The Mexico Inn Penzance Reviews from The Last Year
10/10. ❤️
Visited for Sunday lunch 21/7, we’ve never been before but will definitely be back! The food was amazing; Roast beef was cooked to perfection with tasty veg and plenty of roast potatoes. All very fresh. My daughter had a kids fish and chips which was a very generous size, and again cooked perfectly; she really enjoyed it! Lovely pub with a great outside area, the staff were all very friendly and made it a really nice atmosphere. Would 100% recommend, we live in St Ives and will be heading back again to try the rest of the menu.
Great place to eat
Great food, fast service and a lovely atmosphere- we visited as a family of 4 for the first night of our holiday. The food was really lovely and would recommend. You need to book ahead as we saw them having to turn people away.
Nice place to eat or for a drink
Nice fish and chips for me and friends were happy with their selection. This is a small but welcoming pub with a quiet friendly atmosphere. We returned on another evening too. You would need transport to get to it if staying in Penzance proper. If you had been to Marazion (not easy to park) it might well suit as a stop on the way back, as when it comes to pubs I'm never sure where us 'emmets' are welcome.
All the Food!
Came in Saturday night with my partner and his son. We were visiting his son, who lives practically across the road. I honestly wanted to order almost everything on the menu! Nice sized menu. Other half ordered some tempura prawns and a cauliflower dish. The son had prawns and a pulled pork burger and I opted for three small plates, which was probably an over order but couldn't narrow it down! I ordered leek and blue cheese croquettes, falafel and a broccoli dish. All absolutely stunning. Service was very good, very friendly. Also the cocktail my partner had tasted really lovely. If I'm down visiting again, I'll be in there like a shot.
Delicious food!
Absolutely delicious vegetarian meal!! We had the veg burger (much improved!!) and the lentil and pumpkin Wellington - both really 😋 delicious!! Plus dressed leaves salad - nice and fresh and crunchy. Very nice glass of wine ( but very pricey - but that seems to be a Cornish thing - everywhere we go the cost of wine in pubs or restaurants are extortionate compared to London) Friendly relaxed service! Cosy atmosphere, perfect for a rainy Easter; however a but too bright lighting in bar area. Overall - 9/10! Thank you again for a delicious meal!!
Gone downhill
This restaurant used to be really good, great value, varied menu and delicious food. I know it’s in the process of being sold but the food quality shouldn’t have changed so dramatically . Boring overpriced priced menu with reduced portions . Drinks prices are sky high and interior noisy and chilly.
Nice dinner
We had dinner here early on a Monday night in March. Booked a table. Had deep fried seafood, pulled beef brisket burger and a kid's sausage and chips followed by chocolate pudding and rhubarb trifle. It was all very good. The service was very slow. It took about half an hour for the desserts to arrive and almost as long to get the bill. They took the desserts off as an apology, saying it was much busier than they expected.
Highly recommended
Excellent drinks and food, the Mexico Inn is a friendly, warm, welcoming pub which has a wonderful selection of drinks and a great menu. It’s a lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff. We visit the area quite often and the Mexico Inn has become a regular place for us to visit for drinks and meals. The Sunday lunch is also the best we’ve had anywhere, we book so we don’t miss out. Midweek, we’ve had the chicken curry, chickpea burger, risotto to name a few…. everything is tasty and well priced.
Check where you are due to be seated
The food was good, the staff were nice, we were just situated in a walk through area which was freezing, and had everyone coming in & out from the back area to go to the toilet which was the other side of us, or food coming from the kitchen or piles or spuds & Yorkshire’s coasting past us in large catering aluminium tubs. Not really how I want to spend Sunday lunch. Had to eat with my coat & hat on it was so bad, I get it you want to max space, but that area is not suited for inside dining.
Lovely New Year’s Day lunch
We enjoyed a fantastic New Year’s Day lunch. The food was great and the staff helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend
Gorgeous food
Gorgeous food with good vegan options. Staff extremely friendly. Bit pricey but good quality in lovely surroundings and you can take the dog in
Drunken brawling
Recommended by friends, we met here for Sunday Roast and sat in the dining area which is a lovely room. Food was very good, and staff attentive (as you'd expect for these prices) However, our trip was ruined by a drunken brawl in the bar area, highly aggressive behaviour and language from a man and woman which staff seemingly didn't want to address, as this continued for some time. I won't be returning, and wouldn't recommend for families in particular, very unpleasant atmosphere.
Friendly staff lovely food
A warm welcome, friendly staff and a good menu with a variety of options Food was delicious And nice coffee to finish
Great place for Sunday Lunch!
Went with my brother for Sunday Lunch on that last beautiful sunny weekend in Early October. We both had Brisket. Cooked to perfection with nice veg especially liked the Red Cabbage. Service was great. Will be back!
Successful early Sunday dinner
I went with my son on a very busy Sunday. They have a great selection on a Sunday. I didn't fancy a roast so went for a squash and blue cheese salad, followed by the best fish and chips I've had. Definitely recommend this pub, it was busy, great food and very attentive service. We will be back!

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
