The welcome at the door was genuine and made us feel
The welcome at the door was genuine and made us feel fabulous. The service at the bar is excellent. Drinks are excellent. The food is excellent What more can I say? The Mango Passione is a sumptuous mezcal drink not to be missed

Loved this place! They had a great service and fantastic food! Definitely a nicer restaurant that is on the pricier side, but it was the perfect place to celebrate something special! I loved the Italian style seafood twist on the menu! My favorite was the Spicy Shrimp Creste

Amazing food! Great service! The venue was beautiful! I would go back in a heartbeat and recommend it to everyone

We had Keegan and it was an absolutely amazing experience!! His service along with everyone else was unbeatable and we felt so special throughout our entire experience. On top of that, the food is AMAZING!! I would 100% reccomend this place to everyone, you have to give it a try!!!

This place was amazing, the staff was absolutely incredible. I came here with a few of my girlfriends for my birthday dinner and the staff was so attentive. They brought us shawls because we were cold as well as purse clips to help hold our purses on the table. They all individually said happy birthday to us and made it a point to make our nights absolutely amazing. This restaurant was perfect and the food was incredible but the star of the show was the staff. The restaurant is also very beautiful and we had such an amazing time. Kegan, EJ, Max and Josiah are just some of the amazing staff, but really everyone was wonderful. Thank you guys for the amazing time!
Be the first to ReplyMy wife and I went for our anniversary.
I called to make the reservation and spoke with Bridgette who took down our information and asked about our wedding (COVID WEDDING) When we walked in we were greeted and sat immediately. The service and intentionality of the staff here is unmatched. The menu is designed very uniquely as well. We started with Char Grilled Oysters 10/10, then went to the Rock Shrimp Pasta and finished with the Porterhouse Steak which was presented and cooked to perfection. The setting in the room was great, not too loud and very friendly atmosphere. We went to the speakeasy in the kitchen as well which was an added bonus. Overall we definitely will be back!
Be the first to ReplyI have no words.
We have dined here before and thought it was life changing, but the meal we had this time just blew everything out of the water. The service is impeccable. Our group of 10 had everything we needed. The waitresses offered to design a meal for us, and curated it also to different members' dietary restrictions (we had vegetarians and non-beef etc). Every single thing was just such a delight. The drinks were phenomenal, the wine kept flowing. Perfect portion sizes of everything. Nothing fell flat. I wish I could live here at The Charles!!!
Be the first to ReplyI had a wonderful time here.
The ambiance and staff involvement is very unique. Reminded me of the Copa Cabana scene in Goodfellas. The lobster with spicy squid ink pasta was awesome. The veal ragu was an interesting twist and very creative.

gemz **** WHAT THEY'RE KNOWN FOR: I told my bf this place gives me "I live around the corner and I know a spot" vibes because it seemed to be a neighborhood favorite for a chill night out would I drive 30 min here to voluntarily eat ehhh prob not. THE VIBES: smaller, clean, quaint, classy, pops of Italian flair and color PRICE: ~$55 per person (4 girls, 5 dishes) WOULD I COME BACK? Probably not. **** Overall Rating: 8/10 - I think I'm only being somewhat critical about it because I've heard so much hype about this place from tons of creators and personally don't see why it's hyped up. - This place is one of those fancy places that have high prices and small portions, however, I will say I was full and paying about $50 per person is not bad at all for a Dallas fancy restaurant. It's also meant to be family style so you can have a bite and try every dish! - For starters, they serve you pickled veggies which was actually delectable. - The spicy creste di gallo was super sour! I don't know what happened but even my friends who had it before agreed. Not a fan. - I surprisingly loved the beef tartare the most! This is my second time having it ever and this was delicious! The veal beef ravioli was on the sweeter side. Wasn't bad! I loved the lemon ricotta gnudi actually! It was a fun texture and great flavor. The cacio e Pepe gnocchi was a different shape than the usual ball but it was delicious too! - They had a speakeasy in the back that you have to go through the kitchen to access which was actually really fun to experience. It's super chill and casual for a drink and catch up session with 1-2 friends (it's small). - Overall, the dishes had lots of flavor but the wow factor kind of lacked from everything. Servers were super nice and informative and patient tho! Vibes were great, just overhyped.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful restaurant with delicious food.
They have an excellent selection of liquor and wine. And you should definitely check out the speakeasy in the back.

