The Glass Onion Charleston Reviews from The Last Year
Stopped in for early dinner after riding the West Ashley
Stopped in for early dinner after riding the West Ashley Greenway. The crispy brussel sprouts and shrimp and grits were the bomb. Definitely a 5 of 5 on the star system

Every time my parents visit from out of town, the want to come here. My dad loves the shrimp & grits but I'm obsessed with the fried green tomato po boy. You can't go wrong here!!

I have been several times the food is always been outstanding not much ambience but that's not what I'm there for best fried chicken sandwich ever. and the price is decent.
Fresh local food - incredible flavor and value.
This is a somewhat hidden gem. The food is local, fresh and incredible. Hubby had the fried chicken sandwich and a "small" side salad. The sale was huge. Fresh buttercrunch lettuce, lots of cokes, flavorful tomatoes. Excellent housemate dressing. My hunny said the chicken sandwich was the best he ever had. Homemade pickles great. I had the shrimp and grits. Incredibly flavorful dish - dare I say the best I've ever had? Grits were super creamy and flavorful and now I have to find a bag to take home.
From the moment you step foot into Glass Onion in West
From the moment you step foot into Glass Onion in West Ashley, you're enveloped in a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels like a comforting hug from a beloved friend. The country diner ambiance, coupled with the quirky charm of the waitstaff, immediately sets the stage for a dining experience that's both familiar and exciting. Now, let's talk about the star of the show: the fried chicken sandwich. If there's one dish that's a must-try at Glass Onion, it's this culinary masterpiece. Just the thought of it makes my mouth water. The chicken is hot and crispy, with a golden exterior that hints at its recent journey through the fryer. Yet, miraculously, there's no greasy residue in sight--just pure perfection on a bun. Speaking of the bun, it's soft and chewy, providing the ideal vessel to hold together the succulent chicken and all its accompanying flavors. The buttermilk sauce adds a creamy richness, while the crisp lettuce provides a refreshing contrast. And let's not forget about those house-made pickles--tangy, crunchy, and downright addictive. Whether you choose to adorn your sandwich with them or savor them on their own, they're an absolute must-try. And to round out the perfect meal, don't overlook the house-made chips. A recent addition to the menu, these chips strike the perfect balance between crisp and chewy, offering a satisfying crunch with every bite. All jokes aside, my culinary adventures at Glass Onion have led me to explore over half of their menu offerings, and I can confidently say that I've been 100% satisfied every time. While the fried chicken sandwich remains a standout, there are other gems that deserve recognition. For instance, their shrimp and grits dish is a true Southern classic done to perfection, with plump, succulent shrimp nestled atop creamy, flavorful grits. And don't even get me started on the fried Brussels sprouts--crispy, caramelized, and downright addictive. However, as much as I adore their current offerings, I do have a humble request for my beloved Glass Onion heroes: Please consider adding more vegetable options to the side dishes. As a Southerner who's not particularly fond of collard greens, I often find myself yearning for a bit of green on my plate. Whether it's green beans, broccoli, or any other veggie variety, just a little extra greenery would go a long way in helping me walk out of the restaurant with a tad less guilt. Overall, Glass Onion continues to impress with its comforting, flavorful fare and welcoming atmosphere. It's a place where locals feel right at home and visitors are treated like cherished guests--a true gem in the heart of West Ashley.
We had read good reviews, but never took the opportunity to
We had read good reviews, but never took the opportunity to visit The Glass Onion until tonight. We will return soon! A casual atmosphere, the service was quite good. My wife enjoyed grilled trout, collard greens and arugula. I opted for cornmeal fried trout, Charleston red rice, and cole slaw. Everything was excellent. After sampling my wife's collards, I regretted not having ordered them. We look forward to a return visit as soon as possible.
Casual and fun.
We had the shrimp sandwich. Annie was our server and she was busy yet attentive. We wanted to try this restaurant but our timing was off so this trip to Charleston we made this a must. Chocolate peanut butter pie was

Have never gotten a bad meal from here! Love the beat salad, my mother loves the pork chops, I have had several different dishes including the chicken sandwich all great and fresh

