Superb quality fish and chips
We had intended to have fish and chips on the green in Milford but the shop was shut. We decided to move to Lymington to see what was on offer and came across The Elderflower just off the quay. It was a high end restaurant but it had a sign outside saying ‘Fish and chips…best in town’. I went in to enquire, and once it was established Chef could do our order, a 10 minute wait and we had absolutely SUPERB F&C along with mint pea purée and tartare sauce which we ate sat along the harbour. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful which was lovely. As an aside, whilst eating we weren’t bothered once by seagulls although they were around…nice to be able to enjoy food without trying to fend off those daylight robbers!

Our third trip to The Elderflower and the food and service were excellent yet again. Lovely local produce cooked well and explained by the team at each course. I also enjoyed the wine pairing and had wines from South Africa, France and Argentina. Excellent job.
Be the first to ReplyVery nice restaurant, but expensive.
Having read the reviews I definitely thought it worth a try. Let's be honest and say the service and attention to detail was excellent. The reason for the rating I have given is that, for me, it was not worth the money. I found it very expensive and having been to other similar restaurants which were cheaper, I was disappointed that this was so expensive. You will enjoy the tasting menu and customer service. You may not enjoy the bill so much.

Some very excellent dishes and the lemon souffle was to die for. The signature dish of lamb rump was a huge disappointment due to a lack of trimming of the meat hence 4 stars. This restaurant is expensive and I do not expect a significant layer of outer sinew not to removed. Also the lamb was full of sinew and having recently cooked lamb rump steaks at home with little sinew I was disappointed.

As it was the 10th anniversary for the restaurant we spoiled ourselves with the 5 course tasting menu. It was fabulous in every way and in our opinion the chef never fails to deliver superb food with every changing ideas. We have been enjoying the Elderflower menus over the last ten years and look forward to the next. Bon appetite!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Tasting Menu
We had seen the Elderflower feature on Saturday Kitchen and the tasting menu looked incredible. It did not dissapoint, our first visit here and it won't be the last. The menu was innovative and the courses flowed really well into the next. There were many highlights of the 7 course tasting menu but the Pigeon dish was outstanding. At the end of the meal we saw the table next to have the additional cheese course which twisted our arm. I have never had a cheesboard like this and have eaten at a lot of fine dining restaurants. The welsh rarebit and the stilton cheescake were incredible. We look forward to coming back here very soon.

Another incredible and outstanding dining experience at The Elderflower. Having visited in December for the 12 Days of Christmas, we couldn't wait to return. Completely different offer this time and each dish in the 7 course tasting menu was a masterpiece. I cannot find enough superlatives to describe the ingredients and skill that went into creating and producing these individual plates of utter delight. Staff were superb as usual and their unobtrusive attentiveness and relaxed approach made you feel so at home And with the superb Marjolaine overseeing all front of house activities, we were guaranteed a fabulous evening - which indeed we did have. We'll be back very soon..... https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g190774-d6467684-r938543654-The_Elderflower_Lymington-Lymington_New_Forest_National_Park_Hampshire_Hampshire.html#

Good but not very good or excellent. That's how I'd rate my experience. Average is a little harsh but 3.5/5 Good would be fair. Interesting menu, some great flavours, excellent service. A very competent kitchen. Portion sizes on the 5 course tasting menu were small and service was slow. 2 hours and 20 mins for 5 courses is painfully slow. I know restaurants are having a tough time right now but £225 for the 5 course tasting, with a bottle of water and one glass of wine plus service. You can eat just as well in Hampshire for a lot less.

