based item. The Moak was very disappointing. Tasted bland. The Kapao Kob was good. The service was very unfriendly. The server was in a constant hurry (even though the restaurant was half empty). She shoved my husband's drink under his arm when he was turned away and didn't even say anything and rushed off. She didn't ask if we wanted dessert. All in all it was not a pleasant experience.

What a beautiful restaurant! The service was great-- I came here for a birthday celebration and the waitress brought out a dessert with a candle on top and even sang "happy birthday" with me to my friend The portions could be bigger, but overall I enjoyed the unique Laotian flavors!
Maybe some of the best food I've ever had.
Tasted so good, service was great, just excellent. Good the kee mao and the rabbit ice cream.
Food 10/10 Price 8/10 Service 9/10 Interior 8.
8/10 + Nice Bathroom The food here is good, it was bustling and busy. I would say for DC it's fair price but relatively more expensive them i'm used too. The lady serving water was very attentive and sweet. Overall good and authentic food, i'll come back in the future as I didn't get the purple sticky rice with my pork.

It's our third night in DC and we picked another restaurant featured in the DC episode of Somebody Feed Phil for dinner this evening. It took us just 20 minutes to get there from the Smithsonian American Art Museum & National Portrait Gallery where we had spent the entire afternoon, involving only 1 line of Metro Rail ride. The restaurant is only 4 blocks north of the Columbia Heights station. We ordered: 1. Chuenh Peek Gai (crispy chicken wings) 2. Piing with pork shoulder 3. Gaeng Phet (noodle in red curry sauce) with fried tofu which same with a side of rice. My husband is very sentine to fish sauce and we don't like the flavour nor the aroma of it. He said he could taste fish sauce in the marinade for the chicken wings. However, it must have been really mild as I didn't notice it until he mentioned it and I rather quite enjoyed every bite of it. The star tonight for me would be the red curry dish with fried tofu and rice noodle. The side salad with green onion gave an added aromatic punch to the richness of the creamy curry. My husband's favourite was the grilled pork shoulder. The flavours were rich and bold and balanced perfectly with steamed sticky rice. We have to thank Phil Rosenthal for introducing us to Laotian food.
The food was pretty underwhelming.
Huge portions but it only kept me wondering when it would ever end. :( service was fine, loud and echoey inside. Music was super weird... we were surprised at what we got given the raving reviews. So far DC has met our expectations except for this place. We got a chicken laab that everyone raved about, and also a coconut curry that just tasted of tamerind. If you are visiting DC, maybe don't bother with this one.
My favorite Asian restaurant in the area.
Also, most dishes are pretty damn good and service is pretty fast and overall good.

Very great experience! The food was amazing and service was super speedy. I went on a relatively busy Wednesday night with a few friends and we ordered the Chuenh Taohu (tofu app) Chicken Laab, Kua Mee Viengchanh (fried noodles) and Kua Khao Jaew Bong (fried rice) all to share. They were all hits! All the dishes were super flavorful and packed a punch. The tofu was sweet and crispy and the pickled cucumbers in the fried rice really brightened up the dish. My only complaint is that the fried rice was on the salty side. Besides that, everything was fantastic! 10/10 will be going back!

Thip Khao was a small inconspicuous place from the outside but upon entering it was packed and full of life. Parking was a bit difficult and ended up parking a few blocks away after some circling. There were lots of vegetarian options. I got the Khao Poon and it was so flavorful and the tofu was a nice added crispiness to the otherwise soupy dish! The service was quick and efficient. I would definitely go back to try some more items on the menu!
Absolutely loved my experience here.
Food, service, and ambiance were all 5/5. I got the catfish moak and the green curry sauce on it was heavenly, so flavorful and delicious with the sticky rice. I can't wait to go back and try more menu items!

Absolutely love Thip Khao! The food, service, ambiance is all spot on. So many of the dishes hit the perfect balance of sweet/savory and sour. Recommend the ping, lettuce wraps with toasted rice and whatever meat you prefer, and the fried rice. The noodles are good but I wouldn't say they are worth as much attention as the more unique dishes. A neighborhood staple that is always packed for good reason!
An absolute favorite.
I crave the Nam Khao regularly. Everything else I've tried is amazing as well.
Amazingly authentic Laotian food.
We tried the Coconut Crispy Rice, Chicken Wings, Red Curry with Catfish and an Alligator dish. I don't remember the dish names but everything we had was amazing. Highly highly recommend
It was easy to make reservations on a weekday night.
My friends gave rave reviews of this place; the prices were quite high for what it is. I would recommend getting Naem Khao Huu Muu. It was delicious. The Moak was undersalted though it was delicious. The Muu Som was super salty and it honestly hurt to eat. I drank 2 pints of water. Thank god they gave 1 bowl of sticky rice to eat with this dish.

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
