I met a friend for a drink at the Wine Room before dinner, and it was a bit disappointing. Ambiance is cozy chic, but there was an unpleasant musty odor. The service was a little slow, and it took 20+ minutes for them to serve the Mediterranean Toasts. The only food we had were the Mediterranean Toasts, and they were fresh and flavorful. The issue was that the toast was too crunchy/hard that it was difficult to eat with a fork and/or knife. Given the average service for premium pricing, we probably won't be back.

This is my recommended go-to spot for Palo Alto locals, people who travel, and corporate social. During my most recent visit last week to Palo Alto, one of my favorite destinations because of the best University, Hospital, and boutique dining scene, I recommended this place to an Exec of a startup Healthcare who invited me from Walnut Creek to explore their product, meet their people, spend a day at their company workspace location, and show me some of his choices. The Wine Room was my pick! Ambiance: So cozy as usual, nestled with students, cute dates, and professional people in every corner sipping some of the amazing wines. We opted to go and sit in the inside library, the place which is perfect for hosting small friends and family get-togethers, and corporate socials, and have been invited as a premier guest for a top financial corporate San Francisco company. Wines: One of the solid wine lists that you can expect, starting from Napa Valley to European collections. This time, the Executive insisted on ordering a full bottle of red. I kept strong to a glass of my favorite Rose bubbles from Reims, France . So delicious, creamy, tastes of strawberry- just mind-blowing and transporting me back to Champagne, France. I chose a fine delicate pour of Pinot Noir from France for my host after tasting the Pinot.. I was surprised by the quality and the flavor profile by the French Pinot- I wish I could have some, with some bites. Apparently, my host wasted quite much of the Pinot, which he thought the wine was bad. 100 percent not! I calmly asked my host to leave it when he asked me to drink it up, leaving to uncomfortable silence. They have changing menus so best to go there and check out what they are offering! Service: Outstanding! The server kept checking on me with the needs and expectations. I felt relaxed. Sooner, he seated two additional guests in front of us with my permission, which made me feel elated. Thank you for your service, outstanding hospitality for taking care of a unique corporate uncultured silence. Will be back again! Cheers and Love
Be the first to ReplyI love coming to the Wine Room.
Its a cozy place to come and relax. Service is great, Eddie really knows about the wine offerings and explains pairings. Him and the staff aways make sure we are taken care of. We always depend on Eddie to make suggestions on wine to try and he never disappoints.

Be the first to ReplyCute and cozy date spot in Palo Alto.
We just randomly stumbled upon this place when we were in that side of town. The Wine Room has a bar in the front and a bunch of couches in the back. We tried a couple of their red wines, which were both great. It's the perfect setting for a date night.

This place was super cute. It's looks like a cottage inside and out. Upon entering this establishment we were told we can sit anywhere. There were two other couples in the place. We sat down and one of my friends asked for a second drink menu since there were 4 of us. The remark of the bartender (shorter, darker skin man with glasses) was we only have a limited amount of menus in an aggressive tone. So I walked over to one of the 20 empty tables and snatched a menu. We were greeted by another bartender a tall white man who took our drink order, and we proceeded to work with him most of the night until it came time for the bill. At this point this place was busy. So I approached the bar, and the first bartender who was rude to us I asked him for my tab. He comes back with a larger amount than I expected so I'm assuming it was for the entire table. I asked if we can get separate check now that there was only two of us left. He turned around without saying a word and went back to split the checks. He returns and again in his aggressive tone goes "who ordered the two Sauvignon blanc" my friend says she did, he took her card and came back. By this point this guy has rubbed us the wrong way and just put a bad taste in our mouth about wanting to come back here. He didn't say thanks for coming in anything to invite us back. The owner needs to have a chat with this guy about his tone and behavior. Sadly he did not leave a good impression, I prob won't come back, very sad bc they have my favorite wine and have a great selection.

Cute. Intimate. Feels like you're hanging out in your great grandparents' living room. Nice place to have a conversation and enjoy a glass of wine or port on a weeknight. Probably way too crowded on weekends and kitchen closes pretty early so don't come hungry. Pleasant experience overall.

Came here to meet up a friend of mine to catch up on a Sunday evening. It is nicely tucked away but with plenty of parking around. Felt safe walking around at night. It is a small establishment with cozy environment and sort of help yourself type of arrangement. We picked a corner place and waited for service and didn't happen. We walked to the bar but caught someone serving food. He was super helpful and picked a nice bottle for us and helped us order some appetizers. The French Chardonnay was super yummy. Crisp and refreshing. Strong apple notes. It went well with the cheese platter we got. It is a very small place and completely understaffed. So do take that into consideration. Once you have their attention, they are very helpful and nice. It was a great cozy spot to hang out with friends. Would like to come back again.
Be the first to ReplyI absolutely love this place.
It was raining the day we went and on entering this cozy place, it felt like we were transported to a cozy cabin. The sommeliers were very knowledgeable and we chose the Grenache based on his recommendations and it was spot on. We also got some hummus which paired well with the wine. A really nice date night place. I would visit this place again and again.

