We wasted our money, so you don’t have too!
Booked here as we saw some great reviews, but in all honesty the experience was terrible. To start it was around 20 minutes late, with no real welcome. When we originally checked in for our booking, we were told that we have been booked in, however around 15 minutes later a waiter came over and said ‘we’ve been waiting for you’ so we clearly had not been checked in. Going through into the potions room, was underwhelming to say the least. It wasn’t what it looks on photos at all, so I can only imagine these were through the process of photoshop. When we did the ‘potions’ these were again not as advertised, it was a very childlike experience, even other people on the experience were saying this is too silly and not worth the experience. The welcome drink, don’t even bother. It’s awful. The drink that comes out by magic. Don't bother. It’s awful. The potions that we made, were not $75 of alcohol, I would say around $20, and I find it hard to believe that the experience was worth the money of $55 dollars left.. they also asked for a tip at the end, again found that strange as the experience wasn’t worth $75, therefore why was a tip warranted? In all honesty, don’t waste your money. We have had a better time walking into bars and enjoying ourselves that way. There is plenty more in NYC to do and see, just not this!

We first went to The Cauldron for fun Magical Cocktail Experience in 2018. This year, we went back for their Magical Afternoon Tea in May 2023, and it was fantastic! So, we went back only four months later, in late September 2023 to treat my mother and my niece. I was shocked at how much changes they made to everything… The only thing they didn’t change was the decor. We could no longer choose which sandwich we wanted, and the portion was significantly smaller. The waitress was not attentive at all, and we were forced to howl like a wolf in order for the waitress to come to us. Service was super slow, we were left hungry and frustrated, and yet they automatically added 20% gratuity on our check. It was a pretty bad experience, very disappointed with their changes…
Be the first to ReplyNot magical
I had been to the Couldron about 4 years ago & it was a fantastic experience. When we decided to take trip to New York again it was on my list of things to do, what a let down! We wanted to try the tree, you only had cider, the restaurant lacked the atmosphere we were expecting from our last visit. The food was ok (nachos) the cocktails were fun, no one could manage to get a WiFi code despite asking a number of times & it was expensive, which doesn’t bother me, but it wasn’t a patch on our first visit. The restaurant is tired & in need of some work. I don’t like to give a bad review but I was so looking forward to our experience & it really wasn’t one.
Be the first to ReplyGreat experience for young kids
I would absolutely recommend this experience for kids, age 4-7ish in particular. My 6 year old daughter loved... mixing ingredients to make potion, the magic them embedded via smoke, magnets, etc., and the waitress who played the part very well.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Time at Wizard Afternoon Tea
Went to Cauldron Wizard Afternoon Tea with my two young adult children for a birthday celebration. Had an amazing time. So much fun. The restaurant decor was magical, perfect background music, awesome cocktails, food was great and plentiful. The afternoon tea theme was whimsical and fun throughout the experience. Highly recommend for something fun and different!

I booked the potion making class with the sightseeing pass. Had never heard of it but basically looked to see what I could use with the pass and this caught my eye. Arrive early and took advantage of the happy hour before the experience. Our group was taken upstairs to a quirky little room. We were given a welcome drink, you need a wand to to get this. The pass only allows one potion, after initial disappointment we didn’t get 2 included, this went as the cocktail was so strong. You each get a jar, glass and ingredients and you make it in your group, just asking for ice at the end. It’s interactive with the castle and wand on the table. We all really enjoyed it.

