The White Horse Norfolk King's Lynn Reviews from The Last Year
Everything we expected and more!
Visited for lunch after seeing such good things about this place, and it did not disappoint at all! The food was 10/10, and the service matched. Recommend the NZ Sauvignon Blanc, the scallops and the lobster from the Marshside menu. We will be back, maybe book a room next time! Thank you!
Fabulous!
Lovely meal here and the service was just spot on, as were the wait times and choices, our waitress was called Jamie and she made our first visit the best So attentive offering us blankets when it got chilly which is a lovely touch when outside with your dogs and our Bella is her biggest fan as she thoroughly enjoyed the sausage kindly provided,as we had forgotten her dog food Our fish and chips was great and the location is great , all staff were welcoming and smiling but Jamie is a credit to the team Can’t wait to come back! 🐾
A great hotel
The White Horse is a very special place. Everything is high quality, everything works, the people are charming. The food was excellent and the room very comfy. And we woke up to bright sunshine every day.
Above expectations
Fantastic . Stayed in Brancaster Staithe for the bank holiday , and went for drinks Saturday. Ventured back lunch time Sunday with the kids and stayed until 6.30pm. Setting was superb ( especially from the marsh side where we ended up ). Food. Harissa Oyster mushroom . One of the most delicious meals I have ever had . Pesto, Harissa and spices ….gorgeous . Seafood platter , fresh as you get . Dry age burger was Michelin star . Washed down with Adder cider and Cruzcampo , was a real treat for us . Staff were attentive , polite and treated us 1st class , really made our day . Couldn’t fault the visit . We heard that it was a bit snooty , but we didn’t feel that at all , really great day . Will definitely venture back . Thanks WH
Great sunday lunch
Relaxing Sunday afternoon at the White Horse, we admired the fabulous view overlooking the marsh at high tide while enjoying a late lunch , the food was excellent and the service friendly and efficient One of our favourite places to go and we are never disappointed, well done !
Birthday celebration.
We were here to celebrate my wife’s birthday and in all honesty we could not have chosen a better venue. The staff were all friendly, helpful and attentive, our room was superb and the food in the restaurant was fabulous. Indeed, little extra touches made by the restaurant/staff for our evening meal made for a perfect celebration. We could not rate this hotel/restaurant more highly and will certainly be returning in the future.
Superb stopover
The perfect stopover. We only wish we lived near enough to say we would visit the White Horse very often. A friendly welcome, a delightful chalet room, comfortable beds, a superb shower - what a way to begin. We enjoyed a drink in the bar with cheerful staff and had an excellent meal in the dining room served by most pleasant and knowledgable waiters. The view from the dining area is idyllic - peaceful as well as beautiful. The White Horse is a dog friendly inn but that aspect is so well managed that guests without dogs are in no way inconvenienced. It is important to know that. The following evening we stayed in another Norfolk inn where dogs took priority. We did have one grumble, my cooked breakfast was all but cold by the time it arrived. A mention to staff and it was removed from the bill without question.Thank you. and thank you to Kinga, what a wonderful receptionist.
Another great stay, drink & dining experience at the fabulous White Horse
Back again after 3 months for yet another fabulous experience. Everything about our stay was fabulous. Thanks Rosie for help with the booking. Every time we visit we can't wait to return as each time is as good as the last. We had a great marsh/sea view room, immaculately clean & spacious with superb views. The White Horse is always very busy & bookings are essential for a table. We booked late & the restaurant was full (no surprise for a Saturday) but reception had already reserved us a table in the bar which was good. After several delightful pints of my favourite beer Wherry, we enjoyed the usual high standard meal & of course how could I resist the best on the coast fish & chips! My wife had the crab which was also great. But apart from all this, the 1 thing that always makes the White Horse stand out from other places is the excellent staff who give exceptionally high levels of service constantly, whilst being busy all the time. At other places you have to wait for someone to appear at the bar, not here, even when busy & a queue forms it doesn't last long as there are several staff to serve. The same is the case for food service; staff constantly check back to the table e.g. "is everything ok" "can I get you anything else" etc just amazing service. Our review is always 5 star. Hope to be back soon.
