The Gamekeeper's Cottage at The Inn at Little Washington Reviews from The Last Year
His and Her thoughts ( Don't go if you're hungry )
His Thoughts: The Bad: 1. Of the 20 or so Michelin star restaurants I've been to this is the only one where I've left hungry. The bill came to $1650 for two people; its amusing to think about. I am 180lb 6 ft and we got the extra formage and caviar course. Everything was dampened on that note. 2. All the food was 'good' but nothing sticks out in my mind as a signature dish. The wasabi ice cream was the most unique accompaniment. I am glad I went, but feel no desire to go back. We drove 5+ hours from the Pittsburgh region. The Good: Everything else. The wholistic experience was a lot of fun and something my partner and I have been planing to do for a few years. Read one of the 1000s of other reviews gushing praise. Her Thoughts: My partner and I had planned a visit to the Inn at little Washington for over a year. I don’t know exactly how we found it, but once we did we fixed on it, it’s distance from Pittsburgh elevating the three Michelin star experience to something akin to a small video game quest. Reservations were moderately default to coordinate for our schedules and advance reservations something of a personal failing for the two of us, so for many months the inn proposition lay fallow. However, when I found myself with to an unexpected business trip to Bethesda, we recalled the idea, and wouldn’t you know it but there was a single 8:30 reservation available. We added on one wine paring, enough to try, not so much we couldn’t have cocktails. The cost to book was $1300 in non-refundable dollars, nothing to scoff at. Where you stay is a thing. The inn itself is another cool 1300 or so per night. We opted instead for an in-home airBNB round the block from the inn: a fraction of the price, with extremely friendly hosts we disappointed vis a vis our fastidiousness in sneaking in and out of their home without proper introduction. The inn at little Washington is elegantly, if slightly fussily appointed. Heavy silk white and green draping, velvet couches, antiques and elaborate tile cover all surfaces. There are wooden sitting rooms, a sunroom dining area (we were seated here), and a lounge area with a fireplace mantel so covered in liquor bottles it is picture worthy in itself. Exceptional single variety flower bouquets in myriad colors adorn the front mantelpiece and are stationed almost haphazardly throughout the property- certainly my favorite element of the decor if not the experience entirely. Service is fastidious if slightly overscripted and just slightly south of anticipatory. Upon entry you are handed a personalized menu, which is promptly revoked but kept for you away from errant crumbs until it is reissued at the end of the meal as a souvenir along with an inn shaped box of chocolates. There are options: plant-based menu or no, lamb or duck, optional caviar appetizer upgrade, optional cheese cart (rather than desert) upgrade. You can mix and match, which is nice: we ordered one each of both upgrades and I switched one entre for the vegetarian artichoke crabcake. Then began our hunt began for a good cocktail. One minor oddity is that they seem to have only a single copy of the wine, spirit, and cocktail menu, so the staff are frequently (but cordially) shuttling it back and forth between patrons, a not-insignificant impediment to efficiency. All the cocktails on the menu sound delicious and are cleverly named. The “El Jefe” my partner did not care for. It was something akin to a mezcal Negroni, but with a citrus and black salt chaser that could easily be mismanaged to make the whole situation unpalatable. The kitchen admirably offered to take this cocktail off our tab. We went on to try the Silk Road sour, a Chinese five spice, Smokey elevation of an ameretto sour. This pleased me but still didn’t hit the mark for my companion in the same way their their vodka cocktail did we can’t recall the name of. Although neither name nor preparation sounded the most appealing on the menu (pineapple and coconut, nothing earth shattering here folks) this was done exactly, exactly right, light and effervescent and elevating the ingredients to some higher plane of synthesis. Meanwhile, the food. The food is… well, undeniably good. The amuse bouche were each phenomenally crafted, but perhaps, ever so slightly outshine some of the latter plated dishes. The bread selection and cultured butter, served in the French style, with Maldon salt on the side, was perfect and worth revisiting, in particular for their “traditional dinner rolls” which were simultaneously rich and airy, like an entire dough made from the center of a croissant. Every course served was good. Standouts included the tuna and wasabi ice cream carpaccio and the star