The Kitchen Restaurant Sacramento Reviews from The Last Year
Fabulous memories and happy bellies marked a special night
Fabulous memories and happy bellies marked a special night out. The thought and planning put into each dinner is noticeable and very well executed. I specifically enjoyed helping in the kitchen. Yes I got to play in the fire. The chefs were very entertaining but also inviting and willing to share their space. Apparently I under-salt everything lol You eat until you can't anymore but that's not what makes the experience grand. You might not appreciate each dish, and that's ok, but what separates this restaurant is they remember what you savored and bring more in its place. I couldn't eat two dozen oysters and poke but damn did I try. And the Lilikoi martini was nothing I've ever had before. I could retire on endless lilikoi martinis. Look forward to returning in the fall when they change up their seasonal menu.
This place is nothing short of amazing.
My bf and I can't wait to go back when the seasonal menu changes. We arrived at 1830, and there was a line at the door letting people in one party at a time. Once everyone is seated, the chef and staff come around to all the tables. After this, the chef introduces himself and the staff. He is hilarious and creates such a warm and welcoming experience. During this experience, you can walk about the entire place. If you want to help cook, you can do so. The hors d'oeuvres are set around the room, and you get them yourself. It's a 6 course prix fixed menu. The food is delicious. Things I don't normally care for were amazing. You can have as many of each dish as you want. We also did the cocktail pairing with our meal. We shared it cause 6 drinks is a lot for one person. Next time, we plan to Uber so we can enjoy all of them. Time goes by so fast that you don't even notice it. We were there almost 4 hours. I was skeptical about how much it cost at first, but I was blown away with how wonderful the evening went. This is a great choice when celebrating any occasion. Make sure you watch for reservations cause they are hard to come by and are booked months out.
I finally got to try this place after such a long wait
I finally got to try this place after such a long wait because this place gets super busy and have to book your reservation asap! Food here is super good and I love how you can walk around the kitchen before dinner starts. You can also grab food to eat while touring around the kitchen. You can see all the food being made from your table. Service was super good and I loved that. Alcoholic drinks were also very tasty. The best food for me was the oysters! The ambiance of this place was the best! The chef makes a bunch of announcements too. Also, after you're done with your dinner, you can get more food for free! They offer it because they always have food leftover and you can just ask your server for more food and they will bring it to you free of charge
This place is worth the wait and the steep $$$! My
This place is worth the wait and the steep $$$! My husband and I have been wanting to come here for years. Here is what you'll want to know: - There is no point to arriving super early. They will open the door right when service starts and will walk you to your assigned table. - The happy hour is amazing! Walk around the restaurant and kitchen, engage with staff and taste delicious food! My husband had the best chocolate chip cookie he'd ever had. They gave him 5! My fave was the hamachi tar tar. - Sure, you've already spent an arm and a leg just to walk into the restaurant, but don't skimp out on the drinks!!! We got a couple bottles of wine. They have great options and the "wine guy" is super knowledgeable! We ordered a few bottles ranging from $175-250 and we're happy as could be! - Try everything! There wasn't one thing that was just okay. - Go with fun people you can laugh and have a great experience with! If you're a couple, sit at the chefs counter. - They call out birthdays and anniversaries by table at the end of the night. My husband and I have been to a few Michelin star restaurants in SF. I can't wait to come back here, it's been the best dining experience by far. We had an incredible time. If you leave hungry, it's your own fault! They'll give you as much of any course you want.
My wife and I had not been to The Kitchen in several years.
We got a gift card as a present and waited an additional year for the new location to open. New location is great, but we did miss the outdoor patio of the old location. Pricing is a lot higher than it used to be, but everything is now and you pay for what you get. They have a Michelin Star and the food is commensurate with that rating. Service is excellent and the evening is entertaining. At $195 a person (summer 2024), pricing is definitely steep, but there is also a 22% "house service charge" to "cover operating costs," which is NOT a gratuity. So...that $195 per person is actually $245 a person. Then an appropriate gratuity for the fantastic staff. Yes, gratuity is not expected or necessary, but that house charge does not include your thanks to the staff for their care and attendance. I certainly hope this does not become a business norm, where the advertised price omits an obvious cost of doing business that is subsequently added on in the back end. Just charge what it costs so all your customers need to consider is gratuity. I think I speak for the majority of people when I say the advertised price of anything should not have to include an asterisk that refers to a disclosure that you're actually going to be charging more than the advertised price. The Kitchen is better than this. You will still sell out and guests will still need to make reservations months in advance to eat with you, even if you advertise without the asterisk.
