Good & Wine Knowledge is a โWowโ!
This was a girlโs night out for us as our daughter flew in from the East Coast that we will be back again to enjoy. We enjoyed how our Server, Erin, offered to pair wines with each course, telling us more about the winemakers and processes of the bottle of wine we selected. The caviar and crispy potatoes as well as the ceviche were fantastic suggestions. He truly enhanced our Mother-Daughter get together by creating a prix-fixe on our wine selection that was coursed perfectly so we had time to move to the bar and even telling us more about the Spa and Garden - now we definitely will return soon to see both. Thank you to the Pony Room for making our get-together special !
Be the first to ReplyExceptional Service from Young People who Care
As a first time guest, I was astonished to see how attentive the staff was to making my meal exceptional. Elise, Manny, Eddie, Yulia, and Carlos gave 5 star service that even exceeded expectations by making our table feel special. I will definitely be back thanks to them as well as the delicious food - the flatbread, lobster Benedict, aรงai bowl and Bloody Maryโs are a must-try as well ! The three of us left but not after Simon, the Food and Beverage Director, giving us a gracious impromptu tour of their culinary garden including their plan for the future. Truly my favorite dining experience to date so far!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food :: elegant service :: priced accordingly
My wife and I discussed where we could have great food for St Valentine's Day in an elegant atmosphere. From past experience we settled on the The Pony Room and were fortunate to get a reservation at fairly short notice. It was a perfect selection on a cold and dank day. Beginning with the valet service, the reception was welcoming and the hostess standing outside in the rain under an umbrella and wearing a warm cape seemed pleased to see us, Having been escorted across the open air patio more suitable for dry days (and a fireplace and heaters for warmth on cool days), we asked to be seated at one of the five tables in the bar area (which also a bar counter with food service at the ten, or so, seats) and were met by a beaming server who could not have been more helpful. The lunch menu has a broad, eclectic offering - uniquely with "Trios": each consisting of a half order of a main dish plated with a salad and a soup on the side. Having settled in with a bottle of a rarely seen Cava sparkling wine, my wife selected the Quiche wedge (on the Trio) and I selected the house made Kobe pastrami (but a whole order as it could also have comne as a Trio item). Given the full lunch crowd that day the kitchen was not the fastest and we had time to relax before the delightfully plated and so well sourced and prepared food arrived. Learning that there was no plan to turn the table we took our time, thoroughly enjoyed the food, turned down one of the luscious desert offerings, and finished with an espresso and an amarone. The lunch was exactly what we had expected and hoped for: elegant service of world-class food in an ambiance of luxury.

The setting outside and people are nice at the restaurant, but the food is ... HORRIBLE! The best things we ate there were the bread and the peanuts (yeah!) And they dare to charge outrageous prices on top of that. And $12 for a glass of non alcoholic OJ, please! We won't go back.
Be the first to ReplyVery poor visit.
The waiter spilled a drink and soaked the leg of one person and the shoulder of the other. The manager came and said he would take care of it. He only took off 3 drinks while my guests had to sit through the entire meal wet. We had 7 people and they had a mandatory 20% gratuity. It pained me to pay 20% so I paid cash $424 instead of $426 and tipped 19.8%. The waiter had the nerve to chase us outside and demand $2 more. I gave him a $20 and swore I would never come to this location again. One dish undercooked and one dish overcooked. Several moments of poor service and I could not understand why people like this place.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely spectacular!
An all-star upscale restaurant. The staffโฆfrom the hostess to the servers and chef, they were all so nice and accommodating with us. They made our evening so wonderful. We ordered the kale salad, lamb lollipops and the sea bass. Everything was delicious. We absolutely cannot wait to return.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointed! Usually
Very disappointed! Usually great, not today. Way too expensive to not be perfect. Order all wrong, just not good at all!!just not good at all.
Be the first to ReplyBad service
Had to ask four times for ketchup. By the time I got it the fries were cold. Very disappointed in the service.