Had a reservation, paid for reservation. They called and cancelled my reservation. No emergency or natural disaster. They just booked a private event and could not fit me in any longer.
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere and chicken wings!
The atmosphere at the bar was great. It is a Harry Potter-inspired place so the decorations are awesomely adequate. The crispy chicken wings are great too 😊
Be the first to ReplyOne Magical Experience!
This was an amazing experience! We went for my boyfriends birthday and it did not disappoint. Our resident wizard, Valentine, was outstanding! They brought such amazing energy and made the whole experience so worth it. The welcome drink was amazing, I like that you had an option of three different ones (one non-alcoholic as well for those that did not drink). I got the cider and my boyfriend for the sangria, both were excellent. It was one of the best ciders I have ever had. The drinks we made during the class were great as well. There were three drinks to choose from and you choose two drinks for the table that you want to make. The experience itself was amazing, organized well, and the instructions for the drinks itself were clear and everything was labeled! If you are having doubts about booking, just do it! Completely worth the money, and the smoking drinks were so cool.
Be the first to ReplyBetter off going alone… not really a class
We came for the potion class. Two of us. I wanted one drink my daughter wanted another. The woman starts talking about half portions and a box. Made no sense at the time. We each get one drink to make.... I tell her what I want and what my daughter wants and she only brings out the drink my daughter wants--for both of us. They bring it in crates and basically if there's two of you you are forced to get the same drink. I didn't get a choice on the matter. My daughter chose the raspberry one--I hate raspberries. If I came by myself I assume I would get choice. We paid for two passes we should have each gotten what we wanted. My daughter didn't like the drink after she made it, so neither of us got to even enjoy it. The lady never came and asked us how we liked our drinks or anything but she made sure to tell us how much we should tip. Part of the fun of going with someone else is tasting each other's drinks or plates. This was not a great experience.
Be the first to ReplyThe best way to spend the night before my wedding!
I love this place!!
Discovered it on my last trip to NYC in March 2020 and couldn’t wait to bring my mum, aunts and bridal party this past week.
Cocktails are fabulous, food is delicious although be warned the portions are huge!! Tuesday is karaoke which my aunt made full use of much to our amusement .. the only downside is it’s in NYC and not Wales.
Can’t wait for our next trip.
Great time!
Food and cocktails were awesome! Sophia and Sal were stellar service professionals- and they really made our friend’s birthday special! Shoutout to Drag Bingo!
Be the first to ReplyComplete let down
Buyer beware. Despite months of planning, this place was a complete disappointment. There was no ‘Potions Master’ or staff to instruct the potions making. They threw a set of instructions at you and in fact we’re expecting us to do only one of two potions even though we paid for the entire two potion experience. We were the ones instructing the party and cleaning up the tables after the potions! None of the staff was around to help. We were told tables would have 4 kids and they crowded each table with 6. There were no Wands given even though the experience described the event with wands. It was impossible to get hold of the manager who was completely unresponsive to our calls and emails. Do not waste your money here.
Be the first to ReplyBe extra careful if you have food allergies
I visited the cold rain yesterday for the 1st time with a friend. We had a great time! The place was truly magical and the experience was one of a kind. My only issue/concern Is when it came to dealing with my food allergy. When I bought the tickets I wrote a note saying that I was allergic To a common ingredient found in teas and baked goods. When I arrived I also informed the the waitress. TWICE, I had to send food back that contained my food allergy. Once I foud out the hard way when I bit into it. I brought this up to the waitress who apologized, but kind of brushed it off. If you have a food allergy MAKE SURE TO CHECK EVERYTHING. Otherwise it was a super fun experience!
Be the first to ReplyFantasy fans, this is a must do
We came here to do the Potions class and absolutely loved it. Our “professor” was very energetic, helpful and was quick to respond to a h questions we had. The experience is 100% what YOU make it since you are the one mixing the ingredients to make your drinks.
You are welcomed with one of 4 welcome drinks (we only had 3 options the day we booked), all of which have an interactive feature to it. From there, you go to your table and your instructor comes over with vials, glasses and the instructions on how to make your drink. They also go over the mixing area at the end of your table, then you get to work!
We enjoyed both of the drinks we made as well as some of the fries and baked cheesy cauliflower.
If you are into fantasy, this place is worth checking out!
A bit of a let down
Family of four for the potion making. Expectations were much higher than what was delivered sadly. Cool concept and neat bar atmosphere, but the experience fell flat. My kids ages 11 and 7 still seemed to enjoy themselves, but we expected more of a wow factor given the price tag ($200+) to mix two drinks. Not to mention a group of three young 20 something’s at the table next to us. One was extremely sick/hangover wailing and smelled like she had been ill in the bathroom. The whole area smelled so bad and the woman kept crying and crying saying I’m sorry. She should have been asked to leave. She was very disruptive. My kids asked why the woman was freaking out. It had a really negative impact on our family experience. Back to the experience. Kind of unremarkable. Our waitress was overbearing and not a very good “actress”. The drinks were fun to mix but that really was it. Bypass it trust me not the experience you think you’ll get for the $.
Be the first to ReplyGood idea poor service
I went with my little one to the wizard afternoon tea. The idea is really good. However, the service is really very poor. Our master was impatient and sarcastic, which doesn’t help to make the experience better for my little one, who is a big fan of Harry Potter. I was planning to return to do the potion experience. Definitely I am not returning.
Be the first to ReplySuper fun!
We saw this place while searching for nearby places and since my daughter’s a huge Harry Potter fan we decided to check this out. The drinks are very fun—I’m not a big cocktail drinker but the bubbling Blackbeard’s Rum was a hit! They do make some mocktails so my daughter had a bubbling raspberry lemonade. Our appetizer cauliflower was set aflame at the table and tasted great. Husband and daughter and burgers and fries and I had the octopus salad—all good. We finished with a piece of rainbow cheesecake. Our servers were friendly and helpful. Was this the best food ever? No—but the overall experience was very enjoyable for anyone who loves magic!
Be the first to ReplyVery Fun and Different
This was an amazing experience. When you first arrive, you get a welcome drink (best drink of the night?). The drinks you chose from are limited but making them makes up for it. I enjoyed the first drink we made but the second one was not my favorite. The staff was very dedicated and the restaurant itself is beautifully set up.I would go again.
