A great spot for a more tucked away dinner in Georgetown
The Sovereign is a great place to go for a more quiet dinner in Georgetown/ D.C. area. My burger was a 10/10, and I would recommend getting it. Very nice waiters too. However, they now only take guests who can present covid vaccination card. Something to consider.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing Brunch Experience
We went to The Sovereignin Georgetown at the recommendation of some friends for brunch today and needless to say, it was underwhelming to put it politely.
First, our waiter, who was by far the low point of the afternoon, took our order for an appetizer while we waited for the other two folks. For what it's worth, he never brought it the entire meal (we ordered the smokey blue tartine which looked good, but we would never get the chance to find out). Next, I ordered coffee which did come, however, when I asked for a spoon to stir the cream in the coffee, it took 25 minutes which at that point, the coffee was cold.
Our other friend couple showed up and shortly thereafter, we ordered our food. I had the Hash andalousie, which the waiter assured me was a large portion. Again, it was not. While it had a nice taste profile, the size of the meal ended up with me having to go to a nearby bakery to get something else to eat. Our friends asked for ketchup for their meal (one had an omelette and the other had a dish which also had potatoes), the ketchup did not come until the meal was over. Throughout the entire meal, it was almost if our waiter went out of his way to not serve us. It's one thing leaving the establishment hungry, it's another not even getting a chance to get more food because someone was absentminded enough to never bring it. Further, his excuse was that it was the bar's fault? I didn't know the bar brought over ketchup and appetizers or, in our case, neglecting to.
We will not be back, one of the poorer dining experiences in Georgetown. Frustrating as while the space itself is pretty nice and quaint, the service was terrible.
Beer and Burger Afficiando Must Do
While visiting my son in DC, we went to the Sovereign. Due to its proximity to Georgetown University and the young population inside, I was epecting fairly basic fare. Silly me. The beer menu was crazy extensive and sophisticated. The food was over the top wonderful. The Sovereign burger was decadent, with oozing cheese and carmelized onions and quality beef. Service was swift, informed and pleasant. Only complaint is that the lively venue is fairly noisy and a little challenging for conversations. This will become a standard for me on future trips.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed experience
Ordered a Belgian beer and the glass, $9 for 11 ounces, was 40 percent foam. When I complained, the poured the glass into a smaller one and became flat. The menu (appetizers and entree) expensive for the tiny portions and nothing extraordinary. The processing of the payment of the bill was confusing with the inclusion of the 20% service charge. This is not France where the fixed percentage of tips is included no matter the level of service. The service was okay as the waiters were trying their best, but they had to go back to management for answers.

Just didn't love this place. Indifferent wait service, menu was limited to flatbread pizza or burger. I had the burger, it was OK but very basic, not much better than Burger King. The menu didn't even show soft drinks, but I asked if they had Diet Coke, and we delivered a Diet Coke in an 8-ounce bottle. OK place, just a bit hipster-ish for my taste.

Huge selection of local and other beers, great deals on halves, and very friendly service. Tastefully decorated, including the path leading to the place
Be the first to ReplyHidden, Dark but Good
We stumbled across this restaurant while looking for a restaurant that didn’t have an hour wait before a show. We were seated immediately at the downstairs bar where it was dark. The bar had small dim lamps but use your cellphone light to read the menu if you are of a certain mature age with vision challenges. Food was good and so was the service once the bartender got caught up. This restaurant is in an alley so look for the fold out sign on Wisconsin and follow the path through the alley.

Was in town for work and reached out to a friend that lives here. She recommended this place since she had heard reviews. The entrance it’s tricky. We got a table upstairs. Great cocktails and mussels. Recommend.
Be the first to ReplyBest beer bar in D.C.
This place has the best selection of Belgian beers I have ever seen at a bar/restaurant in the U.S.
On top of the that, the staff is super friendly. The food was pretty good. I had a flat bread that was very good and mussels that were just okay.
I will visit this place every time I'm in D.C.
Attitude and dangerous seats
This was my 2nd visit and LAST! First of all the don’t sit at the bar unless you want to lose your fingers. The seat design swivels and grabs your fingers. I lost a nail which was crushed by the seat. I should have sued them! 2nd, the attitude of the idiot bartender with the ridiculous “man bun” is enough to give the place a “1”. I gave it a 2 since other staff was nicer and they have some good beers. But in general they think they’re special and there are so many better places. Go to Martins up the street instead!