My friends and I stopped by here at 5pm on a Monday and we had a great time! It's a cozy spot with great ambiance. I will say the service was a little slow but the only people working were the bartender and the chef and it was packed. The food was just okay as well. I might be back if I happen to be in the area

Was excited to try this spot out for New Year's Eve but unfortunately we were refused service! I brought my service dog and the staff didn't believe she was a service dog because she didn't have her vest on. Are you kidding me? You can buy that vest on Amazon it doesn't mean anything. Hope the staff gets educated on ADA service animal business legality. Needless to say we won't be coming back here.

I used to love the Wine Room and came somewhat regularly, often bringing out of town guests. They have a lovely vibe and style and a good selection of wine. However I was really disturbed and disappointed by the service the last time I went. My friend's wine had an absurd amount of residue (I'm not saying I am a wine expert, but I have drank a lot of wine in a lot of countries, both natural/ bio and not natural wine and I have never seen something like this. This wasn't even a natural wine). When I told the waiter, he was really condescending (he called us sweetie and said "wine is a natural product" like duh I didn't think I was drinking a piece of plastic) and gave us a hard time about it for no reason. I unfortunately won't be going back here.
Be the first to ReplyMy group of 6 experienced bad service.
One of us had to go up to the front when we were ready to order and then again to ask for the bill. Our dessert never came either. Overpriced cheese plate too. You're better off going elsewhere. We left after one round of drinks because it was so bad.
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyed my time at the Wine Room.
I went there with a few other friends to celebrate one of my friends' birthday. The place was absolutely charming. Great decor, warm lighting, comfortable chairs. It felt like you were drinking wine in a cozy library. It wasn't too busy on a Wednesday night, which was really pleasant. Our initial server was also very kind, talkative, and informative, which I really appreciated. We ended up getting a bottle of wine to share. The wine itself wasn't my personal favorite, a little too sweet for my taste, but my friends really enjoyed it, so I was happy for them.My only critique is about the bartender. We were sitting next to the wine bar, enjoying ourselves, and right when we each of us finished our wine, he asked if we wanted to order anything else. When we didn't, he had our server bring us the check right away. It pretty much felt like we were getting pushed out of the bar, just because we weren't ordering another bottle of wine. The place wasn't busy, so we weren't taking seats from other customers, and I noticed other people were still talking and enjoying themselves with empty glasses. It put a slightly sour taste in my mouth.I still would go back since I enjoyed the place so much, I hope it was just one rare instance.

Haha so funny - two Mexican men (I say this for identification purposes) - server and bartender came in. I asked for a taster of wine and they were condescending and patronizing and said "really - we don't do tasters here" - overall were rude. Then, to a good looking woman they walked to the table and gave a sample - and to a white tall male they served well. How idiotic. Lol. Look at other reviews.

Argumentative waiter almost aggressive. My last visit there as I don't pay for being mistreated

The waiters served me an expensive wine by the glass when I asked for the most inexpensive red. Please check your bills before paying and report if they do this to you. I am seeing a trend in Yelp comments!

I went to The Wine Room with a bunch of friends and had a horrible experience. We asked for the least expensive bottle of red wine, and the servers proceeded to charge us for 5 expensive glasses of red wine. When I asked the servers why they had overcharged us, they argued that we had been unclear about our order and that they showed us the bottle. I made a Yelp account to warn other customers!

Gave us the wrong bottle and overcharged. Crazy that that's allowed

Intimate and cozy spot with couches and tables to unwind and have a glass of wine or more. A nice selection of wines to choose from.

A very sweet and quaint place to enjoy a nice glass of wine with friends. I sat with two others on a comfortable sofa in the back room and felt like I was transported into another world (think of a European style living room?? Does that make sense). They don't really have a huge selection of wine by the glass unfortunately, but have a greater selection (and pricier) bottle list. Definitely would come here for the calm atmosphere. However, would I spent $20 on a glass of wine in a space that feels like my own living room? I'll leave that up to you my friends.

This place is my home - or second home - there's a vibe there that cannot be described - the bar man - Blake is my guru - I've met many fine people there. It IS indeed a room, or rooms, the wine is first class but secondary to the atmosphere
Be the first to ReplyCame here with a few friends.
One of my friends was not drinking so the male waiter brought her a glass of sparkling water that she didn't order. The waiter felt that she should have something since the rest of the group of friends was drinking wine. We thought he was being nice. The worst part when the bill came the waiter charged her for the sparkling water she didn't order. So beware if they bring you something you didn't order make them send it back and check your bill. Their are too many other nice places in Palo Alto to go who will not pull a stunt like this. We will not be back.

The Wine Room offers a decent selection of wine that perhaps caters a bit more toward mass appeal than quality. I sat at the bar and the staff was super knowledgeable about the wines and weren't afraid to let you know how well-versed they were. It was pretty awkward listening to them interact with guests, which ran the gamut from indifference to borderline condescension. It's too bad - this could be a really great spot were it not for the awkward service.
