The Resort At Pelican Hill Newport Coast Reviews from The Last Year
Pleasant enough but a touch disappointing
We stayed at Pelican Hill for a long weekend in the middle of a trip down the coast as we wanted to relax and enjoy the slower pace for a few days. Friends who live in the US, who have frequented Pelican Hill many times, recommended this to us as the premium place to unwind and enjoy luxurious surrounds. Loving the area as we do, we really looked forward to the experience. The positives were the staff - all very conversational, brilliant and personal service as you’d expect. The room was nice, some say dated, but to be honest we found it sizeable and comfortable. A few of the nights it was a bit cold so we put the fire on which was lovely. The toiletries were on point and we generally slept very well. The negatives for us were as follows: Food - really poor for this standard of resort. 3/5 maximum. I agree with other reviews who are simply baffled by the quality and finesse. It’s fine that it’s expensive, but it can’t be expensive and mediocre. The breakfast at the Colosseum in particular was just so dire that we went to Target and bought our own room supplies to avoid having it again. The tables were often all dirty and poorly attended, too. For dinner we drove out of the resort to avoid the food. Pool area - the pool itself is a wonderful shape and size, you’re not packed in with others when in the water, HOWEVER the loungers are all so close together, there is zero sense of privacy or luxury here, it’s like a spring break pool party with people all on top of each other. If you want a sunny spot for the day, you best get out there early, too. This is not premium. Beach - wow this was a waste of time. We were flabbergasted that the hotel would endorse use of the beach down the hill, it was honestly one of the worst beaches I’ve ever been to. The transport to go down and bags with towels and water is a lovely touch, but on arrival there are no loungers, nothing Pelican Hill… it’s just a public beach with a burger place. Admittedly the burger place looked good but we were so keen to get away, we caught the next trolley back. Others from hotel were similarly confused. Other guests - a lot of people use Pelican Hill as a day long party destination - I assume there are packages of some sort. These groups are disruptive and unpleasant in an environment of relaxation. To summarise, we are glad we had the experience but we wouldn’t return. It doesn’t feel like a good use of money to be honest. As European travellers we have access to amazing genuine five star luxury resorts which are set up for relaxation and a premium experience. As others from the UK have noted, this is missing here.
Incredible!
My family and I rented a villa at Pelican Hill for the weekend to celebrate my mother's birthday. It was absolutely spectacular in every way- resort and views were beautiful, service was impeccable- we couldn't have asked for anything more. The 3 bedroom, 3 bath villa was spacious and luxurious and the ocean views unforgettable. I have stayed at 5 star resorts all over the world, and I was very impressed with their attention to detail and thoughtfulness. We spent time at Crystal Cove beach and shuttle service was readily available. The villas have a private entrance, clubhouse and pool which make for an exclusive experience. My family had a wonderful time and said it ranks as one of the best vacations they have ever taken. Thank you Pelican Hill for making my mom feel like a V.I.P. on her special day!!
Disappointed
I stay here all the time. Sadly I have an emergency and have to drive back to LA because my dog is in the hospital. I tried to have them help me out with a refund or credit and basically they could not care less because it was booked thru a third party. I understand the third party would not reimburse, but they could have gave me credit for a future stay, specially since I stay here all the time, more like, since I USED to stay here all the time. Don’t get why people are not understanding of things that happen that are out of our reach.
Had an amazing time.
Truly fell in love with the views and amenities. The pool is massive and the food was delicious!

Luxurious relaxation
This resort is nothing short of spectacular. From the views of the ocean to the two amazing golf courses multiple pools and Service that is over the top. This resort is a must.for a relaxing weekend or holiday away. Feels like you’re in the tropics.
Perfect
The spa @ Pelican Hill is heavenly. The staff is exceptional. The treatments are varied & cover anything you might want. The grounds are gorgeous to take a walk & enjoy the beautiful views. Perfect experience. Even the waiting room has wonderful, healthy treats and is so relaxing and special!
This is a beautiful place.