of the evening, the $62 caviar and cucumber gellee served in tin, the peach Melba, and I understand from my partner, the duck filet with cherry and fois gras. The optional cheese course was a full delight- the cheese cart well appointed and pleasantly kitschy in the shape of an actually cow replete with mooing noises. The selections were diverse and lovely- the manchego and Roquefort particularly memorable. However, I would be lying if I did not say I found more variability in the level of “good” than I had been prepared for at a three Michelin star restaurant. The shrimp and shishito appetizer and vegan crabcake were solidly enjoyable but less inspiring. I’m sad to report that I was solidly underwhelmed by the wine parings, which were all fair but none of them great. The possible exception to this was a sake pouring of which I was initially dismissive but which was the secret missing ingredient in the aforementioned tuna belly and wasabi appetizer. Overall, we had a splendid time, I’ll always remember it as a wonderful moment and meal. My partner and I pondered, on slightly damp block walk home from dinner, was this experience exemplary of the difference between a 2 and 3 Michelin star restaurant? The food, the service, the wine, were all extremely and solidly enjoyable, but were they transcendent? Perhaps not. But still, to be considered are things like consistency over time, and our own experiences, expectations and biases. We’d read the articles suggesting the Michelin scale itself is commercialized and not what it used to be, chefs self- revoking their stars to create with less pressure, more freedom of expression and whatnot. I’m sure it all feeds in. However, I recalled eating at Lazy Bear in the first year it opened, before it had achieved its stars. The buzz, and my expectations, were indeed high: but notably not higher, then my absolute wonder at the meal itself, which course over course changed everything I knew about what eating could be. I was younger then, certainly had had less exposure to the pinnacle of modern gastronomy and yet… and yet. I have to believe that there was a magic that night that consisted of more than a lack of jadedness. And although I’ll need more 3-Michelin- star notches in my belt to know, the Inn at Little Washington, lovely in every way, has given me the impression that “that magic” is not what the third star confers , but what I am really looking for in every meal and moment.
This is in the top tier of food experiences.
Probably one of the top three meals of my life. So inventive and everything was exquisitely composed. We got the wine pairing and it was amazing. I never would've been able to pick out one bottle that would have gone so well with each dish. It was definitely worth the expense to add it on. Service was amazing as you would expect. I loved the feel of the space. It really exuded country luxury. I highly recommend trying this place at least once in your lifetime. It truly lived up to my family's experience from 30 years ago.

My friend and I decided to make this beautiful trip out in the country. It was about an hour and half drive from our hotel decided to rent a car for this special dinner. The food and service were a top notch. Here are the photos to prove how beautiful the dishes were! It was a special event for us to celebrate our friendship and this is the perfect place to do it.

While the staff were delightful and professional, the inaccessibility for my 90 year old mother was disappointing. Steps required to enter, followed by steps to the restrooms, no grab bars, followed by steps down to the dining area, sent a clear message that accessibility is not a priority. If you, or a loved one, needs an accessible restaurant, I do not recommend The Inn at Little Washington. I found it very thoughtful that a representative phoned to discuss our diet restrictions. We informed the representative that we are plant based but, if absolutely necessary, we would eat egg or a piece of fish. The meal we were given included milk and cheese. In an ideal world, the establishment would be forthright regarding the unwillingness or inability to accommodate plant based diets. Instead, our expectations quickly became resentments. I know few people who feel pleased leaving a restaurant hungry, especially one held in such high regard. If you, or a love one is plant based, I do not recommend The Inn at Little Washington. The atmosphere was as expected. We enjoyed the artwork and the photos of well-knowns who visited the Inn in the past. It is actually very disappointing that the evening wasn't a five-star event for us. Maybe our constructive feedback will benefit others, whether the Inn takes it seriously and directs some of the hefty profits to improvements, or whether folks read this and don't let their money go to waste.