We didn't actually get to eat here due to a series of
We didn't actually get to eat here due to a series of mishaps, although I'm sure the food is delicious. This is more a commentary of their communication and service. We drove four hours round trip to eat here, which my partner was extremely excited for. When we got there and parked, an employee asked us from their car "why are you here? Don't you know dinner was cancelled today?" a bit rudely. We went to the front door where a hostess said "we cancelled dinner, I definitely called you guys." We showed her our call history - no calls from them - and asked how long ago she called. She said half an hour ago. A couple of things here: 1) apparently the AC broke, which isn't their fault at all - but it'd be better to give more than 30 minutes notice for cancelling a dinner because I'm sure a lot of people are traveling hours every night for this 2) there should be better ways to communicate - a tock email blast? A text message blast? Because we got no communication 3) it was weird to me that people kept insisting we got called until we showed them our call history? We didn't get a call? I've already told you this - what's with insisting we have? I'm sure that people were just flustered and there was no ill intent but it was honestly a huge waste of our time and left us feeling not great (particularly because we felt as though the insistence they called was trying to offset the blame onto us). They offered to move our reservation to another date - but given that we don't want to drive another four hours just to not eat dinner we declined and asked for a refund.
I can't say enough good things about the Kitchen experience.
From the moment you enter you're welcomed by one of the servers and you have the opportunity to get up and roam around the kitchen and try the delightful appetizers that are available. The new location looks amazing and the ambiance is great. Chef Gio and his team did an incredible job. You have the opportunity to actually go into the kitchen and cook with the chefs and interact with them, really sets this experience apart from any other dining experience. From appetizers to desserts the food is exquisite! If you ever have a special occasion to celebrate, I would definitely recommend this place to try! It's worth it!
I went on Friday, June 7th, 2024 at the new building next
I went on Friday, June 7th, 2024 at the new building next to Bike Dog and Selland's. This was an incredible, unique experience from start to finish and I was able to surprise my boyfriend up to the point of when we parked (he didn't realize they had moved), so just made for such a memorable night. Thank goodness my friend Michelle who had gone before told me to pretty much fast the whole day, because it is so much food. I loved all of it and the fact that they just let you pretty much explore wherever you want is very cool. The building has no markings on the outside so you wouldn't even know it was there. My boyfriend just realized where I was taking him after reading the reserved parking sign :). This was in celebration of our 1st year dating anniversary (which apparently many people thought to be too lavish of a celebration, bc there were people there celebrating 20+ years married)...when they announced what everyone was there celebrating and got to us, they said 1 year marriage and we just went with it. Lol. We go in and were seated in the best seats (in our opinion) right at the counter front and center (I wanna say seats 11 and 12 or close to there). We then got up and walked around the the different parts of the kitchen, the dish washing station, the wine storage area...there were plenty of hor'doerves all around. Defintely go in with an open mind and try everything. Im not a fan of olives or sashimi, but that night I ate it all. We started with oysters, beef tartar, fried olives, etc. They also brought us dill potato chips and cherries at our seat. The menu, called the Playbill, had all of our Courses (Acts) displayed and wine pairings. It was so beautiful. We got a total of 6 courses, with an intermission oyster/sashimi plate and desserts galore. Also cheese board and coffee/tea service and they sent us home with homemade madelines. Oh almost forgot, they also gave us this amazing green avocado smoothie like palate cleanser after the 1st course. I will let my photos speak for themselves, but my favorites were the beef tenderloin with whipped parmesan cheese and the halibut plate. Also loved the bread and the panna cotta dessert. I kind of want to ask for a main course to go next time and see if they allow that ;) Next time I would not do the wine pairing...I might just order one glass of champagne to toast, but those little pours add up and I was feeling extra full and tipsy by the 4th tasting (6 total). It was also way too pricey for it (and they don't let you request any second pours of anything). The thing that really stood out to me was that the chefs and workers didn't just have to have culinary expertise but also be entertainers amd interact with us as well. That is quite a skill set to have. I also noticed any time I got up, staff would come and neatly fold my napkin (even if I had folded it). It did end up being a lot more expensive than I realized so just be aware of that (those taxes and the required 22% service fee add up) - I think with the experience and the seasonal wine pairing for 2, I paid a total of $880.64. Also to note, they ask you when you make your reservation online if you want to add the drink package, but they don't have you pay it until you get to the restaurant. So I went into it thinking my reservation payment was all inclusive (for $522.43)- but then later at the restaurant found I hadn't been charged for the drink package quite yet. Dress code: varied, but I would recommend business casual. I wore a summer dress and bf wore button up with slacks. This is a beautiful venue and you want to treat it as a special occasion.