Food is really good and I love the inside, it's very warm and cozy. Service is good and will always go there for lunch or dinner. Check it out
We were on our way to Charleston and getting hungry.
We are so glad yelp pointed us to the glass onion. The corn bread is divine - it's like a dessert actually. Mashed potatoes are super creamy. Fried Catfish and shrimp are excellent - well seasoned, not greasy/oily. The star of the show that no one expected was the Brussels sprouts - unlikely that they're still a vegetable but holy cow, when you fry them and toss them in cheese and garlic aioli, they become a flavor bomb!
The Glass Onion is a taste of Charleston
We landed in Charleston in the rain after a long exhausting day and our stomachs were grumbling with hunger. Luckily, we drove directly to The Glass Onion, about 20 minutes or so from the airport, for our introduction to the Lowcountry. While there are many great restaurants serving popular Lowcountry fare, this one hit the spot. The restaurant is located on a busy street near a Whole Foods. It’s not very scenic, but the interior is nice and furthermore, the food is the real deal. The servers were very friendly and attentive. I enjoyed the music playlist which added to the good vibe. We started off with a couple local beers from Coast Brewing and Tradesman Brewing which were pretty tasty. Maybe our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, but all the servings were very generous. I had the shrimp dip which came with homemade potato chips, pickled okra & cucumber slices on the side. My wife ordered the fried green tomatoes. This was the delicious beginning of our feast. Then my trout arrived, along with my wife’s fried pork chop. I also ordered a side of broccoli salad. It all was tastefully prepared and satisfying. We ended up taking a couple leftovers with us and the idea of coming back again before we fly out of Charleston.
It's predictable and locally sourced .
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The menu varies dependent on the availability of food
Great southern options
Pork chop was lightly breaded with a nice crunch, and the chop was moist. I was surprised to see that my ‘peas’, were not the green ones I expected, but black eyed peas, which were wonderfully prepared. Since stumbling upon this restaurant about a dozen years ago (maybe more?) it’s been a must stop, when we are visiting Charleston, and it’s never disappointed
Home cooking refined
A very popular place with longish waits and small parking area. It has homie atmosphere, almost like semi-private cafeteria with wooden tables. It seems that the place is not run for profit, as they can double capacity and increase prices (they do charge a 3% 'cost recovery fee' for ALL transactions) Food is quality good ol' Southern cooking. We especially liked the shrimp plate and the trout. And the Choc. Peanut Butter Pie is otherworldly!
good food, good people
i can recommend the shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, and beet salad from personal experience. the simple combination of the beets, goat cheese, and pecans made it the standout dish for me, but beets are one of my favorite vegetables. this is not to take away from the other two menu items i ordered at all. they excelled in their own way. the shrimp and grits exceeded expectations of this area. the mint julep mocktail is very refreshing, as well as the ginger beer at the end of your dinner. the menu that changes daily invites you to not get too comfortable, and be adventurous. lastly, the service can't be beat here. i absentmindedly left some very costly purchases from monster music and movies in the seat next to me, and they came running after me on the way out, to make sure i didn't leave without them. that was much appreciated. i can't wait to get back to charleston and try more of what you have to offer.
Don’t miss this place — you will be happy
Really casual and local feel Shrimp Po Boy was outstanding Cornbread appetizer was hot served with butter and honey— a perfect 10 Fried green tomatoes po boy — excellent

Southern Farm to Table Goodness on Savannah Highway!
Husband and I here for early dinner. This is like eating at your Southern Granny's, and she is one "slap your Momma" tasty cook! The Brussel sprouts were so good, the cornbread was grand! My husband's shrimp and grits was wonderful! I had the shrimp Po Boy, and it was huge! It has a farm to table fancy feel, and was far more reasonable than one would think. This would be a great first date place, and I think you could take a family to eat here, for a special occasion. I would bet this fills up fast on the weekends. We were there on a weeknight early, and it was fairly full when we left at 6PM. This is the kind of meal worth taking the time to make the drive to!
Excellent Dining Option in Charleston!
Excellent Dining Option in Charleston! We had the fried green tomatoes app and it was delish. The shrimp and grits was so good. I took some back to the hotel for lunch the next day. Friendly staff and excellent food in a mom and pop type restaurant.
Out of the Way But Worth It - Casual Southern Cooking!
This is a very casual restaurant that is away from the historic district. It looks and feels like a diner and the food was fabulous. We took an uber and while traveling thought what were we getting ourselves into but were very happily surprised. The service was perfect if not too fast!! The food was traditional southern SC food but with added flavors that were perfect. The shrimp and gits had sausage and creole tomato's making it one of my favorite dishes in the South! We had all course and loved all selections. On top of that the food is relatively inexpensive so our meal was much less than the fancy restaurants in the historic district. Well worth the drive!

Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

Give the best answerNewbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