I am fortunate to have eaten at many of the world's best
I am fortunate to have eaten at many of the world's best restaurants, but admittedly the Inn has long been my favorite among the Michelin-anointed restaurants. The chef's personality shines brightly here in the whimsy, creativity, love for George Washington, and impeccable respect for ingredients and technique set against a backdrop of French and VA country charm. My last visit was before their third star and Amazon Prime documentary. The food remained a delight on my most recent visit, but the service struggled more than should happen for a 3-Michelin star restaurant. The food is creative, joyful, and delicious. Those well familiar with classic French techniques may delight at the hilarious or just unique takes on classic dishes. The joy for me is the playfulness and whimsy that sets it apart from most other restaurants of this caliber. The decor is what one might expect if Marie Antoinette's decorator attempted a French country aesthetic. My love for tassels delights in the decor. Classic tunes from the likes of Dolly Parton and Otis Redding accompany the meal. There are whimsical touches throughout. The service is not the invisible ballet of a Thomas Keller restaurant. It is less perfectionistic and much warmer. However, the attention to detail was more on par this visit with a 1-star restaurant (Michelin, not Yelp). The initial setting was beautiful but flatware had more thought to placement when my 10 year-old nephew sets a table. A dropped napkin was left there, then picked up and put back on the table, then replaced while the dropped one was left crumpled on the table for three more courses. Similarly, menus and candy boxes were brought out and dropped on the table before our cheese and dessert courses even came, cramping the table space and detracting from the presentation. Glasses were routinely left un-refilled and the fish knife only appeared as we were finishing the dish that it was obviously meant to accompany. These are things that just should just not happen at a 3-star restaurant. Service nearly disappeared after the last course before cheese and dessert. Would I go back? Absolutely. But I do worry that if they don't get their service ironed out they may find themselves with one star less than they otherwise deserve.
A Fairytale Wedding!
Phenomenal! My husband and I had our marriage celebration at The Inn at Little Washington, and it was the most incredible day of our lives. The attention to detail made every moment flawless and breathtaking. Would highly recommend to any couple hoping to have the wedding of their dreams!
Wow! Amazing, impeccable service and incredible, delicious
Wow! Amazing, impeccable service and incredible, delicious food. Not a good value but this visit will live on for the rest of our lives.
While the service at the hotel and the restaurant were
While the service at the hotel and the restaurant were superb, I unfortunately was a little disappointed with my meal. We visited for a friend's birthday and I have a shellfish allergy and am pregnant, so I could not eat any raw or unpasteurized foods either. I have the restaurant notice of this weeks in advance and anticipated a custom menu that would meet my needs. Unfortunately, once we were seated I was asked if I could just opt-in to the vegetarian menu. I was taken back a bit and said yes, but honestly was extremely disappointed because I had been looking forward to this experience for months and instead of getting any protein with my meal, I was encouraged to eat the vegetarian menu, which featured multiple items that I simply do not enjoy (like beets and mushrooms). One of the dishes was a raviolo and despite my dietary restrictions, the egg yolk in the middle was fully raw. Additionally, our waiter substituted in one meat main course for me, which I was glad for, but my duck was the most rare at the table, so I could not eat it. Overall, my party enjoyed their meal, but it is not the best restaurant we have ever been to and it was extremely disappointing that my needs weren't actually accommodated when an above and beyond experience is expected from a three-star establishment. Quite honestly, if the hotel experience and afternoon tea and breakfast wouldn't have been included, I probably would have rated this lower.
This was sheer and utter perfection.
No other way to say it. First the staff. Colby was our waiter, and suffice it to say that he was the BEST. Gerson was an absolute delight as well, as were all of the wonderful employees who brought bread, refilled drinks, and made us feel so fancy. The food was outrageous. The horseradish mousse, wasabi gelato, perfectly poached chicken, wonderful cannoli, extraordinary foie gras... how is it possible to achieve that level of perfection? The price tag is ludicrous--I know. But if you can find a way to make this a special occasion, DO IT. You deserve it. It was one of the best experiences of my life.
