The Cauldron NYC Magical Pub New York Reviews from The Last Year
Was here for the Valentines Potion Experience.
What was presented was different than what was booked. Originally was supposed to receive a Valentines Day shot as stated at time of booking. Later when confirming the class the shot was replaced with a heart shaped balloon a tarot card and a recipe card. We didn't receive any of that. The potions we made were meh. Not really drinkable. The guy running the class was great and had a lot of enthusiasm. I don't remember his name. The magic wand they give you was only used to pour the welcome drink so not sure why it's needed. Save your money.

I pre-booked this place online a month in advance for a nice valentines date for me and my girl to have a great night with 2 pre ordered drinks. One of the pre ordered drinks never came out, the service was horrendous on a slow night. The server we had never checked on me and my girl, just threw one drink at us. The next drink we ordered took 45 minutes to prepare. Both drinks were way to strong and barely was able to taste any flavor in them. The management has no idea how to accommodate for all their guest or run a bar service. Very very disappointed with the performance and service they provided all around. Would never recommend going here. Sad because the atmosphere was great. Will never attend this place again.

Experienced their potions making class with my friend for her birthday, would def do it again for Halloween. Drinks were very pretty and each pair got a wand to use during the experience.

Super fun and unique experience in nyc where you can be a wizard! I booked this experience in advance for me and my bf and communications with them was easy. They were very responsive! I paid around $70 ish and we were seated promptly. You each get a wand and you can choose which drink menu you want to make for the class. The potion master hands out the supplies you would need to make your drinks and during the beginning you get to choose a welcome drink too! Welcome drink was honestly my favorite! And then you follow instructions yourself on the drink card and at times it did get a little confusing and one of the drinks was too sour for me. At the end they also gave us a shot with some dry ice which was cool. Overall fun experience with friends or a fun date night!

Such a fun place! We had Vanilla as our server both times we've gone and they have truly gave us such a great experience. Highly recommend going!

After a little hocus pocus upstairs we grew hungry and decided to grab a bite downstairs at the bar (since we also received a discount for visiting upstairs festivities) downstairs bar vibes were nice . Everyone was attentive, food was okay from what I can remember, drinks weren't the best but weren't the worst . Everything was average . However they did have a tree at the bar pouring drinks as well (cute add) I would say if u are visiting the cauldron drink making class, eating by the bar wouldn't hurt
Had such a great experience here.
Our potion master was amazing, I think their name was Vanillian. Highly recommend. And I'm not even a Harry Potter fan!
We wasted our money, so you don’t have too!
Booked here as we saw some great reviews, but in all honesty the experience was terrible. To start it was around 20 minutes late, with no real welcome. When we originally checked in for our booking, we were told that we have been booked in, however around 15 minutes later a waiter came over and said ‘we’ve been waiting for you’ so we clearly had not been checked in. Going through into the potions room, was underwhelming to say the least. It wasn’t what it looks on photos at all, so I can only imagine these were through the process of photoshop. When we did the ‘potions’ these were again not as advertised, it was a very childlike experience, even other people on the experience were saying this is too silly and not worth the experience. The welcome drink, don’t even bother. It’s awful. The drink that comes out by magic. Don't bother. It’s awful. The potions that we made, were not $75 of alcohol, I would say around $20, and I find it hard to believe that the experience was worth the money of $55 dollars left.. they also asked for a tip at the end, again found that strange as the experience wasn’t worth $75, therefore why was a tip warranted? In all honesty, don’t waste your money. We have had a better time walking into bars and enjoying ourselves that way. There is plenty more in NYC to do and see, just not this!