**A Delightful Dining Experience with Minor Hiccups** We
**A Delightful Dining Experience with Minor Hiccups** We recently dined at The Kitchen Restaurant, drawn by its Michelin star reputation and the promise of an exquisite culinary experience. Overall, we were impressed by the ambiance, the attentive service, and the meticulously crafted dishes. However, there were a few aspects regarding the wine service that left us slightly disappointed. Firstly, we ordered a glass of champagne to start our evening, but it took 20+ minutes to arrive. At a Michelin-starred restaurant, prompt service is expected, and this delay was quite noticeable. Our 6-course pre-fix meal was paired with a wine selection, which generally complemented the dishes well. The first two courses were paired with a delightful white wine, followed by a red wine that perfectly matched the ravioli with red sauce for the third course. During the intermission, we were served oysters and tuna ceviche. Surprisingly, the wine pairing package did not include wine to accompany these dishes. So, we ordered a white wine to go with them, but it never arrived. Unfortunately, we realized after returning home that we were charged for this wine, which we never received. This was disappointing, especially since these lighter dishes typically benefit from a white wine or sparkling wine pairing, and it disrupted the overall flow of the meal. We then continued with red wine for the fourth and fifth courses, which was appropriate, and concluded with a lovely dessert wine that rounded off the meal beautifully. A special kudos to the dining manager, who went out of her way to provide excellent service. Since the restaurant did not have a bag chair, she creatively found a block for me to set my bag on. This thoughtful gesture was much appreciated and demonstrated their commitment to customer service. In summary, while the food was exceptional and the ambiance wonderful, the wine service fell short of our expectations. The sequence and handling of the wine pairings, particularly the intermission course, could be improved to match the high standards of the rest of the dining experience. We hope to see these minor issues addressed, as The Kitchen has great potential to offer a flawless dining experience.
Such a fun experience.
This wasn't a quiet dinner. This was a party with an amazing host. Everything was great. Food, service, atmosphere. 10/10.
It was such a fun experience when we went but it was right
It was such a fun experience when we went but it was right after quarantine n we didn't get the entire experience
One and done.
I enjoyed my first time experience at The Kitchen. It is fun and worth a visit. There was nothing that wowed me from the many courses. Although the dishes looked amazing aesthetically, the taste did not match the beauty of the dish. They are quite generous with seconds on any dish you particularly enjoy, and are extremely accommodating. The space was nice, but felt too crowded with the number of diners present, and the small space dedicated for the kitchen itself. I would say The Kitchen is very good, and deserves its One Michelin Star. It certainly is not Troisgros in France, but few restaurants achieve such a level of excellence, where each dish is meticulously crafted to deliver exquisite flavors, textures, and presentation. Three Michelin stars is on another level, where the cuisine is exceptional, the service is flawless, and the dining experience unique. The chefs at these restaurants have extraordinary culinary skills, innovative techniques, and use the finest ingredients. Last night, for example, the dessert tasted flat, and the coffee took too long to be served. Although my criticism may sound harsh, going out to dinner in these inflationary times has become a very expensive affair. I think it is wonderful that Sacramento has such a restaurant, and it will continue to prosper with or without my patronage. Kudos to the Selland Family for bringing us their family of restaurants, and elevating the palates of Sacramento Diners. The Kitchen is great for a special occasion or one time experience, but you'll find me just as happy, if not happier at Obo, their charming, affordable East Sacramento establishment.