This is one the most amazing restaurants on the east coast,
This is one the most amazing restaurants on the east coast, if not the country, hands down. This can not be argued. Definitely not inexpensive but a culinary dining experience that is worth every penny. Course after course is a perfect portion that explodes flavors into your mouth that has your palate craving more. The service is second to none with a team of well polished professionals who orchestrate a 5-star performance. This is an evening out that is comparable to one of the best shows on broadway. Thank you for one of the best evenings out we could have ever imagined. By the way, we drove 1.5 hours to visit Little Washington, and it was a beautiful, scenic delight. Get there early and enjoy the quaint, restored village, peaceful streets and the eclectic stores. You will want to bottle up the town and take it home with you. If you can, spend a night or two at the lodgings. SIMPLY AMAZING!
The Most Extraordinary Dining Experience of My Life
Everything about our dinner at 'The Inn' was nothing short of incredible. We've been blessed to visit some very special places and have eaten some insanely good meals, but our dinner here this past Friday tops them all, by a fair bit. The Inn is gorgeous, and expertly appointed; the hospitality was impeccable, the service during our Kitchen Experience was amazing (spec dial shout-out to Tyler), and Chef O'Connell's team performed with a precise choreography rivaling the Bolshoi. Pricey for sure, and worth every penny. Each course of the tasting menu was rife with creativity and flavor - I cannot begin to adequately describe all that went into each bite. Trust me - this is a once-in-a-lifetime meal that those fortunate enough to access should not miss.
Paddy O'a the delighful bistro add on at the Inn's complex
Paddy O'a the delighful bistro add on at the Inn's complex has a misleading reservation policy. They charge $35 (non-refundable) for a reservation. I called two weeks out to cancel my Easter brunch reservation and they would not refund the $35 reservation fee. I can understand a last minute cancellation charge but two weeks out....really. Moral of story is don't cancel.
What a treat .
You are transported to a world where they take good care of you.The food is out of this world. We came here to celebrate our 40 th. Received personalized menu card. Wine pairing was just too good. Each food is a piece of art . Can't say enough good things about the meal. It's probably the best we have ever had. Definitely comimg back.
Our experience at the Inn was absolutely superb.
We spent almost a week in the town total, staying at the cottage and dining at the Inn multiple days. We tasted a little of it all! We often refer to our trip as one of the most memorable experiences of our life. Everything from the hospitality, to the personalized touches, and the history of the surrounding town, made for a experience like no other. We felt transported to a different era, one transcendent of time and space. To note - we were engaged over the course of our whimsical evening dinner at the Inn. The music was even on que as my fiancé got down on one knee. We were attuned to the impeccability of the details. Our evening sure felt intuited, and every need was met beyond measure. The staff were five steps ahead, and we even got a personal moment with the Chef himself. I'm still tasting the decadent and rich seasonal dishes, as I write this now. Between Patty O's, The Inn & the bakery, we have yet to find an experience here in San Diego that can match our time in Virginia. Thank you to the Little Inn & staff for creating an exceptional atmosphere.
Everything about this experience/meal was perfection.
We came early on a Sunday evening to celebrate my stepfather's birthday and they had custom 'happy birthday' menus for us as well as other small touches during the meal. We were seated in the sunroom area with lovely views of the koi pond. My mother and I both had the vegetarian menu while my stepfather had the gastronaut menu, and we were all extremely impressed with every single course. Every bite of food was delicious! We were very well looked after, and we never waited long between courses. We ordered two bottles of Swiss (!!! It's difficult to get Swiss wine in the US, so this is a big deal!) wine for the table, both of which were very good! Our sommelier, Hannah, was lovely and knowledgeable, not just about the wine on the menu but also local wines/wineries as well, which was so appreciated. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time there and I have already recommended it to friends. 10/10, worth every penny!