Birthday visit
An amazing experience from start to finish. Third time here and it never disappoints First time trying the marshside restaurant and it really lived up to its reputation We had dinner in the restaurant, super food salad & scallops for starters were amazing, loved the puffed rice with the scallops. For mains we had the duo of lamb (pink) and sirloin absolutely amazing I loved the little mini “shepherd pie” for the shoulder. Puddings were chocolate cheesecake and cheese with a lovely birthday surprise of petit fours We stayed in room 7 (garden room) our little Dora loved all the little extras laid on for her, dog blanket, throw, water bowl & homemade dog treats Service amazing food amazing setting amazing. Definitely be back
Comfortable- relaxing- value for money.
We arrived on a Sunday afternoon- room ready and efficient greeting from reception. Room was really lovely. Big, very well furnished, relaxing colours, well equipped bathroom with beautiful creams and lotions. Very quiet at night- we had inland view room 12- bed sooooo comfy had a brilliant nights sleep! Breakfast was big- I have deducted a point as plate was only Luke warm and breakfast got cold quite quickly:( overall a lovely stay- well done everyone!
Good but could do better
We had lunch in the restaurant for my birthday. The view over the Saltings is great and the day was windy but fairly warm and sunny,My friend had the chicken liver parfait and i had the scallops in masala sauce. Both were good. For mains my friend had the Seafood Grill and i had the Pan Roasted Hake.Again, both were good but we felt the portions were a bit on the small side.We padded it out with some fries which were excellent. We followed on with one portion of petit fours which were ok.Drinks were soft drinks.Overall, the venue is good, the service was good but our main criticism was the slightly underwhelming portions
Beautiful food, great service and plenty of GF options, too!
Wasn’t the most local for us in an evening, but we visited twice in 4 days, which I think says it all. Some great seafood options, along with steak etc for those that want something else. I had the grilled platter on the first night, the fish of the day on the second visit. Both times I had the panna cotta for dessert, which was excellent No issues with me as a GF diner, with lots of the right questions asked before and during the meal. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
Just Lovely
I visited The White Horse on the Thursday before the Easter weekend, as part of a solo trip to North Norfolk. I’d had friends rave about this place so I was very excited to try it out. Safe to say, I was not disappointed! I had the ham hock crumpet to start, just lovely. Steak for my mains, which was cooked beautifully. The local cheeses on the cheese board were great. The atmosphere was extremely relaxing and pleasant. The conservatory overlooks the marshes, I’d definitely recommend getting a table in this location. Unfortunately I didn’t grab the name of the waitress who served me, however she was lovely and attentive. (Ps - go on that solo dinner date!) I will definitely be back.
Great Oysters, shame about the waiter
Enjoyed lunch in the bar with our dogs. Food was good and loved the oysters. In a great location. Slightly marred by the “chippy” attitude of the waiter. If he can’t professionally handle the level of business in March then the summer will blow his brains!!
Lovely location
We stayed for one night in a garden room for a birthday celebration. We took our dog who was very well catered for in the room with a blanket, towel, bowl and treats, however dogs are not allowed in the lovely dining room. We knew this before we went, but it is big negative as you do feel like you’re in the “cheap seats”. The bar area is ok, but ultimately you’re paying restaurant prices to sit in a pub. There is a bar menu, but sadly no vegetarian option so my only choice was from the restaurant menu. The food we had was good, although the steak was drowning in rocket, which felt like a bit of a filler. Service friendly and fairly swift, although sometimes the bar area felt a bit understaffed (I suspect most are in the lovely restaurant!). We had clearly stated we had a dog when we booked, but our dinner reservation had originally been put in the restaurant which we couldn’t use (see above!), hence had to be squeezed into the bar at a later time, which was also a bit annoying. I was also not made aware of the £15 charge for dogs, which I have no problem paying (my Labrador sheds a lot of fur!), however this wasn’t mentioned at time of booking and just added to my bill and by this time I already felt we paid a penalty for bringing our dog. I appreciate not everyone loves dogs, however the main restaurant is large and could easily be sectioned to have a couple of dog tables for residents. Breakfast was good, but I’m not sure we’d return as it just didn’t feel great value for money at over £300 for dinner bed and breakfast with a one course dinner with soft drinks and a few nibbles as a starter for two people. The location is beautiful and if you are dogless, you will love it!
