This was my first trip to The Ocean Club, a property I have wanted to try for a number of years. First, let me context my comments: I have been visiting Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts for 25+ years and am very familiar with the high and quite consistent service levels and quality of the properties. The Ocean Club, in a number of areas, doesn’t quite measure up to the normal Four Seasons level of property or service. Here are a few examples: • Never once in four mornings did anyone at Dune Restaurant ever voluntarily offer to refill my coffee cup at breakfast. With only 4 or 5 tables occupied, it would take 5 minutes to find someone who would refill a coffee cup. I would have received much better service at Denny’s or IHOP. • The main restaurant, Dune, is advertised as a Jean-George Vongerichten restaurant and he is listed as the owner of the restaurant on the menus. Frankly I expected some level of elevated dining. That is not the case. The food is competently executed but it is plain and uninteresting. Additionally, the kitchen has a hard time properly timing meals. Both dinners we ate there involved overly long waits between first and second courses. I’m not sure The Four Seasons did itself any favors outsourcing the main restaurant on property. Because of the proximity of the resort to Atlantis, it seems that they have given up competing with the restaurants at Atlantis. • The property is beautifully landscaped and while there I saw people trimming shrubs etc., what I did not see was anyone cutting the grass, which was 4 or 5 inches tall in some areas. • At the main pool, they were out of SPF 50 sunscreen when we arrived and, in spite of the staff knowing they were out, it was never refilled during our visit. A case of no one taking responsibility for an issue. • And then on our last day, there was no hot water. At 8:30 in the morning they had no idea that the hot water for an entire wing of the hotel was out. Luckily there were able to fix the system quickly and about an hour later we had hot water but it was an additional sign that the property is not being kept to Four Seasons standards.
