A great spot to grab some quick food before heading to a concert near the 9:30 club. The inside has a coach vibe that's perfect for working during the day with coffee, but once it gets dark, definitely better to put that away and have dinner with friends. I went with my wife for dinner and we ordered a bevy of things such as the cheese arepa, pork belly bowl, beef empanadas, and carrot cake. For drink, I got the Kentucky mule, which was def strong and good. My fav food item were the pork belly bowl and the carrot cake. The bowl had crunchy yet flavorful and tender bites of pork. The corn it came with was very tasty. Carrot cake was moist and perfectly sweet, just needed to be more crunchy with walnuts or so. The cheese arepa tasted like a pupusa, and the beef empanada could've had a bit more meat. The service was quick and they seated us fast. You order through your phone and can also pay on it. Super convenient, love this trend for places. Glad I was able to check them out.
Be the first to ReplyHad a lovely brunch here this weekend.
We got the cinnamon bun, coffee and cocktails while waiting for the menu to switch over to the afternoon options at 1PM. Fried chicken sandwich was good with savory toppings and delicious fries, pork belly was extremely rich (recommend splitting!) and very tasty with fresh corn. One thing to note - they did have a two hour limit on our table. Would return!

My bestie and I stopped in for an impromptu brunch and were pleasantly surprised! After living in the area for years, we finally were able to stop by and try out the menu! I can't wait to go back and try more but overall the staff and the food and drinks were great!

The Royal gets five stars for the meals it prepares, the presentation on the plate, the amazing wait staff, and the atmosphere that invites conversation. The Crispy Brussel Sprouts which included a squash mole took Brussel sprouts to a new level of deliciousness. Every plate looked beautiful with the balance of colors and textures. My friends and I are all really good cooks, but the meals at The Royal are beyond what any of us could prepare at home. The pan-seared rockfish was fabulous. One friend got the Grilled Hanger Steak on a bed of garbanzos. Who thinks of something this delicious? The Beef Arepa satisfied every part of my soul. My three friends and I agreed that we had enough room for the carrot cake split four ways. We all agreed that this confection topped with pumpkin seed granola and just the right amount of cream cheese frosting was the best we have ever had, and we've had a lot of carrot cake in our lives! Nice bar too, with a great selection of beverages. I can't wait to go back. I'll post more photos when I have time.
Be the first to ReplyThe grilled avocado is one of the best dishes I've had in
The grilled avocado is one of the best dishes I've had in DC, and their drinks (both coffee and cocktails) are consistently good. They also have some of the best outdoor seating of any restaurant I've been to; it is spacious, warm, and sheltered. The interior is aesthetically appealing and invites you to stay awhile. Points off for service -- their QR code ordering system is no good, and the service is very detached and very difficult to reach should you have any questions.
Be the first to ReplyThe food at The Royal in DC is good, with flavorful dishes.
However, the service leaves something to be desired. The restaurant uses a QR code system for ordering and payment, which eliminates the traditional table service. Despite having a tip section in the payment process, there is limited interaction with staff. On the positive side, the decor is great and creates a relaxing and chill atmosphere. The food at The Royal in DC features well-crafted dishes that deliver good flavor and satisfaction. Whether you're looking for a hearty meal or a light snack, there's something on the menu that is sure to please. The restaurant's use of a QR code ordering and payment system is a unique approach, but it can be disappointing for those who are looking for more traditional dining experience. This system eliminates the opportunity for guests to interact with the waitstaff and receive personalized service. However, the restaurant's decor is quite stunning and provides a calming and serene atmosphere for diners. Overall, The Royal in DC is a good option for those seeking good food in a relaxed setting, but those looking for attentive service may want to consider other options.

Brussel sprouts, unique coffee options and loaded fries were some of The Royals highlights! I loved the ambience and the fact that they make you unplug. Apparently it's been recognized by Michelin before and I am not surprised! My one gripe was that though ordering from your phone is fine, the service itself took forever for the food to arrive!
Be the first to ReplyAmbiance immaculate.
The cinnamon roll is not too sweet and so soft and fluffy. I'm normally a black coffee kind of gal but how can you just get a black coffee at this place? They have house speciality drinks. I got the open sesame and it was nutty and flavorful. Not too sweet! Got our boyfriends all sausage eggs and cheese and I can't wait to steal a bite.. A neighborhood staple!