A must do! It's a treat that leaves you smiling and in love

Experience of a lifetime
This was the most special place that I have ever been (and I have been to a lot)! If I only had three words to describe this experience, they would be Excellence, Beauty, and Kindness. My husband and I went for a two-night anniversary get-away on February 29. When we arrived, the staff greeted us warmly and our room was ready. They took us on a short tour of the Inn, gave us a sparkling cocktail, then showed us our building called The Carter House, where our room was ready and waiting. We cleaned up and headed over to the main building for tea. I have a severe allergy to tree nuts and peanuts and they couldn't have handled it any better. At the first opportunity during tea service, the staff assured me that all was prepared and it was. My portion was separate from my husband's and was 100% nut free. This continued throughout our stay. Clearly they have coordinated across all staff for such things. Cameron, the tea expert and "cheese whiz", provided an optional 4:00 pm tour of the grounds and buildings. While his goal was to be informative, he was both charming and sweet. He shared the history of Chef Patrick - from humble beginnings to 3 stars - truly inspirational. Cameron's story illustrated how intentional Chef's journey has been. It was clear from our visit that the culture was one that while rewarding excellence, it also provided support, education, and most noticeably kindness. Kindness for each other as well as their guests. We enjoyed the Gastronaut's Menu on our first night. If you go, I suggest one of you get the "Apparently a Pear" dessert and the other get the cheese selection. Cameron is the resident cheese expert and he and Faira the cow deliver your cheese to the table. (Not to be missed!) During the day, we drove to the Shenandoah National Park and enjoyed the views. Check opening hours and plan accordingly. Chef and his team will pack a picnic lunch and if weather permits you could enjoy it there. On our second night we ate at Patty-O's - Chef's new casual dining restaurant. Of course, it was delicious. I had Julia Child’s Beef Bourguignon and my husband had their scallops. A fire was burning in the dining room fireplace giving a lovely glow to the room. We had a chance to meet Andre LeTendre - another lovely person who seemed genuinely happy to talk with us. House breakfast each morning was a yogurt with granola and berries, breads, coffee, juice selections (served in a 4-glass flight). While I didn't need it, I added an omelette on my first morning - and wow, it did not disappoint. Seriously the best omelette I have ever had. On the second day, for guests that stay two nights, there is a special oatmeal souffle that I'm still dreaming about. Yes, its pricey - but its worth every penny or more.
3 Michelin star restaurant at an inn in the VA countryside,
3 Michelin star restaurant at an inn in the VA countryside, 1.5 hours outside of DC. Fairly formal - I was glad that I wore my suit jacket. Complimentary valet that is decked out in garb that makes him look like it came straight from the closet of the Mad Hatter. When we left, he pulled up our car for us before we even asked for it/exited the restaurant (which was a very cool touch). Inside, the place is like what you would imagine an old Victorian mansion to look like. There is seating in a few different rooms, each of which has a slightly different vibe, however the space is a bit tight regardless of where you are seated. They put my GF and I both in a booth together to make up for these tight quarters. We didn't mind however, as this allowed us to both face out and see the rest of the dining experience. Only offer a pre-set $350 tasting menu, however you do get to choose between either a meat or vegetarian tasting menu. They also have a cocktail menu & a wine-paring menu as well. I got the regular testing menu and my GF got the vegetarian tasting menu, and we both got cocktails as well. Menu's here serve as complimentary souvenirs. When you make a reservation they ask if you are coming for any special occasion, and, if you tell them the occasion, they will write "Happy ...." and your names on the top of your menu. They also give you a complimentary goodie bag (inside of a box that looks like a replica of the inn) of candies to take home with you. Food was all very tasty, but nothing really blew us away as we assumed the food from a 3 Michelin star restaurant would. This being said, my cocktail was amazing as was the endless complimentary bread & butter. Another unique touch was that they offered a cheese platter in place of dessert, and to bring it to you they wheeled out a cart that looked like a cow. They also had a "cheese master" who plated your platter in front of you, all the while making cheesy puns :) The service was solid, but definitely not perfect. They did not clean up the crumbs from our table or fold our napkins when we went to the bathroom (which judging from the other reviews I read are common experiences), and they even brought another table's dishes to us once. Also, the service at the end was very slow and we ended up waiting a long time for our final courses and the check. Overall, we were glad that we checked a 3 Michelin star off of our bucket list, but we will not be coming back
Price of a 3*, service of a 2*, food of a 1*