Let me start by saying no you do not need to be a HP fan to like this place. It is just overall a great place to get that magical feeling. The staff seem so happy which is always a plus. The drinks were not only affordable but very tasty. The food was yummy and if you do stay for the potion making course I promise you will not be disappointed. New York is where you go for unique experiences, so a spooky cool bar/ restaurant where you can make potions only makes sense to be #1 on your list.
The ambiance and setting of the location was AMAZING!!!
The ambiance and setting of the location was AMAZING!!! Nature and magical vibes all over! The drinks were also delicious and themed. The shots and drinks! A couple of reasons I only gave 2 stars: -The service was not good. We ordered a round of shots to start off but then had to get up from the table to get the server 30 minutes after. -We made a reservation through their website and upon arrival they said we had a $100 credit. When closing out after asking for the check (after waiting 10 minutes) they didn't apply the credit and we had to get the manager. It's unfortunate because the place looks so amazing but if the employees don't want to be there they should find a different job.
We came for the potion class.
Two of us. I wanted one drink my daughter wanted another. The woman starts talking about half portions and a box. Made no sense at the time. We each get one drink to make.... I tell her what I want and what my daughter wants and she only brings out the drink my daughter wants--for both of us. They bring it in crates and basically if there's two of you you are forced to get the same drink. I didn't get a choice on the matter. My daughter chose the raspberry one--I hate raspberries. If I came by myself I assume I would get choice. We paid for two passes we should have each gotten what we wanted. My daughter didn't like the drink after she made it, so neither of us got to even enjoy it. The lady never came and asked us how we liked our drinks or anything but she made sure to tell us how much we should tip. Part of the fun of going with someone else is tasting each other's drinks or plates. This was not a great experience.
Used to be great...
We first went to The Cauldron for fun Magical Cocktail Experience in 2018. This year, we went back for their Magical Afternoon Tea in May 2023, and it was fantastic! So, we went back only four months later, in late September 2023 to treat my mother and my niece. I was shocked at how much changes they made to everything… The only thing they didn’t change was the decor. We could no longer choose which sandwich we wanted, and the portion was significantly smaller. The waitress was not attentive at all, and we were forced to howl like a wolf in order for the waitress to come to us. Service was super slow, we were left hungry and frustrated, and yet they automatically added 20% gratuity on our check. It was a pretty bad experience, very disappointed with their changes…
Not magical
I had been to the Couldron about 4 years ago & it was a fantastic experience. When we decided to take trip to New York again it was on my list of things to do, what a let down! We wanted to try the tree, you only had cider, the restaurant lacked the atmosphere we were expecting from our last visit. The food was ok (nachos) the cocktails were fun, no one could manage to get a WiFi code despite asking a number of times & it was expensive, which doesn’t bother me, but it wasn’t a patch on our first visit. The restaurant is tired & in need of some work. I don’t like to give a bad review but I was so looking forward to our experience & it really wasn’t one.
Great experience for young kids
I would absolutely recommend this experience for kids, age 4-7ish in particular. My 6 year old daughter loved... mixing ingredients to make potion, the magic them embedded via smoke, magnets, etc., and the waitress who played the part very well.
Wonderful Time at Wizard Afternoon Tea
Went to Cauldron Wizard Afternoon Tea with my two young adult children for a birthday celebration. Had an amazing time. So much fun. The restaurant decor was magical, perfect background music, awesome cocktails, food was great and plentiful. The afternoon tea theme was whimsical and fun throughout the experience. Highly recommend for something fun and different!
A fun night out
I booked the potion making class with the sightseeing pass. Had never heard of it but basically looked to see what I could use with the pass and this caught my eye. Arrive early and took advantage of the happy hour before the experience. Our group was taken upstairs to a quirky little room. We were given a welcome drink, you need a wand to to get this. The pass only allows one potion, after initial disappointment we didn’t get 2 included, this went as the cocktail was so strong. You each get a jar, glass and ingredients and you make it in your group, just asking for ice at the end. It’s interactive with the castle and wand on the table. We all really enjoyed it.
Why take reservations
Had a reservation, paid for reservation. They called and cancelled my reservation. No emergency or natural disaster. They just booked a private event and could not fit me in any longer.
Great atmosphere and chicken wings!
The atmosphere at the bar was great. It is a Harry Potter-inspired place so the decorations are awesomely adequate. The crispy chicken wings are great too 😊
One Magical Experience!
This was an amazing experience! We went for my boyfriends birthday and it did not disappoint. Our resident wizard, Valentine, was outstanding! They brought such amazing energy and made the whole experience so worth it. The welcome drink was amazing, I like that you had an option of three different ones (one non-alcoholic as well for those that did not drink). I got the cider and my boyfriend for the sangria, both were excellent. It was one of the best ciders I have ever had. The drinks we made during the class were great as well. There were three drinks to choose from and you choose two drinks for the table that you want to make. The experience itself was amazing, organized well, and the instructions for the drinks itself were clear and everything was labeled! If you are having doubts about booking, just do it! Completely worth the money, and the smoking drinks were so cool.
Better off going alone… not really a class

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

Can come from a lot of places, people who don't want to get charged their cancellation fee or people who just have them and cant go.

almost all restaurants aren't affiliated with AT and I'm guessing it's mostly people wanting to not pay cancellation fees.