I am currently sitting in the The Royal's lovely decorated restaurant enjoying good food, drink, and company! I felt so compelled to write this review as I am chowing down on their delicious empanadas and ajiaco soup. This is the only place in DC that I have ever come back to AND ordered the exact same thing. The food, the drink, and the atmosphere exceed all expectations. A true 5/5 stars. I just wish the morning breakfast menu was served a little later :/

The food here is amazing! Very cleverly crafted together flavors - we started with the ham and cheese pastry which was delicious. Perfect texture and with some cilantro paired with the flavors, was so good! The guava pastry was also super yummy. Being a Miami girl, good Cuban style combos like guava and cheese are hard to find and this place did it well! We got the rose latte which had just the right amount of rose syrup. The hibiscus cardamom latte was a little interesting, tasted more like a tea type vibe. The bubbles threw us off a little bit lol but nice! Love the vibes and the service as well, outdoor seating can be done completely on your phone for added convenience and social distancing.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect place for a cocktail and a bite.
The place is understated and unpretentious when it has every right to brag. We tried the grilled avocado and beef arepa from the happy hour menu (happy hour 3-6 Monday-Friday). The food was insanely good! We couldn't stop raving about it to the bartender Bryant. He was super attentive and friendly, and made us cocktails off the menu to our flavor profile preferences. The ambiance is intimate and cozy and a great place for a date night. We will be back!

New to the hood; but still can't believe I hadn't tried it yet.Spaghetti with Meatballs was great - except the meatballs were a little cold - so they heated them up again; no problem. But the meat sauce was delicious. And the salad that came with it was delicious and fresh. Will definitely be going back. SUPPORT this place! Nice nice nice staff, too!
Be the first to ReplyRoyal is such a cute spot.
We sat outside. They are also using toast to order your food and drinks and I typically don't mind it. I like the convenience of ordering through there but the service was bad. We got our water and then never saw our waiter again. We ordered our food and while the food was delicious we didn't get any service. We couldn't get napkins, or any condiments. It was difficult to signal someone. We ate our food, paid up and left. The food and drinks are delicious but the service has been spotty lately so beware.

A hidden gem!Having brunch w a friend, after 3 other places we want to try weren't open for lunch on that day, we found this place. Very glad we did!Street parking which was annoying but that's the norm in dc. They offer both indoor and outdoor diningWe got the avocado bowl- the quinoa added a good touchAlso got the pork- which is the best dish!!! So deliciousTheir drinks are okay. I wouldn't rave about it but we did enjoyed itOverall- great experience and would definitely come back

Food was pretty good, but the portion sizes left a bit to be desired. It was a great space to eat, though -- very kind staff, cool decor, laid back vibe... Cool spot
Be the first to ReplyCame here early for breakfast on a Sunday.
Plenty of reservations available for 10am. We were seated outside which is what we wanted. We shared the guava pastry and mago danish. Both were so delicious. I had the cold brew with salted vanilla cream. It was good although I didn't really get the salted flavor but it was still nice. For my meal I ordered the chorizo arepa and it was really tasty. My daughter had the sausage and egg. She really liked it. My husband had the arepa rancheros and really enjoyed it. My sister had the same and said it was excellent. I also had the sparkling passion fruit. Very refreshing.

Stopped by for a weekday lunch and really enjoyed - it was peaceful and there were plenty of tables available. Since you order and pay on your phone even for dine-in it was super quick. The hibiscus cardamom cold brew was fruity and refreshing on such a hot day: 10/10. The house fries were *delicious* and so flavorful, and very filling, definitely perfect to share: 10/10. The cheese arepa was crispy, had great cheese pull, and was overall delicious especially with the cute arrangement of slaw, salsa, and a avocado around it: 10/10. The grilled avocado was very yummy and a good healthy option but in my opinion not super special and I didn't taste any grilled flavor: 6.5/10. Overall I would highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious cocktails and food.
Love the outside patio area. Great happy hour! Loved the steak and gnocchi, will be coming back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place to meet your cool friends.
Interior is very cute.I made a reservation but messed up the time and arrived an hour early. They were very nice and found us a table quickly. The outside looks more charming than the photos, but since we came early there was no spot.I enjoyed the food a lot, my bf (who only likes very light food and somehow enjoyed the guava pastry) thought the avocado toast is heavy. I highly recommend the Chorizo & Egg Arepa if you like fried rice, and the guava pastry is very yummy, definitely get it.

When I walked into the restaurant (just myself) I asked for a table so that I could read... that would've been the hostesses prime opportunity to share that they ask that no one "works" or reads on the weekend. Instead, they wait until they bring out my food and tell me to put my reading away. I've never felt so disrespected in a restaurant - if you're in customer service there are SO many other ways to deliver that message. I will never be going back.