We have chosen it for its location to celebrate our anniversary. Customer service was great from the very beginning. Kaitlyn at the reception has done everything to make us feel more than welcome. We've got a beautiful room with an amazing ocean view. Also, we were very pleased with a personal touch of a welcome card and a set of delicious chocolate. Next day we have treated ourselves to their Spa. It was great!!! Angela R and Anna M are extremely knowledgeable professionals. Lounge service was great, and the atmosphere is amazing. Here are two pools. Both really nice. But if you like it quiet, the "adult pool" would suit you better. The only reason I can't give this amazing place Five stars is the limited selection of the restaurants and a very short list of seafood dishes. Common! It's NewPort beach! And all they have is Salmon and Sea bass?! However, we loved lamb and tartare at the Pelican Grill. The manager there was very helpful and understanding. I have to add that every one here is super friendly and nice, customer services in general is Superb, 6 stars for sure! Overall, our experience here is more than great, and I would give them 4 and half stars.
My boyfriend and I went to Pelican hill because we have
My boyfriend and I went to Pelican hill because we have friends who work there, and we were told we can come by and check out the coliseum pool for a bit (we work at Pendry Newport Beach with coworkers who also work at pelican). While we were there, Courtney approached us and said we need to leave, as the pool is only for hotel guests. Which we respected, as it's hotel policy and she is only trying to do her job. On the way out, I asked for her name and she felt inclined to reply with a snarky remark, responding with 'My name is Courtney Wilson, would you like my social security number too? Feel free to write a review about me!' We were caught off guard and felt completely disrespected because we had no problem leaving when she approached us (again, we know she's trying to do her job). Her words and actions were completely unprofessional and flat out rude. As members of the service industry here in Newport beach, we know we will never recommend anybody to stay at the care of an establishment who employs people like this. We are aware how upstanding of a place pelican hill is, but as a part of the service industry and with friends who work AT pelican, we were very appalled to get the reaction we did without ever inducing that reaction. The bottom line is regardless of the situation, we should have never been treated the way we were. And as a top tier establishment, Pelican Hill should be much better with people who handle situations with the utmost respect.
I can't say enough great things about this property! I
I can't say enough great things about this property! I literally have had an amazing stay, Jason in reservations is a dream! He takes his time and makes sure he gets you exactly what you're looking for! His attention to detail is amazing! Upon check in the girl was kind and made sure it was quick, we arrived later than anticipated thanks to our delayed flight. Walking into our room was GREAT!! It was absolutely beautiful and the bed was comfy. The bathroom was great and the bathtub was amazing, literally so relaxing and the water was HOT! We ordered room service the first night it was hot and fresh!! We got the chicken sandwich to share because it was so late and it was tasty! The next morning we did Uber coffee and ordered room service, it was fast and fresh. I love how every single person you encounter is kind and helpful. I never do spa stuff outside of home and since it was a quick trip I decided to splurge. I got a collagen facial and would reccomend April time and time again. My skin was glowing when I left. My husband got a salt rock massage and left feeling relaxed. We went to the pool had a couple drinks and shared some chicken tenders and crispy tasty fries. Went back to the room and took a nap. We work so much and never truly relax so this was much needed! We skipped dinner and woke up early. Ordered coffee from uber and that didn't disappoint. We did go to the coliseum for Breakfast and one of the girls was super snotty so we left and went to the pelican grill. Fletcher was our server there and he was super nice and attentive. We encountered a small issue and Gerald was on top of it. When I tell you this will be our go to spot for future relaxation it will be! We're already planning our next get away! We're not into golfing but it's all around. We love relaxation and ambience. We can't wait to come back.
5 star all the way !
Magnificent in every way - stay at a villa! Service : The service here is unparalleled and should be the standard for other 5 star establishments to strive for . Multiple family members stated it was the best service they ever received at a resort. Often resorts claim to be 5 star but fall short in this arena. I cannot begin to describe how excellent the service was. Every member of the team we interacted with blew us away with their service. From check in to the front desk , pool , hospitality , housekeeping , food and beverage etc. A special thanks to the wonderful concierges Kiara and Eliana . They were incredibly helpful. Room: Stunning. We stayed in a 4 bedroom ocean villa. The place was impeccable and very warm and welcoming. It had Old charm and sophistication. All the rooms were nice and there were 4 bathrooms. The master room was incredible with breathtaking views. The beds were so comfortable I had some of the best sleep I’ve had in years ! The villas are very quiet and there is more privacy. Would highly recommend Property : The property and grounds were impeccable. It’s an expansive and lush property that is expertly manicured. We enjoyed many scenic walks and lovely sunsets. Although the property is large they make everything convenient. It was very easy and fast to get A shuttle should you need one. Food: I was impressed with the pelican grill. Everything we ordered was delicious. Very nice ambiance and of course great service . Golf: I don’t golf but I was certainly able to appreciate the beauty of the two courses . My husband played the south course and really enjoyed it. The T times are however expensive and it’s a busy course Overall a phenomenal stay . Thank you to everyone at the pelican and hope to see you soon !