Joshua was an amazing bartender! Would come again to see him! Otherwise, the food was great as well. Our servers Antonio and Jt lived up to the standards, can't wait to come back to Dallas and visit again.

My wife and I went to The Charles for the first time for our anniversary. I'd heard good things about it and they most certainly did not disappoint. In a word, it was outstanding. We were early for our reservation so the hostess suggested their lounge (different from the restaurant's bar) and escorted us to the cozy lounge somewhat hidden behind/adjacent to the kitchen. It was a true gem of an experience. Our bartender, Antonio, was terrific from the outset. We were about the only people there as they'd just opened for the day and he had time to talk with us as he was doing his setup. He was exceedingly knowledgeable about his cocktail-making craft and was a great conversationalist about a good many things as we sat there for a while. He was good enough to even pour us a top-shelf glass of champagne for the occasion on the house. That was much appreciated. I highly recommend the specialty Old Fashioned cocktail made with cynar instead of bitters. It was delicious and my wife and I both enjoyed it. Antonio introduced us to the manager, EJ, and the sommelier should we need to ask for her recommendation for dinner. A nice touch. When we left the lounge for the dining room we were struck by how full the restaurant had gotten already. I'd highly recommend reservations as this place has become a hot ticket item since opening in 2018 or 2019. (I forget - blame the old fashioned...). We were seated at a comfortable booth and soon approached by our server, Chris, who frankly was one of the best we've ever had. Perfection insofar as knowledgeability about the menu, attentiveness, impeccable service and genuine desire to make sure we enjoyed our meal. The food we had was about as good as it gets and we've been to some of the best Italian restaurants both here and abroad. I won't get into all the dishes we had but the wood-fired oysters were to almost die for. The bottom line is that this place is absolutely the tops in terms of its vibe and hospitality orientation. They have loyal customers for a reason. It's simply outstanding and we'll definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyCharles made my birthday dinner unforgettable.
...in a wrong way. We were taken to a back room which is just an ordinary room with loud music. Entrees were served with sides that didn't quite match the menu description. My plain, grilled branzino was covered with arugula; no artichoke hearts was to be seen. The Pie that sounded very special was not any better than frozen pot pie off the oven. Grilled beets and mysterious root vegetables were salty and overcooked. Highlight of our birthday dinner? - they decided to add a tiny candle to my espresso profiterole by gluing it to the plate! Fancy at face but squeezing every dime out of each table...Kudos to the owners who are doing superb job of maximizing profits out of this place driven up by the deco and the vibes but not by the food quality. If enjoying the front deco was part of what we paid for, we definitely were left out by being led to leave thru the back door after dining. Food: 1/5 |
Be the first to ReplyI hate to say it, but these days, I'm almost a restaurant
I hate to say it, but these days, I'm almost a restaurant Luddite, at least when it comes to joints in Dallas. Other than the places I frequent, I generally have no clue as to what's hot and what's not. So when some friends suggested The Charles, raving about the food and the popularity of the place, I shrugged my shoulders. For some reason, it wasn't on my radar screen. (Matter of fact, I thought my friends were referring to Mister Charles, a restaurant I had recently seen in the Knox/Henderson area and nearly ended up going there instead of the Design District where The Charles is located.) When we arrived for our 8ish reservations on a Saturday night, the place was crowded and noisy. Our friends had already staked out a table in the "speak-easy" bar in the back. In my limited vocabulary, the place was hopping and trendy, with happy patrons all over the age spectrum. We decided to dine in the bar area. Service was prompt and attentive. Our servers were cheerful and helpful. Looking at the menu, it was obviously a twist on Italian, but someone mentioned they had a pot pie on the menu. Pot pie as in chicken and beef pot pies that I enjoyed and survived upon back when I was in college? The vision was enticing, so that's what I settled upon. But this was no Swanson's frozen pot pie like I had seen in my younger days. It was delicious and upscale, but still captured the memories of the comfort food I had loved so many years ago. So what does my one-man jury say about The Charles? A definite thumbs-up. But I'd like to try it on a night other than a hopping Saturday. For my hermit-like preferences, it was a little too much "happening" for my taste. But, I'd wager that it's probably happening on most every night of the week. But, I will give it a few more whirls, and maybe, just maybe, I'll find another take on some of my beloved comfort foods from long ago on the menu. How about fish sticks?
Be the first to ReplyThis is absolutely my new fave go to place when traveling
This is absolutely my new fave go to place when traveling in Dallas. And that's big praise because the Big D has plenty of great restaurants. I'm not saying they've reached that NY/Chicago/LA/SF tier yet, but they're gaining and not too far behind! But this place just gets it right. The vibe is near perfect. Fancy and fun without being pretentious. That's a tough line to walk but they manage it flawlessly. Go to the back bar hidden behind the kitchen and eat back there if you can. It's like being transported to some era where you might see Sinatra. I've never had a bad dish here and have tried at least a dozen, so you truly can't go wrong. Smaller plates built for sharing. But please, whatever you do, make sure you order the small, shrimp pasta dish. I've gotten it every single time and there are legit fights as we all stab at the last piece of pasta! I can't recommend enough, put it in the queue!

