A spot for all to enjoy. Food at its finest. Friendly staff and environment. A pleasure each and every time in London... Take care
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best meals of my life
We have lived embarrassingly close to this place for over a year and now kicking ourselves that it’s taken us this long to come here. A small team of three people somehow manage to churn out plate after plate of food that is out of this world, with each plate delivered with such elegant precision and respect for seasonal ingredients. Many of the ingredients were completely new to our western palates and left us sad that things like Japanese ginger and buckwheat tea are not available at every supermarket. Being able to watch Taka-san assemble the food in front of you is an absolute treat so grab the counter if you can. We will definitely be back, and although we will take the chef’s recommendation to visit Tsukiji fish market when we are in Tokyo next week, I do very much worry that the bar that has been set here in London will be a hard one to pass!
Be the first to ReplyOnce in a lifetime sushi!
A very warm welcome when we entered the restaurant. The food was an absolutely sensational culinary experience; the presentation was amazing but the taste and texture were original and mouthwatering! It was the best authentic japanese sushi I have ever eaten. It was really incredible, and you can watch the Chef prepare these magic Michelin dishes!

Our party of three visited this unique restaurant last night. There were just four other diners at this tiny venue. The service was impeccable, the food was phenomenal and beautifully presented.
Be the first to ReplyBest Omakase Experience outside of Japan
We had the premium Omakase menu and it was phenomenal. It’s clear to see how much thought has gone into each dish and the hospitality of the owners makes for an intimate dining experience. The menu changes quarterly and we will definitely be back. Our favourites were the partially cooked Lobster, scallops with truffle and the various nigiri.
Be the first to ReplyMost special birthday dinner
I am a big fan of Japanese food and Takahashi has been my favourite restaurant since I first discovered it 4 years ago. I didn’t have to think twice when deciding where to celebrate my special birthday recently. I was joined by my husband, son, as well as my sister and her 2 daughters. We all had the most amazing experience. 5 of us went for Omakase menu with sake tasting. My 13 year old son, who is not very adventurous with the food, had vegetable tempura and beef from the main menu, both of which he loved, he particularly enjoyed cooking his beef to perfection on the sizzling plate. I can’t even begin to describe all the amazing creations the rest of us enjoyed as part of Omakase treat. The chef, Nobuhisa, has incredible talent and takes great care in selecting the best ingredients and combining them in most unusual yet complementary ways. The presentations match the taste. I love the way in which Yuko describes each dish. Towards the end we were treated to the sushi making presentation, with most delicious selection of sushi, including 4 types of tuna. All just melting in our mouths. What a fantastic birthday treat I had! Takahashi is such a gem in South Wimbledon run by the most talented and caring couple. To be honest, I almost don’t want too many people knowing about it:-). Can’t wait to go again!
Be the first to ReplySimply exquisite!
I took my partner for dinner at Takahashi last night and it was quite honestly one of the most incredible meals of ours lives. With only four of us in the restaurant, 12 ever max apparently, we were really guaranteed the chef's full attention to detail. We watched a true artist at work. We had the premium omakase, which is only available on select dates - not cheap, but then again cheap sushi never equals good sushi in my experience, and this is quite incredible sushi. 18 small delicacies were served, each one perfectly balanced. Sounds a lot, but each portion was perfectly sized so you could easily enjoy them all without feeling too stuffed to move. I doubt that there are many Japanese restaurants in London that produce food to this level. Definitely not your average sushi restaurant - come here if you want a truly unique experience which you rarely find outside of Japan.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding.
I cannot praise this intimate little restaurant enough. They are currently seating just 6 or 7 people per service and what a service it is. Starting with single bite tasters and going on to beautifully presented and incredible tasting small courses and then on to a series of individually served nigiri sushi with toppings including salmon marinated in smoked soy, various tuna, scallop and mackerel. The concluding dessert of a hot chocolate pudding served with a matcha tea ice-cream and fresh fruit was a fantastic end to a fantastic meal. Book a table if you can.
Be the first to ReplySuperb - stand out food
Excellent omakase.
Dishes were imaginative, tasty but not overly complex for the sake of being complex. I could not think of a dish I would not have again.
Nigri prices feel eyewatering (5.50 for one piece of medium tuna?) but the omakase set price lets you turn a blind eye to it.
Service was good, restaurant feels a bit stark with the covid distancing.
Quality reminds me of the old tiny husband and wife couple place in kings cross that moved to notting hill (and prices rocketed) but this is more modern.
superb wonderful experience
Outstanding food, wonderful, beautiful. This is truly food as an art-form. The dedication of the chef and his family and staff is clearly sensed. The sweetness, politeness, and sense of desire to achieve the very best in flavour, aroma, visual, texture, presentation, delivery, execution, and service is simply a wonder to have had the opportunity to experience. This is not a place for noisy chatter. This is a chance to savour on so many levels. Might seem expensive, but IMO it is not when you realise the effort that is offered. Worth every penny. What a special treat it was to be allowed a seat! Thank you, and wishing you all at Takahashi much success.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious and imaginative Japanese food with kind, attentive service
We have been to Takahashi twice this year (following an initial recommendation from a friend) and have loved it on both occasions.
We would highly recommend the Omakase (either with or without Wagyu) which has been thoughtful, interesting, delicious, varied, well balanced and worth the cost. The quality of the food is exceptional; whilst all of the food is excellent, the sushi is particularly noteworthy and the best we have personally eaten outside of Japan. Our personal favourites include the beef tobanyaki with teriyaki sauce, salmon with truffle, the nigiri (in particular the mackerel, seared scallop, tuna and cuttlefish), the temaki and the matcha soufflé.
We really enjoy the welcoming atmosphere here and find the service from the husband and wife team to be attentive and kind, yet unobtrusive. You can easily tell that the chef is very talented and has prepared your meal with more skill, care and attention (often in view of the table) than many of the well known Japanese restaurants in the city.
We will return on a regular basis and would recommend you give it a try if you are looking for a family run Japanese restaurant in London with exceptional food made with care and attention and attentive, welcoming service.
N.B. The restaurant on the street is currently unlabelled, but in close proximity to Wimbledon + South Wimbledon tube stations. Reservation required via their website.
Stunning and delicious food
Unlike every other restaurant in this area, the food is unique, edible artistry, and a charming couple running the restaurant
Be the first to ReplyTakahashi is the best
If you are familiar with the delicious food, beautiful presentation, and elegant service offered by Takahashi in normal times, you should try their outstanding takeaway service, now currently on offer. It will delight the palate and lift your spirits. Long live Takahashi!