Staying in one of the Beach View Villas this week.
This 3-bedroom Villa with personal garage and no adjoining units is spacious and super private. Service is impeccable. Bartender Colby at Villas Bar mixed us a few creative Signature cocktails. Best service is the Valet picking up my Tesla from my garage, charging overnight and delivering back to my garage in the morning... definitely VIP treatment! Will definitely be back again soon.
we celebrated here for my birthday for a few days it was so
we celebrated here for my birthday for a few days it was so fun. We got to stay at one of the villas and they used a golf cart to come pick us up which was super cool. customer service was phenomenal. Everyone was super nice and very friendly. my husband actually saw one of his old classmates work there such a small world. The spa was so amazing and relaxing. It was one of our favorite highlights of the weekend. going down to explore the place where everyone gets married is so cool. It was one of my Pinterest dreams. I absolutely love this resort and would totally go back again !!

They're in a beautiful location so It's nice but it used to be a lot nicer. Their decor, the food and the staff could use a bit more attention to detail
Nice property but not for me
I stayed for work at Pelican Hill and it was not the best experience. Everyone has their preferences. I tend to be pretty down to earth and felt like I did not belong there. Over the years, as seen in my reviews I have stayed at places from Hampton Inn to Four Seasons. I rarely feel completely out of place but I did here. Beautiful resort, but not my comfort level.
Luxurious resort
Came here for a weekend getaway. The resort was lovely. We had a fireplace in our room and my kids loved the bath kit that was delivered to us. Whenever we needed to go to the main part of the resort we were picked up and returned in a Mercedes SUV. The food and drinks were really good. The staff were friendly and attentive.
Prepare to have your high expectations met and exceeded.
Almost everything at this resort exceeded our expectations. The room was large and well maintained. The service was outstanding from the moment we arrived until the time we checked out -- even the housekeeping services attend to the tiniest details. The common facilities (main building, Coliseum pool and grill) are positioned in prime locations and enjoy spectacular views of the Pacific. You'll also be impressed with the Spa facilities that are included with your resort fee.
Resort sadly going downhill
Pelican has long been one of my most favorite resorts I have ever stayed at. I was there over Presidents weekend with my family to play golf and relax. This was our 5th time there over the past 10 years. While the sights and sun of Newport coast never grow old, unfortunately the resort itself is trending hard in the wrong direction. The fine dining restaurant on site Andrea has remained closed post-covid. The only option now is the Colosseum, which lacks any inspiration or decent level of service whatsoever. We waited 30+ min one morning just get greeted and get coffee going. It felt like Europe where you feel like you need to get your order in when someone is actually speaking to you since you may not see them again for a while [and it was very normal volumes, not slammed whatsoever]. This service issue was the same at breakfast and dinner time, and also felt the same at the Grill in the golf club house. Not to mention a boring, dated menu with nothing exciting of note. Quality is passable at best. It just blows my mind that for a resort of this calibre, sitting in one of the wealthiest pockets of planet earth, with countless exotic cars rolling thru the valet, that they roll out this very mediocre food/service situation! What is going on here?! Bunglow rooms are now feeling dated. The size and architecture still make up for that bit, but getting tired. We also had to call and ask for the room to be cleaned 2/3 days. Golf course is a well run operation. Easy shuttle over/back (2 min). They get a ton of play, but the views are spectacular and it is quality resort style golf. Fun holes even if it wont make any best of list. Poa greens were very soft and bumpy with the recent rains. I love the hotel dearly, it is one of my favorite destinations but this underwhelming go around may have us looking at other options next time we are in the area.
WOW,IT RELAX TIME
GREAT PLACE TO RELAX. IT A BEAUTIFUL PLACE AND IT THE BIGGEST HOTEL IN CALIFORNIA. YOU NEED A SHUTTLE TO GET TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HOTE.IT A GREAT PLACE FOR WALKING AND SIGHT SEENING. YOU CAN SEE CATALINA ISLAND. THERE IS LESS SMELLY SMOKERS.