I totally understand the hype now! Went here for my husband's birthday. Before we even got to the restaurant they sent me a text to ask the birthday guests' name which was very thoughtful. Our waiter Max was super friendly and helpful with explaining the menu. We ordered the butter lettuce salad, rockfish shrimp pasta, and the pie. 10/10 for every dish! I was a little worried about the portions from reading other reviews but it was more than enough food. We actually had to take home some leftovers because we were so full! Will recommend The Charles to anyone wanting to have an excellent dinner and night out.
Be the first to ReplyOverall - 7/10The decor was a little weird to me
Overall - 7/10The decor was a little weird to me personally, but that's personal taste, I just tend to like more minimalistic vibe. A little dark, restroom kept nice and tidy. Gave hand towels instead of paper towels, so fancy.Service was excellent, servers/bartenders are well informed about the plates they serve. "They have a policy for whoever gives the card first gets to pay." Food was paced very well even though we gave our server the entire list and told her to pace it however was best. And ate family style because that's the only way the plates are made here. Our first round were drinks - Cold brew negroni - made well but i thought it was going to be similar to an espresso martini in the fact that its like a dessert drink. But nope, it is truly a negroni and sure tasted like one. It was good, I finished it, but it wasn't my cup of tea. Arancia passione - balanced, but the salt rim was off putting especially when it is made with a passion fruit honey, a sugar rim seems more fitting. And the spicy tequila wasn't as spicy as it should've been, almost tasted like regular tequila.Cosmo - was missing the cranberry note in it, liked the passion drink better.Food - first roundHiramasa crudo - was very fresh and could tell good quality of fish, but the sauce didn't match the fish in my opinion. Tasted a bit sour-y, didn't highlight the fish, just overpowered the fish slightly.Beef tartare - best thing here hands down. First time having beef tartare, it was so fresh and had none of any nasty beef "raw" flavor just felt light paired with the bread tasted perfect.Wood fired oysters - just felt like regular shmegular grilled oysters nothing special just good quality. I don't know if worth the value. Charred octopus - was my friend's favorite dish, but my personal opinion just another grilled octopus, but I have to admit and have to give props to the chef, that was a well cooked. Again, not much seasoning or maybe if there was some sauce with it to elevate the dish a little bit.Second round -(Pasta made fresh everyday)Veal Ragu Cappelloni - was pretty good, not very memorable. Veal was and always is such a delicate meat and this pasta dish highlighted that. Spicy Creste Di Gallo - it was a very cool pasta shape, i've never had it before, and the texture and cook of the pasta was perfect. I really liked the bounciness of the pasta and the sauce was good. The rock shrimp was pretty small, i've never had it before so i don't know if it's normal or not. Anyways, it was the size of a crawfish, and it tasted a little bit like lobster almost? Still good nonetheless. Bucatini carbonara - this was interesting, it was VERY sour, felt like vinegar sour. Pasta was cooked a perfect al dente like the other pasta. Creamy and a good carbonara other than that. Third round - Pork Blade Chop - SO tender our knife that wasn't super sharp, just felt like cutting through warm butter. Tasted nice, I like the mushroom on the side. Wish the pork itself was seasoned a little more. Felt a tad bit bland.Prime Short Rib - the balsamic all over the prime rib wasn't very attractive and didn't feel like it highlighted the meat at all. Too overpowering, and the parmesan on top didn't help at all. I had a bite of the parmesan with every slice and could barely taste the cheese, just overloading my tastebuds with a sour balsamic everywhere. The side of salad that came with it was good though.
Be the first to ReplyDined here last week and had a decent experience.
Food was tasty, drinks were ok. Had the oysters, short rib, halibut, and beet salad - all of which were pretty good. Where things went south was the dining area by the bar where we were seated. There was absolutely no space between my chair and the bar stools behind me, causing every server, food runner, and other patrons to bump into my chair. The couple next to us complained to us about the same problem and we both shook our heads. I literally had to push our table as far forward as possible and scooted my chair up to where my knees were sandwiched between my wife's knees. Certainly not the best experience after dropping $240 on dinner. It also didn't help that our server disappeared after the entrees came out. I left a review on Resy and Michael from the restaurant reached out to me. Said I could text him to share more about my experience, but he didn't bother responding to both of my texts. We won't be back any time soon and will be sharing our experience with friends, family, colleagues and clients.
Be the first to ReplyWhile I still enjoy the food, the sommelier completely
While I still enjoy the food, the sommelier completely ripped us off. We told her that we preferred not to spend over $150/bottle on an Italian wine and she stated she had a wine off the list for $149 (what a coincidence). Upon delivering, we pointed out that it was Sicilian, but she highly recommended. I looked it up on a wine app after she left and it retailed for $29/bottle! Also, she never came back by the table to inquire as to how we liked it. Been there several times, and service was also off.