I have no words! What a unique, amazing, and one of a kind
I have no words! What a unique, amazing, and one of a kind experience The Kitchen is. I went with my family last night, and from the beiginning to the end, the dinner was AMAZING. We celebrated my MIL's 75th birthday, and she had the time of her life--(as did we). Our server, Paul, was a fantastic addition to our dinner. He paid attention to every little detail, and we enjoyed his conversation throughout the night. There were a few items I didn't partake in, (the oysters and scallops), but Paul noticed and brought me substitutions THAT WERE SOOOO GOOD....probably the best empanadas I've ever had. He also overheard my SIL talking about truffle, and brought out some of the best truffle fries for us. I think what stood out the most to us was how in sync all of the staff is. All of the servers, managers, and kitchen staff (including Chef Kelly) all made their way to greet and chat to each table in between every course/Act. Everyone was so nice, and personable..and their efforts were not unnoticed. We chose 3 wine pairings and 1 cocktail pairing. Both were fantastic and were excellent additions to the winter 2024 dinner. Prepare to leave stuffed to the brim--because they feed you A LOT here. You can taste as you please, help prepare, and even help serve if you want. The whole experience is highly immersive, and if you want something it's yours. The dinner was a magical foodie lovers paradise, truly spectacular throughout every course. Be prepared to spend a lot, but the experience in itself is so worth it. We can't wait to come back again for another big celebration. Thank you again to all the staff at The Kitchen, your love and passion for food inspired us all!
Here we go.
The main reason we decided to get away to sac was to eat at this place. We never ate at a michelin restaurant before and was unquestionably the best place too. We are overly excited, what a pleasure to be here, best dinner experience ever, lots of fun, all their food was a 10, we ate 110% and everybody made our visit behind exceptional!!!
Let's start by saying that this was the worst experience my
Let's start by saying that this was the worst experience my husband and I had. The food was okay. Some items on the menu were a start light but if we didn't eat some things we were questioning why without knowing if we had food allergies or offered something else. We were called PIGGIES! And this I didn't take kindly. I suffered from bulimia and anorexia and it took me a long time to love myself. That made me feel uncomfortable and super self-conscious and the head Chef added to that how many calories our meal was worth that night. " If you are still hungry after dinner don't worry little piglets we have more but WOW!!!" The head Chef also greeted his crowd saying yay for a free night without our "Monsters that are thankfully staying home tonight " referring to our children. Idk if his kids are monsters but mine aren't and will never refer to kids in that negative way. We came home very unsatisfied and upset by the night. Me personally crying because of some of the comments. I do understand that we are not sensitive to other people but I didn't expect this from a Michelin star restaurant. We all know that this is not returned so please don't waste your time and money there here go to the other Michelin-star restaurants around Sac
Best dining experience I've had in a long time.
delicious food and great service, waitstaff and sommelier were really nice and helpful. I've been to their first location before and I really loved the small garden area..New location is nice too!
Wow! One of the best experiences.
This is just not going out to dinner, it's an adventure from the moment you walk in. Food was beyond amazing and don't worry if you have special dietary needs, they have you covered. The staff is incredible and made the experience very special.
Amazing! Worth every amount spent on the wonderful
Amazing! Worth every amount spent on the wonderful experience! I was transported to another galaxy through the food & beautiful staff. A must 1x a year or each season a new menu is created. Thank You to everyone who works there, you are magic
What a unique experience.
Will definitely be back again. Very interactive and made things interesting.
Overall, a great dining and show experience in Sacramento.
Leave your introversion self at home. You'll have to walk around, interact and meet random people and the Kitchen staff during your 3 hour visit here. It's fun and different from your traditional fine dining experience. And it's essentially all-you-can-eat. Basically, their motto is, we need to get rid of the food, so eat up and enjoy 2nds and 3rds if you have room. You want to learn something new? Then talk with the staff, take pictures and take scrupulous notes. And as for the food and drinks, well, they earned their 1 star for a reason.
Thank you!
This was just the loveliest freakin' experience. I brought my wife here for a (belated, because it takes awhile to get a reservation!🤣) birthday dinner, just the other night. I've rarely experienced such a warm, welcoming and pleasant atmosphere. It really was just like a dinner party. Every single person in this place seemed to be having a blast. The food was wonderful, of course (when I die, let it be by drowning in a pool of white truffle sabayon). What really made the difference though? The complete lack of pretension or stuffiness. This place is run and operated by a group of folks who clearly love the heck out of what they do. You can tell they're like a family. I simply had a wonderful time. That's it! I would happily go back and cannot wait for the opportunity. I am a father of two. I do not get nights out. I do not have a life. Not really. I am very thankful for the staff at the Kitchen for giving us another lovely memory and another dining experience to look forward to repeating. Thank you!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!
Worked so well! I was a bit nervous, but everything went very smoothly. purchased the reservation, and got into the restaurant seamlessly.
Love this app!
So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