Absolutely divine. The whole experience was exceptional, staff are knowledgable, enthusiastic and engaging. The menu is thoughtful and beautifully executed. I’d recommend enjoying the element of surprise, trust in Chef and each course brings a level of excitement. So lucky have The Elderflower on my doorstep and will return.
Be the first to ReplyAnniversary meal, Fantastic food and service.
We had the 5 course taster menu. While we were waiting we were served warm freshly baked bread roll with Isle of Wight butter with black garlic and mushroom butter, lightly whipped and quenelled. Ist course Tampura oyster, beautifully light and crispy, with butter milk sorbet and asain dressing. 2nd course Seabass Tartare with bergamot dressing, hibiscus jelly and caviar. 3rd course Catch of the day, stunning Halibut with mango salsa, curried cauliflower puree and pickled red onion and golden raisin, our favourite part of the meal. 4th course was the Grazing cow, perfectly pink fillet of beef, mushroom puree, ox heart polenta cubes, marrow bone with a tongue and cheek mix . Final course of Chocolate and rose with salted caramel. The whole meal was deliciously tasty, rich and indulgent. Couldn't possibly eaten any more courses. Staff incredibly attentive and well briefed on every part of the food being served. 3rd visit for us and we will be back again for another special occasion. If our income was more abundant and the isle of wight ferries weren't so incompatible with evening dining we'd be there every few months ! Fabulous, well done to the Elderflower Team

Eventually got around to booking the Elderflower and so pleased we did! We went with two friends for lunch and had the tasting menu. The staff were professional and friendly and explained the various dishes well. Service was excellent as was the food. Well recommended.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing dining experience
We had the 5 course taster menu and every aspect of every course was amazing. The creativity and skill in both the cooking and presentation was of the highest standards. Probably the best dining experience I have had.

I was really looking forward to taking my wife for lunch at this much celebrated restaurant. I booked via the website but within 30 minutes had to cancel due to a sudden family bereavement. It took several days for the restaurant to respond to my email and this was to inform me that because I had booked using their “third party” site I had to pay a £5pp fee to the booking company. I do not remember seeing this anywhere on the site. How disappointing that this is seen as acceptable customer service. I have asked the restaurant to ensure that this is clearly advertised on the site so no-one else suffers the same fate. Totally ridiculous!

On offer was the 4 course taster menu, which was excellent, especially the starter and then the fish curried dish. Although not a great fan of steaks, the filet was good, along with its accompanying little dishes. Well worth a visit and we'll be back.
Be the first to ReplyA Divine Valentine’s Dinner Experience
We had lovely gastronomic time Elderflower in Lymington for our belated Valentine’s dinner last night as we didn’t want to skip our Argentine Tango dance class on Tuesday. There was a free starter of Isle of Wight black mushrooms garlic marmite butter with home made bread followed by 3 cold and 2 hot dishes. Love the tempura oyster marinated with chef’s teriyaki sauce with buttermilk sorbet. Then the salmon basque tartar with mushroom purée and wasabi sorbet garnished with fish roe herbs were delicious and beautiful with it’s presentation that I completely forgot to take photo of it! The Talbut fish was tender with a surprised squid ink on papadom. My most favourite would have to be the 21 day aged grazing cow trio beef fillet with artichoke, grilled mushrooms and purée watercrest then a beef tongue and cheek in marrow with smoke gerkins and parsley. Last but not least, the perfect raspberry and rose choc mousse cake with salted caramel and mousse complete with a candied rose petal which was a lovely touch! Overall a very lovely experience, great ambience to the restaurant as well as awesome table service and thank you to the team in particular to Mr. Dash, who served our table.

I visited with my wife for the five course tasting menu. We were both really looking forward to it as it took months to get a Saturday night booking. Thankfully, the hype was worth it. Every course was fantastic, we both just wanted more, but to be fair we were pleasantly full by the fifth course. Very friendly staff and I loved the relaxed atmosphere. It's not cheap at £75 a head and it's at the top end of what I'm prepared to spend nowadays, but I would be back for a special occasion. Lovely old building too near the waterfront.

We heard about this restaurant on TV a couple of years ago. Our experience totally matched our expectation. The food is outstanding and the serving staff were friendly but professional.