I was expecting a lot from our visit to the Inn after having read so many good things, but I had to say I was mostly disappointed. - Price of a 3* - here no doubt, you are in a 3* :). When you know that you need to come from DC (1h30 train + 40min overpriced taxi) and that you pay your meal in advance (1000$ for 2), yes you arrive with some expectations :) - Service of a 2* - Service is great and heads (sommelier and maitre dhotel) are perfect (nice with the kids, knowledgable, smiling, etc). We also got the little attentions (menu with our names, visit of the kitchen..) For a 3* it could have just been one level higher I guess (the person at the door didnt greet us or hold us the door, we arrived early and noone told us we could have a drink at the bar, chef O'Connell was not here - which is quite rare in a 3* etc.) - Food of a 1* - Here lies the problem for me: the food was not at 3* level / or top100 list or whatever you take as the "best of the best" reference. And it was even quite far. It lacked originality, quality of ingredients and also quantity (the 3 of us were hungry when we left, which is so rare in you take a full menu in any michelin star restaurant..). In this "top of of the top" list you have The Fat Duck, Guy Savoy, Cellar Can Roca, Disfrutar, but also "lesser famous" 3* like lAmbroisie, lArpege, Troisgros, lAuberge de lIll etc. For each of these restaurants, even a few years later, I can tell you what we got and emotions we had - I am sure I wont remember anything in one month about the crab rillette, the tuna tartar, the pepper beef and the cheesecake. It was good yes, but not memorable. I heard words like "touch of originality", "perfection of sauce" etc about chef O'Connell - we got nothing of those :( A simple good nice 1* meal (and I know 1* that are better than the Inn - more original, more quality ingredients and more food) - the very last ones we went with went with my boyz in Roma (lAroma 1*), in London (Clove Club 2*) or in Blois (Fleur de Loire 2*) were all 3 better than the Inn on all criteria. Anyway the place is nice and beautiful, my kids had a great time no hard feelings here - but I am sure you can do much much better chef O'Connell!
Great but not perfect
This was my third visit to the Inn at Little Washington over thirty years - so a once a decade splurge. These days a meal will set you back at least $500 per person depending on how much you splurge on wine. The set price of $368 does not include all items offered on the menu - two of the options have a supplemental cost, including cheese at $32.00 per person. Four of went to celebrate a couple of milestone birthdays and had a lovely evening overall. The food - for the most part- was sublime, creative and beautifully presented. I didn't love the foie gras in pear (the appetizer for the non-veggies) but otherwise every course was a standout. But the experience diminished at the end for two reasons. First, we had eaten desert and were considering amongst ourselves whether to have coffee/tea when we were presented with the bill and the little to go boxes. This surprised us as several other diners who arrived at the same time were having coffee. We were seated at one of the few tables for four so perhaps they had another party coming? Whatever the reason, we felt rushed. Second, on reviewing the bill we discovered we had been charged for two classes of wine we had not ordered- at $40 each this was hardly a rounding error. I find it extremely rare to get overcharged at restaurants and for a fine dining establishment like the Inn at Little Washington I find it inexcusable. So the evening ended on a bit of a sour note. Finally, I do wonder if this price tag is sustainable. We had no difficulty getting reservations and looking ahead I found that most nights have availability.
Absolutely wonderful experience! We went on a cold snowy
Absolutely wonderful experience! We went on a cold snowy evening and the drive there was beautiful once you turned off of the main road. Once arriving to the little inn, we sat in the small bar area for a unique cocktail experience. Our server was very knowledgeable and offered suggestions when we asked about bourbons. We were seated in the dining room under a parasol which had a cozy ambiance. It was my partner's birthday and they provided special touches to our experience such as a personalized menu and addition to our desserts. Every detail was taken to make our dining experience memorable. We had both the vegetarian and omnivore menus and each were filled with lovely delicious portions and impeccable service. There was a bountiful cheese offering for dessert for an additional charge and 1/4 of us got the cheese and it was well worth the additional charge for the cheese puns and cheese knowledge of Cameron. There was enough cheese from one cheese plate to share with the rest of my table . The detail that they attend to was wonderful. Both my partner and I have food allergies and they gave us different water glasses from the rest of our group to ensure that our dietary needs were carefully maintained. During our experience one of my friends discovered that he was a grandfather and they brought a special addition to his dessert. This was my first experience at the Little Inn at Washington and it was a memorable experience. Is it expensive. Yes it is. Is it a special experience. Absolutely. I'm glad that I was able to have an experience and this wonderful establishment. My advice is, enjoy every experience. Relax and enjoy. It is truly special.
