This buzzy Michelin guide-touted eatery delivered great service and excellent modern British fare in a cool space. We made a reservation far in advance, which is likely necessary given the popularity of this neighborhood spot. Located in the bustling Leith district near the harbor, I recommend walking there if possible because you will pass tons of street art, green space, and humming bars and restaurants. Upon walking in, you'll find a cozy nautical space with rich navy, light wood, and white brick with a dry kitchen in view behind a shelf carrying books and pickling jars. Our pre-menu drinks - I had a clean and floral sherry-based cocktail - were all simple but expertly made. The a la carte menu is confident and concise, with just three starters for £15 and three mains for £28-39. I opted for the salt-baked kohlrabi salad with hazelnut, radish, and goat cheese, which was an excellent mix of colorful flavors but rather small. If I had a second chance, I would've gone with the more substantive cured mackerel, which looked delicious across the table. My main course was a magnificent venison dish of roast loin, deer sausage, sliced beetroot, a fried potato puff, and a black currant sauce. The medium-rare meat was perfectly salted, and the sausage was unctuous and hearty; all the grassy, tangy, and bright flavors came together wonderfully with a hodge podge of different textures as well. We tried two fruit-forward desserts the specific details of which now escape my memory, although they were both nice and not especially decadent. One paired fresh raspberries and blueberries with mint, white chocolate, and some variety of ice cream while the other was a plum tart with almonds. Little Chartroom has a really appealing casual vibe but the kitchen puts out some thoughtful and elegant dishes. Can't go wrong with an evening spent here with an SO, friends, or family.

Jet-lagged, exhausted two Connecticut Yankees looked for a place to grab lunch while waiting for our room at a nearby guest house. My genius wife looked blankly at the posted menu and said, "Might as well try this one." Might as well, indeed! The salmon preparation was delicious, and the local IPA the waiter recommended paired perfectly. My wife suggested sharing the elderflower ice cream dessert. She truly has a great instinct. With strawberries and slivered almonds bounded by two amazingly thin wafers, it looked almost too good to eat. It tasted better than it looked. I did say my bride is a genius, didn't I?Will we come back? I sure hope so.