As soon as we walked in, we were amazed by the vibe and general look and feel of the place. The staff was extremely friendly and made sure to accommodate a member of our party needing gluten-free options. All of the food was so good and well worth the price. Would be sure if ever in Dallas again to stop in
Be the first to ReplyI was really looking forward to trying this place based on
I was really looking forward to trying this place based on the reviews and sadly left disappointed. The inside was decorated nicely. They sat us in their speakeasy section in the back but honestly wish they hadn't since it was super loud that I could barely hear my husband over dinner. We started off with drinks which I will say was my favorite of the night since the food was a big letdown. We had their Burrata Salad special, sadly the squash was undercooked since I couldn't even bite through it. Big letdown. We had the Prime Short Rib, probably the best entree we had. The Veal Ragú was good but not worth the price given the amount of pasta they serve you. It's family style dining apparently but didn't feel like it. The charred broccoli wasn't great, seriously just tasted like tomato sauce thrown over cooked broccoli with cheese sprinkled on top. All in all the place was mediocre at best, I think ppl like this place more for the atmosphere of the restaurant because the food was nothing to brag about in my opinion. Dallas has way better Italian style restaurants than this. Again bummed since I had high hopes for this place. I will say the service was very friendly and that's why I give them 3 instead of 2 stars. Wouldn't come back tho.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing service, specifically Rome.
Was attentive throughout the entire dinner and made us feel not only cared for but comfortable as well.

We went to dinner on Christmas Eve and had the chefs tasting menu for the night. It was magical. Everything was so good! My husband loved the oysters rockefeller and I couldn't get enough of the beef tar tar. The homemade pasta was delicious and the steak done perfectly. Our waitress was the tiniest sweetest girl ever. She really made the experience over the top. Can't wait to go back. 10/10.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent date night place or business dinner.
Cocktails were fantastic and they had an extensive wine selection. I recommend ordering several apps to share. Our group of six shared three meals and there was more than enough. Still had to have some chocolate cake to finish off though. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food! I love eating here.
Would give 5 stars except they have a dish that needs more explanation. It's a chicken dish that is spicy "on fire"hot! I recommend this place and forget to warn friends about the chicken dish. Someone always orders it and literally can't eat it. That said everything else is delicious and will not disappoint.