Be the first to ReplyLove the atmosphere!
We met a friend here for lunch and were seated in the beautiful courtyard. The weather was perfect! We started off with cocktails and the delicious bread and hummus. Our waiter was very attentive. I had the Seafood Louie Salad with the lobster and shrimp, it was delicious! My husband ordered the Caesar Salad with grilled shrimp and he enjoyed it very much. After lunch, we walked around the restaurant. Every little detail is perfect! It is an amazing venue. I loved the Spanish architecture! I canโt wait to return!
Be the first to ReplyNice dinner, better cocktails, overpriced
A very convenient restaurant if you are staying in Rancho Valencia but I would not travel to this restaurant. The food was very overpriced. The cocktails were delicious and atmosphere was very pretty.
Be the first to ReplyDo not go for the food
Relaxing, low key setting. Nice Spanish guitar music in the background. Overall great ambience. Service was fine. Cocktails were good but I was expecting more. Salads were just blend. Peach cobbler was not refined.
Be the first to ReplyLovely Atmosphere - Service slow and inattentive
Such a beautiful space with large decorative water fountain and gas burning fireplace and beautiful landscaping. Just that service was less than attentive.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful Outdoor Restaurant
They have moved this restaurant to a space outside due to covid and have done a great job. California chic , outdoor seating with fire pits abs comfortable dining. We just went for drinks twice during our stay at the resort . Best margaritas ever! Service was excellent abs atmosphere was excellent .
Be the first to ReplyGreat dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner
We enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner here. The breakfast choices were excellent. I loved dining at dinner and requested sitting outside on the lawn. It is something new they are offering since Covid. They set up strings of lights, fire pits, canopies to sit under. It was beautiful wanting the sunset out there for dinner.
Be the first to ReplyImaginative menu, wonderful setting, but bad seating and service
We were looking forward to dinner at the Pony Room. Several friends and relatives had enjoyed dinner there recently on the site of the croquet court, which has been turned into a festive setting for outdoor dining. The area includes tables for dining plus chairs arranged around small fire pits. Strands of lights add color and a party-like atmosphere. Unfortunately, we didnโt get to enjoy this area. We got stuck on a table against the wall on a veranda by the Pony Room bar overlooking the tennis court. Perhaps they save the best tables for guests and stick those with Open Table reservations at bad locations, which has happened before.
We asked if we could have a better seat and were refused. We should have left. We will next time.
This started a less than spectacular evening. A waiter showed up right away with menus and offered water. The menu is one of the best weโve seen in local restaurants based on the variety of interesting dishes, from classic meat and fish dishes to Baja Street Plates (Grilled fish tacos, $27).
We brought our own bottle of a Premier Cru Burgundy and ordered two glasses of sparkling wine, a Cava. The waiter brought the water and later the two glasses of sparkling wine, which he upgraded from the Cava to a Veuve Clicquot at no extra charge, perhaps as consolation for the bad location and slow start.
Then, service went downhill. We wanted to order appetizers. Nobody showed up for 20 minutes. We flagged down another waiter to find our waiter, who showed up with two Burgundy wine glasses. He opened our bottle. We placed our order and the calamari appetizer ($20) showed up after 30 minutes. We highly recommend the calamari โ small, tender morsels in a light crust, with a spicy cocktail sauce.
Our dinner order came 30 minutes after that. The six small New Zealand lamp lollipops ($29) were almost sweet, with a light mustard glaze. The mussels and chorizo is an interesting combination with some 20 tender and tasty mussels in a tomato and beer broth sauce ($32). The mussels come with Kennebec fries.
The waiter checked with on occasion to pour our wine. We skipped dessert because we were approaching the two-hour mark, which the hostess said was how long we had the table. The waiter did forgo the corkage for the slow service.
Bottom line: we look forward to trying it again and next time will insist on better seating or will just leave.