Two Strange Issues
This should have been a 5-star review. Lovely buildings and grounds. Great room. Almost all the employees we interacted with were friendly and professional. Excellent food. But ... When we checked out, the front desk refused to give us a summary of our charges. Never seen anything like it. Felt very shady. We were told that, because we had booked through Amex, they couldn't provide a bill. This has not been my experience at any other hotel. When my wife called the concierge to request help with transportation to a nearby restaurant, she was told she could use the hotel's "private limo." When she asked about the approximate cost, they couldn't tell her. The hotel was a few miles away. $1? $500? The concierge really had no clue? Very disappointing.
I give this resort a "1" star review before visiting or
I give this resort a "1" star review before visiting or even seeing their website. HERE'S WHY: When u go to their site they do not have the standard OPT OUT button to click so they can't gather all your personal info. Instead they require you fill out a "form" and identify yourself in that way and that you do not want them to farm your data. Pelican Hill is the worst example of a business not respecting one's privacy. I was going to book a real expensive suite, drop thousands on food and bev and have a living-large weekend, but screw it. I'll go to the Ritz in Dana Point to spend my $$$.
A beautiful resort with amazing views and top notch guest
A beautiful resort with amazing views and top notch guest service! You definitely get what you pay for here. High end luxury! The spa is the epitome of luxurious relaxation. There's a large hot tub to pre soak when you get there. After that, the much needed post flight massage was pure bliss. Three dining choices await you. Fine Italian dining at Andrea, great Californian cuisine at the Pelican Grill and the Coliseum Bar & Grill serves up great food from morning to night. No matter where you dine, you'll have amazing views served with your food. Highly recommended!
Best get away ever, Pepe in room service will do anything

Great spot with ocean views.
The restaurant could be better. This place is expensive so bring extra.
I received a Pelican Hill gift card from my employer at our
I received a Pelican Hill gift card from my employer at our company holiday party last year and decided it was time to plan a "daycation" from Marina Del Rey to the resort. My girlfriend and I took this trip yesterday, January 14th. This was our first time there and little did we know how terrible our experience would be. From the moment we tried to pay with this gift card at the Coliseum Pool & Grill, to the Spa ending at the Pelican Grill, it was such a fiasco to use this card with ease. The first person at the bar said that their "gift card machine" was not working and was implying that we couldn't use the card. Thankfully, some other staff member chimed in and took the card to the main lobby entrance of the hotel to pay our bar bill. We then went to the spa and the staff wasn't any more helpful and seemed clueless as to accommodate using a gift card. We worked through that; however, the spa experience was not as relaxing as planned as we had to wait for this woman to deliver our card and explain that we would need to go to the front desk to pay with this card moving forward. At this point, we were just wanting to shake it off and enjoy the rest of our day. Little did we know, there was more GIFT CARD drama to be had. When we were seated for dinner at the Pelican Grill and the server took our order, I immediately told her we would be using a Pelican Hill gift card. She too seemed unsure of how this would work and said she would talk to her manager about this. Therefore, our dinner became uncomfortable as a manager came up to us explaining a bizarre policy for using a gift card. We were told that if the card had a balance, we could not get the card back that evening, I have no idea why using a gift card was so difficult as there was a dilemma with EVERY person we engaged with. When we got our dinner bill from another manager, who brought us our check (and why wouldn't our server do that)? She made it so uncomfortable that I just wrote "use remaining balance" for the tip as we wanted to just get out of that restaurant and go home. The waitress got a hefty tip of at least $300 that was left on my gift card. My takeaway from all of this was that we did not feel welcomed at all and the customer service was as just dated as the interior design of the resort.

I wstayed here a few days about a month or so ago and vowed I would write a review for an employee that I believe deserves commendation. On one of the days at my stay, I was lost and was trying to find my villa. An employee named Cole had recognized that I was lost and came up to me to offer his help. I told him I was lost and he actually walked me to my Villa, which was on the farther side of the resort! I was so grateful that he took the time to walk me there and not just give me directions, which I'm terrible with. On the way there he addressed me formally by my last name, made me feel special, and made me feel important. Once we arrived at my villa, he asked if there was anything else he could do for me. I didn't need anything else but he said "My name is Cole Cable, I'm the Villa Operations Manager, if you need anything at all, don't hesitate to reach out!". This encounter with Cole was the most exceptional service I have been given, and I have stayed at many resorts... I know it sounds like a small act of kindness, but to me it made all the difference. I wish Cole to be recognized by his superiors for going above and beyond for me, and I hope he gets considered for a raise or a promotion. It's resort employees like Cole who actually make a difference in hospitality. Thank you Cole!

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