Excellent food fine service and quaint ambiance stayed
Excellent food fine service and quaint ambiance stayed there way back then... I am eager to go there again soon I hope , do not hesitate to try it.
I went to Washington DC on a trip over last summer, and
I went to Washington DC on a trip over last summer, and when you look for Michelin restaurants for the DC area, The Inn pops up in your search as the only restaurant that has Three Stars. So, of course, I had to make it happen. I had been to one, maybe three, Three Stars already, and you could just tell how they got their status. So know I have to collect them all. Great. So we planned a little side-trip over to the beautiful Shenandoah National Park, found a cute little Airbnb nearby, and had reservations that night for The Inn. We got in a little early, but that was ok, because they brought us to their beautiful little lounge where we got some wonderful, complimentary little snacks. How nice. Then, when our time came, we were escorted to our table, and wow. What a beautiful dining area. It's basically a house from the dawn of the country, and there's a patio area that's actually completely indoors. We got seated in the patio area and had nice, big, beautiful windows to look out of for our meal. Then, the fun began. I got a menu with a giant picture of the chef on the front with a personalized "Happy Birthday to Christopher" on it. Love that. Then the amuse bouche and the courses started. One after another. I can't remember everything, and the menu online has changed already, but I will lay out high and low points. There was a bread cart with a few different breads and an absolute mountain of butter. I took full advantage of this card. I love bread, and their little baguettes were so good. They did a fancy little deconstructed, gastronomic BLT that I wasn't expecting, but it was nice. It was like a shot you took, and you replied on the scent of the herbs to be the L of the BLT. I don't know. It was fun. I like new things. One of the courses is a tiny tin of caviar. I'm not sure if caviar is even good eats anymore. Seems like an ancient dish by now. But you can't say it's not fun and delicious. They only give you two toast points, so your options are to load up the toasts, or call the bread cart guy over. Some nice, fresh fish. Fun textures and beautiful presentation. A deconstructed ham dish with some grated cheese on top of a gel; this dish was a mess. Not a fan. A butter poached piece of lobster. Very small, and lobster is kind of in the same, outdated vein as caviar is. But, it was succulent and amazing. A nice slice of pork belly, now this was amazing. Again, small, but the flavor was incredible. And the puree it was on top of was perfect. Then came the desserts! One was a fun one that looked like they dropped the ice cream cone and it was splattered on the plate. It was a sweet corn ice cream with actual corn on the plate and a pepper to eat along with it. Love the flavor combos. But eat this quick, because it melts fast! The next dessert was a visit from the cheese cow. This was hands down the best, most memorable part of the evening. A very strange, lovable man comes over with a cow on wheels and gives you a tour of all his cheeses with many terrible, but also many great, puns. Then, you pick the cheeses, he gives you the prescribed accoutrements, like creamed honey, almonds, jams, etc, and get to work. They don't give you any carbs, though, so I called the bread cart man back over. No shame. I also got a dessert that looked like soap and some random tempered chocolate. I would get into them, but I am getting tired of typing. I will say, though, that I love it when these Michelin places send you home with things. And this thing was mega cute. A bunch of chocolates and candies inside of a little paper Inn! It was very good during the drive back to the Airbnb. Overall, it was definitely a fun, delicious dinner, absolutely. It was my least favorite of all the Three Stars I've been to, though. And just saying that aloud makes me feel like a pompous douche. But yet, it's true. I'm sure the complaints I have are exactly why some people come here. Old world food, small portions, being doted on hand and foot for two hours straight. Anyway, it was good. If you're coming to the area, and want to tick a Three Star off your list, you can't miss it.