Very special place. Amazing food and perfect service.
Everything is just delicious and beautifully prepared.
Highly recommended
Book in advance: it’s very small
Extraordinary restaurant
Having a restaurant like this in Wimbledon is a blessing. The food is extraordinary - each piece of food seems to have been thought of and contemplated alone, and the whole process of making the food seems to be a meditative experience. This is a master chef working alone, one pice of food at a time, coming calmly and beautifully your way. It is indeed quite a experience to eat it - from flavours, sights, aromas, and combinations. The place is simple and elegant, and the reality and organ of all the food shines through. It is worth to save and try to set menus - their advice is well worth a try. The service is like the restaurant. -simple, elegant, and extraordinary. Make it an opportunity to have this kind of food every once in a while in your life.
Be the first to ReplyThe Best Japanese Cooking in London?
I took my son here on Friday evening and we phoned to reserve ahead of time. I’m glad I did because the restaurant is tiny (4 tables) and was fully booked. It was difficult to find because there’s no name above the door, parking was a bit tricky and there was a blast of cold air when the door opened (quickly stopped by a curtain) but goodness, these were the only negatives and it was worth it. We enjoyed a fabulous Japanese meal, really authentic cooking beautifully presented in what feels like a private dining room. We chose lots of the small ‘tapas’ dishes, all of which were utterly delicious, well explained by the chef’s wife and presented on beautiful ceramic dishes. The whole experience was a sensory treat. It was, however, extremely expensive, so I think this is somewhere for a special occasion rather than a casual supper. I can’t wait to go again and will order the fixed price tasting menu 48 hours in advance.

We love this place and come here to celebrate special occasions. The food is amazing, the staff is very friendly. It is on a pricey side, but definitely worth it.