Not Worth the Sticker Price
If you enjoy fine dining and are looking for a place to spend over $1,000 of your hard-earned money, you can do much better than the Inn at Little Washington. For those chasing Michelin star experiences, this is one you’ll want to quickly check off your list, question why it has those stars in the first place, and likely never return – unless you’re one of the regulars who get special treatment. Like an uncanny blend of The Menu and The Village, the Inn at Little Washington promises to transport you back in time to when droves of wait staff acted as robots and were cycled through endlessly to accomplish highly specific individualized tasks for your dining pleasure. During our 5-course pre-paid meal, we met no less than 13 different staff members and were seated directly next to a wait station. The amount of anxiety and unease produced by the feeling that we were constantly being observed and listened to (and we were being listened to) in a quaint inn with many, many staff eerily standing around cannot be understated. Don’t get me wrong, everyone was perfectly pleasant in their demeanor and delivery, everyone was professional…but maybe too professional? Everything felt choreographed (in a bad way) and there was no sense of warmth or comfort that a good server often brings to a meal out. Alcohol quality and service were excellent and reasonably priced (if not slightly on the high end, but in line with what you’d expect at a place like this). With respect to the food: it was good (not great) and nowhere close to feeling like we got what we paid for. The portions on the amouse bouche, carpaccio, and lobster terrine were modest; however, the portion size of the main courses (duck breast and venison) were downright insulting. My wife got a single strip of duck (which was cooked expertly) and I got two silver dollar sized medallions of venison (also cooked expertly) which left us both wondering where the rest of our respective dishes were. For almost $900 (not including alcohol) we felt ripped off. The kicker for all this was receiving a bill at the end of the meal which included a 22% service charge. Now, in isolation, this is not an issue. But here, when we pre-paid the meal (as you are required to do to dine here) we already paid a 22% service charge. So why then, Dear Reader, should another identical charge be assessed? The whole experience felt like a cash grab for the unwitting. I would not recommend this place and I have serious questions regarding how they are able to maintain 3 Michelin stars. For much better experiences where you can feel that the value of your dollar is either met or exceeded, I recommend The Kitchen, Ella, or Rose’s Luxury.

Absolutely impeccable
The Inn at Little Washington is a culinary experience. Dinner was sublime, service is impeccable and the location is amazing. A stay at the Inn is a must if coming for dinner. The team have an eye to every detail, and succeed at creating a transformative escape. They are totally invested in the guests and making sure they truly enjoying their stay.
Beautiful Accommodations but Slightly Declining
We returned for two nights and stayed in the beautiful Claiborne House which is a truly special place where the chef owner once lived. But the hotel and restaurant has dipped in food and service. On arrival, the living room tea service was chaotic with personnel running in and out with supplies and tours being held. Dinner in the main dining room has gone very upwards in price but the selection and portions have gone downwards in size. I got two minuscule, but nicely tasting, pieces of venison. The appetizers were good but the dessert was disappointing. Similarly, the in room dining was mixed with a great smoked salmon and soup but vinegary roasted chicken and underwhelming dessert (I asked for the butter pecan sundae and got a regular kids one instead). Breakfast was fine but limited and they won’t cook you a well done omelette . Patty O’s is a great alternative to the fussy Inn food. Service was hit or miss. Alexandra was lovely but the maitre’d was obsequious. We did not like Navleen the front desk manager. She has poor intuition and is not authentic, calling to force us into a breakfast decision, misbiling us and hovering while I reviewed the bill. They also kept referring to my partner and me as Mr and Mrs in paperwork when we corrected them. Some people simply stated they wouldn’t even try to pronounce our complicated last name …(?) Still it’s a gorgeous locale and stop. With their upcoming expansion, I can’t help but think the trend here is towards commercialization. Somehow the charm was lost on us this time.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
